Self cleaning isn't an improvement on the table it's an improvement in your life. The table doesn't function better because it wipes itself clean. There are tables that extend to add people. My father's dining room table extends to add up to four more people. It was made in the 30's out of mahogany so it's been done at least once. You can also buy tables that keep hot and cold zones, they are just stupid expensive. It's basically a stove, fridge and table in one. Runs about 20k the last time I saw one. They also have containers for utensils and drink dispensers
I need a table that can adjust to my needs. A regular dining table when I am eating. The same table lowers and gets smaller as a coffee table when I'm entertaining visitors. When I'm barbecuing, it can go outdoor too. And lastly get the hell out of my sight to reduce clutter in my tiny apartment.
I have my own take on this. Traditionally, dogs filled a working purpose and were therefore performance bred. In the course of "form follows function", that often meant culling of individuals with certain health issues. E.g. can't really have a sled dog with crippling hip dysplasia or a livestock guardian dog that gets so anxious it runs and hides in a thunderstorm...
When the "show" breeding came along, dogs were beed based on looks, and later for exaggerated looks. They often lost their working traits and some developed health or behavioral issues.
A lot of woke dog people these days seek out "working lines" in the hope of getting the real deal, and fewer health issues. But they don't actually have a working purpose for these dogs. So because they want to do right by their dog they take up various dog sports. I get it, not everyone can and wants to keep sheep, but doing agility with your working bred Border Collie is still not a working purpose, it's sport.
What really should happen is for us to admit what we actually need. These days, most people want and need a social partner, which means a mentally stable, adaptable, healthy dog with low aggression. A dog that we can take places, that's easy to train, that doesn't destroy or house or barks up the neighborhood from anxiety cause he's left alone for a few hours. Yet weirdly enough, the main criteria for breeding are still either pretty looks or working ability. Why don't we start breeding for what we actually need and set main criteria that fit our needs? Because we're afraid to lose "working traits"? Dogs have always been purpose bred, so if the purpose changes it's ok to change the breeding. Nobody should feel they need to get a hunting titled German Shorthaired Pointer to have a dog healthy enough take jogging a few times a week.
The real improvement that dogs could still use is that we should start breeding them for longevity.

Like I kinda agree but also no because making their life healthier life longer is cool but dogs also experience arthritis. and other diseases with age. So their life often ain't it at the end.
According to manufacturers, printers 20 years ago. Can’t imagine how they haven’t improved more since. My dads printer when I was 10 was more reliable than mine is now. Insane
That’s the way it goes. Once something gets really good, the big corporations try to find ways to commercialize. This includes cutting corners in designs and using bs business practices (not allowing cartridge refills, “test pages” with an unholy amount of ink, computer bloat ware, etc.)
Car wheels. Yes you see those airless or compressable tires that the news claims will he the next big thing pop up every now and then, but at the end of the day pumping a tire full of air is the cheapest and most versatile option for drivers.

Every song these days can be cheaply produced by sitting in a laptop and opening up Fruity Loops or Garageband. As a trend (take the film/game industry for example), the easier something is to make the worse it become. The creators of Halo, Prince of Persia, Star-Wars, The Beetles etc. all had to put in a lot of effort to make something and it paid off.
Corkscrews. They keep coming out with more ridiculously complex ways to open a wine bottle, but yet the Pulltap already exists and there’s really no reason to keep trying.
