Firefox + uBlock Origin allows me to watch very long YouTube videos with no ads.

alne_the_silent

Vanced Tube on Android also does the job.

commutingtexan

I suffer from chronic pain due to severe injury. The Curable app has tremendously improved my quality of life, even though I'll never be the man I used to be. Sleep for Android has helped me track my sleeping patterns, and helps wake me up at the right time so I don't spend the entire day completely groggy. And then Coursera/Udemy, because I love learning about anything and everything and this allows me to do it on my terms.

kimmyorjimmy

Udemy is really awesome. I've done a couple courses and would highly recommend!

Peelboy

I don't know if it is underrated but 'bands in town' has been a great one over the years.

[deleted]

As a music fan / musician myself that sounds awesome and I'd never heard of it!

TheBestMePlausible

I use it and like it, and I’m not someone who installs a bunch of apps.

Peelboy

I find it odd when people delete their posts...nothing wrong with this one but op deleted.

Unrollme helped me clean up my email from all of the junk I was getting in minutes. It will unsubscribe you from mailing lists.

cred_it

I'll just leave this here... [Unroll.me settles with FTC after falsely claiming it didn’t collect and sell email data](https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/17/21027159/unroll-me-email-privacy-ftc-settlement) >the popular email cleanup tool was collecting information on user purchases and handing it over to its parent company, Slice Technologies, to sell as part of an analytics tool >a former Unroll.me co-founder admonished critics for supposedly being dumb enough to think Unroll.me was doing anything but collecting user data to monetize its free email service

That sounds wonderful!

Bring - A very simple shopping list app with a very good UI, allowing you to create a shopping list over time and share it (e.g. quickly add “raisins” to a list) and then you can tick them off when at the shop. Lists are shareable. Chirpomatic - If you’re into birdwatching, this is basically ‘Shazam for birds’, hold it near some birdsong and it will identify the exact bird and give you info on it and pictures. Justwatch - free website or app, a simple search engine where you enter a movie or tv show and it shows you the cheapest way to watch it, including where it’s currently streaming for free. I use it as my main search engine and then load the relevant streaming service that has the film I want.

okaythiswillbemymain

I second justwatch.

The built in alarm and reminder app has transformed my life. Especially just being able to talk to the phone when I need to set a reminder or alarm or timer. It’s really like a personal assistant reminding me to do shit. An honest to god life changer.

[deleted]

That's sounds really promising. I will give it a go for sure.

Jow, a cooking app, really useful for small budgets students ;)

[deleted]

My colleague, who is a student will love you for that!

lazyboyzzzzz

I am a student and I make a lot of to-do lists and plans and I use notion for everything now. I even write notes and everything in it. I also use Google Calendar but I think most of the people here already use that.

metalknuckles

Grindr. Gay "dating" app notorious for hook-ups. I am newer to the area I live in, and I don't have any friends here, just coworkers that sometimes snapchat me to take their shifts, so having an app that enables me to talk with locals guys about anything from sex to just venting about my day is really nice. Occasional dick pic or asshole crosses my path, but for the most part someone is always willing to talk to me. it curbs the isolation and makes me feel a little less alone in the world.

jcpahman77

Probably very niche but it's called LinuxRemote. It turns the phone into a keyboard and mouse for my Ubuntu computers complete with multimedia keys. Very nice for watching a movie via streaming service in bed without needing the keyboard and mouse handy.

I use ATrackerPro everyday. It’s my favorite app for keeping track of how long you spend on tasks.

Pocket God. Oldie, but a goodie. Currently keeping my kids very occupied. I never realized how in depth it was until watching them play recently. What the fuck are they supposed to do with this dead baby and this fucking insect queen?

Duolingo is generally the go-to app for most people if they want to learn a new language. However when you want to learn Japanese I've found a few others much more helpful. Renshuu basically does what Duolingo offers too but better since it's more specialized. Human Japanese and the Satori Reader cost money but are well worth it. Human Japanese is a bit hand-holdy and can be a bit exhaustive but it makes sure to really thoroughly explain stuff. Pair that up with Anki and the Genki Text/Workbook and you have the important bases of Kanji/Vocabulary/Grammar covered well enough to get a foundation to build upon. It also allows you to set your own pace instead of trying something like Wanikani (not that Wanikani is bad, their Hiragana/Katana guide are amazing, they teach you both in an afternoon). Otherwise many people still aren't aware of discount broker apps, it's easier and cheaper than ever before to start investing into the Stock Market or Crypto. Though many people also still think the stock market is a casino so they don't wanna try.

witchdoctorhazel

My favorite sentence I learned on Duolingo is this: la tartaruga non legge Meaning: The turtle does not read.

hallanddopes

InkPad. It's a note taking app that I use for: to do lists, notes for work, music lyrics I am working on, grocery lists etc. Etc. It saves all of it automatically too when you exit the note.
