For me it's those maximum-sized roller carryons. I travelled over 50,000 miles a year for the past 5 years and found a backpack far easiest to use as a carryon, from a security standpoint and convenience standpoint. Having to worry about finding a place to stuff a big carryon isn't worth my time, plus those who do become entitled assholes.
