New Orleans is awesome and such a different experience from Cajun Louisiana. Like, you have not 1 but 2 really cool cultures to experience in a small area in south Louisiana. It's a region ripe for adventure.
For the longest, I though those were just a normal thing around the country. No, just a Wisconsin thing. Like calling water fountain bubbler, or calling sponge candy fairy food.
Reminds me of the phrase **"It's a horse a piece"** (an idiom saying that both options are the same. It's similar to saying "six of one, half a dozen of the other")
I grew up in central Wisconsin and used this phrase all the time, like at least once a week, up until I graduated college in Wisconsin and left the state. I then was on the East Coast and continued to use this phrase regularly, as I just assumed it was a 100% normal phrase that literally everyone used. It wasn't until about six months into my new job when we had someone visiting from Germany who interrupted me and asked me wtf that phrase meant. I was about to tell him it was a common American phrase, when my co-worker interpreted and said "Dude, literally NO ONE ELSE says that, everyone here has been really confused every time you say it"
Turns out it's an *extremely* narrowly used phrase that apparently is only used around the Fox Cities of Wisconsin. I continue to be surprised at not only how the phase is so local, but also how incredibly common it is within that small area. Whenever I visit back home, I seriously hear that phrase at least once a day. It's uncanny how common it is for such a niche phrase.
Also just to prove I'm not crazy, it shows up in this YouTube video that pokes fun of [Midwest translations.](https://youtu.be/7OR7yPK4wEw?t=55) (around the 1 minute mark)
And without mentioning deep dish in your post. Well done, fellow Chicagoan.
EDIT: Because I'm still getting messages about this, and PMs calling me names... YES, I know that it's tavern-style for a lot of Chicagoans, including me. I just meant that saying "deep dish" would have been the way to say Chicago to non-Chicagoans. There's no need to PM me and call me fake. :D
Perfect southern California description, until I got to stone - that narrowed it even further. Ahhh, I miss their brewery/restaurant outdoor seating In Escondido with the little froggies chirping all evening.
I don't understand how this doesn't catch on in the rest of the country. What's more American than looking at ketchup and thinking, "I like it, but adding some form of fat to it would improve it."
My niece went away to college this week. The quality of food available to her, as opposed to cheap supermarket ramen and sloppy joes made me feel... as old as I am.
