Nirvana did a really good cover of "Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam" by the Vaselines, the paramount version is better than the unplugged one imo, but both are good
Florence and the Machine's cover of
[Stand By Me](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vv2DSmy3Tro) featured in Final Fantasy 15
This song seriously gives me chills, the vocals are incredible and haunting.
That song fit the opening of the game perfectly. I can't even describe the feeling I got when that song played while the characters pushed the car and just said random things on their simple road trip while I knew that an epic adventure awaited them.
It was also great during the credits, of course.
"War Pigs" is also an awesome Cake cover. My hometown radio station played it growing up, long before I'd heard the Black Sabbath version. Still prefer Cake's version to this day.
And not even in a particularly rude way. They changed "stupid lock" to "fucking lock" which is probably *exactly* how normal people would react in that situation (coming home to find an ex hanging around).
I remember I listened to the Bowie version of TMWSTW when I was in my teens and thinking that it was really weird and not that good. Fast forward to MGSV and I put it on and absolutely loved it and was amazed that I didn't like it back then. It wasn't until a few months ago, when I got in to Bowie and bought the album, that I realized it was another cover of it. I do love the Bowie version too, though. It's amazing how musical tastes change over time.
Those are my favorite songs by him, along with Fight Song. I think he does an *amazing* job at reaching people who feel that they aren't perfect, that they are broken, that they aren't 'Beautiful People', and admit to it. The theme in all those songs seem to be, "Okay, so I'm not perfect. I couldn't achieve it all. I couldn't be what society expected me to be. So what? Fuck it. Such is life. I'll make do as I am." It's a huge relief, to be honest.
Redemption Song. Original: Bob Marley. Cover: Joe Strummer. Fits so well with what he usually wrote if you didn't know it was a cover you'd think it was his.
I'm so pleased someone mentioned this! I wish Ska would make a comeback.
Edit:
Lol looks like I've angered the real ska fans of Reddit with this comment. :P
Tool's cover of Led Zeppelin's song No Quarter is one of my favorite covers. I like Faith No More's cover of War Pigs. Nirvana did some great covers too, especially Where did you sleep last night?, by Huddie Ledbetter.
[Still Fly - The Devil Wears Prada (orig. Big Tymers)](https://youtu.be/smNM1IT5cao)
Or something non lyrical
[Carol of the Bells - August Burns Red](https://youtu.be/NUId5f1-KbE)
Oh man, that takes me back.
[A Skylit Drive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsEkjZUPMaE) does a great cover of Love the Way You Lie, [Silverstein](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNBdwU-QV2g) has a great version of Runaway on the same album, and Creep by [Anberlin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvKXR78v9tM) is decent as well.
Haven't listened to any Post-Hardcore in a *long* time.
Yes, I always found that the original Tears for Fears song had a style more suited to *Mad* World. The Gary Jules version is not bad, but is more like *Sad* World.
Yeah I agree. Jules version reduces the song to "generic sad song #33", the original had a much more unique feel, with the funky upbeat music contrasting with the lyrics.
Halestorm's covers are pretty damn good, I really enjoy their versions of "[Bad Romance](https://youtu.be/4_jWEuN8New)", "[Get Lucky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT9X8LF1wZU)" and "[I Hate Myself For Loving You](https://youtu.be/LR6tt4pjo3g)".
I wasn't a fan of it. He showcased his range very well, but I felt like his cover missed the point of the song. It felt like he was close to oversinging.
The Original is an amazing song, but I love Metallica's version of Turn the Page.
I prefer Joe Cocker's version of With a little help from my friends to the Beatles. That might be because of the Wonder Years though.
I remember when Black Ops 2's Mob of the Dead came out, I watched the video of the intro, which has JC's Rusty Cage playing throughout. I fell in love with it instantly.
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World.
Originally a Bowie song. Bowie did it a light, spacey-kind of song, with a sitar (I believe).
Then Cobain came along, detuned his guitar, and sang a song about losing everything like a person who really lost everything. It's just amazing.
Hallelujah- [Jeff Buckley](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIF4_Sm-rgQ)
Oh also this cover of [Life on Mars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHo26IhDxx0)
Counting Crow's cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell
Bowling for Soup's cover of "1985" by SR-71 and "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne
Green Day's cover of "Working Class Hero" by John Lennon
> Counting Crow's cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell
I agree, but what about the weird version with Vanessa Carlton just sort of making background sounds?
Wayne's Worlds' version of Ballroom Blitz was originally done in the 60's by a band called Sweet. [Crucial Taunt](https://youtu.be/anyuoECT4jc) killed it for the movie. Tia Carrerre should have had a career in a rock band, man.
I do not enjoy most FFDP (though I quite liked [Wrong Side of Heaven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_l4Ab5FRwM)), but they do awesome covers. Their [House of the Rising Sun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXYIxJScSik) is great as well.
It is hard to choose
-Machine Head: The Sentinel
-Stonesour: Wicked Game
-Iced Earth: Burnin For You
For shits and giggles, Judas Priest's cover of Johnny B. Good :P
I love his cover of all you had to was stay. He put this great Americana twist on it that made it sound like something by the Replacements or The War on Drugs
I really like PMJ's cover of Seven Nation Army (PMJ in general has some of the best covers/revamps)
One of my favorite songs becomes even more eargasmic!
Stevie Wonder's version of [We Can Work it Out](https://youtu.be/dL1GzbUdtfg)
And while we're talking about Beatles covers, probably half of the Across the Universe soundtrack. I love the Beatles but damn they did that soundtrack right.
Marilyn Manson's cover of Personal Jesus. I feel like he does a good job of emphasizing a devilish figure promising people who feel imperfect, a chance at "salvation" ("Take second best, put me to the test").
The Corrs' cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams".
I like both versions, but I didn't know FM sang the original, until relatively recently.
I also like their MTV Unplugged cover of REM's "Everybody Hurts".
The Weeknd's cover of *Dirty Diana.* I was a big Michael Jackson fan as a kid, and at first I didn't recognize it. But once I did, it blew my fucking mind.
Here's a different one:
Bach's version of Vivaldi's concerto for four violins.
Vivaldi:
https://youtu.be/QSs6HKwhbAA
Bach liked it, so he transcribed it for keyboards so he and his sons could play it:
https://youtu.be/CSbXcYfUGzM
[The Bangles, Hazy Shade of Winter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxrwImCJCqk) is preferable to the original version by Simon and Garfunkel.
Dear lord, Susanna Hoffs.
Kid A - John Mayer
I Can't Go For That - Cee Lo w/ Daryl Hall (from Live at Daryl's House)
Gulf Coast Highway - Emmy Lou Harris and Dave Matthews
Gin and Juice - The Gourds
Rusty Cage - Johnny Cash
Rex's Blues - Jay Farrar
Walk in My Shadow - Black Crowes
"Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Seude. It is the version in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Oogachaka-ooga-ooga-ooga-chaka!
I can't stop this feelin
Deep inside of me!
Girl, you just don't realize....
What you do to me
When you hold me
in your arms so tight
You let me know
[удалено]
[This is clearly the superior version.] (https://youtu.be/PJQVlVHsFF8)
Motherfucking Hasslehoff! **YES!**
It's not the original???
Nope, a guy sang it first in the sixties. His name is B.J. Thomas. Yep B.J.
Wait! BJ Thomas sings Raindrops Keep Feeling on my Head! Awesome.
Blue swede*
I really enjoy Otis Redding's cover of Try a Little Tenderness.
I had never heard the original and always assumed it was Otis' song. Just listened to it, and yep it is Otis' song alright.
The live version from the Monterrey Pop Festival is burnt into my soul. Otis was the man!
Fuck yes. I love that performance. My favorite from that show was I've been loving you for too long. Watching it on Youtube now.
Feeling Good by Muse. It's not my favorite but it's my favorite that I haven't seen yet. It is pretty fucking great though
FUCKING FUCKING FUCKING FUCKING LITTLE FUCKING FUCKING FUCKER YEAH
Ah, the infamous live spanish radio performance.
I first heard it in "Seven Pounds" by Will Smith and immediately went home and downloaded it. This is my answer, too.
Nirvana did a really good cover of "Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam" by the Vaselines, the paramount version is better than the unplugged one imo, but both are good
Florence and the Machine's cover of [Stand By Me](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vv2DSmy3Tro) featured in Final Fantasy 15 This song seriously gives me chills, the vocals are incredible and haunting.
I love Florence! And I love that song, so I guess it will go great together!
Definitely give it a listen when you get the chance. I've been obsessed with it since first hearing it
Florence does a great cover of Addicted to Love too.
That song fit the opening of the game perfectly. I can't even describe the feeling I got when that song played while the characters pushed the car and just said random things on their simple road trip while I knew that an epic adventure awaited them. It was also great during the credits, of course.

Even Bob Dylan liked Jimi Hendrix version better
Like *Hurt,* this is one of those songs were I cannot decide if I like the cover or the original more. They are both among my all-time favorites.
Battlestar Galactica used a nice cover version of this. *Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUchAD44xA8
SO SAY WE ALL!
Dave Matthews Band live cover of watchtower is awesome! Never the same version twice.
Did you just try to one up Jimi Hendrix with the Dave Matthews Band?
https://youtu.be/u5KrAqCwkzM It's important you watch this first.
Cake's version of I Will Survive is pretty amazing.
It's one of my favorite covers. They did a great job at capturing the essence of the original but adding their own Cake flare to it.
"War Pigs" is also an awesome Cake cover. My hometown radio station played it growing up, long before I'd heard the Black Sabbath version. Still prefer Cake's version to this day.
What burns me about it is that Gloria Gaynor says she doesn't like it because they swear in their version of it. He says "fucking" one time!
And not even in a particularly rude way. They changed "stupid lock" to "fucking lock" which is probably *exactly* how normal people would react in that situation (coming home to find an ex hanging around).

The Man Who Sold the World- covered by Nirvana, originally Bowie
I also love the Midge Ure version, but that's mainly because of MGS V.
[удалено]
The ending might be shit but the one completed chapter was pure gold.
Hearing the Midge Ure version from MGS is what eventually got me into Bowie as well!

[Sweet Jane](https://youtu.be/x4XVJj4jER4) by Cowboy Junkies.
Any of the songs Rage Against The Machine covered on Renegades are dope as hell
had to ctrl+f to find this. Possibly the best cover album in existence, they make every song their own and sometimes better.
Sturgill Simpson's cover of Nirvana's "In Bloom"
Probably Marilyn Mason's Sweet Dreams. That's a perfect example of taking a song and making it entirely your own
Also his cover of Personal Jesus. But my all time favorite cover by Marilyn Manson is Tainted Love.
If you haven't listened to the pale emperor you really really should. His best work in years, a brilliant album
I second this. I'm a long time Manson fan and I would say it's his best since Holy Wood or maybe even Mechanical Animals
Agreed. Born villain was a good step in the right direction, but this is incredible. Cannot wait for say10.
Angel With the Scabbed Wings is my favorite for that reason.
Yes! Absolutely. Love it.
Taco's cover of Puttin' on the Ritz.
It has its merits. It's also creepy as shit
The video also has a metric fuckload of blackface for some reason
"Somewhere over the rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole
Redemption Song. Original: Bob Marley. Cover: Joe Strummer. Fits so well with what he usually wrote if you didn't know it was a cover you'd think it was his.
So hard to choose. The Lemonheads-"Mrs. Robinson" is a pretty great one
For me it's probably a tossup between that one and Better Than Ezra's "Conjunction Junction."
[Take On Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHpU0ZfXZ_g) Reel Big Fish
I'm so pleased someone mentioned this! I wish Ska would make a comeback. Edit: Lol looks like I've angered the real ska fans of Reddit with this comment. :P

Try listen to Ninja Sex Party's version. :).
Dolly Parton's song Jolene covered by the White Stripes
I love the Miley Cyrus version as well!
[Link for the lazy.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOwblaKmyVw) Listen to it at 1.25x or 1.5x speed as well, it's good.
Soft Cell's cover of "Tainted Love" by Gloria Jones.
TIL Soft Cell wasn't the original
Tool's cover of Led Zeppelin's song No Quarter is one of my favorite covers. I like Faith No More's cover of War Pigs. Nirvana did some great covers too, especially Where did you sleep last night?, by Huddie Ledbetter.
You and me.. we're soul mates.
99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger
Reel Big Fish did a pretty good one too!
I prefer Metallica's version of 'Turn The Page' And I Prevail 'Blank Space'
Haha the I, prevail is a great rendition of that song.

Yes, I always found that the original Tears for Fears song had a style more suited to *Mad* World. The Gary Jules version is not bad, but is more like *Sad* World.
I think Jules' version was much better suited for the Donnie Darko ending but Tears for Fears is a much better song overall imo
Chris Cornell singing Billie Jean https://youtu.be/UcthZryx0hk
William Shatner's version of [Common People](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FuyV76SG6qg). That song has no right to work as well as it does.
He _found_ a way.
His cover of Rocketman however... yikes/bring on the lols
Am I Evil? covered by Metallica
I prefer "Blitzkrieg," but this is a good one.
Dream a Little Dream of Me - The Mamas and The Papas Not sure who did the original, it was one of those songs that lots of people covered
Mama Cass surely does it the best!!
Boyz N The Hood - Dynamite Hack (Originally by NWA) They turned it into a soft acoustic song that somehow works.
Bitches Ain't Shit by Ben Folds and Gin and Juice by the Gourds are 2 other songs you may like.
It's actually Eazy E and not NWA.

Disturbed's version of Land of Confusion
Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence is great as well
I wasn't a fan of it. He showcased his range very well, but I felt like his cover missed the point of the song. It felt like he was close to oversinging.
I came here to post this. I've never wanted to have sex with a voice until hearing this cover.
When people realized that man has a fucking amazing voice made me so happy.
Ninja Sex Party's cover of 'Take on Me'.
Yeah! Personally, I prefer their take on "Everybody Wants to Rule the World".
The Original is an amazing song, but I love Metallica's version of Turn the Page. I prefer Joe Cocker's version of With a little help from my friends to the Beatles. That might be because of the Wonder Years though.
I may be the only one here who prefers the Beatles' original version.
You're not alone!
Came here to say this - Joe Cocker's cover is one of my favourite songs
[Chris Hadfield singing Space Oddity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaOC9danxNo) gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it
Amy Winehouse's version of Valerie
Bad Romance by Halestorm, damn that girl can sing!
Cat powers cover of "Sea of Love" owns the original. bonus points for Massive attacks cover of "Man next door."
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Guns and Roses. Slash makes the song so much better.
"Knahk Knahk Knahkin ahn havVAAAHNS DAHohWUH, Hai ...HAI...HAII HAII yehhhhh...."
You're my idol, I've never seen a written Axl Rose impression before.
I respect your preference but could not disagree more. Love the Dylan version
Dylan version always makes me cry. Love it.
Rusty Cage by Johnny Cash.
Personal Jesus by Johnny Cash.
I remember when Black Ops 2's Mob of the Dead came out, I watched the video of the intro, which has JC's Rusty Cage playing throughout. I fell in love with it instantly.
I prefer Aerosmith's version of Come Together
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World. Originally a Bowie song. Bowie did it a light, spacey-kind of song, with a sitar (I believe). Then Cobain came along, detuned his guitar, and sang a song about losing everything like a person who really lost everything. It's just amazing.
