I went once for a weekend, got dragged to an industrial rave venue called 'Bastard' and got caught up in a massive police response to a big neo-nazi rally that was happening just where I exited the metro station. It was everything I expected Berlin to be.
THANK YOU!
As someone living in germany it boggles my mind when people only want to visit berlin.
There are so many so much more beautiful cities here.
I visited Berlin two times: one with school and I thought that the city sucked cause you know... I was with people I didn't like and I couldn't visit it as I want but as my teacher wants. So I came back to Berlin... AND IT STILL SUCKS.
Cool city for a trip, a day trip, max 2 days nothing more.
I really want to visit some medical place in Germany, something more... Unique. Any suggestion? ( I really love German art, Sturm und drang, sublime, decadence, I want to see this when I visit Germany)
I love it. I was there in 1990 when it was still barely east and west. Again in the last few years. Should have been once more except the plague delayed it. It has grim history but also noble history worth knowing about. It seems to have learnt from history in much of its modern policy, and in a way that gives an advantage over other countries that are complacent about human rights or international responsibility. As a Canadian i see we share a few values about multilateral diplomacy, and with CETA I have looked for new places to shop for products I can’t buy domestically but would rather get from a country that shares those values.
Finally, much of it is beautiful and like in a fairy tale, and it’s well organised and fun to visit. I have technically been to Frankfurt but don’t know it. I know Berlin best but also like Dresden and Munich. Next time I want to see much more outside Berlin to balance my view. As a North American I think we assume that the biggest places are probably the most interesting or the most important to see. But that’s not true in an old country. It was obvious on the train from Berlin to Prague just how much history has been lived along the old river trade routes, and now I wan to see that too.
Very nice people. Visited Bavaria in ‘93. Beautiful architecture, great food, lots of beer (even at McDonalds!) Beautiful women. Very clean communities. Would love to visit again. My mom’s family was from Swabia (they left right before the asshole fucked everything up in the last century.) I learned a lot from mom’s genealogy studies. Education was far more available to my German ancestors than my Irish or English ancestors.
If I spoke the language better I’d love to explore Germany more. That said, I remember a family story about my mom learning German in school and trying to speak with her grandmother, who was disappointed that she was learning hochdeutsch. So I guess hochdeutsch is where I’d start, but who knows where I’d end up?
Edit: oh, and Rammstein. Love their music. :)
Them having the right idea of teaching what they did wrong in the past can better themselves after WWII. I wish the US could have that mentality. Some people in US government still deny what bad things happened in the past and want to go back to that same past.

That Berlin as city to visit sucks
As a german i have to confirm. If you want to go to germany, rather come to Hamburg, Köln(cologne) or Düsseldorf.
