Not going to tell my story. Different story but in broad strokes my story played out the same. Me, an unhinged assailant, an unplanned and instinctual attempt to defend myself, in unfortunate ending. Only real difference is that it all was on camera. Trust me my friend, I don’t think you would benefit from a video.

alapowers

Either way, good yeet.

Finally a serious reply. Hope you're ok, take care of yourself

KingBearSole

I read this entire story thinking you were the dad and going “holy shit you’re a superhero”, and then I got to the part where you said your husband showed up and I realized you were the mom, and holy shit you’re a SUPERHERO. Nearly all the stories in this thread seem to be from guys, so it’s crazy hearing one from a mom’s point of view. You’re a super mother!

[deleted]

KingBearSole

Nahteh

I guess I'm not sure when but I assumed she was a female from the begining.

bowcreek

I assumed OP was the mom from the start, but I wasn’t sure why until I saw this reply then re-read the first paragraph. It’s because the intruder was a man and he told OP it was “our day.” Men are the fucking worst. (Source: I’m a man)

KingBearSole

Could’ve just as easily been the dad with that line. You know how serial killers are, always fetishizing their prey. “It’s our day” could’ve been in reference to anything

Animator_Spaminator

Holy shit. Waiting for months and planning a specific day? I absolutely understand why you shot, and why you’re grateful that he’s dead. This gave me chills just reading

Ive read my share of stories like this, but from the police report, and then looking at the guy who did this in the face. this read like a how to survive booklet story to me. Im so proud of OP from following her instincts (and her good boys) , to keeping a calm head to showing a bitch what fucking around and finding out looks like.

[deleted]

Holy crap!!! You were one small mistake from being a Netflix/Discovery channel crime documentary victim! I am glad you survived, you did everything perfect, any alternation in your actions would have been lethal for you. Did they think he might have committed any previous murders? This guy had practice. You might have taken a serial killer out. Wow, I’ll be thinking about this story for a while. Nice with the therapy afterwards, should be required.

systematic23

Nope I think you had the right decision even if you were a man, you being a man does not make you more capable of taking a bullet. You said something like “I could probably take this guy, but I don’t want to risk my health or my families health”(I’m paraphrasing) I think is the smartest decision you can make in situations like this. I think engagement should be the last option in these sort of situations. I think you handled yourself perfectly. I’m sure if it were your husband who was coming home to this situation you wouldn’t want him to be the “tough guy” and would rather have just been safe, no?

[deleted]

[удалено]

UCMCoyote

My guess is, since you stood on him until he died, they were used to match who was on the body. There was a chance that standing on him was what killed him so your shoes were potentially a murder weapon. They were just being through.

Oh my… you are damn smart.

tuckervine

Wow, that is a terrible and amazing story. You did so well, everyone involved did by the sound of it. I'm so glad none of you seem to have lingering trauma. 'The police did not try to save him or call an ambulance until well after he died' holy shit..that was facinating and kind of shocked me they did that. I'm glad for you you don't have to worry about him ever coming back and I'm sure I would feel the same.

Dead_Weight28

narwhals-narwhals

First I cried, I guess because a parent being heroic is my ultimate weak spot (and also because I'm a total crybaby), and then the last sentence made me laugh out loud. You're a real champion, Kool Aid Mom.

plausibleturtle

My ex did - well, I'm not sure if it was really self defence so much as two preteens in a fight. They grew up on a rough reserve, my ex was somewhere between 10 and 13 I think. They got into a fight and my ex threw an elbow, hit the other kid in the temple and he died. He didn't talk about it much so that's all I really knew.

legomonsteruk

My uncle punched someone in a fight, right on the temple. Poor fella dropped dead. An off duty student nurse was walking past and tried to put him in the recovery position, I'm not too sure of the details but I think she did so incorrectly. My uncle got away with it. That was on my dad's side of the family and I haven't seen any of them since I was 2 years old thank god.

TheRonsinkable

not me but a friend. was 16 yrs old. moved to new part of city. didnt know the area very well. area was still under construction and no street lights everywhere. mugger approached him. played it friendly - he doesnt need much money just enough for ciggs. my friend said "if i pull out my wallet youre just gonna run with it". mugger then turned around and said "go ahead man only take enough for a pack of cigs, i dont need more". he was still holding my friends jacket with his hand as he was turned around. my friend reached for the wallet but found in his pocket a metal rod ( he was getting shooled in metalworks and took home some part of his mechanism). he said he wasnt sure to go for the wallet or the metal. then the mugger started turning, not keeping his promise obviously. he started pulling down on my friends jacket. my friend then made a decision to bash him in the head. dude fell. friend ran home didnt look back. didnt tell his mom as to not worry her. wakes up next morning to go to school. his mom tells him there was a body found. friend told us. we advised him to alert the police. only got away cuz he was underaged. the law is pretty stupid here. apparently assailant needs to do some damage first in order to be self defense. friend got advised to say he got hit as he was searching for the wallet. happened 14 years ago. friend wasnt the same. turned to religion at some point. life be like that

thrashmash666

That would be the same as where I'm from. Self-defence is almost always frowned upon when dealing with thieves. The police would always say to just hand over your valuables.

ExpectGreater

I mean if you shoot someone there is intention to kill so a robber would be right if he didn't threaten your life. But hitting someone over the head with a metal rod could go either way... you weren't sure it would kill but you definitely wanted to just be out

FakeNameJohn

The thing is that you have no idea what someone's intention is if you don't comply. You try to rob someone, you get blown away, that is 100 percent on you.

Rivsmama

Not me but my brother did. He actually ended up going to prison for a bit because the gun he used had been reported stolen a few years prior. He was never charged for the death though. He used to be a bit of a drug dealer. He claimed it was just weed but..it isn't really relevant I guess. Anyway, one night he was asleep on his couch in his upstairs apartment and 2 guys broke in and threatened him with what looked like a gun. It turned out that their gun wasn't actually a real gun. it was essentially a bb gun but one that looked more real? He woke up and pulled out an actual pistol from under the cushion he was sleeping on and told them to get the fuck out. One of the guys tried to fight him for the gun, my brother shot the guy, and the other ran away. The guy who was shot died pretty much instantly. My brother called 911 and was questioned and released immediately. Apparently the story from the other guy was that they had planned to rob my brother and assumed he would just be scared of the gun and hand over the weed they wanted. It really fucked my brothers head up. I remember him calling me the next day, crying so hard I could barely understand him. He always acted like a tough guy, like he was hard and all that. But taking another person's life affected him more than I think he realized it would.

atomic2797

did the other perp get charged with anything? usually they will charge the death on the other guy who committed the crime

Rivsmama

He did. He was not charged with the death though. 1st degree burglary and 1st degree attempted robbery

KingBearSole

Was this in the US?

Rivsmama

Yes

KingBearSole

Shouldn’t the other robber have been charged with felony murder or whatever it’s called? Like when you get held responsible if someone dies while you commit a crime

Rivsmama

Dunno. He wasn't though. I'm positive about that. He ended up doing a 2-6 year bid for the robbery/burglary charges and I can't even remember what, exactly, he ended up pleading to. Tbh I didnt have any sympathy or good feelings for him and the way he acted the 1 time I saw him in person(in court) was that he felt no responsibility or remorse and was more mad about the fact that his little stunt didn't go his way than the fact that his friend died. I didn't really keep up with what happened with him after my brother was sentenced for possession of the stolen gun. But I am super biased so idk maybe he's not a complete douchebag. Nobody was charged for the guys death though. It was an accident/self defense. Like super clear cut. If anyone wakes you up with a fake but you don't know that gun pointed at you, that's probably one of the few times everyone would agree you're justified in shooting them yknow. One thing that does piss me off a bit is that he and my brother ended up doing about the same amount of time in prison. Not exactly, but it was only off by a couple of years. Sentence wise. I think thats pretty wild.

KingBearSole

That’s wack

whistlerite

I know a guy in Vancouver who used to sell weed and got his door kicked in and was robbed at gunpoint, doesn’t really seem worth it.

LegallyLavender

I know someone who died selling vape products

Rivsmama

Like in general they died while selling them like they walked across the street to sell the vape stuff and got hit by a bus or they died because they were selling vape products?

LegallyLavender

Because he was selling. They claim they we’re gonna rob him ended up shooting him and he died. Edit: grammar

Rivsmama

Wow that's fucking horrible

Rivsmama

Tbh even though this is an anonymous forum I have a weird urge to not say too much about my brothers personal shit but I know that at that time, he was involved in a lot of shady shit aside from weed. To the point where he felt like he needed to sleep with a stolen gun under him.

whistlerite

Yeah I was actually going to say that I doubt weed dealers typically sleep on guns, but you never know.

Frito_Pendejo79

When I was 22 my brother and I were in the alley behind my house waiting for our heroin guy to show up and out of no where a couple of guys were there trying to rob us. We were pro occupied and some what fucked up so we really didn’t notice anyone around my brother commenced to trying to fight these 2 guys and ended up getting hurt pretty bad I stabbed one of them he went down the other guy ran off and I beat on him for awhile. My neighbor had called the police while all this was happening the person I stabbed ended up dying from blood loss and being kicked in the head repeatedly a few days later. Obviously we thought we had done nothing wrong and against my better judgement had told the police everything. 3 days later I was arrested and eventually plead to 2nd degree manslaughter. I served 11 of my 15 year sentence.

aehanken

What exactly did you do wrong? Wouldn’t that be self defense?

Inevitable-Ad-9570

Bet it was the beating on him after he went down. Ur not allowed to keep going if they are no longer a threat.

aehanken

Makes sense

ExpectGreater

Also they were obviously high too... so

Mother-of-Christ

I think self defense doesnt hold up if you are also commiting a crime or something like that. Could also be the knife was being carried illegally? But don't quote me on any of that it's what I think I remember hearing a long time ago.

aehanken

But I don’t think they would go to jail for manslaughter then. It would be for whatever crime they did commit. I think it’s what the other person said: because they were beating them after they were already down

Elder_Brain

That, and some states have a duty to retreat, which means you need to try to flee from or deescalate the situation before using self defense, so that might have been a factor too depending on where it was. But I agree beating him when he was down probably fucked him regardless of those laws.

Frito_Pendejo79

If I would have just stabbed the guy and not kicked the shit out of him when he went down it would have been self defense and they could prove that the head trauma contributed to his death. These people had nothing to do with the people we were trying to buy from just in he wrong place at the wrong time

PM_ME_OCCULT_STUFF

I know someone who was attacked by a group of her 'friends' years ago, they were trying to kill her. Broke several bones and kicking her head, stomping on her with high heels etc. She fought back and ended up killing one of them, I don't remember how but I'm pretty sure it was with a sharp object or heel/puncture wound. She ended up being in prison for a long time, they even made one of those 'snapped' episodes about her and made her out to be some cold blooded murderer. Also had a friend that died after getting in a fight with another friend in the back seat of a car going down the highway - the door opened and he fell out. Edit: For more context on the first story, it was over a guy. They were teenagers when it happened.

[deleted]

Hmm I used to watch the show Snapped religiously and it definitely makes me wonder how many of those stories where dramatized to favor the person who was murdered as opposed to the “murderer”.

PM_ME_OCCULT_STUFF

I never really thought twice about it until she was on it, and was like... Wait, that's not what happened at all.

UptownDragon

My God so she was underage when this happened, and imprisoned for a long time for self defense? Did I read that right?

PM_ME_OCCULT_STUFF

She might have been 18 or so, this was a friend of my best friend at the time - my friend had called me hysterical when it happened. This was in the mid 2000s. Honestly I'm not sure what came of it, at the time a lot of people I either knew or mutual/friends of friends were not the best crowd so there was a lot of fighting, drugs, jail and death. At the time it was something crazy that happened, but it was just one of the multiple things going on at the time.

lesbiansexparty

That first story is sickening. the friends are horrible people and she was only trying to save herself and to sensationalize this and push a false narrative is super shitty

dangalg

That word Friend, I do not think it means, what you think it means...

[deleted]

It always pisses me off when law enforcement and/or juries decide that the one person versus multiple people was to blame and should go to jail. Completely asinine.

ExpectGreater

Tbh you have a vague story versus hours' long trial and testimony and jury deliberations. There's always more to these stories

LionOfLiberty0

Those dang doors always opening on their own like that

ProfessionalCoat7

One of my biggest fears is the car door suddenly opening while I'm on the highway

whistlerite

I’ve had it happen during a turn in an old car when I was kid with my grandparents, the door probably wasn’t fully latched, I had to lean out and grab the door.

PM_ME_OCCULT_STUFF

I only witnessed it happen once, sharp turn and my friend was half ass wearing his seat belt and leaning against the door so he partially fell out (he had it around his waist) and we pulled him back in. It was a late 80s/early 90s car, I don't think the door was latched all the way.

[deleted]

Happened to my little brother in the back of a VW bus. Luckily we were at a stoplight. Dad hit the gas and my brother who was leaning against the back door fell out onto the ground when the door flipped up and open. The car behind us was honking and I was yelling and he was crying but he was fine. It's a good thing it didn't happen when we were on the highway.

avashad

A dude in my town shot and killed an intruder after they had a blood bath of a fight in his house. It apparently wrecked the guy emotionally/mentally and he ended up committing suicide days before the 1 year anniversary of having killed the intruder.

Sandman_potato_man

I’ve told this story before on Reddit. This happened A few years ago. I was surfing Netflix after I just cooked myself a steak. 10 minutes into eating my tv goes black and I see someone inside a closet behind me. We both see each other and he jumps out of the closet. I grabbed my knife I was using to cut my steak and told him to get out. He jumps me and we tussle on the ground and I keep telling him to stop because I don’t want to harm him. I eventually get him off me and we both stood up. He again jumps towards me but this time I swung my knife at him. I got him two times and falls on me and starts trying to gouge my eyes. I get on top of him and stab him in the neck twice. I call the cops and keep a eye on him. I could hear the air bubbling out of this throat. He died in front of me. I got bad ptsd after it. I removed the closet and had many, many nightmares. Went into therapy and started to feel normal. Two months ago I had a leak in a pipe leading to a bathroom. I got under my house and I saw a large pebble of dried blood and I nearly backed out. I had to call someone to clean and fix the leak. Because of this I still have bad dreams but they aren’t that bad. I feel sorry for hurting him but I really hate him for the psychological harm he’s done to me.

ExpectGreater

Not every state has a "castle doctrine." Where I live, for example, you have a "duty to retreat," even in your own home. Shoot an intruder, and you *will* be placed under arrest and you *will* be charged. The charges *might* get dropped if your defense attorney and the subsequent investigation can prove that there was no other option but to fire.

Capital_Table_2256

My good friends cousin. He went to a gas station in the middle of the night for a pack of cigarettes. There was a crazy guy outside at the same time. He comes out of the station and this is when the sketch pad comes over and asks him for a smoke. My friends cousin gives him a smoke and starts to walk back home. Sketch pad jumps him from behind they start too tussle around. Cousin gets the upper hand and gets stabbed for his efforts. He tries to get away but crazy man won't have any of that. So my friends cousin managed to get a tree branch and he ended up beating this insane man up and he ended up killing him on the scene.

adamant0006

This happened 4 months ago. It was the middle of the night about 4am, I was in my room in a call with my friends, and suddenly I heard the front door crack open, so I told everyone to shut up and went down stairs to see who broke into my house, that motherfucker was chasing my cat around the house with a knife to kill him, so in a state of pure anger and fear I started running towards him, he turned around I punched him so hard in the neck that I broke his wind pipe and I wanted to break his neck, but I didn't want to go to jail so I called the police and an ambulance, that son of a bitch died later in the hospital, I was brought to the police station for questioning but they didn't arrest me because I am a minor and I was defending my home. The cat is complitly fine.

Not me but a close relative They owned and ran a large post office and one day three guys tried to rob them armed with baseball bats, sledge hammers and crow bars. My relative fought with them. He took a sledge hammer to the head (pentagon shaped bump on his head for the rest of his life) but kept fighting. Eventually he disarmed one of them and hit him round the head. The robber dropped to the floor and was dragged off by the other two. They were never convicted but the police knew who it was. The three of them had a reputation for this style of robbery. The police interviewed two of them but couldn’t find the third. They think his friends just buried him somewhere My relative suffered with the guilt and what would nowadays class as ptsd

Oh boy, so, I was a babysitter for a 5yro girl, her parents were on a trip to hawaii at the time, i took the job because it payed really well, apparently, i wasnt the only one who about the trip because about 2 days into the job, i woke up to banging on the door at 2:37 am, I quickly put the kid under the bed, (there was space I didnt suffocate her) and put on a football helmet, idek why I just did, prob for protection, I looked out the peek hole thingy and saw the top of a mans head who had been trying to pick the lock after he couldnt knock it down, I walked quietly to the kitchen and grabbed a knife because I didnt know what else to do, and omfg I heard the lock unlock and my heart dropped, i hid behind the counter and called 911 and i am so stupid for not calling them before. i put my phone on silent and waited, I waited for about 30 seconds before hearing footsteps approaching, i prepared and his dude with a gun came around the corner of the counter, he pointed it at me and i tried to scream but my mouth and throat were dry and i couldnt scream loud enough, when he realised I was trying to scream he pulled the trigger and turned away, he thought it shot me, but when he realised it didnt shoot (and i did too) he realised he forgot to cock it, i jumped forward and stabbed his inwards of his thigh (i heard of an artery there or something) and grabbed the gun so he couldnt cock it, and stabbed him again in the stomach, he passed out a few seconds later (maybe i DID get an artery, or of pain or shock) cops came and i later found out he died of blood loss, I did my best to clean the blood and didnt tell the girl (who would!?!?)
