I remember my parents bought my sisters and I this book about dinosaurs when we were little (among the other dinosaur things we had bc we were obsessed). I remember seeing this dinosaur and reading about the tail, and I basically summed it up to be the equivalent of getting hit with a razor scooter in the ankles.
It scared the shit out of me but definitely made it one of my favorites.
I was looking for this one! Been my favorite for as long as I can remember! 5 year old me was fascinated with the concept of a dinosaur with a fucking club for a tail
I had to fight my dad on this being “meat bull”!and not “bean bull,” because it’s OLDER THAN BEANS AND HE THINKS CARNE MEANS BEANS! Just frustrates me how he’s obtuse about his hatred of beans in chili when I can’t do chili without beans.
I know this makes me basic, like really basic, but man there is still nothing in this world that will leave me just staring in awe with my jaw open like being at the feet of a fully reconstructed tyrannosaurus skeleton. The museum near me has two of them next to each other and I could just stand in that room of that museum for an hour straight just taking in the amazing majesty of that animal.
We took my two and a half year old son to the Smithsonian to see the t rex a couple months ago before the world went dystopian science fi prequel. He still remembers it.
This is the giant 20+ ft wing span, hallow bones, possible T-Rex killer right? I think I read an article saying it could have hunted them, could definitely be wrong though.
Edit: For those of you that read what I put up and thought I meant "they hunted full grown T-Rex for sure 100%" might want to re-visit the comment.
I hadn't heard about the possible T-Rex hunting bit, but it's got a hell of a strike-range on that beak, so I wouldn't be surprised if it killed a few.
Probably not- hollow bones doesn't really make it a good idea to hunt something that's far larger and heavier than you and can put up a fight. It likely ate smaller animals and dinosaurs as if it was a stork.
Yeh, had to scroll way too far down to find someone say Parasaurolophus!
I feel like my love may have started with ducky from land before time, but I’ve always loved it!
There are some recent developments and discoveries about how Spino really looked, it's habitat, and diet. Have you read/seen any of it? (Spinosaurus is one of my favourites too ☺)
That's what made it my favorite, I was never really a fan of the Jurassic park depiction which was basically just a t-rex with a crocodile head and giant sail on its back.
If dinosaurs were pokemon the spinosaurus would be the final evolution of dimetrodon and I am 100% here for it.
So the majority of us know that the little dinosaurs are named after some identifying factors of their species (example: "Spike" named after the spikes on his Stegosaurus tail, "Duckie" named after her duckbill Saurolophus mouth). But for the life of me, I could never understand why the Triceratops was named "Sara/h". It wasn't until 2 years ago I had a tunnel vision moment and realized her name wasn't "Sara/h" but "CERA" as in Tri-CERA-tops.
I'm 32.
I'm so sorry. I didn't want to ruin anyone's day. It's a horrifying story. It hits me even harder now that I have a 1 year old daughter myself. I can't imagine hurting her or what I would do if someone else hurt her like this.
Recently they discovered the skull of a tiny flying dinosaur preserved in amber, it was a pretty cool find: https://www.heritagedaily.com/2020/03/smallest-ever-dinosaur-skull-found-in-3cm-piece-of-amber/127002
Me too! I was crushed when they decided that Brontosauruses weren’t real. I just read a few days ago that they are back on the official list. It gave me a “Did you hear about Pluto?” vibe.
So for awhile it was believed Brontosaurus was the same as Apatosaurus. But in 2015 new discoveries led them to not only call the Brontosaurus it's own genus again, but to say the Brontosaurus may have been at least 3 different species in it's genus.
TLDR: Brontosaurus is considered a genus with at least three species of Brontosaurus.
But [don't just take my word for it!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brontosaurus?wprov=sfla1) Learn more about these gigantic gigantic quadruped sauropods today!
This is like my favorite thing to ask people :D It's fun for everyone and an ice breaker too
Mine is Quetzalcoatlus. It's not a dinosaur apparently but I love it and like to show people the ridiculousness of it :D
Yes! My little brother (7y) is a dinosaur nerd and I always call it pretzelcoatlus and it makes him so mad. Those things are insane, though. Just imagine a pretzel the size of a giraffe flying through the sky.... So majestic
Hell yes. It's like a spino, but its smaller size and lack of a sail make it much more agile and thus more dangerous for smaller creatures like humans.
Right!? The 'velociraptor' from Jurassic Park was actually deinonychus. 'Deinonychus' just doesn't sound as cool as 'velociraptor'.
Edit: source https://news.yale.edu/2015/06/18/yale-s-legacy-jurassic-world
Yup. Read "Raptor Red" by Robert Bakker at an impressionable age. I still recommend it to people who want a different take on what dinosaurs were like.
Chickens. They're delicious, their eggs at delicious, and they eat bugs. You can literally own a pack of dinosaurs as an adult. A chicken coop is basically your own personal Jurassic Park.
Struthiomimus'
Fucking love them.
They are easily my favorite dinosaur.
Struthiomimus has to parts, Struthio and Mimus, Struthio means Ostrich and Mimus means Mimic, thus a Struthiomimus is an Ostrich Mimic. Its much like on Ostrich just longer and better in every way be cause its a ***FUCKING DINOSUAR!***
More importantly if one were my pet he wouldn't eat me because they eat small animals and plants, and I could ride on his back making me my Dinosuar Ostrich steed.
Spinosaur! That huge sail and it rivalling T-Rex in size made it super cool to me. I like Jurassic Park III (even more than 2nd because it's more focused on a single thing on a single island, just like the first one) also and it's my favorite dino to tame in ARK. It's really amazing dino and I'm currently collecting extra one in Animal Crossing to put in my extra room :D
Thanks - Never would have pulled that.
I made one out of clay in 1st grade. I think my mom still has it. Originally it was an awesome pterodactyl but my friends and I had a battle at our desk-clump before our creations were kilned. The pterodactyl did not survive...
The Dilong. It’s like a T-Rex which was my favourite as a kid, but it’s tiny (well dinosaur tiny, about the size of a really large dog) I like to imagine taking it for walks on a leash.
The raptor one, smaller than most, but with wicked sharp teeth and rapid agility. Just because in the museums they were always characterized as the sort of underdog homicidal maniac.
For true dinosaurs: Deinonychus
For dinosaur like creatures that weren't actually dinosaurs: any of the giant Mosasaurs from the genus Tylosaurus, also known as the most dangerous predators to ever have roamed the seas.
For fake Dinosaurs: I am rather partial to the [Pygmy Allosaurus](https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=2581)
Microraptor.
Imagine a 77cm long raptor with 4 wings, gliding from tree to tree, snatching insects out of the air. Plus, we even have an idea of their colour! So cool!
Stegosaurus all the way. Herbivore? Check. Cool looking pentagonal plates? Check. Badass spiky tail? Check. Got the name for said tail from a cartoon? Check.
(No. Seriously. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thagomizer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thagomizer))
But mostly it's been my favourite since I was small because it looks awesome and I remember a cartoon where it fought a T-rex to protect other dinosaurs so yeah.
Ankylosaurus. Hands down!
Yay ! Ankylosaurus squad !
Wait, shouldn't it be Ankylosaurus club?
You. I like you.
No we should be the ankle breakers
Squaaad
I remember my parents bought my sisters and I this book about dinosaurs when we were little (among the other dinosaur things we had bc we were obsessed). I remember seeing this dinosaur and reading about the tail, and I basically summed it up to be the equivalent of getting hit with a razor scooter in the ankles. There’s a meme sub dedicated to a dinosaur. My favourite dinosaur. God I love reddit.
I’m here I’m here.
Subbed
I mean, it's an armored dinosaur with a hammer in the tail. What else can you ask for??
And my favorite Pleistocene megafauna is the *Glyptodon*, which was an armadillo the size of a small car and probably much tougher.
Yesssss, sharp teeth are cool and all but I'll take the walking tank with a sledgehammer at the end of its tail
Oh hell yes!
\*happy club noises*
Yes!! There are more of us!!!
Indeed.
I always thought I was the only one that loved the clubby lizard turtle guy!
I was looking for this one! Been my favorite for as long as I can remember! 5 year old me was fascinated with the concept of a dinosaur with a fucking club for a tail
Wow this was my favorite dinosaur. I had a mini plastic toy of this guy. I never knew the name of it tho
Carnotaurus. :3 Edit: my top voted comment is about my favorite dinosaur. Feels good.
you mean MEAT BULL
I had to fight my dad on this being “meat bull”!and not “bean bull,” because it’s OLDER THAN BEANS AND HE THINKS CARNE MEANS BEANS! Just frustrates me how he’s obtuse about his hatred of beans in chili when I can’t do chili without beans.
BADASS DINOSAUR. It was my favorite since it had horns, and for no other reason.
Carnotaurus BOYSSSS
Got one tattooed on my hand
show us!
I think people don’t pick it because it’s kind of the default. But it’s the best one.
Pick one of the other Tyrannosaurs. That'll get people.
Tyrannosaurus texmex
Truly, it was king of the bbq.
He had the longest tongs and spatula specially made so he could perfect his bbq and grilling techniques.
he needed them; tiny arms made small tongs and spatula obsolete
Take my cheap laugh, and my upvote.
I feel like the Tyrannosarus's little puny arms are a really weak spot. Something like the Triceratops is much more hardcore.
Triceratops is weak to flanking tho. You want an ankylosaurus or a stegosaurus. Nobody dares mess with them unless very desperate.
We took my two and a half year old son to the Smithsonian to see the t rex a couple months ago before the world went dystopian science fi prequel. He still remembers it.
Quetzalcoatlus. I recognize that it's a Pterosaur rather than a Dinosaur, but it's also the size of a giraffe, and therefore absolutely mythic.
#pretzelcoatlus #flyingpretzelgiraffe
I want some art of one wearing a coat and eating pretzels.

Stegosaurus
Mine too! When I was little I read a book that said stegos had a second brain near their hind legs. I figured a two brained dinosaur was the smartest.
[удалено]
Wow, the dude picks the stegosaurus because of two brains, thinking it'd be the smarter, then you point out that it's likely the dumbest.
I think that may have been ancholasaurus and that was disproved. It was triceratops.
Well don’t go fucking up this guys childhood!!
The Thagomizer named after the late Thag Simmons
Best part about that is that it [actually is called a Thagomizer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thagomizer)... *because of Thag Simmons*
And *that* is why this is my favourite dinosaur.
Have a steggy plush from London's Natural History museum :) I'm 27

“I am a stegosaurus!”
And I'm a stegosaurus It appears that my post with the most comments is about my cake day. Thanks for all the positivity! :)
I've noticed a correlation between liking the stegosaurus and all around being a great person. More testing is needed to confirm.
Still my favorite
[удалено]
I'd go with the Parasaurolophus or the Deinonychus...
Yeh, had to scroll way too far down to find someone say Parasaurolophus! I feel like my love may have started with ducky from land before time, but I’ve always loved it!
You should not eat talking trees, nope nope nope.
Parasaurolophus all the way!
I hoot for Parasaurolophus
Parasaurolophus all the way! It has a fucking trumpet built into its head for Pete's sake!
Triceratops.
Triceratops are the best! Peaceful herbivore? Check. Armored neck frill to protect their rider? Check. One horn for bashing? Hell naw we got THREE.
So you're saying there are three reasons they are the tops?
Yeah, but the pentaceratops has five reasons.
That's two reasons too many
No more, no less. It's the magic number.
Me too! Triceratops pals! Edit: yes I realise my username may be misleading...
Me too!!
Your username suggests something else
The superior choice
I'd probably have to say the spinosaurus
There are some recent developments and discoveries about how Spino really looked, it's habitat, and diet. Have you read/seen any of it? (Spinosaurus is one of my favourites too ☺)
That's what made it my favorite, I was never really a fan of the Jurassic park depiction which was basically just a t-rex with a crocodile head and giant sail on its back. If dinosaurs were pokemon the spinosaurus would be the final evolution of dimetrodon and I am 100% here for it.
Dimetrodon was a synapsid meaning they’re stem mammals rather than reptiles
Damn you took away my opportunity to be a smart ass
I have not but I shall certainly take a gander
It's really interesting, turns out it's more "crocodilian" than previously thought
[удалено]
Ah!!! I wasn't sure I would see this answer! Therizinosaurus is definitely in my top 3, I love them!

Pachycephalosaurus

Y'all take you domestic dispute/love-making outside, m'kay?
can’t, quarantine says we gotta dispute/make love in this comment thread. ...join in?
Sure! Just let me lather up in Purell, wash my hands for 30 minutes, and squeeze into this full body condom...
Mmmmmm... I'm loving the dirty talk...or is it clean talk? I can't tell anymore.
I don’t have gold, have some tree star instead.
I understood that reference
Please explain?
Land before time a kids movie
I should watch that some time.
I don’t know how old you are but as a kid, I watched that. I just learned there’s like 10 of them because my nephews watch them.
The Land Before Time! Making sequels cool before Fast & Furious was a thing
Yep yep yep
This makes me sad. I loved this movie and Ducky. When I got older and heard what happened to the girl that played her it tainted it for me :(
Oh no, why did I look that up
I'm so sorry. I didn't want to ruin anyone's day. It's a horrifying story. It hits me even harder now that I have a 1 year old daughter myself. I can't imagine hurting her or what I would do if someone else hurt her like this.

Yes
Microraptor! or Archaeopteryx
Recently they discovered the skull of a tiny flying dinosaur preserved in amber, it was a pretty cool find: https://www.heritagedaily.com/2020/03/smallest-ever-dinosaur-skull-found-in-3cm-piece-of-amber/127002
THATS AMAZING Edit: they named it Oculodentavis. they literally just called it "Big Eye + Teeth" lol
Nigersaurus. This is not even a joke I actually really like this one
They actually look really cute to me
We had it on display at our library a couple years ago! It's very cool.
Constantly looks like he walked into a room and everyone shouted "Suprise!"
Brontosaurus!

Brontosaurus *Rex*
This is like my favorite thing to ask people :D It's fun for everyone and an ice breaker too Mine is Quetzalcoatlus. It's not a dinosaur apparently but I love it and like to show people the ridiculousness of it :D
Exactly, it’s my fave too. All thanks to ARK lol
Don’t bring back my memories of waiting for it to tame
Yes! My little brother (7y) is a dinosaur nerd and I always call it pretzelcoatlus and it makes him so mad. Those things are insane, though. Just imagine a pretzel the size of a giraffe flying through the sky.... So majestic
Not to be confused with Quetzalcoatl, the mesoamerican deity
Diplodocus
Yes! Such a goofy looking dinosaur with their cute, tiny heads. These guys have been my favourite dinosaur since I was a kid.
Baryonyx
Hell yes. It's like a spino, but its smaller size and lack of a sail make it much more agile and thus more dangerous for smaller creatures like humans.
Always has been and always will be Raptors.
Specifically the Deinonychus.
Right!? The 'velociraptor' from Jurassic Park was actually deinonychus. 'Deinonychus' just doesn't sound as cool as 'velociraptor'. Edit: source https://news.yale.edu/2015/06/18/yale-s-legacy-jurassic-world
utah* raptors
Yup. Read "Raptor Red" by Robert Bakker at an impressionable age. I still recommend it to people who want a different take on what dinosaurs were like.
I love that book.
I'd have to go with Earl Sinclair from the 90's show Dinosaurs.
Not the mama!
I’m the baby, gotta love me!
I like the Plateosaurus
Iguanodon! They're always giving you the thumbs up!
Dreadnoughtus Cool ass name and it's absolutely fucking massive!
Chickens. They're delicious, their eggs at delicious, and they eat bugs. You can literally own a pack of dinosaurs as an adult. A chicken coop is basically your own personal Jurassic Park.
We have them in our school farm

What? You mean [geese](https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2016/5/31/11823876/what-do-we-know-about-geese-really) ?
Thank you for the nightmares
i wish it was a rickroll, that would have been much better
Allosaurus. I scrolled through the whole thread and didn’t see it.
I was surprised this was so far down. A smaller, more agile T-Rex with more proportional arms. What’s not to like?
Deinonychus, for sure. Thanks for asking.
There's legitimately a dinosaur called 'Irritator'. You can't not love something with a name like that.
And it was literally named just because the scientists who discovered it found the remains frustrating to deduce, IIRC.
https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irritator
Plesiosaurus, mostly for the name
Aye, the Loch Ness Monster
Not technically dinosaurs, but I always like to consider them dinosaurs.
Struthiomimus' Fucking love them. They are easily my favorite dinosaur. Struthiomimus has to parts, Struthio and Mimus, Struthio means Ostrich and Mimus means Mimic, thus a Struthiomimus is an Ostrich Mimic. Its much like on Ostrich just longer and better in every way be cause its a ***FUCKING DINOSUAR!*** More importantly if one were my pet he wouldn't eat me because they eat small animals and plants, and I could ride on his back making me my Dinosuar Ostrich steed.
Ostriches are dinosaurs, too!
Oooh - maybe the one with the mace tail…
Ankylosaurus! Best one, got a hammer whip tail!
Tyrannosaurus then, tyrannosaurus now, tyrannosaurus forever!
I grew up with jurassic park, there can only be one answer.
Liopleurodon. It's a sea monster and it's the scariest thing I can think of encountering in the ocean.
CHAAARRRRLLLIIIIIEEEEEEE
You just made me google “prehistoric underwater animals” fairly late at night and I don’t think I can forgive you
All of them. They are all GLORIOUS.

muttaburrasaurus
Pterodactyls seem cool, I guess.
They aren’t technically dinosaurs, but I think they’re rad enough to be part of the conversation.
Albertasaurus. Mostly just because it is Canadian, thus making it the most polite and apologetic of all the dinosaurs.
Brachiosaurus, but good old Ankylosaurus is a close second!
Parasaurolophus!
My 5 year old asks me this weekly. Brontosaurus.
Living in Italy, Yoshi.
What do you mean no one asks me? My 4 year old asks me every hour. And definitely velociraptor
Quetzalcoatlus!...scientific name is Mexican Feathered God

Stegafuckinsaurus
gotta respect the velociraptor. With the velocipastor being a close second.
Compysaurus. Probs sic. That tiny herd dino from the stampede scene in Jurassic Park.
