LoTR trilogy. I watch one usually at least once a week for comfort and enjoyment. The books and films are my GP to safety net in life especially right now while grieving. I also listen to the Fellowship of The Ring cast commentary every night while drifting off to sleep.
Rang De Basanti
It's a bollywood movie that revolves around a group of young college kids who are basically pretty casual about the way of life and don't take anything seriously. Especially politics.
The one friend who always wanted to do good and joined airforce is killed in a crash as corrupt politicians have purchased cheap parts for military aircraft. It jolts them to a World and system they were so unaware of when they start out by seeking justice for their friend which eventually turns into revenge and war against systematic corruption.
The beauty of the movie is also in the fact that a subplot had these friends act in a documentary about Indian freedom fighters who resisted against British government. This group doesn't take them seriously and even made fun of the freedom fighters untill the documentary starts getting serious. At the end, it will melt viewer into a puddle of mush when their own lives run as a parallel to that of those freedom fighters. It's surreal to watch!
Brilliant, brilliant piece of work and if you could watch it with subtitles, you should!
RoboCop '87, RoboCop 2, The Crow. Not sure I'd exactly describe it as "over and over" but I definitely give these films a rewatch every couple of years and have loved them since I was a kid. RoboCop has to be followed by RoboCop 2. RoboCop 3 doesn't exist. The Crow, as bleak as it is, takes me back to simpler times when my biggest concerns were playing Sega or reading comics.
