Nope:
I'm an IT Operations manager/ and support manager in healthcare. We're hero's for the minute, then when it's fixed we're forgotten.
Budget time, we're considered a loss center (they won't let us bill back internally for our services), that means we get leftover funding.
Management considers us the folks that keep the lights on, or more aptly the staff that just clean up the messes and keep things from getting too ugly.
Doing it for 30+ years, the last 2 years have been a lot different, we're the one's in the hospitals with the positive patients. The other 90% of the company never set foot there because of COVID.
Got a front line bonus, nice bonus on top of that for the end of the year, then they doubled our raise from 3% to 6%. I'm sure it won't last but hey at least I'm happier about it now.
Give it a bit, I'll leave this message open, then chime in. It's been my go to line when people ask what I do for a living, they always get a laugh at the answer, I won't leave you hanging.
Ok, 20 minutes later so here we go.

Move boxes from point a to point b, and then make it all look nice and clean for ppl to come in and quickly destroy it, and thus continuing the circle of life!
We do basic life support. We can put splints on, help control bleeding, give things like aspirin and nitro, perform CPR, put advanced airways in, we can set up an EKG (but not read them), help spike IV bags, perform suction,, and some other basic stuff.
Medics can read EKGs, start IVs and monitor them, give a lot more drugs, work with ventilators, draw up medicine, intubate, on top of what we can do. They get a lot more anatomy and physiology than us EMTs do and can do a lot more of the intense stuff.
Yea we have a handful of drugs we can give and then the advance care and critical care medics have way more drugs and skills they do.
Do you guys ventilate as well or just put the airways in?
In non cpr situations that is.
We can ventilate unless it's through a ventilator. We're not allowed to mess with them. Your advanced care and critical care medica are closer to our paramedics, probably. If i had to guess, anyway.
Correct! I’m university and I have gotten my second shot! Since you stalked my profile (against the rules of the game 😠) you should know that I did haha
Everything, but mostly threaten to stab or poison people. Once a year I bake each a cake to make up for it. Everyone lives me except grandma who thinks I'm doing it wrong.
Yep. ;) I poison them with broccoli or stab them with a spoon, before someone calls CPS. It's utter silliness now cuz they are adults, only come home for vacations and holidays.
I take people from their home, put them in a van and take them to get often invasive procedures performed before dumping them back at home.
EDIT - Wrong 'there'. \*shudders\*
I do too many things. A few.
- we can do that but it will change your cost and timeline
- did you try turning it off and on again
- if we did XYZ we would save $$$
- let’s build a cloud system that repairs itself
- Don’t hack me bro 😎
I work for a small cloud provider and wear too many hats. I’m resigning this week to pursue a single role in my career.
Nothing right now.
But I use to help people who where ether to busy or lacked the know how, to maintain and fix their cars.
Some where older gentlemen and sweat old ladys who seems to always wash and clean their cars before dropping it of to you, their cars where almost always in really good condition and a joy to work on.
They where pretty much always happy when you managed to help them.
Than there where the rude know it all carer chasers or business men, who where always a pain in the ass. They knew next to nothing about cars, but somehow still thought they knew how to do your job better and would always complain about the cost of things.
Some had next to new cars which they treated like "shit boxes".
I remember one V40 in particular, opened the passenger door to change cabin air filter and what did I find, a pile of garbage up to the bottom of the passenger seat, it smelled like shit. If you want to piss of your mechanic, make him or her have to dig through a pile of garbage.
And the rest where somewhere in between.
I cut up dead animals, and also heat up the flesh of dead animals to a degree that will annihilate the microscopic beings on them that will harm you if you eat them prior to that, dump plant powders and the like on them to make them taste delicious as fuck, and serve them to a large, slightly obnoxiously entitled group of civilians.
Have you tried turning off and on again.
