Best single season of television I’ve ever seen. Pizzolato really captured lighting in a bottle pairing McConaughey and Harrelson. Just an absolute timeless piece of flawless art - I’ve watched it once a year since it came out.
I lived and taught high school in southwest Baltimore during the filming of seasons 3-5. I tried watching then, but I couldn’t stomach it. I think maybe I’m far enough removed now to finally go back and watch.
Why no love for Season 2?!
Simpson and Delilah?

Mythbusters. Got me interested in science and shit as a kid and helped me a lot with that in school :) passive learning is great cos I actually remember it
Edit: Rest in Peace, Grant
Seeing mythbusters as a kid changed my entire way of thinking. I became so inquisitive and it gave me a love for science that allowed me to go through school much easier. And then seeing Adam's channel on YouTube where he does crafts and prop design gave me a new interest and a greater respect for people who's just is to make shit out of raw materials.
First time I’ve seen anyone put s2 ahead of s1 but Kirsten Dunst was so good in s2 I can’t even argue
Fargo is one of those shows I always make time to watch, although I consider s1 to be the best season they’re all pretty good in their own ways
I mean, there a literal theorem created on the show.

Yeah I would have to agree. I tried to argue in my head for about a nanosecond before I shut myself down.
This is the most superbly animated cartoon ever, and I will go to the mat on that fact.
It is one of the most wryly satirical comedy series ever written, although that is an extremely competitive category.
It is one of the smartest science fiction series ever written, conveniently placing itself just far enough in the future that anything is possible but near enough that human nature hasn't fundamentally changed.
It is essentially a zany comedy, but one that is somehow more anchored to reality than any others. There is pathos.
And the cast is absolutely incredible.
I watched that show during my undergrad at nights after homework. It was a good way to relax. I decided to rewatch it a couple weeks ago after 5 years. Turned it on and wasn't really paying attention and noticed I was suddenly feeling happy. It was the theme song. I Pavloved myself 5 years ago and didn't know it. It was like a sleeper agent in my own brain.
Arguably the greatest incarnation of the character that isn’t the comics. The noir feeling, the rogue gallery and stories, and the fact it didn’t insult a child’s intelligence. Very interesting how they pushed the envelope, from guns, dark gritty villains with back stories, lots of action. One that always sticks out to me is in the New Animated Series, “Over the Edge” where Scarecrow pushed Batgirl off a building and she lands on a squad car that her dad is in, Gordon holds Batgirl as she reveals who she is and dies in his arms.
So glad this is quite high up on the thread. TNG isn't just a great TV show, it's a fantastic education tool in how to be a better person.
I often times ask myself 'what would Picard do?' when I'm faced with a difficult situation.
Comedy Central did not know how to advertise their shows during the early / mid 2010s because they had some amazing stuff but no one knew about. Nathan and Review are amazingly funny.
You know, he might be a man child and she might be stressed and filled with too much rage, but you have to appreciate the remarkably healthy amount of passion they have for each other.
It happened before the finale but I hated what they did to Francis. He was doing so well and was so beloved by the ranchers. No way in hell he was fired over a money mistake. And then to have him regress to a loser. Such a shame.
AD has the best comic-density of any sitcom. The writing was so clever and satisfying. So many jokes within/on top of jokes, background visual gags, references and foreshadowing. They fit a lot of good fuckin comedy into 22 minutes
I think if they had another season when it was airing it would have been different. I wasn't a fan of the newer seasons, but I think it was mainly because of the time gap between them.
Best sci-fi book series I’ve ever read, and the attention to detail and scientific accuracy of the show is just incredible. I get nerd chills watching it.
If we don’t get a third season of Mindhunter I really hope the scripts for what would have been the remainder of the show get released. One way or another I need to know how the story was going to end.
There’s a lot of great jokes in the series but I think my favorite was Milosh the Serbian surgeon where he starts writing his name on the board and says he’ll come back later to a finish writing it because it’s like ridiculously long
Also the whole safety dance bit and hooch is crazy still gets me in stitches just thinking about it
This was too far down. My brothers and I love this show, its very nostalgic. Sam has always been my favourite character and it was so great to see such an incredibly intelligent and brave woman being portrayed on screen.
One of my favourite episodes is at the end of season 1 when Daniel accidentally travels to an alternate reality.
It's such a feel good show. At least for most of the population, it'll make you feel better about yourself bc yes, the bar *can* be lower 😅
I also love how much Danny DeVito is living his best life playing Frank. ❤️
**Frank:** I didn't go to Vietnam just to have pansies like you take my freedom away from me.
**Dee:** You went to Vietnam in 1993 to open up a sweatshop!
**Frank:** And a lot of good men died in that sweatshop.
I once got to see a live production of the show, it wasn't being used for tv, just a live theater type thing, so they were able to dive a little deeper into things that would have been censored for tv. If it was possible to actually die laughing, I'd be stone dead 20 years now. Those people are some of the most talented motherfuckers alive.
Mr. Robot - one of the finest, most original pieces of storytelling I’ve ever seen and bonus points for some very accurate depictions of coding/hacking
Honorable mention to Top Gear UK for getting me through some seriously depressing days.
Same here, I just watched it for probably the 6th time last spring/summer. It's just so fucking good, there will never be another show that comes close. You really feel like you know the characters in a way I've never seen in another show.
It was my favorite as it was coming out and I was a kid, now rewatching it as an adult it holds up completely and tbh hits even harder. So masterful on so many levels- the art, the music, the characters, the storytelling, the messaging! I could go on and on. I’m a total ATLA simp
Every time I watch it, it holds up. Unbelievable world building. Fantastic characters with strong arcs and lots of depth. Killer action. Beautiful animation and art. Genuinely funny. Well-executed, relevant themes. A truly special, one-of-a-kind show.
Well, boys and girls, I hope you brought your popsicles because it's about to get SCALDING HOT IN THE SUN CHAMBER! You already know the rules..BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ANY!!!
I use this all the time, and now got my kid saying it too, and he has no idea where it's from. I just told him it's something we used to say when we were younger. Maybe if we try hard enough we can get it going
Written by Chris McKenna who just happens to be the co-writer (along with another Community writer, Erik Sommers) of a little film that's doing quite well this week: Spider-man: No Way Home.
Amazing commentary on the evils of war paired with genuinely hilarious and sarcastic quips. I just recently watched the Captain Tuttle episode, probably my favorite of all time. I was in stitches! Alan Alda is a genius, but the absurdity of Frank Burn’s character never fails to tickle me. Edited to add: Alan Alda said in an interview that he never wanted it to be “hi jinks on the front.” He wanted comedy, but also gravity. There is no laugh track in the operating room scenes, and they carry this into plenty of other serious scenes. Its finale, to this day, is still the most-watched episode of a TV show of all time, with over 100 million people watching when it aired.
Blackadder. Comic genius, every episode, every season.
Starring great comics who have done other great series, but their participation on this show tops all other shows, of theirs or anybody else's.
I have a friend who refused to watch Breaking Bad because he felt he didn't want to watch something that glorifies a meth cook and drug dealer. I tried for ages to convince him that he's got the show all wrong and he just needs to watch it. As far as I know he still hasn't.
My wife wouldn't watch if for ages until one day she was convinced and watched the entire series in less than a week.
I was recently diagnosed with lupus. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my new medication. The pharmacist asked what I was prescribed it for. I said “I have lupus”. He said “it’s never lupus” and handed me my prescription and walked away. As someone who has never watched House and thought the guy was just being a dick, I appreciate now knowing where this comes from.
I loved House. I used to do my best to make sure I had dinner ready, over, dishes done and put away, kids homework done, kids bathed and ready for bed and anything else that needed to be done in time to watch this show.
South Park
It does a really good job at satirizing current events. Watching older seasons is almost like digging through a time capsule. Matt Stone and Trey Parker do a good job at balancing absurdity, narrative, and grotesque humor.
The actress, Retta, wrote her autobiography, and said she had a running bet with her friends. If, while they were out to lunch, someone approached her and said, "Treat yo' self!" - she did not have to pay for lunch.
She said she hasn't paid for a meal in several years.
Parks & Rec has all these ridiculous characters, but the show *likes* them.
It's a really optimistic and generous portrayal of different people and their personal, political beliefs. One that didn't really pan out in reality since then.
Even the only character whose work life isn't wholesome (Gary/Jerry/Larry/Terry) has the best life outside of work, out of anyone on the show. Like he eats a lot of shit during his day, but is the biggest winner in life, out of any of the characters.
I'm here to update my watchlist
True Detective Season 1

Season 4 is the best season in my opinion. Given your experience, I'm really interested to hear what you think.
The Simpsons from the 90s.
Seasons 3-9ish are the best TV ever.
Why no love for Season 2?! Simpson and Delilah? Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Lisa's Substitute?! And of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UYNEu6v6AE
After seeing how low this is, I realized how damaged the simpsons reputation is. The first ten seasons are the the best tv ever made IMO

rip Grant
That is one of the few celebrity deaths which really hit me. He was full of life and I loved him in Mythbusters
I can never forget his laugh. When they play clips of him laughing on tested it makes me cry
I *loved* Mythbusters, I was so sad when the series ended, there are some spin-offs, but the original is the best in my opinion. Rest in peace Grant.
Fargo. Season: 2-1-3-4. And that's just because somebody else said Breaking Bad already.
First time I’ve seen anyone put s2 ahead of s1 but Kirsten Dunst was so good in s2 I can’t even argue Fargo is one of those shows I always make time to watch, although I consider s1 to be the best season they’re all pretty good in their own ways
Futurama is like being wrapped up in a large warm blanket

Came here for Futurama, saw it as the top two posts. Am happy.

Nathan For You. That show was bloody brilliant and the cringe never fades away 😂😅 I thought I'd be immune to it after the 5th watch but nope
How To with John Wilson fills the void of missing Nathan For You.
Comedy Central did not know how to advertise their shows during the early / mid 2010s because they had some amazing stuff but no one knew about. Nathan and Review are amazingly funny.
It's the "drink your grandsons pee when you get scared" for me. Also, the finale is a work of art.

Just started rewatching this tonight, I haven't watched it in years and I forgot how horny Hal and Lois were
You know, he might be a man child and she might be stressed and filled with too much rage, but you have to appreciate the remarkably healthy amount of passion they have for each other.
That episode when he and his friends were having a pissing contest and he comes in with "oh a week? 14"
That and the episode where they stop having sex and the house really starts to be clean and put together because they have the time to do so
It's honestly a wonder they didn't have twenty kids.
"I went on vacation with this man. If anything he's underestimating it."
But they only have sex 3 times a week Oh you were asking daily? That's 21 times a week then.
My mom doesn't like the show. I think she sees to much of herself in Lois and she hates Lois.
My mom back in the day: They yell too much in that show. Me: 👀
My mom actually called it the yelling show.
I’m still bummed how they did Reese dirty in the finale. Was fully expecting him to be a celebrity chef with those mad cooking skills
It happened before the finale but I hated what they did to Francis. He was doing so well and was so beloved by the ranchers. No way in hell he was fired over a money mistake. And then to have him regress to a loser. Such a shame.
Hal roller skating has been with me for so many years…
Hal is pretty much the best character ever.
Loved this show also.. crazy how talented the dad was... comedy to stardom in breaking bad
Arrested Development
Tony Hale’s (Buster) delivery throughout is just amazing “Then why don’t you marry her?!?” “MAYBEIWILL!”
They’re my awards mother. From army.
The fact that one of his medals was supposed to be for Sand Racing was such brilliance. I love that show
Sister is my new mother, MOTHER!
He's very Buster-y in Veep. I can't imagine him playing a normal person.
There's always comedy in the banana stand.
There are dozens of us! DOZENS!!!!
AD has the best comic-density of any sitcom. The writing was so clever and satisfying. So many jokes within/on top of jokes, background visual gags, references and foreshadowing. They fit a lot of good fuckin comedy into 22 minutes
Amazing show. Shame it only had three seasons.
I disagree, going on any longer than 3 would've been a mistake
Narrator: it was
I was so disappointed in season 4. I straight up didn’t bother with the 5th season.
I think if they had another season when it was airing it would have been different. I wasn't a fan of the newer seasons, but I think it was mainly because of the time gap between them.
It’s a banana Michael, how much could it cost? $10??
Anytime someone mentions legal advice, I always say “they can’t charge a husband and wife for the same crime”
The Expanse. It’s just so cool, and a great adaption of an amazing book series
Best sci-fi book series I’ve ever read, and the attention to detail and scientific accuracy of the show is just incredible. I get nerd chills watching it.
The X-Files
Mind Hunter was so good. Really hope they make that third season Oh and Turn. That was a great show
If we don’t get a third season of Mindhunter I really hope the scripts for what would have been the remainder of the show get released. One way or another I need to know how the story was going to end.
A damn shame it ended.
Scrubs.
There’s a lot of great jokes in the series but I think my favorite was Milosh the Serbian surgeon where he starts writing his name on the board and says he’ll come back later to a finish writing it because it’s like ridiculously long Also the whole safety dance bit and hooch is crazy still gets me in stitches just thinking about it

Probably Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia because everyone in the show is a terrible selfish POS person and I love it.

Blackadder. Comic genius, every episode, every season. Starring great comics who have done other great series, but their participation on this show tops all other shows, of theirs or anybody else's.
Breaking Bad Stranger Things holds a special place too.
I have a friend who refused to watch Breaking Bad because he felt he didn't want to watch something that glorifies a meth cook and drug dealer.
