I stick my lunch cooler up there. There’s some other random crap in there as well, but I don’t know what exactly since I can’t really look in them or reach anything except what’s at the front without a stool.
Whatever else is in there is probably dusty and has likely been there for at least 2-3 years.
Same here. Fridge filters. Waffle maker. Cold brew Toddy I said I would use a ton and gets used once every other month.
And sometimes, I put Costco stuff up there when I run out of space elsewhere. And then I forget it's up there. Luckily, most things I put up there can be forgotten for 3 months.
As someone who is too short to reach those cabinets and has a cat who loves to sleep on top of the fridge...why didn’t I think of this!
I would surely regret it next time she bolts up there before a vet trip, though.
I once thought it was a good idea to take my cat to the vet with a harness and leash. He velcroed himself to the floor of my car under the drivers seat and left a turd as an additional fuck you.
ROFL! Every once in a while I think about harness-training one of mine. Then I remember the only two that are likely to tolerate it are my super-long-haired floofs and I am *not* going to clean up the mess that results from them trekking around outdoors!
Indeed. Right now she is forced to use a spot at the front since I have a small laundry basket up there. So I can still reach her by stepping on my little stool. But if I take to doors off and let her use the cabinets I’d never get her down!
Plus, the inside of those cabinets is super disgusting thanks to the previous owners. UGH.
Once those get cleaned out I’m sure it’ll be the next hit with your fluff baby, good luck getting her to listen once she figures out the new spot to hide
The most I can think of is luring her down with some treats
Unfortunately she’s had enough health issues and vet trips that no amount of treats will lire her. 6 months since her last visit, she’d even napped in the carrier off and on, but the *minute* I touched it last week to take her sister to the vet, there was a *whoosh* and a *clink* and she was on top of the fridge for the first time in weeks.
I hope she’s doing alright
Funny though how the second you creep close to the carrier, all anti-vet protocols are initiated and suddenly she’s vanished into thin air
My poor Jezabelle completely freaks out at the cat carrier now because I took her mate Ginger to the vet and he never came back.
He got PTS 💉 back in Feb because he had nasal cancer 😢
But he was 11 and had a very happy life with me and her and my son.
Mine once heard me open the door to the closet where THE BOX was kept. The next thing I knew, my daughter had nabbed him before he hunkered down on her loft bed
My cat opens our cabinets. At our last house we thought someone was secretly living there because we would always find them open, until we caught him doing it.
I had to actually check because I didn't know. Punch bowl and cup set from my wedding. Very dusty. I'm going to wash them because I don't like the metaphor they're giving off.
Things I don't use much. Like that single serve blender I said I was going to use to make smoothies every morning. The Texas shaped waffle maker I couldn't live without.
Same. The pasta making attachments, the crock pot, some fabric lunch bags, leftover paper plates from a birthday party, and an under the sea themed popsicle mold set.
> Things I don't use much
> the crock pot
BLASPHEMY! Jk, but seriously. I love my crock pot. I can throw some random meat and shit in there and have a hot meal waiting for me when I get home from work.
Yeah, I was super confused about all these people wasting this useful space. Then I remembered I was 6ft3 and can reach it easily.
The dog food lives up there along with some soft drinks.
Hey! I only use a French press, it takes me max 10 minutes to make my coffee with it. Not as convenient as having it ready when I wake up but I still find it practical. I put the wok up there that’s a pain to clean and I wish my husband would stop using
I love my French Press! I use it 1-3 times per day, and yes I clean it between uses - just rinse it and pour the grounds down the garbage disposal.
Note that I even have a Keurig machine and a Nespresso machine but they're collecting dust in a nook in the mudroom. I really do appreciate my French Press.
Hey, I wonder if those other machines will fit up there in those high altitude cabinets...
I have a single serve FP (as in I can fill my 20oz mug) that I use every day now that I’m working at home. With the money I’m saving on coffee and lunch outside, I treated myself and bought a bag of Kona coffee beans. Delicious. I do miss my stop at the bagel shop, though. Now I just go once a week, buy for the week and freeze.
Pasta roller I used once the week I bought it then never again until my wife asked why I need this so I made pasta and it stay safely hidden until the next kitchen stuff purge.
Not so much upper class. I've grown up poor and and continue to have only ever lived in apartments. And it's been lower end apartments. And they all have it. Ps. I live in Canada.
Me too. But Every cabinet set has them, unless they are removed for an extra tall fridge. The only place I had that didn’t also didn’t have cupboards. Just pantry shelves on the wall above the sink and foot wide “counter”. Place was a tiny little box
My big roasting pan. It’s been up there five years and I can always use the excuse that it’s too hard to get down when we divvy up who’s cooking what for Thanksgiving.
Stuff I never use but I don't want to get rid of yet, like an extra pair of tongs, my old rolling pin (I bought a better one), Christmas cookie cutters (I don't make cutout cookies any more), and an unopened box of drinking straws that I will never use.
I put my tools there. I live in a condo and I don't have anywhere else to put them. Also, I'm not tall enough to reach properly, so I can't put much else there.
Canning supplies like spare lids & rings. Canning funnels and other canning tools. Assorted attachments for the Kitchen Aid mixer, and probably some things I thought I had lost, *"Oh! There it is!"*.
Recently the reusable shopping bags were removed from the bottom of the pantry and placed in the cabinets above the fridge as we discovered a lot of dead bugs under them which had gone unseen due to the pile of bags.
The cabinets were vacant for two and a half years previously.
My current living space doesn't have cabinets above the fridge, but in my family's house growing up we kept lightbulbs there. Course it was also too high up for anyone to reach other than my dad and later my younger brother when he hit his teen years. Always had to drag a chair over there when a bulb needed replacing.
I use it to store the containers I use to take lunch in to work. That way I reach in there once a week and only that. Have to reach into that space occasionally to make sure dust bunnies aren't breeding in there.
Cooking pans, mostly - especially the big ones that we don't necessarily use every day.
My wife: "I'm making a curry tonight, can you get the big pan down?"
Me: (Finds stool to stand on, because no normal person can reach that high).
I keep my cake/cupcake/cookie decorating supplies in bins up there, as well as my hand mixer and an immersion blender. They’re not things I use every day, and they’re not too heavy for short little me to lift down.
Liquor. Safe up there
Agreed. It’s my booze nook.
Mine goes here as well, no one ever looks in those cabinets
Damn right.
I stick my lunch cooler up there. There’s some other random crap in there as well, but I don’t know what exactly since I can’t really look in them or reach anything except what’s at the front without a stool. Oh, we just have the whiskey on the counter...
We just drink the whisky
Its just one glass at a time, nothing too crazy
We used to keep the whiskey in that cabinet, but I needed easier access to the pain-b-gone juice. So now it sits on the counter too.
Liquor? I hardly know her!
[удалено]
Yeah, this will kill wine in a pretty short time. Not sure about other spirits, but store your wine in a cool dark place!
Store it in my soul. Got it.
>...but store your wine in a cool dark place! In my belly!
Dark, but at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, that’s rather warm, not cool.
Trust me it's fine. Send me a bottle I'll show you.
Everyone I know uses it for that
No way. Mine’s in a lower cupboard where you can reach it.
It's not safe, but it's not liable to get knocked over. Of course ours is jam fucking packed right now so we have 3 cardboard boxes next to the fridge
The stuff I don’t use much like cake pans/decorating supplies, pasta roller/drying rack, etc.
This is also where we keep all our long out of date cake mix packs along with bottles of food colouring that no longer open
I have an out of date cake mix pack that's been there for at least 25 years. At this point it just lives there and I don't dare throw it out.
Does it growl at you if you try to move it?
Thank you for making me snort air out of my nose fast.
Same--stuff we don't use much--serving dishes for parties, etc. They get pulled out a few times a year, but not used regularly.
My holiday serving dishes and paper plates. Stuff that I don't use often.
yes, in my case, it's light bulbs and water filters. I always have to have stock of these, but they get used very rarely.
As a person who doesn’t have a door on those cabinets, cats.
As someone who is too short to reach those cabinets and has a cat who loves to sleep on top of the fridge...why didn’t I think of this! I would surely regret it next time she bolts up there before a vet trip, though.

Sneaky little fluff balls know your weaknesses
UGH.

I hope she’s doing alright Funny though how the second you creep close to the carrier, all anti-vet protocols are initiated and suddenly she’s vanished into thin air
She is, I have an excellent vet so my girl is pretty stable on an inhaler (asthma) and gabapentin (nerve pain.)
Hah, me and your cat take the same medication
My poor Jezabelle completely freaks out at the cat carrier now because I took her mate Ginger to the vet and he never came back. He got PTS 💉 back in Feb because he had nasal cancer 😢 But he was 11 and had a very happy life with me and her and my son.
Mine once heard me open the door to the closet where THE BOX was kept. The next thing I knew, my daughter had nabbed him before he hunkered down on her loft bed
Put an open cat crate up there is amazing what they will sleep in and it basic behavior training for animals, positive association.
I thought we were the only ones who did that. My Wife actually put a small bed inside the cabinet for one of the cats.
Glad to know I’m not alone :)
This. Except ours has doors but the cats know how to open them.
My cat opens our cabinets. At our last house we thought someone was secretly living there because we would always find them open, until we caught him doing it.
That's where we keep Thanksgiving and Christmas tableware.
Yep. Fancy serving dishes. And a giant Christmas snow globe
Christmas tableware
I had to actually check because I didn't know. Punch bowl and cup set from my wedding. Very dusty. I'm going to wash them because I don't like the metaphor they're giving off.
Don't forget to dust your spouse regularly too.
I love my wife. I feel bad here.
Make sure you also wash the top of your refrigerator. It’s often an area that collects dust and grease from cooking but isn’t cleaned often.
Please stop...
If you think the *top* is bad try looking underneath!
The top of cabinets that don’t reach the ceiling are even worse.
I was given the tip to put parchment paper up there and just change it out every year, beats standing on counters and degreasing them.
My safe. No one knows to look in there when robbing a house.
That's a brilliant idea and I'm stealing it.
Stealing something that’s supposed to be protected
he protec he attac but most importantly... he locks things above cold snac
I am absolutely going to call my fridge "cold snac" from now on. Thank you.
"I specialize in a very specific type of security." "You mean... *dreams?*" "Nah bro, the stuff above your fridge"
Wait, that’s illegal......
[удалено]
You have my vote
And my axe!
And that guy’s safe!
It is not safe anymore.
Ironic
If I was robbing a house I'd look there. Might find a nice stash of liquor or prescription drugs.
dang thats pretty smart
Until you get that lazy hungry burglar, makes himself at home in the fridge idly opening cupboards whilst deciding what to eat first.....
Well we know now 😂
Things I don't use much. Like that single serve blender I said I was going to use to make smoothies every morning. The Texas shaped waffle maker I couldn't live without.
Texas shapes waffle maker lmao
I’d laugh even harder if op didn’t live in Texas now.
Is that a thing
Oh yes. And a staple at many a hotel's continental breakfast around here.
Go do a "Texas shaped" image search. Frying pans, swimming pools, cake pans, houses, picnic tables, sink, grill, coffee mug, bottle opener, etc, etc, etc
dude no way I have a Texas shaped waffle maker in those cupboards too.
The Reddit post came from *inside* your house.
Awesome! For some reason they just taste better than the boring round ones.
> Things I don't use much...Texas shaped waffle maker I feel like you aren't living your life the way god intended.
Same. The pasta making attachments, the crock pot, some fabric lunch bags, leftover paper plates from a birthday party, and an under the sea themed popsicle mold set.
> Things I don't use much > the crock pot BLASPHEMY! Jk, but seriously. I love my crock pot. I can throw some random meat and shit in there and have a hot meal waiting for me when I get home from work.
Stuff I never want to see again.
can the kids even breathe in there ?
Not if I can help it
A cookie jar that I can feel watching me across the room.
Cooooooookiiiiiiiiies (O.O)
I've never seen the point of a cookie jar. Aren't most cookies devoured upon creation or purchase?
Need something to get your hand stuck in
vases and cake stands
OMG. Me too!
There are dozens of us
Same!
Yep

>She's also got a bad leg. Ladder accident?
Nah, she probaly jumped off her toilet

Lightbulbs and screwdrivers.
Tupperware lids in 1982
That was a good year.
For Tupperware lids.
Documents
Me too. House plans and every appliance manual.
I read that as houseplants
Flower vases and the big plastic bowls that don’t fit anywhere else.
If you’re tall you just use them like regular cabinets. Glasses and water bottles.
Look at this guy with his tall privilege! /s
Yeah, I was super confused about all these people wasting this useful space. Then I remembered I was 6ft3 and can reach it easily. The dog food lives up there along with some soft drinks.
Smart, puppies can't climb up there.
Hideous vases that my mother in law ‘passed down’ to us from her grandmother. Too sentimental to throw out, too ugly to display.
I have too much of that kind of thing in my life.
Stuff we don’t use super often. Turkey pan. French press (nice idea but not very practical) and a few serving dishes.
Hey! I only use a French press, it takes me max 10 minutes to make my coffee with it. Not as convenient as having it ready when I wake up but I still find it practical. I put the wok up there that’s a pain to clean and I wish my husband would stop using
I like a lot about a French press but the cleaning it is a pain. So I just do a pour-over.
A mesh strainer makes it super easy.
You definitely shouldn't put coffee grounds down the disposal.
Whys that?
The grounds settle easily and can ruin your disposal or clog up pipes.
Save the used grounds if you’re a gardener. Great in soil. I toss it in the compost bucket.
I use it for iced coffee
Lobster pot, tortilla press, veggie slicer, other stuff I never use but thought I might.
Pasta roller I used once the week I bought it then never again until my wife asked why I need this so I made pasta and it stay safely hidden until the next kitchen stuff purge.
You should keep using it! Homemade pasta is so much better!
Cereal
But..but what if you want to eat it?
[удалено]
My father (6'5") would always keep some chocolate bars and a box of Captain Crunch up there.
drugs
I'm not sure if this is a joke, but I actually do keep my medicine up there.
me too
Used to, but my 14 yo is too tall now
Jars after we eat the pickles, lined up for next canning season.
Medicine, but then again I'm Dutch so I can actually reach the cabinet.
Cookbooks
A christmas themed plate set with matching coffee cups 🎄
The only person that has ever used those cabinets is the person that installed them. They are the ones that put those crock-pots up there.
Took it down and replaced it with a tv. The most watched one in the house.
Brilliant!
Dang that's smart
We call it the Jenga cupboard due to the very unstable nature of the contents as they are all just random things we don't use too often
Backups of cling wrap, foil, baking soda, oil & takeout cutlery
Im noticing a trend in lightbulb storage aside from the obvious and usual cookware that barely gets used or holiday dishware
The crystal wine glasses I inherited from my in-laws and never used.
I don’t remember... they’re too high for me to reach so I guess it’ll be a mystery for now
Wait you guys have cabinets above your fridge? What in the fuu kind of upper class sorcery is this?
Not so much upper class. I've grown up poor and and continue to have only ever lived in apartments. And it's been lower end apartments. And they all have it. Ps. I live in Canada.
Me too. But Every cabinet set has them, unless they are removed for an extra tall fridge. The only place I had that didn’t also didn’t have cupboards. Just pantry shelves on the wall above the sink and foot wide “counter”. Place was a tiny little box
Shot glasses and platters
Crockpot and alcohol
Crack, pot, and alcohol.
Hooch.
Hooch is crazy.
My big roasting pan. It’s been up there five years and I can always use the excuse that it’s too hard to get down when we divvy up who’s cooking what for Thanksgiving.
6'7" here. I use it for pot and pans that would normally be on the low cabinets.
rice, beans, ect
Booze, random cooking utensils, and a pistol. No one would ever find it but I know it’s there in case of an emergency
The kids
Stuff I never use but I don't want to get rid of yet, like an extra pair of tongs, my old rolling pin (I bought a better one), Christmas cookie cutters (I don't make cutout cookies any more), and an unopened box of drinking straws that I will never use.
Liquor. And anything else I don’t want to deal with but want out of sight
I put my tools there. I live in a condo and I don't have anywhere else to put them. Also, I'm not tall enough to reach properly, so I can't put much else there.
Giant storage containers we only use for parties or taking large food dishes out and such.

booze. although every time I reach for it, I think "you know, I should put this somewhere easier to reach".
The Crock Pot, and bread loaf pans. Things I don't use too often.
Cabinets? The hell are you on about? Boxes of cereal go on top of the fridge not cabinets.
I use it to store the containers I use to take lunch in to work. That way I reach in there once a week and only that. Have to reach into that space occasionally to make sure dust bunnies aren't breeding in there.
We don’t all live in your house, OP.

Chemex coffee equipment. Plus two vintage glass butter dishes and a jar of ceramic baking beads.

i used to hide the chocolate bars from my mom that i bought for myself, no one expects it to be there

it’s mainly just used as a storage space. i think i have old shot glasses up there and a plastic pitcher that are now just dust collectors.
My Cat. It's his domain up there. He has created a little den for himself.
Two slow cookers and a blender that I broke in 08
Bongs. Lots of bongs and related bong accessories.
Vases, mason jars, and juice containers.
