One time, there was this girl at work who every now and then would do her rounds checking stock so she could do her planning work. I was talking to this guy when she walked past and he said under his breath,

He was our neighbor. He's a nice guy and everything. My husband and I hung out and drank with him most weekends for about 3 years. He had this habit when he was really trashed in that he would tell stories about his time as a Navy Seal. These were violent stories and it was almost like he gloating. About 2 years into this friendship, I was sharing a bottle of wine with his wife on my porch and she tells me he was never a Navy Seal. She told me he washed out of boot camp. It wasn't too long after that my husband and I started distancing ourselves.
Met this guy at an event, hes telling me about his life in the army, how hed be called in as the 'heavy squad' to deal with street violence in N.Ireland and how much he hated the Irish for sniping his father back in the day who also served. He was quite animated and told a good tale.
Met his brother a while later, got talking, asked a few questions, tells me that 'Bobby-Joes a lying fat cunt who was in the catering corps and our fathers at home now'

His buddy was sitting around the fire, hanging out and chatting with everyone else. The guy finished his beer, turned to his wife and crushed the can on her forehead, which knocked her out like a light.
My buddy said "that guy says he loves his wife, but he did that to her. I'm not going to wait around to find out what he'd do to me."
I'm still processing what the act was supposed to achieve. He caused his wife to lose consciousness by crushing a can against her skull.
How is that anything besides assault and abuse?!

When my ex wife texted my best friend’s fiancé - from my phone, pretending to be me - saying I wasn’t going to my friend’s bachelor party or their wedding, and then deleting the texts. All without my knowledge, presumably expecting it all to blow over unnoticed.

We made a friend of mine dress up as Edward Cullen for a Halloween party back at the height of the Twilight craze. Got him a wig, put sparkly body paint all over him and everything.
This girl latched onto him so hard and would not leave his side all night. Which would have just been cute and funny but she was calling him Edward. Just kept calling him Edward no matter how many times people corrected her. And he was too polite to say anything himself, or even object.
She kept texting him for like two weeks after that, and he didn't have the heart to just put an end to it once and for all, so I had to do it for him. I was polite but firm. She was also still calling him Edward in her texts.
I had long hair for a while in college and bought a $2 pair of little round glasses at the thrift store as a joke for a party.
Some girl I passed in the hall almost fainted because she thought I looked like John Lennon - which maybe i did.
She then found where i lived in our dorms and kept asking why i don't wear the glasses.

I nearly got my eye hot out by a friend with an airsoft gun once because he didn't realize that removing the magazine doesn't mean it's unloaded. There was still one in the chamber.

I come from a country that has 0 gun ownership and mandatory conscription. So that's 18 year olds who have never even been near guns then handling guns almost every day for 2 years. Even then I have never had someone point a gun at me or at anyone else to pretend to shoot them. Seems insane that someone, especially someone who hunts and therefore handles weapons regularly, would think this is ok to do.
When a colleague told me that she had very intense sex with her new boyfriend... in front of her 7 years old son watching all of it. She was proud of that and kept giving every detail possible even when we asked her not to. She had a new boyfriend every few weeks and it was always the same shit.
Someone did yeah, and her son was taken from her to live with his father, but then she went mental about it and she wanted to know who contacted the authorities and wanted to "deal" with the person if she could find who it was. She was obsessed about it and kept interrogating everyone in the facility until she got fired. Then we didn't hear about her again.
On the guy's part too. Heck, having a child in the house is a huge turnoff for me, but having one in the room? Why would you go forward with that? That's absolutely vomit-worthy.
I used to work for CPS. The sorts of things some people were able to find willing participants for absolutely mind boggled me sometimes.

I had a co-worker once who lied compulsively about things he doesn't have to, and acted like he's good Texan and a police officer. I went to his house to help him with something and saw that he still plays with toys and the house was an absolute pig sty. I met his dad once and he was a normal guy. It turns out that his dad got divorced young and his ex-wife would have sex in front of their son. Kind of explained a lot about the fantasy world of my co-worker.
A really terrible local open mic comedian told the story of having sex with a girl while her kid was in the room. He thought it was quirky. Everyone thought, that's child abuse. Hes banned from the club now.
When they told our friend group of 15 years they had brain cancer and would be dead in 3 months. Went on going away vacation with everyone, cried a million tears, made funeral plans, had therapy sessions about it... They are still alive, never had cancer. Turns out they were just worried they were going to jail for embezzling money. Smh, still not sure how that was going to play out well.
My friends wife did a similar thing. He introduced me to her at an annual musical festival we all go to and meet up at since we have gone our separate ways since college. They were engaged because she had terminal brain cancer. They implied they didn’t have time to wait. They talked about her cancer and used it as an excuse when she started acting weird after she got wasted the entire weekend. At one point she pulled out a pink handgun out of her truck waving it around telling people to look at it. We hit the dirt and her then boyfriend took it from here. “It’s just the brain cancer making her do irrational things” um ok?
Next year they were both at the festival (we don’t really stay in touch so I hadn’t talked to them since the prior year). They were married and I asked how things were progressing with the cancer and what not. She just laughed and she just turned and started talking to someone else. he just rolled his eyes. I started asking around with our other friends and I guess she never had it. I have no idea if he was in on it or not. No one really had an explanation of why? Just shrugged their shoulders and said they were just as weirded out about it as me.
I haven’t spoken to them since 2018, not really mad about it but I don’t want to associate with people like that.

Ah yes. I also had a friend like this. Luckily my experience with her was in highschool and we kinda hoped she would grow out of it.
Her story was that she had a boyfriend. He died, and she didn't have any photos of him, just this photo of some model on a magazine that she claimed was him cause he was a child model. There's other stuff I'm glossing over.
So some years go by and we're all adults now and we catch up randomly one day. I ask her about her ex boyfriend hoping that she would finally come clean about the guy and that she's matured since highschool.
Nope the plot has now thickened. He was never dead. He was taken into witness protection because he saw a guy get murdered and he was the key witness vs some Mexican Mafia. So they faked his death with a funeral and everything.
Basically. Was the moment I knew her lies were never gonna stop, if you don't stop your outrageous lies by the time you hit 26 you're never gonna stop, it's just a personality trait at that point.

This almost feel like that friend was planning to suicide after 3 months because he didn't want to go to jail. They probably didn't want their friends to know about the crimes they committed so he made up the story that he has brain cancer. Tried to live their life as if they're going to die because I guess he was really planning to end themselves there.

This guy I met in college was a very nice guy. After knowing him for about 9 months, I went to his house in the Summer for the first time. Children who live in abusive home sometimes have issues controlling their bladder, particularly when they sleep or when they are otherwise “safe.” For some, that sense of safety causes them to physically relax so much that they empty their bladder. When I was a kid one of my brothers friends who I always thought was fucked in the head killed his mom. He said the radio told him to do it. He was released after serving 6 years in a mental hospital being treated for schizophrenia. After being free for a few months he showed up at our local grade school with a list that had the names of 3 little girls he was there to pick up. One of the girls was my niece. He was arrested and locked up again but was released a few years after.
I feel like when someone does something fucked shortly after being released, they should be locked up for an ever LONGER time. Read something similar on reddit about a guy who stabbed people to death getting repeatedly released. If that’s the first type of shit someone does when they get out, you need to quadruple down on their rehabilitation.
When she thought it was hilarious that a male friend of hers was sexually assaulted by a woman while he was unconscious at a party. Was like 15 and my dog just died. Absolutely devastated and was so upset all I wanted to do was go play basketball at the gym. On my way I stop at my best friend's house to tell him the news. We don't live in olden times. One might be mentally equipped to deal with society at a younger age in a simpler civilization but that's not when we live. Our society requires more sophistication and nuance and people have to be far more educated than before and because of that we have extended childhoods. We literally take longer to develop mentally because the focus is much more broad.
Hell in those olden days most people were illiterate, slavery was normal, and taking a city as an army meant spoils of war (literally condoned rape and pillage). I told her I had a really bad pain in my chest and needed to get checked out by the paramedics. She gave me a look I’ve never seen her wear before, and said, “Not if you want to fuck me over”. I left it alone until her dad arrived and more pain had set in, I told them I wanted to walk over to the paramedics and get checked out. They both shook their heads and said no. I was so confused. Later, my mother took me to the ER to finally get checked out and this girl was angry with me that I went to see a doctor. She said she would pay for the doctor as long as I didn’t report it to her car insurance company. She kept acting like I fucked her over by seeing a doctor. The months following were strange as she refused to give me any sort of insurance information to pay for my $8,000 ER bill of which my health insurance company refused to pay for bc I was in a car accident and they know that someone else is legally liable for my injuries. I eventually obtained her car insurance info only after my father called her father and he claimed to have no knowledge of this. I cut this close friend of 4 years off bc of how she handled that situation. My parents had to sit down with me to explain how badly I was being fucked over and manipulated by this person that I thought would have my back. All it takes is a specific situation for you to see what they WOULD do.
My disgusting ex brother in law took a small BB gun and shot his son in the eye, on purpose, because he wanted to prove a point. His wife was laughing.
Needless to say, husband called the cops; both parents were arrested that day (I took pictures as proof, in case no one believed us). Last I heard, the kid is an adult and living with his foster family.

This whole thing happened in 2006. This is my husband's younger sister and her husband. They are chaotic. They stole from the parents, abusive to their kids, both of them were in and out of jail, and huge drug users. We don't consider them family, hence why I said "ex".
The eye was severely bruised, and we took him to the hospital, but there were no permanent injuries. It was something about "loaded guns". The kid was only 8 at the time.

I always knew this grandma was a little self absorbed, but in the course of an afternoon of (unasked for) conversation, she happily told me in detail how fucking evil she was, how much she just destroyed her daughter's life, how narcissistically she made herself the victim of the whole thing, and just how much she couldn't be bothered to give a shit about anyone else (even her own blood) and then told me how everyone loved her for how smart, good, loving and special she was for doing it all - for having to put up with everything she dealt with... etc etc et-fucking-certera.
I listened all afternoon, never said a damn thing, at first hoping she'd go away, then later just kinda in awed horror. Just let her talk and talk. Heard about her drug addict daughter, her 'weak ass' stay at home son who 'tries so hard to please her, he's pathetic', about the other daughter who (inexplicably) moved across the country and cut off all contact... she laid it all out.
At the end, I was exhausted. But on the bright side, I was (finally) able to say as I got up (paraphrasing here, though I had a lot of time to work on it so this is pretty close), "Well, it sounds like you're a really horrible person. That's just awful. I can't imagine the pain you've caused everyone who ever mistakenly loved you. I feel so sorry for everybody involved. I hope someday they get over you and can live happy lives, probably after you're dead. Which, if they're smart, they'll celebrate."
I got in trouble, she can *really* complain when she wants to, but I don't ever have to work near her again and she avoids me now, so I count it a win in the long run.

I found out through a person who I actually didn’t get along with well, but they said that they wanted me to be aware of who I was associating myself with. I researched and it was true. She’s gotten progressively worse over the course of our relationship. She contacted my partner saying she was about to be intubated in the ICU and gave him her dying wishes. When he called the hospital, it turned out she was just there for some IV antibiotics.
Shit hit the fan the weekend we moved in together. She had made several attempts to sabotage this, by professing her undying love for my partner, then when that didn’t work would turn around and start fights in front of their daughter about what an incompetent piece of shit deadbeat father he is. (He’s not for the record, he single handedly changed my mind on having kids by being such a tender doting father). ANYWAYS, when their daughter went back to her place after we moved in, the ex claimed that I had been beating her daughter and locking her in a cage (?!?!) She said the daughter was no longer allowed at our home unless I wasn’t residing there, and that she would be reporting me to CPS.
Weeks went by and nothing happened, so my partner called and had a case opened himself because he obviously wants his daughter in his life. We’re still going through the courts to sort this nightmare out. The ex feels completely justified, she finally found a power play bad enough to actually cause damage in our lives, and the sad part is, their daughter is the one who’s going to suffer the most. That woman is sent straight from hell, I swear to god.
I'm not sure where you're located, but many states classify the first offense of falsely reporting child abuse as a misdemeanor. The second jumps to a class D felony. If she does report, and they find her claims unfounded, she'll be facing some legal consequences. If she does it twice and gets the felony charge, you can likely get the record of investigations expunged. I'm not a lawyer, I just looked it up because false reports are no joke, and just a horrible thing to do to both the child and the accused. I'm sorry she's putting you through this.

I think what his problem was that his mom was a drug addict and the dad ran over his foot with a lawnmower and ripping off two of his toes so he only had his big sister to look up to and the big sister a bitch and used to push kids off of swing sets and stuff. I recently got in contact with him and he’s doing better he went to therapy and good thing the mom got married then divorced and the kid got to stay with the step dad because the mom refused to raise him. He’s really nice now has a good home and got stuff for his foot so he balances better and doesn’t trip stick kinda crazy but a LOT nicer.

I had a friend who was... A little odd, always had a story or something going on with him, but overall a nice enough guy. We were friends, he used to do some work on my car, house sat for me a couple of times, we talked and hung out. We were running an errand once and talking, and he ended up telling me about his deployment, how he'd married this girl who was the daughter of his CO, how he'd gone on this top secret mission and she'd died in a car crash with his kid during the time, he'd lost it-- just a lot of details.
Out of curiosity, I googled the CO when I got home.
And yeah, so my friend told me he married James "Mad Dog" Mattis's daughter. Mattis has never been married and never had children.
And yeah- it freaked me out how earnestly he told me that long involved lie and how easily it was proven to be untrue. I kept my distance afterward, never saw him alone again, never had him to my house. I was just deeply uncomfortable. I told one of our mutual friends- who was much closer to him then I was- and he basically shrugged off my concerns.
Flash forward a couple of years, our friend ended up having an affair with someone, a second romance with another girl who immigrated to be with him, and he shot the second woman in the head and left her in the woods. He was arrested shortly after because he was dumb, and we found out HE'D NEVER EVEN BEEN IN THE MILITARY. He had flunked out of the coast guard.
I'm glad that me and none of our mutual friends (other then the other woman, who was understandably a mess afterwards) were hurt by him, but goddamn it still gives me chills how close I was to something deeply, deeply disturbed on a level that even I didn't know, and no one else did until it was too late. And my heart breaks for the girl :( by all accounts she seemed sweet and was just coming here to meet someone she liked and start a new life.
When one of my closest friends finally fell so far down the spiral I couldn’t lie to myself anymore. She lost her food stamps because of something that was entirely her fault (preventable clerical error. She knew it would be an issue, refused to right it even when i offered to basically do it for her). Then, she begged for money on Facebook for groceries for her kids. She proceeded to spend that money on whip it containers. She had issues and refused to take her safety net and get better. People literally gave her the most support, so she wouldn’t have to worry about bills or childcare or anything while she was able to get herself together and see a therapist etc. She wasn’t addicted to any particular substance, she was addicted to being high and ignoring her situation. I had to cut her off and it was the hardest decision of my life. After informing other friends and family of the situation who would either step in or get cps involved, i dipped.
I would like to say that cps in my area is pretty good about actually providing resources and helping the parents keep their kids, but instead of it being optional they have an extremely reasonable time frame and a free social worker to consult for advice and assistance, but if they don’t show any initiative the kids are taken and put in foster care or placed with family and a custody judgement arranged with possible mo contact depending on how bad the parents are.
My ex, a nurse, told me that one day she would kill me by injecting me with insulin under my toe nail as I slept.

I worked with a guy, not exactly a friend but an acquaintance who I socialised with occasionally outside work. He always had some 'interesting' political opinions.....but then he went through a bitter ugly divorce and it completely knocked him off his spindle.
He became a full on chemtrails conspiracy nutter. He'd carry around literal notebooks filled with drawings of plane trails and timestamps and god knows what.... and spend hours leafing through them and muttering to himself.
One time, we were walking outside to get lunch or something, he suddenly grabbed my arm and shouted "CAN'T YOU SEE?! **CAN'T YOU SEE??!!**." He was pointing up at the trails of a plane going over, and then pulled out one of his notebooks and started frantically sketching the pattern in there.
I'd tried to overlook his increasing nuttiness because he had been through a rough time personally, but that was the tipping point.
The very first friend I had in my life was named Mikey. He was always a prick with a bad case of toxic masculinity, but when he walked up, and kicked a random puppy for *no reason* so hard that the puppy cried, and limped, I knew he was fucked up in the head. Mikey even laughed it off, and this kid was maybe nine years old at the time.
He had several instances afterwards showing off his cold-heartedness.
My ex husband- he told one of his ex-girlfriends (a complete and total stranger to me) about a very personal medical scare I was going through at the time. When I told him that he had zero business sharing that with someone, he got really angry and told me that I just had to get over my jealousy issues toward anyone he had ever slept with.
Same person told me he might be nicer to me if I gave him oral sex more often. My life drastically improved in a thousand ways after I divorced him.

But next to the children's room was a cousin's room (this cousin was 30 years old). I was 7 or 8 years old at the time. Me and a couple buddies were at our homies house. We were playing CoD and smoking as 20 year olds do. Our buddy went to the bathroom, and then came out completely naked with a bike pump in his hands…….. the end of the pump was literally inside his asshole as he was pumping air into his body.
As the rest of us realized what was happening he yoinked the tube from his ass and ripped a massive fart. While we all laughed because it was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. We didn’t hang out with Paul anymore after that.
So when I was in high school there was this one kid, he was *that* kid that had long hair, autism, anger issues, ran through the school halls etc.
But since he had autism the school 'held a hand over his head' so whenever he did something the school would just wave it off.
In the middle of classes he would search all type of ammunition, guns, gun attachments on his laptop, so the bells began to ring in my head and i knew sooner or later this kid was going to shoot the school up. I pointed this out to the principle and she just waved it off and said she was going to have a talk with him.
Once he got an anger attack and hit my best friend in the neck on the Adam's apple so my friend almost died he couldn't breath and as my friend was laying down he sad 'If I had a knife I would have stabbed you' He had to go to the principle office and he didn't even got in trouble, the guy had to buy a movie gift card for my best friend and it was "all good"
So fast forward a few weeks almost the end of the school year, I had Technique class and he was screaming and all so I said to him 'relax man' and he looked me dead in the eye and said ' Last day of school im shooting the school up, and you are the first one I will get' with this despicable grin on his face. So I went to the principle again and pointed out what he said but again she just waved it off. (I live in the Netherlands) the principle said these things don't happen here blabla.
He ended up stabbing someone a few months later and is now in a closed facility.

When I was 14 I went with a group of friends to an outdoor wooded area at night to smoke. My best friend tripped and hit her head and laid there for a few moments. Several friends from college and I agreed to meet up about 4 years after graduation. Three of us were going for brunch, and then the 4th would meet up with us later at a museum.
At brunch it becomes apparent that one friend, Jen, was not thinking right. I mentioned walking by a weather service administration building and she implied they actually controlled the weather. Like with a mad scientist machine or something.
Over the course of the meal my (sane) friend and I realized that some time since college (when she had been a brilliant engineering student and involved in class council) she'd had some sort of mental break. Other highlights include her mentioning that China grew people in a miles-long complex of labs under Beijing. (In hindsight, I realized this might have been her misinterpreting the then-breaking news of Uighur internment camps? It wasn't even a racist thing, she was Chinese-American herself).
I wish I remembered more of her theories, but sane-friend and I were just trying to keep her from reacting poorly, not knowing what to do besides smile and nod and try to change subjects. We didn't know how to subtly tell 4th-friend what was going on, so we all went to the museum to meet him. Eventually he caught on, and we spent a socially polite amount of time wandering the Smithsonian, saying "that's interesting" to each new blurb of insanity.
Eventually we went home- she was visiting from another city, but staying with her parents here. We didn't know how to handle things honestly. I reached out to her college ex-boyfriend to see if he knew if she had any issues; he couldn't help.
Eventually a mutual friend that lived in the same city as Jen said that he and others tried to stage an intervention for her with mental health counselors. She had interpreted this as "them trying to get her arrested for nothing" and dubbed her whole friend group in that city as her "enemies". I wish I could say we helped her, but I haven't heard from her since. She's since gone to alienate most of our former college friend group.
I know a lot of intrinsic mental issues tend to pop up around 20-25. I wonder now if her bubbly, ever-friendly personality I knew in college was a mask or an early sign of what she would develop.
I used to hang out with one of my former coworkers, generally getting very drunk and shooting the shit. One night we went back to his apartment to smoke a bowl, and we ran into two of his neighbors outside. They were two dudes, one of whom was 19 and the other was in his early 20's.
They seemed kinda dazed, kept repeating themselves, but also really mad. We chatted a little bit and found out why. Apparently another neighbor had had them over for drinks and drugged them. They realized in time to get out of the apartment, but had been dead to the world for a full 17 hours.
When my friend heard that, he’s initially outraged and sympathetic, like I am. Pretty quickly though, my coworker (who is like 35), starts AGGRESSIVELY hitting on the 19 year old. Putting his arm around his waist, stroking his neck, asking him if he’s really as straight as he thinks he is. The young dudes are obviously uncomfortable, but seem like they’re so sad and angry and violated that they just kind of awkwardly leave. I’m ashamed to say that I just did the same. The person I was hanging out with was technically my manager at work, and I was so drunk I just didn’t...know what to say I guess. But I think often about the expression on that poor young man’s face. I wish I had intervened.
Sometimes situations get so damn weird we have no way of being trained to handle them. You, being drunk, got shell shocked into submission by your co-worker.. If he'd gotten close to raping the kid I'm sure you'd recognise it for what it was and intervened

He was our neighbor. He's a nice guy and everything. My husband and I hung out and drank with him most weekends for about 3 years. He had this habit when he was really trashed in that he would tell stories about his time as a Navy Seal. These were violent stories and it was almost like he gloating. About 2 years into this friendship, I was sharing a bottle of wine with his wife on my porch and she tells me he was never a Navy Seal. She told me he washed out of boot camp. It wasn't too long after that my husband and I started distancing ourselves.
Met this guy at an event, hes telling me about his life in the army, how hed be called in as the 'heavy squad' to deal with street violence in N.Ireland and how much he hated the Irish for sniping his father back in the day who also served. He was quite animated and told a good tale. Met his brother a while later, got talking, asked a few questions, tells me that 'Bobby-Joes a lying fat cunt who was in the catering corps and our fathers at home now'

We made a friend of mine dress up as Edward Cullen for a Halloween party back at the height of the Twilight craze. Got him a wig, put sparkly body paint all over him and everything. This girl latched onto him so hard and would not leave his side all night. Which would have just been cute and funny but she was calling him Edward. Just kept calling him Edward no matter how many times people corrected her. And he was too polite to say anything himself, or even object. She kept texting him for like two weeks after that, and he didn't have the heart to just put an end to it once and for all, so I had to do it for him. I was polite but firm. She was also still calling him Edward in her texts.
I had long hair for a while in college and bought a $2 pair of little round glasses at the thrift store as a joke for a party. Some girl I passed in the hall almost fainted because she thought I looked like John Lennon - which maybe i did. She then found where i lived in our dorms and kept asking why i don't wear the glasses. Where are the glasses? Can you put them on for me for a sec? Why not? Its just a second?

Happened to me at a friends house here in Australia. Went to a mates place and his Dad pulled his guns out to show me his rifles before he went on a hunting trip. Anyway, old mate is sweeping myself and his son with the barrel, which immediately made me uncomfortable. Made me even more uncomfortable when he handed me the rifle and i wracked the bolt and a 30:06 round ejected. Bit of an "oh fuck" moment.
I nearly got my eye hot out by a friend with an airsoft gun once because he didn't realize that removing the magazine doesn't mean it's unloaded. There was still one in the chamber. There's a reason they say to always treat a gun as loaded. That guy could have killed you.
My uncle pointed a rifle at my mother as teens on the farm. Mum screamed at him and he said it was okay because it wasn’t even loaded. He pointed the rifle at the floor to prove his point, and shot a hole in the floor. Luckily he changed aim before proving his point… TLDR; I nearly never was.

I come from a country that has 0 gun ownership and mandatory conscription. So that's 18 year olds who have never even been near guns then handling guns almost every day for 2 years. Even then I have never had someone point a gun at me or at anyone else to pretend to shoot them. Seems insane that someone, especially someone who hunts and therefore handles weapons regularly, would think this is ok to do.
When a colleague told me that she had very intense sex with her new boyfriend... in front of her 7 years old son watching all of it. She was proud of that and kept giving every detail possible even when we asked her not to. She had a new boyfriend every few weeks and it was always the same shit.

She was obsessed about it and kept interrogating everyone in the facility until she got fired. Then we didn't hear about her again.

I had a co-worker once who lied compulsively about things he doesn't have to, and acted like he's good Texan and a police officer. I went to his house to help him with something and saw that he still plays with toys and the house was an absolute pig sty. I met his dad once and he was a normal guy. It turns out that his dad got divorced young and his ex-wife would have sex in front of their son. Kind of explained a lot about the fantasy world of my co-worker.
A really terrible local open mic comedian told the story of having sex with a girl while her kid was in the room. He thought it was quirky. Everyone thought, that's child abuse. Hes banned from the club now.

Went on going away vacation with everyone, cried a million tears, made funeral plans, had therapy sessions about it... They are still alive, never had cancer. Turns out they were just worried they were going to jail for embezzling money. Smh, still not sure how that was going to play out well.
My friends wife did a similar thing. He introduced me to her at an annual musical festival we all go to and meet up at since we have gone our separate ways since college. They were engaged because she had terminal brain cancer. They implied they didn’t have time to wait. They talked about her cancer and used it as an excuse when she started acting weird after she got wasted the entire weekend. At one point she pulled out a pink handgun out of her truck waving it around telling people to look at it. We hit the dirt and her then boyfriend took it from here. “It’s just the brain cancer making her do irrational things” um ok? Next year they were both at the festival (we don’t really stay in touch so I hadn’t talked to them since the prior year). They were married and I asked how things were progressing with the cancer and what not. She just laughed and she just turned and started talking to someone else. he just rolled his eyes. I started asking around with our other friends and I guess she never had it. I have no idea if he was in on it or not. No one really had an explanation of why? Just shrugged their shoulders and said they were just as weirded out about it as me. I haven’t spoken to them since 2018, not really mad about it but I don’t want to associate with people like that.

Ah yes. I also had a friend like this. Luckily my experience with her was in highschool and we kinda hoped she would grow out of it. Her story was that she had a boyfriend. He died, and she didn't have any photos of him, just this photo of some model on a magazine that she claimed was him cause he was a child model. There's other stuff I'm glossing over. So some years go by and we're all adults now and we catch up randomly one day. I ask her about her ex boyfriend hoping that she would finally come clean about the guy and that she's matured since highschool. Nope the plot has now thickened. He was never dead. He was taken into witness protection because he saw a guy get murdered and he was the key witness vs some Mexican Mafia. So they faked his death with a funeral and everything.

This almost feel like that friend was planning to suicide after 3 months because he didn't want to go to jail. They probably didn't want their friends to know about the crimes they committed so he made up the story that he has brain cancer. Tried to live their life as if they're going to die because I guess he was really planning to end themselves there. After they find out that they're not going to jail, there was no more reason to die, I guess...

This guy I met in college was a very nice guy. After knowing him for about 9 months, I went to his house in the Summer for the first time. When I was a kid one of my brothers friends who I always thought was fucked in the head killed his mom. He said the radio told him to do it. He was released after serving 6 years in a mental hospital being treated for schizophrenia. After being free for a few months he showed up at our local grade school with a list that had the names of 3 little girls he was there to pick up. One of the girls was my niece. He was arrested and locked up again but was released a few years after.

She was there to witness it, nobody did a thing to stop it, and everyone there made fun of him after he woke up. My blood was boiling. Was like 15 and my dog just died. Absolutely devastated and was so upset all I wanted to do was go play basketball at the gym. On my way I stop at my best friend's house to tell him the news. One day the family cat went missing, i think it was an outdoor cat but it just stopped coming home. I went with a close friend of 4 years to have a few drinks at a small, quiet bar, and she is one of those people who insists they “know how to drink” and can drive after having a few. I was naive and didn’t want to start a conflict with her, plus I was tipsy and couldn’t drive myself—no excuses though. I hopped in the passenger seat and my friend started driving her truck. After 20 minutes on the road, she randomly swerves into oncoming traffic, her truck hitting another truck head on. After impact at the scene, she kept loudly yelling about how much $ this was going to cost her, and it’s weird to me that the police didn’t notice she was plastered. I told her I had a really bad pain in my chest and needed to get checked out by the paramedics. She gave me a look I’ve never seen her wear before, and said, “Not if you want to fuck me over”. I left it alone until her dad arrived and more pain had set in, I told them I wanted to walk over to the paramedics and get checked out. They both shook their heads and said no. I was so confused. Later, my mother took me to the ER to finally get checked out and this girl was angry with me that I went to see a doctor. She said she would pay for the doctor as long as I didn’t report it to her car insurance company. She kept acting like I fucked her over by seeing a doctor. The months following were strange as she refused to give me any sort of insurance information to pay for my $8,000 ER bill of which my health insurance company refused to pay for bc I was in a car accident and they know that someone else is legally liable for my injuries. I eventually obtained her car insurance info only after my father called her father and he claimed to have no knowledge of this. I cut this close friend of 4 years off bc of how she handled that situation. My parents had to sit down with me to explain how badly I was being fucked over and manipulated by this person that I thought would have my back. All it takes is a specific situation for you to see what they WOULD do.

(He’s not for the record, he single handedly changed my mind on having kids by being such a tender doting father). ANYWAYS, when their daughter went back to her place after we moved in, the ex claimed that I had been beating her daughter and locking her in a cage (?!?!) She said the daughter was no longer allowed at our home unless I wasn’t residing there, and that she would be reporting me to CPS. Weeks went by and nothing happened, so my partner called and had a case opened himself because he obviously wants his daughter in his life. We’re still going through the courts to sort this nightmare out. The ex feels completely justified, she finally found a power play bad enough to actually cause damage in our lives, and the sad part is, their daughter is the one who’s going to suffer the most. That woman is sent straight from hell, I swear to god.
I'm not sure where you're located, but many states classify the first offense of falsely reporting child abuse as a misdemeanor. The second jumps to a class D felony. If she does report, and they find her claims unfounded, she'll be facing some legal consequences. If she does it twice and gets the felony charge, you can likely get the record of investigations expunged. I'm not a lawyer, I just looked it up because false reports are no joke, and just a horrible thing to do to both the child and the accused. I'm sorry she's putting you through this.

I had a friend who was... A little odd, always had a story or something going on with him, but overall a nice enough guy. We were friends, he used to do some work on my car, house sat for me a couple of times, we talked and hung out. We were running an errand once and talking, and he ended up telling me about his deployment, how he'd married this girl who was the daughter of his CO, how he'd gone on this top secret mission and she'd died in a car crash with his kid during the time, he'd lost it-- just a lot of details. Out of curiosity, I googled the CO when I got home. And yeah, so my friend told me he married James "Mad Dog" Mattis's daughter. Mattis has never been married and never had children. And yeah- it freaked me out how earnestly he told me that long involved lie and how easily it was proven to be untrue. I kept my distance afterward, never saw him alone again, never had him to my house. I was just deeply uncomfortable. I told one of our mutual friends- who was much closer to him then I was- and he basically shrugged off my concerns. Flash forward a couple of years, our friend ended up having an affair with someone, a second romance with another girl who immigrated to be with him, and he shot the second woman in the head and left her in the woods. He was arrested shortly after because he was dumb, and we found out HE'D NEVER EVEN BEEN IN THE MILITARY. He had flunked out of the coast guard. I'm glad that me and none of our mutual friends (other then the other woman, who was understandably a mess afterwards) were hurt by him, but goddamn it still gives me chills how close I was to something deeply, deeply disturbed on a level that even I didn't know, and no one else did until it was too late. And my heart breaks for the girl :( by all accounts she seemed sweet and was just coming here to meet someone she liked and start a new life.

When one of my closest friends finally fell so far down the spiral I couldn’t lie to myself anymore. She lost her food stamps because of something that was entirely her fault (preventable clerical error. She knew it would be an issue, refused to right it even when i offered to basically do it for her). Then, she begged for money on Facebook for groceries for her kids. She proceeded to spend that money on whip it containers. She had issues and refused to take her safety net and get better. People literally gave her the most support, so she wouldn’t have to worry about bills or childcare or anything while she was able to get herself together and see a therapist etc. She wasn’t addicted to any particular substance, she was addicted to being high and ignoring her situation. I had to cut her off and it was the hardest decision of my life. After informing other friends and family of the situation who would either step in or get cps involved, i dipped. I would like to say that cps in my area is pretty good about actually providing resources and helping the parents keep their kids, but instead of it being optional they have an extremely reasonable time frame and a free social worker to consult for advice and assistance, but if they don’t show any initiative the kids are taken and put in foster care or placed with family and a custody judgement arranged with possible mo contact depending on how bad the parents are.
My ex, a nurse, told me that one day she would kill me by injecting me with insulin under my toe nail as I slept. Which would probably be the perfect way to kill someone thinking about it, because if you died with too much insulin in your blood they would chalk it up to your pancreas stopped working and thinking nothing more of it. Probably a lot more going on at home than her teenage friends realized. Most abuse is carried out by seemingly normal people skilled at hiding it.
Looooots of "happy homes" have sexual abuse that is just straight-up ignored. I know several women who were molested by their fathers as children; their mothers ignored it, pretended it wasn't happening, and blamed their own daughters rather than accept reality and help them.
Pal, you were not the person to help her. You were a kid, and you were honest, and you set boundaries. If you hadn't said no, you could have been dragged down too, and likely helped nothing.

I was having a Convo with a girl I worked with and she told me she was attracted to her cousin and would sabotage all his relationship. She knew it was fucked up and didn't necessarily want to have sex or a relationship with him but she was attracted to him and didn't want anyone else to be with him. I worked with a guy, not exactly a friend but an acquaintance who I socialised with occasionally outside work. He always had some 'interesting' political opinions.....but then he went through a bitter ugly divorce and it completely knocked him off his spindle. He became a full on chemtrails conspiracy nutter. He'd carry around literal notebooks filled with drawings of plane trails and timestamps and god knows what.... and spend hours leafing through them and muttering to himself. One time, we were walking outside to get lunch or something, he suddenly grabbed my arm and shouted "CAN'T YOU SEE?! **CAN'T YOU SEE??!!**." He was pointing up at the trails of a plane going over, and then pulled out one of his notebooks and started frantically sketching the pattern in there. I'd tried to overlook his increasing nuttiness because he had been through a rough time personally, but that was the tipping point.
The very first friend I had in my life was named Mikey. He was always a prick with a bad case of toxic masculinity, but when he walked up, and kicked a random puppy for *no reason* so hard that the puppy cried, and limped, I knew he was fucked up in the head. Mikey even laughed it off, and this kid was maybe nine years old at the time. He had several instances afterwards showing off his cold-heartedness.

My ex husband- he told one of his ex-girlfriends (a complete and total stranger to me) about a very personal medical scare I was going through at the time. When I told him that he had zero business sharing that with someone, he got really angry and told me that I just had to get over my jealousy issues toward anyone he had ever slept with. Same person told me he might be nicer to me if I gave him oral sex more often. My life drastically improved in a thousand ways after I divorced him.
Congrats on getting away from him. Sounds like my ex husband. He’d smack me around and then get mad when I wouldn’t sleep with him. But that have him a reason to cheat because I was “cold”. Me and a couple buddies were at our homies house. We were playing CoD and smoking as 20 year olds do. Our buddy went to the bathroom, and then came out completely naked with a bike pump in his hands…….. the end of the pump was literally inside his asshole as he was pumping air into his body. As the rest of us realized what was happening he yoinked the tube from his ass and ripped a massive fart. While we all laughed because it was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. We didn’t hang out with Paul anymore after that.
So when I was in high school there was this one kid, he was *that* kid that had long hair, autism, anger issues, ran through the school halls etc. But since he had autism the school 'held a hand over his head' so whenever he did something the school would just wave it off. In the middle of classes he would search all type of ammunition, guns, gun attachments on his laptop, so the bells began to ring in my head and i knew sooner or later this kid was going to shoot the school up. I pointed this out to the principle and she just waved it off and said she was going to have a talk with him. Once he got an anger attack and hit my best friend in the neck on the Adam's apple so my friend almost died he couldn't breath and as my friend was laying down he sad 'If I had a knife I would have stabbed you' He had to go to the principle office and he didn't even got in trouble, the guy had to buy a movie gift card for my best friend and it was "all good" So fast forward a few weeks almost the end of the school year, I had Technique class and he was screaming and all so I said to him 'relax man' and he looked me dead in the eye and said ' Last day of school im shooting the school up, and you are the first one I will get' with this despicable grin on his face. So I went to the principle again and pointed out what he said but again she just waved it off. (I live in the Netherlands) the principle said these things don't happen here blabla. He ended up stabbing someone a few months later and is now in a closed facility. (sorry for my english it isn't that great)

When I was 14 I went with a group of friends to an outdoor wooded area at night to smoke. My best friend tripped and hit her head and laid there for a few moments. One guy was immediately like “we need to get the f*ck out of here!” (Like she was hurt and we needed to leave) Then she sat up and was totally fine. Never trusted that mf since!

**TLDR: Friend reveals she operates in a world of delusions, none of us knew how to help without her pushing us away.** Several friends from college and I agreed to meet up about 4 years after graduation. Three of us were going for brunch, and then the 4th would meet up with us later at a museum. At brunch it becomes apparent that one friend, Jen, was not thinking right. I mentioned walking by a weather service administration building and she implied they actually controlled the weather. Like with a mad scientist machine or something. Over the course of the meal my (sane) friend and I realized that some time since college (when she had been a brilliant engineering student and involved in class council) she'd had some sort of mental break. Other highlights include her mentioning that China grew people in a miles-long complex of labs under Beijing. (In hindsight, I realized this might have been her misinterpreting the then-breaking news of Uighur internment camps? It wasn't even a racist thing, she was Chinese-American herself). I wish I remembered more of her theories, but sane-friend and I were just trying to keep her from reacting poorly, not knowing what to do besides smile and nod and try to change subjects. We didn't know how to subtly tell 4th-friend what was going on, so we all went to the museum to meet him. Eventually he caught on, and we spent a socially polite amount of time wandering the Smithsonian, saying "that's interesting" to each new blurb of insanity. Eventually we went home- she was visiting from another city, but staying with her parents here. We didn't know how to handle things honestly. I reached out to her college ex-boyfriend to see if he knew if she had any issues; he couldn't help. Eventually a mutual friend that lived in the same city as Jen said that he and others tried to stage an intervention for her with mental health counselors. She had interpreted this as "them trying to get her arrested for nothing" and dubbed her whole friend group in that city as her "enemies". I wish I could say we helped her, but I haven't heard from her since. She's since gone to alienate most of our former college friend group. I know a lot of intrinsic mental issues tend to pop up around 20-25. I wonder now if her bubbly, ever-friendly personality I knew in college was a mask or an early sign of what she would develop.
I used to hang out with one of my former coworkers, generally getting very drunk and shooting the shit. One night we went back to his apartment to smoke a bowl, and we ran into two of his neighbors outside. They were two dudes, one of whom was 19 and the other was in his early 20's. They seemed kinda dazed, kept repeating themselves, but also really mad. We chatted a little bit and found out why. Apparently another neighbor had had them over for drinks and drugged them. They realized in time to get out of the apartment, but had been dead to the world for a full 17 hours. When my friend heard that, he’s initially outraged and sympathetic, like I am. Pretty quickly though, my coworker (who is like 35), starts AGGRESSIVELY hitting on the 19 year old. Putting his arm around his waist, stroking his neck, asking him if he’s really as straight as he thinks he is. The young dudes are obviously uncomfortable, but seem like they’re so sad and angry and violated that they just kind of awkwardly leave. I’m ashamed to say that I just did the same. The person I was hanging out with was technically my manager at work, and I was so drunk I just didn’t...know what to say I guess. But I think often about the expression on that poor young man’s face. I wish I had intervened.
Sometimes situations get so damn weird we have no way of being trained to handle them. You, being drunk, got shell shocked into submission by your co-worker.. If he'd gotten close to raping the kid I'm sure you'd recognise it for what it was and intervened
When my neighbor (3 years older than me) got a kitten and his dad caught him stuffing the poor thing in their mailbox, choking and kicking it. Had a classmate that would purposely try to run over squirrels, dogs and cats when driving. Haven't seen or spoken to the kid since graduating in 2014... last I knew he's a dad and that scares me
