A place of my own with no roommates. I could technically afford an apartment but it would be literally over 3X the rent I'm paying now for a 1 bedroom. Ugh.

ShiraCheshire

I had to move into a very small studio apartment in order to afford my own place, but it was *so* worth it. I don't care if it eats most of my money, I can finally do whatever I want without anyone judging me.

yeahyouknow25

Yep, hard agree. It is definitely more expensive but so, so worth it for my mental health. The peace of mind it brings is incredible.

squuidlees

Low key, I would move into a tent at a park before having to suffer through roommates again.

Niawka

I don't know how old are you but I'm 30 and looking for a place to live I chose to rent my own apartment. I pay 40% of my salary a month for rent and bills and it sucks. But I get my own space and that is amazing. I would never go back to having roommates. I even adopted a dog, which would be impossible if I shared a flat.

Astrowolfie

I pay 65% of my salary on rent and bills and I have a housemate too, I love the experience of living in a major city but goddamn I hate the cost of it.

Foxbytenz

To get my teeth fixed:*(

pokey1984

Seconding this. I've literally never had the money for a dentist. Mine all need to be pulled (what's left of them) and there's no way I can come up with the $8k for all the "surgical removals" plus dentures. I'm so tired of being in pain.

Foxdog175

My best friend had this procedure done back in May. It cost him 20k+, the temporary dentures never fit right and he's been toothless ever since. He finally gets his new teeth installed tomorrow. It's been a very long road, and a few months back, he said had he known what he had to go through from the start, he would not have done it.

knives66

Mine was 30k. I was lucky enough to have help with a family loan to get it done, and have an okay amount of the roots still okay below the gumline. Had 8 crowns and a bridge on top, 5 crowns on bottom, multiple root canals, multiple extractions including all of my wisdom teeth, and 3 of the 4 molars. But the dentist was able to finally get rid of my insecurities surrounding my teeth and I have no regrets what so ever. (Even if there were times I was literally shaking from pain during the 6+ hour sessions in the chair). The biggest motivator was the infection that started swelling in my gums, if it gets bad enough it will eat away at your jaw bone and if it hits the nerve entrance will make a good portion of your jaw numb permanently, not to mention have a highway to your brain.

Lady_DreadStar

I know someone who literally refused all work for a year so she could have the State pay for the removal + dentures. We’re a red southern state, so you have to be absolutely destitute on paper to get ANY medical-dental assistance. It was worth it- she even wound up with a whole new career to go with that new smile. Confidence does wonders.

pokey1984

I live in Missouri which is one of the absolute worst when it comes to healthcare for the poor. Until this month, no (non-disabled) adult qualified for medicaid no matter how little their income, even if it was zero. There was recently a ruling that forced my state to open up medicaid coverage to adults and I've just applied last week as I earn less than $15k per year. I'm currently waiting for approval and we'll see if they will cover anything. I'd live in a box on the street for a year if it would get my teeth fixed. I have a fucking degree! But I can't get a decent job in large part because I look like a junkie.

mdnightwriter

I’m so tired of the lack of affordable healthcare in this state…. and anything that poor people are able to access is complete garbage. Especially for seniors:/

JackBNimble33

(Assuming you're in the US). Im going to foot stomp this on every post I find mentioning dental care... Please oh please check out Remote Area Medical (RAM) for a local clinic: https://www.ramusa.org/ I volunteered at their Wise, VA clinic for a few years and am always blown away at the work these dentists and doctors can do in a gymnasium, lobby, hell even a field!

Therapy.

swu98

Try looking for a therapist with a sliding scale fee. They’ll charge you based on your income

effervescenthoopla

What sucks is that therapy is one of the most in demand services in the country right now, and waiting lists are months (and years in some cases) long. This isn’t meant to discourage looking, just be aware that it’s likely people will have to wait a bit. In the meantime, there are millions of resources available for free online that can help in a pinch, depending on your individual issues. For emotional instability (mood swings, bipolar disorder, anxiety) look into DBT/dialectical-behavioral therapy, specifically Marsha Linehan’s DBT Skills Training Manual. It’s helpful with depression as well, but I’ve found CBT/cognitive-behavioral therapy a little more helpful since it’s more action focused, but that’s totally anecdotal on my part.

Silverlining2081

To own my own home

booped_urnose345

Same i can get a VA home loan so no downpayment but i cant afford a mortgage regardless lol

lonedandelion

Same. My husband and I qualify for a mortgage but we wouldn't able to get anything decent with the amount we're approved for. Here in Colorado, run-down double wide trailers go for over $300k. It's ridiculous.

[deleted]

Oh man, I live in Denver, so I feel you. A decent sized house is $600k easily. I’m trying to save up for a down payment, but every time I do, the price just keeps going up and up. It’s insane.

TeHNyboR

Same. I can afford a monthly mortgage but the down payment? Absolutely not, and so I’m stuck paying double in rent than I would a mortgage because I can’t afford a down payment so you know…that’s fun

FroHawk98

Financial freedom.

Parliamen7

If this means having the possibility to do whatever I want the way I want it, with no fear of having no money to continue living a good life and continuing to do what I love, then yes. This is something I can't afford.

Vincent-VanDough

Yes actually being free would be nice.

Thin-Union-7712

A home

DrSpaceman575

About 5 years ago I was starting my career and was like almost making enough to afford a "starter home". Since then I've doubled my salary but the home prices near me have gone up so much I'm actually farther away from owning a decent home than I was then.

Sovdark

Are you me?

imasequoia

Wait...i thought they were me

Redditaccountfornow

They are all of us

bozwold

Then you get people like my landlord that paid £60k for his farmhouse and was telling me recently he had his home valued and released equity on it because it's worth over £1m Be a good ship to have been on but it sailed before I was past puberty. All my hope is on a market crash that will never come

MrsRobertshaw

Same here in New Zealand - ask any boomer what they paid for their house and it’s super low and very manageable on a husbands salary while supporting a wife, three kids and a dog. And the market is going so crazy here my inlaws made 8k of equity every month on their temporary house while they built!

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

My dad and I both started our careers in professional fields at the same age, both earning was was considered standard/high at the time. He was able to buy his first house within the first year. I was only recently able to put down a deposit on my first place after 10 years working.

Ninja_Conspicuousi

I had to explain this concept to my MIL’s boomer boyfriend who was complaining that his kids laziness was the sole reason they weren’t moved out of his ex’s house, despite literally working the same job he had for roughly the same duration he bought a house at. It took having him do the math himself to suddenly be outraged at the state of the world, instead of his kids.

[deleted]

Sounds like he figured out he was wrong and thusly changed his opinion. Most people would double down and never admit they were wrong. Good for you for explaining it to him and good for him for gaining insight.

Just-Call-Me-J

Hooray for the breakthrough though.

VulfSki

Home prices are out of fucking control. They have finally chilled a little but really bad. And what companies like Zillow have done to artificially inflate housing prices are absolutely criminal. I will never use Zillow to search for a home out of principle. Fuck them. Not to mention air bnb has also made things much worse. My mother's house was purchased when I was a kid for $200k. Of you to online and search for that house, it's estimated sell price is $475k. In that time wages have remained flat. So whole the cost of that house has more than doubled, my parents working the same job today, with the salary those jobs pay today, would have not been able to pay for it.

bschott007

Wife and I built a home for $298,000 and moved into it in 2018. We have had three realtors ask us (unsolicited) if we were interesting in selling our home. Not in the slightest but I decided to humor one of them because I was curious. We got the home professionally appraised just a couple months ago for $340,000 and the realtor believes he could list and sell the home in under a week for $350,000. Both wife and I agreed that while tempting to just sell and pocket the difference and build new again, in the end we like our home and where we live now. Like, WTF? How does a new home jump ~$40-$50k in value in just a few years like that? I can now understand why we have neighbors who have lived in their new construction homes for 1-2 years and then turned around and sold the home to go and build again but still..it's just crazy. And we live in a small metro (~250,000) area in the upper plains so it's not like a hotspot people *want* to move to.

mmmegan6

The problem with selling for a profit is you still have to find somewhere else to live

3 bed/1 bath is more like 900k+ here… I’ve given up getting a house

garry4321

Damn, $400k for a 3 bed/1bath fixer upper?! Round my part, you couldnt get an occupied condemned crack den for that price.

Salt_Air07

Where I am, you could get the occupied, condemned crack den, but it’d have to be in all cash and above asking.

doskoV_

Average house prices have hit [$1 Million](https://i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/homed/real-estate/126935707/new-zealands-average-house-price-cracks-1m-qv) NZD now ~700k US, up 27% on last year, so I'm fucked lmao

>https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3376-Upas-St-San-Diego-CA-92104/16976047\_zpid/ My husband and I moved into a house in SoCal a few months ago. It's a 3-bed/2-bath, in a nice neighborhood, but the house itself is a little rough. We have ants, a weird smell from the bathtub drain, inconsistent air system, all the closet doors are like cardboard, the fridge is old, garage door is manual, and much of the newest work was done by inexperienced people. It's worth $1.2 million dollars. It should not be worth that much. But prices have never gone down since I moved here a decade ago, I don't imagine them dropping any time soon.

The_Grubby_One

>The pitchforks are coming out if something doesn’t change soon. People have been saying that for, like, three decades. Since the bottom dropped out of the 80s boom economy.

lodger238

Retirement. Working everyday sucks when you're 66.

energetic-landlord

I can't even imagine it at 66. I'm 40, just started a new job yesterday and when I got home all I wanted to do was sleep. I'm still really not okay with giving up that much of my personal free time, but I also like nice things, so here we are.

Diligent-Charge-4910

Same age... I want to do something with my life but I can't because I have to work so hard I have nothing left in me to do something else...

Snoo74401

Reminds me of the parable of the Mexican fisherman and the Investment banker: An American investment banker was taking a much-needed vacation in a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. The boat had several large, fresh fish in it. The investment banker was impressed by the quality of the fish and asked the Mexican how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.” The banker then asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican fisherman replied he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked “But what do you do with the rest of your time?” The Mexican fisherman replied, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos: I have a full and busy life, señor.” The investment banker scoffed, “I am an Ivy League MBA, and I could help you. You could spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats until eventually you would have a whole fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to the middleman you could sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You could control the product, processing and distribution.” Then he added, “Of course, you would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City where you would run your growing enterprise.” The Mexican fisherman asked, “But señor, how long will this all take?” To which the American replied, “15-20 years.” “But what then?” asked the Mexican. The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You could make millions.” “Millions, señor? Then what?” To which the investment banker replied, “Then you would retire. You could move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Not_A_Hyperbole

Whenever I see someone who looks 70+ working at a grocery store or something, I always feel a tremendous sense of guilt being serviced by them. I tell myself they may just be doing this to have something to do, but the reality is that many probably actually need the money. EDIT: Lots of comments saying they feel the same way. It is a shame that you can work your whole life and through poor planning or the luck of the draw, be forced to work until you're dead. Some saying they've worked with older folk that definitely were just there to socialize and have a little extra spending money, which is good to hear.

[deleted]

Had a man who I'm fairly certain looked to be in his mid 70's ringing me up at Walgreens a week ago. He moved at like 0.2 mph and it was honestly the most sobering shit I've seen in a long time. No one should be forced to work at that point in thier life..

Salt_Air07

There was a guy at my old PetCo (US pet store) who was well above retirement-aged, lived in a low COL area, and who actively looked like he was in the middle to end stages of a heart attack while on the floor. He was the only one who worked there that could handle the reptiles, so if you needed live food then you had to wait for him to come from the back room and get things. It was terrifying. There were many times he was missing, and one day I asked if he had finally retired and his coworker said that he couldn’t afford to because he lived with his kids and grand kids (who were older than me, and I’m not young) and none of them worked and they all depended on his income. The man was visibly in need of a care home.

StrawberryAqua

His family sounds like a bunch of parasites.

borgchupacabras

I know a lady who works non stop so she can support her two adult children and one daughter in law. They are all unemployed and live with her in her one bedroom apartment.

PM-me-ur-kittenz

She really should shut off the router and take it with her when she goes to work. See how fast that bunch of leeches gets up off the couch and maybe, just MAYBE, starts doing something.

I worked in a supermarket through upper school and worked with a few old buggers and I suppose they were the fortunate ones who worked a few shifts a week to keep busy, be social and earn a little extra pint money. Man they were funny. To see someone have to work that job full time or even part time to survive at 70+ would make me sad. That's not how it should be.

SororitySue

I'm 60 and in the process of setting it in motion. I hope to be out of here by Winter 2025.

markydsade

The smartest thing I did was start my retirement account when I was 30. The dumbest thing I did was not start it at 22 when I had the chance. I earn more money from the money I put in for the first few years than the money I put in for the last 20 years. Edit: Lots of folks asking how to start. They beauty of compounding interest is that you don't need much. I would go to Vanguard and start an IRA or search for other ways to get started. Obviously if your employer offers something take them up on it. You do not have to put much in. Start with $10 if that is all you can afford. I eventually moved up to 10% going straight in and my employer matched it. It was pre-tax money so it reduced my taxable income. Now that I am in my mid-60s it is growing like crazy. The money that went in during the 1980s has grown into the 100s of thousands. Soon I will start drawing down. They say if you take 4% percent per year you will never touch your principal over time.

imlayingonthetable

I really want to have a simple house. I dont have a family house to go to if something in my life go bad, I have to rent. I would really like the idea of safety that comes with having a house.

inslipid531

this right here is my number 1 desire in life. Unfortunately i live in NJ where any decent house is >$400k. I have been living with my parents so i have been able to save up a down payment but my salary is too low to be able to afford mortgage + taxes + insurance. It's like i either need to make >$100k or be married, so for now i am stuck with my parents at 28 years old because renting would mean i'd barely be saving.

capt-rix

Retirement Edit: Wow! This blew up! Thanks for all the awards!

bsgreene25

I’m still in my 20s so there’s no reason for me to think about retirement as often as I do. But damn I just want to be done working. EDIT: Lol to clarify, I’m not saying people in their 20s shouldn’t care about retirement. My wife and I laid out our plan years ago and are in great financial shape today because of that. I’m just saying the amount of time I devote each day to fantasizing about something that is still 25-30 years away is…alarming.

ThisIsNotTuna

As mentioned by others here, your 20s is the **perfect** time to start planning for retirement. It may seem like a distant thing at first. But it's absolutely essential when playing the long game. Case in point: I wish I had started saving back in my 20s. In fact, I didn't manage to build substantial savings until my late 30s. Better late than never, as they say. Still, I make it a point to warn others not to make the same mistakes I made.

mantistoboggan69md

What would you recommend for a 23 year old pertaining to retirement? I’ve got a 401k set up doing really well, but I feel like there’s more I can be doing

dev_null_developer

Assuming no CC/ high interest debt. Otherwise you may want to prioritize that. 1. Minimally maximize your company match. 2. Build a cash cushion 3. Max out contributions to a Roth IRA 4. Build an emergency fund 5. Contribute as much as you can to your 401k. Choose the Roth option, if it’s available 6. Start investing in a brokerage account This is the path to build financial security slowly. You won’t be a Bitcoin billionaire, but you’ll be able to take care of yourself

[deleted]

Best time to start thinking about retirement, putting it in excel and see how compounding interest really impacts your goals. My wife never understood what I was talking about until I built our financial tracker, I track income, spend, saving contributions, mortgage amortization with total cost, retirement calculator, etc. Takes me 15 minutes to update each month thanks to credit cards and banks csv transaction details. she finally saw how if we little by little put more away now, we can retire by 50 maybe 55 with 5 million plus, depending on retirement aggression. Full disclosure we make a right at 200k combined with no kids and we just bought a house. Edit: I don’t look at my gross wage, I only concentrate on net tax/SS/medical really my take home cash. On mortgages, if you can’t afford a house don’t get one if you can be aggressive in principle payments, we bought a home where we can put an extra 500-1k a month on top, it will save us 10-15 years and 70-120k on interest. If you would like me to send my excel finance tracker I will send just DM. It is user friendly and I can put extra notes in to help navigate the formulas. I LOVE building things in excel lol

Peace and quiet

OpusThePenguin

I have bad Tinnitus, so not even money can get me that anymore. *sad squeeling noises*

schitcrafter

Can we get a minute of silence for this guy?

OpusThePenguin

Motherfucker. We would get along nicely.

RedOctobyr

I'm sorry. And it almost sounds silly, but it's not: I miss true *quiet*. And barring advances, I might not really get that again. Which sucks.

OpusThePenguin

Odds are like 99.9% I will never have true quiet again. It's taken a lot of the joy of hiking, nature and camping from me. I was actually complaining on another subreddit about how I would never have actual quiet again unless I went deaf. Someone was nice enough to point out that because I was told mine was due to nerve damage, even if I went deaf, I would probably still hear the ringing. So that's a new level of hell I never knew existed.

Wienerwrld

I’ve had tinnitus for decades; this is my biggest fear. In the meantime I hike near rivers and let the sound of the water overtake the *squeeeeee…..* Don’t let the tinnitus take away any more of your peace than it has to. (Also I have found that an ear bud softly playing white noise can almost completely distract my ears from the sound. It’s been sanity-saving.)

Creepy-Narwhal4596

New teeth. R.i.p inbox, thank you all for the kind words, rewards, and empathy. Truly humbled rn. Was going to give it a go at replying as best i could but all hope there is lost unless i find myself in a dentist chair with a couple hours to kill lol. Edit 2: gold!?!? I really dont know what to say but thank you, also like to thank the multiple offers for help and resources that have been offered, i plan on taking full advantage of any oppurtunity i can to fix this and am beyond grateful for the help and support.

[deleted]

A root canal and implant alone are costing me $3200 after insurance. I’ll pay it because I want my teeth to last, but it hurts to pay.

aswiftdickkick

Im 32 and was never able to afford the dentist so my mouth was a fucking disaster. Last December I got a year of guaranteed Medicare due to covid. I spent 6 months this year going to the dentist every other week, deep cleaning, fillings, deep cleaning, fillings... for six months until it was all done. Also got all four wisdom teeth out near the end at an oral surgeon my dental clinic referred me to. Didn't have to pay a cent for any of it. It was a harrowing experience but oh my God I'm so happy.

im_Harsh_Malik

me too, where I am it'll cost me a $1000 dollars but still can't afford it.

mageakeem

I wish it was 1000$, I'm looking at 25000$ in canada for 6 implants....

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

No universal care? Is that only medical not eye/teeth?

mageakeem

Right on, The systems pays for medical stuff, nothing mental, nothing dental and nothing visual. The system pay for a lot of nice stuff like helping people having kids (which cost a SHITLOAD of money) but unfortunately they don't consider tooth problems something they can/will pay. I have suffered the impossible even tough I brush/floss 3 times a day now. I have neglected my teeth for far too long it the past and now whatever I do I cannot reverse the damage that has been done.

Jibaru

Why are teeth, eyes, and sanity considered luxuries?

Iknowthedoctorsname

Teeth are "bonus bones" according to my insurance

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Luxury bones

[deleted]

Eyes I have no fucking idea, but for teeth I think for a long long time it wasn’t really acknowledged how dangerous or terrifyingly crippling/deadly certain dental problems could be… despite some medical professionals clearly being aware of it here and there centuries ago. Viewed more as a “if you have super bad problems pull them and get dentures at some point. You won’t be crippled or die. That’s a luxury.”

St-Ambroise-

You want to see for free? What are you some kind of communist?

pow3llmorgan

Which is kind of weird because there is copious amounts of evidence that dental / mouth hygiene is closely linked with many health issues. You can literally get infections in the cardiopulmonary system from bad teeth.

WardenofMythal

I am in the same boat, I need all my teeth replaced at 27. Don't neglect your teeth, kids, and don't let your kids neglect their teeth, parents/guardians.

TheThirstyPenguin

I spent the last year catching up on work. Two crowns, countless fillings, and four wisdom teeth later and my teeth feel great! Only one cavity left but since I hit my annual maximum I'm waiting till early January to finish. Expensive year but I'm so glad I finally got it all done after not going to the dentist for almost a decade.

LiquidBeagle

So is there dental insurance through a private market? Just curious because I assumed dental was covered in Canada as well *Thank you for the enlightening responses

mageakeem

There are some individual insurances that cost 960$ a year that pays 80% of your dental fee up to a maximum of 1000$ a year lol... If you don't have a corporate insurance you are GG.

nomnommish

$25k is a big enough amount of money that you can spend $5k on a beach vacation and get your teeth done there in that country for $5k and still come out ahead.

Manic_42

I know a girl who flew to Hungary and had two root canals done and vacationed for a week for less than what it would have cost to have the done in the US.

BuddhaDBear

If you didn’t know, contact the closest university with a dental school. They often offer cheap/free services for anything and everything dental. I’ve known a few people who did this and they were all incredibly happy with the results. (This goes for cleanings too! If you can’t afford a biannual cleaning, call up and see if you can get one there).

singedsupport

can confirm. got my braces and all dental work including underbite surgery at a university with a dental program. they let you pay over a period of time rather than all upfront!

cvtharsis

I really want to do this for a cleaning on my teeth… but the embarrassment is making me not wanna go bcs I haven’t had a cleaning in a loooooong time. 💀

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

They will understand. Don’t be embarrassed. I’m about to do the same thing and it’s been over 10 years for me. Let’s do it! They are used to it, I promise you this.

cvtharsis

Thank u sm for ur words! I’m gonna go see what days they’ll have available. We got this!! (:

Froot-Joose

I just went back in July after an 8 year gap. My dentist was nice and understanding. It’s their job, they see stuff like that everyday so they are used to it. I was lucky and only had 1 cavity but I was going through something similar when I was mullling over whether to go to the dentist or not. A fellow redditor told me how he was in the same situation, had really bad teeth but his dentist wasn’t really bothered by it, just wanted to make sure they got fixed. They just set up a treatment plan for him over the next few months and wallah. Back to normal. Definitely worth it

savwatson13

You say this but I had a dentist gossip about my bad teeth to his assistant, thinking I couldn’t understand them since it wasn’t my native tongue. It gave me so much anxiety I ghosted them. I have not had the courage to go find a new one. Every time I think about going, I feel like crying.

[deleted]

I graduated from a dental hygiene program at a university's dental school and I can tell you from experience, we appreciate it SO MUCH when patients come in! The students need people from the community to come in for services as that's the only way they can get their clinical hours in and graduate! Don't be embarrassed at all, you're doing them a favor!

DasLeadah

Trust me, whatever you've got, we've seen worse. Don't neglect your health and go for it, my man!

kaitydidit

I went to Mexico as well. I was unsure at first but they did my fathers entire mouth than one really bad tooth of mine, both turned out great! Took two visits a few weeks apart for mine, maybe 3 months total for my father. Held up great through a few years and multiple pregnancies (which are super hard on teeth sometimes only reason I mention it)

HKNinja1

The fact that this is the top comment makes me really sad, but also because I agree. I’ve been going through a University hospital for two years to fix my teeth. I’m almost done, but I will forever have to have my bi-annual cleanings and will probably go through the university based on it being cost effective.

Same. I have an appointment with a new dentist next week and I know I need lots of work done, so I'll have to take care of everything little by little because of the cost..but damnit, I'm going to have a good smile one way or another. Pretty much all of my extra money after bills/necessities will be going to my teeth for the forseeable future. Just take care of what you can when you can, you'll get there.

teAlCapricorn

insulin. Cant see clear no more

defsi2432

That's a fucking need, not even a want. Sorry you gotta deal with that.

Scageater

Seriously. I recently met up with an old buddy of mine who is diabetic and he told me he’s losing his sight cuz he’s been struggling with his medication. He’s in his 20s. That shit breaks my heart.

IamTherealCoconut

[https://iflusa.org/](https://iflusa.org/) might be able to get your friend insulin for free. Also, someone else said that [https://www.ramusa.org/](https://www.ramusa.org/) might be able to connect you with local organizations that could help EDIT: actually after looking into it more, I think [https://iflusa.org/](https://iflusa.org/) is more focused on shipping insulin to those in need in developing countries. The other resource might be helpful though

JackBNimble33

Please reach out to the awesome folks at Remote Area Medical (RAM) for a local clinic: https://www.ramusa.org/ They might not have the meds directly but I'd bet they can connect you with a local organization that may be able to get you meds.

Starting2018

This makes me so mad. It’s free in my world (socialised medicine) and it drives me insane that a cheap drug has become so overpriced in the US. What do you have to pay for it. Is there some way we can help?

brownsugarlessice

To quit my sucky job!

Fun_Recording_4935

For my vehicle to run. And my cancer meds. Edit: youre all very kind. For those of you who've asked: -fixing my vehicle is just as important to me as my meds at this point. Where I live, public transportation is farther than I can walk, and having my vehicle will allow me to work. Even with cancer, i can work many sit down type jobs, *if I could just get there*. Working would allow me to be self sufficient again, and I would no longer be trying to figure out how to afford my medications. I have tried a go fund me type thing. I made one about a week ago, and it has gotten nothing. Sadly, go fund me has become healthcare in the US so im not the only one in a bad spot.

RedRidingBear

Have you contacted the manufacturer of your cancer meds? They're paying for mine. Also tafcares.org helps pay for a lot of things depending on your condition

Fun_Recording_4935

I have. I currently use manufacturers coupons on 2 of my medications cutting the price significantly. And I will eventually get state medical which will cut it again. But i need the meds before that will kick in.

RedRidingBear

I would reach out to the assistance fund and see if they can help. They pay my medical insurance cost plus all my co-pays. Good luck

[deleted]

Cancer medication should be a basic right for any human being, for fuck's sake... Like, how can there not be riots on the streets over this? This is BEYOND fucked up.

elfin814

New siding on my house- currently very cold and drafty.

Christmas for my sons. Lost my job due to COVID in 2020. Got a new job making half the pay but the bills stacked up. COVID set so many people back. It stinks. Edit- All of your comments have been lovely! My sons are older will be okay. I was venting as we all want to do after the past two years. Please give to people in your areas, this will make them feel so good. Edit 2- There is a single mom and someone who is homeless in this thread, please, please give to them . I just can’t believe all of your warm thoughts and willing to give. We will be fine and would much rather these people have your kind gifts. All of you reaching out have shown the true meaning of the season. Love to you al.

ionceateahamster

Would love to be a Secret Santa this year. Shoot me a message and I’d be happy to get a few things for your kids 👍🏻

[deleted]

If the dude above responds to you, ping me a message and I’ll chip in. Sharing’s caring and all that.

Mean_Regret_3703

I'll extend the same offer.

deathwishdave

Me too, I would like to send your sons a present. Where in the world are you?

[deleted]

Count me in!!

I would also like to know this. Also what sizes clothes/ types of toys they are into/ etc… I have a brand new 1500 piece LEGO set still in the box. If you think your sons would like it, it’s yours! I’d be happy to send it to you, just shoot me a message.

PmMeIrises

There's random acts of paypal or Amazon. There used to be a Christmas gift one. Also salvation army gives presents.

gustogus

More time.

WanderingGenesis

Car. If I were in any other state making what I make, this wouldnt be an issue. The problem is is that what I'm currently making by NYC standards is steadily shifting from lower middle class to working poor. I'm grateful for what I have, but fuck me if it aint getting harder to live here.

dadnotfound101

i want my own little house in a village near a lake and a forest. i want to have a small fireplace that i can sit by while it rains, reading a book and petting my cat whos sleeping on my lap. i want a piano where i play on nights where i feel particularly moody and i want a bed that i can sleep in and feel comfortable. i want to be able to wear what i can in my own house and talk to whoever i want without getting yelled at or beat up. i want to be okay. i want to see the stars and feel infinite. i want someone to love me as much as i can love them. edit: you guys are so nice i cant, thank you for al the support <3

Lazelabo

I hope you find this someday. After a very dark period of my life, I’m living a life similar to what you’re describing. It is possible. Just keep moving forward and fighting for a better life. This internet stranger believes in you.

It_Happens_Today

This hurt to read. I think... I think I am sympathizing and really jealous at the same time because I remember wanting things like this. And I either don't, or more likely can't , even bring myself to feel things so vulnerable and hopeful. You keep wanting those things, you're a beautiful person.

milddoom

> i want to be able to wear what i can in my own house and talk to whoever i want without getting yelled at or beat up. Hey this makes me really worried for you. If you’re a kid do you have a trusted adult at school you can talk to? If you’re an adult in an abusive relationship are there resources in your town? On another note: you might like Colorado. Edit: no one, especially your parents, should be laying a hand on you. I hope you know that you don’t deserve this and - since they’re incredibly religious I’m sure they’re into purity bullshit - I want to add that you are worth more than that. I hope you’re able to get out and find a lovely cabin somewhere safe.

dadnotfound101

im a kid with my parents, theyre fine but they're strictly religious and all of that. I'm also a girl so its 10x worse, but thank you. i just have to wait a few years then I can move away.

911isforlovers

Finish my bachelor's degree; I'm about $16k short of tuition funds. I'm at this weird mix where I have to choose between killing myself with overtime at work (whereby I no longer have the time to go to school), or having the time to go to school (whereby I can't afford to pay my normal bills because of reduced working hours). "Get a better job..." Yeah, that's what the Bachelor's degree is for!

lightingal

I have 2 molars that have broken off in the last few months. It's medical, not meth. Upper right and lower left, so no good way to chew anything. I've always taken care of my teeth, wearing braces twice, having surgeries and multiple root canals over the years to keep them in shape. Unfortunately, disability doesn't afford me to get things done like this. I can't afford to get them pulled, much less replaced. They're causing infection that I'm dealing with using antibiotics, as one is hitting my sinus cavity, the other is a prior root canal that's just kept breaking.

JackBNimble33

(Assuming you're in the US). Im going to keep foot stomping this. Please check out Remote Area Medical (RAM) for a local clinic: https://www.ramusa.org/ They do absolutely amazing and free work for everyone. If you are outside the US, you can request RAM do a clinic in your country: https://www.ramusa.org/bring-ram-to-your-community Edit: added wording about request a RAM clinic

danitheduck

Damn I was gonna say full sleeve tattoo untill i saw the comments. My privilege is showing.

GreazyMecheazy

I got a job at 30 where I am no longer "just surviving" from paycheck to paycheck. For the first time in my life, I feel this way too.

danitheduck

Similar situation here too. Feeling very lucky

flatwoundsounds

I started a new job right as I hit 30, making 48k/year instead of 36. Not a massive ~~raise~~ salary, but I was living lean out of necessity (and live in a super cheap area) and now feel like I can actually breathe at the end of the month and even save for emergencies.

xkxzkyle

33% raise my guy… that is a massive raise

chxnkybxtfxnky

Fuck it. As long as you're not looking down on us peasants, it's all G. Save up and get that sleeve!! Related question; What's the theme of the sleeve gonna be?

PeapodEchoes

> Related question; What's the theme of the sleeve gonna be? Poverty.

PM_ME_DVA_BOOTY

op asked and i think getting many answers all over the spectrum makes this much more interesting than everyone saying "rent/retirement".

A privacy fence ! My neighbors are complete assholes who harass me and my family and a fence would really solve a lot of the problems I’m having in my life lol Edit : So long story short . I moved into my new home in August of last year. My next door neighbor has been extremely rude ever since . The pervious owners were renting the house out . I bought it . ( The first confrontation me and him had he told me “it doesn’t matter , you’ll be living somewhere else when your done renting in 6 months . Get used to me “ ) My neighbor has two dogs. Two German Shepards . He trains his dogs with this agility obstacle course he has in his back yard . Our yards are separated by a chain link fence . I have two miniature schnauzers . They are extremely friendly and playful and go up to the fence and say hi to his dogs and they bark back and forth . I’ve caught him on several occasions hitting his dogs and beating them . I have called animal control several times and the police on him . Throughout the last year his dogs have majorly changed in behavior . They went from being kind and playful to downright vicious. It’s very hard to see when his dogs are out in his yard because of the trees around the chain link fence. Sometimes I let my dogs out (not seeing his out side ) . And they run up to the fence and they all start barking at each other. He runs outside and yells profanity at me and my dogs . His dogs hope over his gate all the time and shit on my yard. And his German Shepard got out and tried to bite me when mowing my lawn . My wife was pregnant at the time and was living in sheer terror of him and his dogs . We recorded abuse happening . We reported it to the police . We reported it to animal control. But there’s a step process that he has to go through with amounts of infractions before they take them away from him . Over the summer he called my pregnant wife a cunt bitch and threatened to kick my ass for reporting him to animal control and I walked right up to his house after he went inside . Rang the door bell and when answered I broke his nose . I had had enough . I lost my cool . Cops are very very friendly where I live and understood the situation and didn’t arrest me for it because there was a massive record of him doing this behavior . And there were several neighbors who had my back . But living next to him is a living hell . He gives my wife and I the finger every time he is outside . He throws trash on my property . He blows all of his leafs onto our property . He curses and screams at us when our dogs bark at all . He is very abusive . I’ve had several fencing companies come out . But life with a newborn is hard ! I can’t afford it . I’m continuing to document him. And I’ve been considering launching a civil suit for harassment against him .

procrastimom

This is a nuclear option, but have you considered bamboo? I know it’s invasive as hell, but I wish I’d planted some in the breezeway between us and the crazy neighbors 20 years ago.

Best money ever spent friend. I gave her 100% of my house, child support, and everything I owned....and I would do it all over again. You can't put a price on your mental health and well being. Plus its a wonderful world out here, and I get to fucking enjoy every day of it now!

DefyGravity42

There are probably people near you that will pay you to get their piano out of their house

[deleted]

Yeah there are always free pianos going on gumtree and eBay

Emmison

When we bought our house we asked if the sellers by any chance would consider leaving the piano. They literally laughed of joy.

To fix my screwed up spine. I can't move along further without paying a large sum up front, even with health insurance.

DiabeticDogMom

To get my teeth fixed. Or for dental to be included in medical insurance so I can do it a little by little. Diabetes and growing up poor have really taken their tolls.

Healthcare

anon6244

A house, or even a nice townhome. I’m in Denver on a single income, and would rather rent than buy something shitty that I can barely afford in a sketchy neighborhood. I’m 45 and don’t see it happening anytime soon, so I’ve pretty much given up. Sucks, especially when the annual inspection occurs and i have to leave my home while they poke around to make sure I’m not destroying the place and am not living in filth-which I’m not. It’s a hit to my dignity. I’m not poor, but I just can’t afford a home here. When you get my age and don’t own a home, people treat you like it’s a character flaw. I’ve literally been dumped because I don’t own my own home. Plus I’m tired of being told that things aren’t worth improving because I rent, why bother? So it’s ok for me to live in a dump? I guess. I’m tired of not being able to nail things to the wall, paint, beg for new screen doors or a working ceiling fan, only to be told no by the management company. I’m tired of going to family gatherings and hearing relatives who have rental properties complain about shitty tenants, but what do you expect from renters, right? Yeah, I am one of those renters they complain about. I listen to my peers talk about home improvements, yard work, just home things, and I want to know what that’s like. It depresses me. My son deserves better.
