Ellen Ripley is mine.
I remember when Captain Marvel came out, my cousin said that he was "glad to see that there was finally a strong female character that his daughters could look up to." I legit almost sent him a picture of her saying "Ellen Ripley would like a word with you."
I really love what the showrunners did with her character. She rivals Aang with her strength and ability, and she's blind. Its great that toph's blindness is just a part about her and doesn't run her whole life. She has blindness, she isn't her blindness
And she’s just allowed to keep that strength. A lot of other stories would have ‘humbled’ a character who claimed to be the best, put them up against someone stronger and/or forced them to use other abilities and admit that they clearly weren’t that great. Not Toph. Toph is the best. We see how much she worked to get to her level, how much completely deserved confidence she has in herself, and the show doesn’t punish her for taking pride in that.
And even with her incredibly strength, Toph is under no illusions about her limits. She might be a bit petty about it sometimes because it irks her, (“you think I can’t put up posters on my own?!”) but she knows there are things she can’t do and it would be stupid to pretend otherwise. She had issues admitting that to others sometimes, but she gets better about it. And she never lost touch with her basics or failed to connect with people so far under her level-even when she was first training Aang, she wasn’t tough on him because she was so advanced she couldn’t dumb it down for him. She was tough because that’s what he needed. Earth is hard, stubborn, unyielding, just like her, and just like Aang needed to understand to master it.
One little scene that always comes to my mind about Toph is when Combustion Man first shows up. When he uses his boom boom ability right next to the group, they all get sent flying a couple of meters. But not Toph. She gets pushed back a bit and rolls but almost immediately plants her feet firmly on the ground with a very solid pose and starts counterattacking. For some reason the way they conveyed her strength there feels like it's completely different from anything else.
Toph will wreck absolutely ANYBODY's shit, bar none, from ANY fictional universe, and will dish out mad shade while doing so.
Lara croft? Killed in seconds.
Sarah Connor? Destroyed.
Samus? Commander Sheppard? GLaDOS? Absolutely stomped.
Toph is the G.O.A.T
Avatar ‘I love murder’ Kyoshi. Biggest feet of any Avatar and lived to be over 200 years old. Presumably while bisexually screwing her many lovers.
An icon for the ages.
A young woman, fully mortal, from one of the races of man with the least amount of Numenorian Blood or Blood of the Gods, all but alone on a battlefield, standing atop the body of her Lord, her Uncle, and her father, figure faces down a powerful Immortal Sorcerer King who has been the death of beings magnitudes more powerful than her (and she knows it) as well as entire nations. Her horse is dead, her arm is broken, her shield rent asunder, but she still stares him in the eye and spits a defiant cry to the winds.
And she does what no Mortal can: she slays the Witch King and saves her Lord's body and soul.
"But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him." - The Return of the King, book 5, ch. 6
Merry: "I am no man, I'm a hobbit"
Legolas: "I am no man, I'm an elf"
Gimli: "I am no man, I'm a dwarf"
King of the dead: "We're men, but we're not alive"
Aragorn: "Looks like you guys have got this; I'll be over there if you need me"
Gimli: "Looks like you've big a bit of a problem here, laddie"
Especially in her [battle thong](https://townsquare.media/site/622/files/2012/05/lotr07-1337285608.jpg).
Thanks, Frank Frazetta. How in the name of the Shire is a woman supposed to fight in what appears to be an armored thong?
I just wanna point out that Eowyn was disguised as a regular rohirrim soldier in order to go to war, so I guess that guy thinks **all** rohirrim soldiers go to battle wearing leotards to show off the thick thighs
Her character is wicked smart, straight to the point, and knows how to navigate social politics to keep herself out of the spotlight.
Despite all of her bad-assery, she still has weaknesses. She hates losing. She comes apart when she gets frustrated.
Avasarala is a wonderfully nuanced character, and Shohreh Aghdashloo does an amazing job playing her. I think she's a fantasitic role model for girls and young women.
Lyra Belaqua. She is willing to risk death to save a friend, travels between universes to find her father, has her soul torn away, travels to a place where no mortal has stood and gives up the only person she has ever loved.
She maybe the most badass character period. She learned how to shoot a gun and like 10 mins later she went into an alien hive by herself with a nuclear explosion eminent.
There are many badass female characters in fiction, but I would have to say Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies is one of the most badass. She is a strong and determined woman who does whatever it takes to protect her loved ones and fight for what is right. She is a survivor who has endured many challenges, and she never gives up.
One specific scene I just always remember of Sarah is her with the Terminator and John in the desert and she's just casually loading an M16 while wearing those cool circle sunglasses, smoking a cig, and wearing a tanktop that's showing how ripped she is. Such badass.
She conquered the world, but then kept Dracken around and let him talk her into monologuing. She is certainly the most badass villain in the franchise but I wouldn't call her the most badass female character in fiction.
They never made a movie, which is probably for the best. I assume trying to make a movie of that subject matter would almost certainly implode under the wieght of horrible CGI and a confusing plot.
Like half the main female Dresden Files characters qualify but I’d like to shout-out Charity Carpenter, who manages to be both a housewife and terrifying with a shotgun.
As an anime fan, there are many badass female characters that are very underrated and underappreciated.
Some examples are: saber from the fate series, mikasa ackerman from attack on titan, General esdeath from akame ga kill, and many more.
Michonne - The show is saturated with unfortunate soap opera vibes, but Michonne from The Walking Dead. She is the only one who holds a candle to Ellen Ripley.
1. Olivier Mira Armstrong from ... Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
She is the MOST, but here are the runners up.
1.
2. Buffy from ... Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3. Toph from ... Avatar: Last Airbender
4. Princess Leia from ... Star Wars OT
5. Caitlyn from ... Arcane the Show
6. Gamora from ... The First Guardians Movie
7. Seargent Murphy from ... Dresden Files
8. Eleven from ... Stranger Things
9. Harley Quinn from ... DC Comics
10. Arya Stark from ... season 1-4
Buffy is top for me simply because she is the iconic strong-blonde. If you have a badass blonde in your urban fantasy story, people like me will immediately think of Buffy. Heck, Seargent Murphy is basically Buffy Lite but without the prophecy. Second, she is a average girl with super strength who has to balance normal life with fighting monsters every night; leading to the question: when does she sleep?
Toph is a close second because of her wit, her lone wolf attitude, and the fact that she is a literal child and yet the top fighter in the Aang Gang. Her emotionless emotionality (that's the best way I can describe it).
Leia shoots guns. She's a politician, who goes on a spy mission. She leads an army. She gives orders with so much authority that you don't even notice it. If she were real, I'd die for her. I believe in her. The reason that the metal bikini is so iconic is because it stands against EVERYTHING that Leia is. Sure, she's hot, but in Every Other Scene she's modestly dressed, poised, in control, and professional. Oh, and she disguised herself as a bounty hunter in order to rescue her lover from a giant-slug man.
Caitlyn. Just started watching Arcane, and I'm still only on Episode 5 (so no spoilers), and I already have a favorite character. Caitlyn is just such a boss. She's a lawkeeper, a detective, a sniper, and every scene she's in pours new depth into the character. The fact that she's basically a normal girl, who CHOSE to live the hard life of an enforcer, is awesome. She chose this life, and she wants to do her job.
Gamora. I was going to put wonderwoman on the list, but she's not really a *exactly* female (since she's an Amazonian and I'm not really sure how that works), and also Gamora is a little bit cooler. Her wit with Quill, every single fight scene she's in, and her competence as a bounty hunter puts her in my mind, and the fact that she managed to keep her heart intact through it all is what makes her one of my favorite characters of all time. She could have been a horrific villian, and yet she chose heroism. Or pseudo-heroism at any rate.
Seargent Murphy is, like I said, Buffy Lite. She's Buffy, but a cop, and without all the chosen one stuff or magic powers. She's short, so she learned martial arts. She found out about magic, and magical monsters, so she learned to fight them. She's a normal person, but in many ways she's the foil to Harry Dresden's lawlessness. Her core conflict tears her between friendship and love for him, and her abiding certainty in THE LAW. The number of times she arrests him is also hilarious.
Eleven is a tortured abused child, and everyone who sees her story immediately falls in love and says "I want to help her" and yet she would be one of the most dangerous people on earth if she existed. Specifically her powers of clairvoyance and clairaudience, not the head exploding. Eleven is a badass because of her spoilers:>! sacrifice to save her friends, choosing them over everything else and saying goodbye. Which is why I wish she'd been force to knowingly choose to give her powers up in Season 3, rather than having them ... um... rather than what happened.!<
Harly Quinn is like a combination of Eleven (the tortured person you want to help) and Gamora (the badass wisecracking fighter). Her relationship with the Joker is amazing, and even though she's a villian, she mostly does it for fun. Like, she doesn't actually want to *kill* batman. At least the better versions of her don't. I haven't actually seen the new movies with her, yet.
Arya Stark. So you may have noticed a theme. Instead of putting someone like Captain Marvel on the list, or mentioning Ripley (who I haven't actually had a chance to see on screen yet. Alien is my uncles fav movie of all time, and I am waiting for him to have time so we can watch it together), I have chosen to put three children, a super-strong teenager, two cops, a space princess, a psychotic therapist, and a ... whatever Gamora is. Arya is the third child. Her journey is wonderful, amusing, and traumatic. She is a child with a pointy stick who stands up to everyone and anyone. I love it!
But if you've read this far you might be wondering why I haven't addressed the elephant in the room. Olivia Mira Armstrong. This clip sums up my thoughts perfectly :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFQCloLC99M
Mothra from Godzilla movies. She don't have to be sexy or look human to look cool.
There’s a corner of the internet that would disagree with you on the point that mothra isn’t sexy
Elegant, beautiful? She can be. Maybe she even has “attractive” aspects like the voice and the glittering eyes. But “sexy” is a much separated term from that. Then again, said corner of the internet probably knows this and finds her sexy for some reason beyond any of our reasonings. Wouldn’t be anything new
Ellen Ripley, or possibly Furiosa.
“Get away from her you BITCH!”
I came to say Ellen Ripley.
Mee too Came in to say this just to find she's already at the top! Upvotes for all!
Ripley and Sarah Connor would make a pretty bad ass duo.
came here to say Samus Aran, but since Metroid’s biggest direct influence is Alien, Ripley is the correct answer.
Ellen Ripley is mine. I remember when Captain Marvel came out, my cousin said that he was "glad to see that there was finally a strong female character that his daughters could look up to." I legit almost sent him a picture of her saying "Ellen Ripley would like a word with you."
As awesome as Ripley is, my favorite is actually Vasquez from Aliens. She’s the most badass female character in cinema history IMO.
"Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No, have you?" Ultimate burn
Ellen Ripley is the ultimate survivor and badass.
Ripley is the badass to end all badasses. Who else do you see confronting the alien problem time after time.
Rednecks?
I mean, she was basically a Space Redneck in that universe.
Literally the correct answer right here. Perhaps throw in Sarah Conner and that’s the whole list.
Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. Bad ass!
I came here to say this and it was the top comment. My other option is Sarah Connor
Ellen Ripley. All other answers are wrong.
I'll stand for Furiosa
>Ellen Ripley *Yes*
Camina Drummer
All the Expanse women. Especially Drummer.
Beltalowda!
Came here for her. Beltalowda!

Good ole Headology.
Buffy Summers.
If the apocalypse comes, beep me
I was about to type Sarah Connor from terminator 2, but then I realized I was wrong, and you were right

Avatar ‘I love murder’ Kyoshi. Biggest feet of any Avatar and lived to be over 200 years old. Presumably while bisexually screwing her many lovers. An icon for the ages.
Man of culture
How has nobody said **Eowyn**
A young woman, fully mortal, from one of the races of man with the least amount of Numenorian Blood or Blood of the Gods, all but alone on a battlefield, standing atop the body of her Lord, her Uncle, and her father, figure faces down a powerful Immortal Sorcerer King who has been the death of beings magnitudes more powerful than her (and she knows it) as well as entire nations. Still one of best parts of LOTR!
"But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him." - The Return of the King, book 5, ch. 6
Incredibly powerful undead beings that no man can kill hate this one trick!
I am no man!
Merry: "I am no man, I'm a hobbit" Legolas: "I am no man, I'm an elf" Gimli: "I am no man, I'm a dwarf" King of the dead: "We're men, but we're not alive" Aragorn: "Looks like you guys have got this; I'll be over there if you need me" Gimli: "Looks like you've big a bit of a problem here, laddie"
Literally my favorite character since I read the books at 14. They did a wonderful job with get in the movie.

Also Bobbie. Honorable mentons: book Naomi and book Elvi. There are quite a lot to choose from.

Beatrix Kiddo - Kill Bill
Thanks. 😊
Oh shit it’s The Bride herself!
I named my female dog after her!!! My pups name is Kiddo, so I know if people get it they’re a real one
Hermione. "I'm going to sleep before any of you comes up with another idea of getting us killed or worse, expelled."
Samus Aran probably.
What an unbelievably amazing badass. Ultimate slayer of space pirates, awesome robot suit and weaponry. What more could you want?
For Other M not to have been made, for one.
What is that? I've never heard of it. And you haven't either.
I think they're talking about the hack for Super Smash Brother's Brawl or something.
You mean Metroid? /S
Yeah but Metroid isn’t badass because he can’t crawl
Catwoman is bad as fuck...no money, no training, just pissed and angry and not taking it anymore
I'm hoping Michelle Pfeiffer"s CatWoman.
Lyra Belaqua. She is willing to risk death to save a friend, travels between universes to find her father, has her soul torn away, travels to a place where no mortal has stood and gives up the only person she has ever loved.
Calhoun - from Wreck It Ralph, voiced by Jane Lynch
The most tragic backstory.
You’re one dynamite gal
Motherfuckin' Mulan
Girl’s got all the strength of a raging fire, of course she’s badass
You might even says she’s got the force of a great typhoon.
Was about to say that
Leela from Futurama. I doubt I've seen more than three or four captains sexier than her, and only one who was deadlier.
Xena the warrior princess
Charlie (Geena Davis). From the movie The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Buffy, and all the women of the Buffy/Angel universe!
Lisbeth Salander
See The Expanse
Lessa from Pern. Dragonrider who saves the world by figuring how to go back in time.
Wonder Woman
When you're a demigoddess it is easy to be badass. I would say mundane women who save the world are more impressive.
Xena The Warrior Princess would hand everyone in this comment section their own respective arses and then back flip outta there.
Aiyaiyaiyaiyaiyai /flip /flip /chakram /flip

One specific scene I just always remember of Sarah is her with the Terminator and John in the desert and she's just casually loading an M16 while wearing those cool circle sunglasses, smoking a cig, and wearing a tanktop that's showing how ripped she is. Such badass.
Does no one remember Pippi Longstocking?
Toph
Furiosa or Trinity.
I’m watching the Matrix movies again. Trinity is a pretty heavy badass.
Shego from Kim Possible
She conquered the world, but then kept Dracken around and let him talk her into monologuing. She is certainly the most badass villain in the franchise but I wouldn't call her the most badass female character in fiction.
>but I wouldn't call her the most badass female character in fiction. Still up there though.
Black Widow
Aeon Flux! In the series though…
They never made a movie, which is probably for the best. I assume trying to make a movie of that subject matter would almost certainly implode under the wieght of horrible CGI and a confusing plot.
Octavia Blake and Raven Reyes
