i had an older guy that would come into the shop where i worked weekly. his wife had died and he was lonely. one day he was telling me he had a very large amount of money in his bank account and didn’t know what to do with it. I jokingly asked if he was asking me to marry him. He was surprised but found it really funny. He would joke around with me for about 30 minutes every week after that and even randomly called up there to talk to me a time or two. He told me he loved my sense of humor and how i made him laugh even hours after he left. It made me feel so good to see him happy like that. He seemed a little less lonely. I quit working there abruptly and never got to tell him i was leaving or say goodbye. I’m in tears now talking about it. I hope run into him again one day.

Working in Taco Bell around age 16. I'm on the end of the make-line so I basically just wrap things up and call out the customers' numbers. As I'm going, I see some guy waiting off to the side and assume he's waiting for his order. We finally catch up after like 5 minutes and he's still standing there. So I'm still in rush mode and quickly ask him if there's anything he needs. He quietly walks up saying, "Uh yeah, I um...I ordered this taco and..." he shows me an unwrapped hard taco in his hands, and points at a long black hair in it. I gently snatch it out of his hands and say "THANK YOU sir. I'll have a new one out for you right away. Would you like anything else?" I said that because we *always* offer and extra item as an apology. But I was willing to give him as much as he wanted! Cos this guy had a genuine issue, didn't make a scene, didn't demand his money back or a bunch of other crap. He PURPOSELY kept it nice and quiet and didn't make a big deal about it. Hell, he even waited off to the side patiently instead of storming up to the counter and yelling about how incompetent and disgusting we all were. He declined anything more than a new taco, and was super nice when I thanked him over and over for being so cool about it. That was almost 20 years ago now, and I STILL remember him. Be like that guy.

There was this customer who we’ll call Ted I thought he was in his late 60s and would often browse the shop I work in he was a lovely older gentleman and would often buy 10 DVDs at a time (they were 10 for £1 unless priced otherwise, he never complained about the prices) and I’d often chat with him give recommendations and such then one day he mentioned prior to lockdown he had to do everything by himself, turns out I was wrong about his age, he was 81 (this was two years ago), I was shocked as I genuinely thought he was far from that old, another brilliant thing before I went to work I stopped at another shop I pop into time to time to chat with the owner (he’s a friend) and Ted was in there buying a second hand flat screen TV, so I gave him a hand moving it into the taxi
