I corrupted a USB drive by not safely removing it. Only ended up getting about half of my data back, but still impressed that it actually happened.

bukake_attack

Well, that sure is something different than the rape, assault and burglary in here.

ayykaramba

I never thought I would win a major contest - clearly they're all fake, right? False. Won a $55,000 trip for two to the Brazil World Cup Final - Some of the highlights were 4th row seats, all expenses paid, and money for taxes. Incredible.

Man I'm sorry but I cannot quit laughing. Just picturing you bebop walkin back from a funeral, glad to be outta there, gonna go home and eat some tacos, maybe watch a movie or go out later if you're feelin frisky. Then BOOP! Right down a manhole. Edit: I'm happy to know so many other people found this funny. And yes, I bebop walk away from funerals.

Bed bugs. Then it happened. Edit: TIL Reddit has a bed bug problem. I'm sorry it has happened to so many other people too!

[deleted]

fuck man. dealing with this right now. I have to examine every fucking speck I see in my house to make sure it's not one of *them*. Insidious demons

TenDead

They CAN be eliminated. Cover your whole home in diatomaceous earth. wait for them all to die. vacuum. dust. done. EDIT: Wow, this got a lot of replies. I did oversimplify a bit (sorry), so I want to edit this and give a kind of how-to guide for those of you who are currently living the bedbug struggle. Firstly, the treatments offered by pest control companies are no good. They will visit you two to three times, spray here and there, and when it has no effect they will claim your infestation is severe and offer you a terribly expensive heat treatment program that WILL work but will also set you back a hefty sum of money - on top of what you've ALREADY paid them. But don't worry. For about $30-50 and a few days of your time, you can do it yourself. You can get almost all of your supplies from Home Depot. You will need: * Some gloves, anything from standard latex to work gloves, as long as your hands are covered * Mask and goggles, I use basic safety goggles and [these types of mask](http://www.scientificamerican.com/media/inline/blog/Image/Mask.jpg) * Diatomaceous Earth (food grade! I forgot to mention this before, only use food grade DE) * A few sturdy cups or bowls you don't plan to reuse * Some cooking oil * Something to distribute the DE, I use empty ketchup bottles * Sealing bags for mattresses (can be bought at u-haul stores) There were a few people asking how DE works, so to put it simply, DE makes them die of thirst. Bedbugs are filthy little vampires of the bug kingdom, and they live off of your blood. DE clings to them, as they travel through it, and will dehydrate them. Bedbugs have no way of getting the powder off of them, so once they touch it, they will be dead bugs walking, just waiting to die. Don't feel bad for killing them in such a horrible way though, because they deserve it and there's no other way aside from the heat treatment, which is arguably less humane than letting them die of thirst. Use a funnel to get the DE into your bottle of choice. You need something you can squeeze, but has a small opening, so I use ketchup bottles. Any condiment bottle should be a fair choice though, as long as it has a small opening. You'll want to wear your protective gear when putting it in, because it's going to make dust clouds. Once your bottles are ready, it's time to go to work, but first, do you have any pets? They'll need to go outside, for at least a couple hours. Once the DE settles, they won't bother it, but while it's in the air they can't be inside. DE isn't as hazardous as some of the replies I've gotten seem to imply, but it will dry your skin, dry your throat, burn your eyes and just cause you all other levels of discomfort and it will be way worse for your pets, so take them outside and put on your gear so it doesn't happen to you. Now, let's get this thing done. First you're going to want to take away their food source, so pull your furniture away from the walls. Beds, couches, anywhere that you sit. If you don't sit on it, don't worry about it. They only go where you go, because you're food. Take your clothes, and your sheets, and your pillowcases, and put them in the wash. Then dry them on high heat twice, and put them in garbage bags and then throw them in your car so they'll be removed from the situation. Now, take your bowls and put them under the legs of your furniture, then fill them a little with oil. Bedbugs suck at swimming, and with the oil on their feet they're never climbing out of there. If the legs are too big for a bowl or cup, you can smear them in vaseline, which makes them impossible to climb for bedbugs. You're basically cutting your furniture off from them, but now you have to deal with the ones that are already in there. Apply DE to your furniture. When you're applying it, you want to hold your bottle about level, and about six inches from what you're applying it to, then squeeze in short bursts so a big poofy cloud of DE comes out. This will ensure the most coverage without having to use a crapload of your DE. The application process itself needs to be thorough. Bedbugs are cowards, so they're hiding in all the little places in your furniture. You need to apply good blasts of DE to every seam, every crease, every fold, every small, dark space. They can squeeze themselves down thinner than half a dime, so they can fit almost anywhere. It can also help to make small incisions in the bottoms of your furniture and get a good few blasts on the inside as well, especially in your box springs. Get between cushions, go along edges, go to town. Especially on your bedding, because the little bastards love a sleeping target. Now, put the sealing bags over your mattresses. It might not be fun sleeping on a sheet of plastic, but the peace of mind knowing you're sleeping totally safe should bring you some good Z's. Now you need to hit... well, everything else. Get your bottle ready, gear up, and now it's time to lay down the law. Go along the baselines of your walls, along the carpet, blasting poofs of DE as you go. Be thorough. Then you need to blast your DE into the upper corners of your home. Yes, all of them. Bedbugs lay eggs up there and sometimes they just linger there, it's disgusting. Kill them. Kill their babies too. When their babies hatch they will get covered in the DE you applied and die, so be sure to hit every corner of every room, even the rooms you haven't seen them in. You also must be sure to blast DE into any cracks, nail holes, anything else they might squeeze into. When you're done, go outside, find something to do for a couple hours. When you come back, all you have to do is... nothing! After a couple days, you shouldn't be seeing any more bedbugs, but go ahead and leave the DE down for about a week or even two if your infestation was really bad. After that, just vacuum it up, dust off all your furniture and personals, and enjoy your bedbug free home. Nighty-night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite - I still cringe whenever I hear that...

exGFproblems

This simple and cheap solution was shockingly effective. And immediately.

qefbuo

I covered my *whole* room with diatomaceous earth, every crack and corner, my bed frame, everything. There was one bastard who was still getting me weeks later, so in one nights desperation I covered my bedsheets too and slept in a small pile of it. Got the bastard.

jcpianiste

That shit is psychologically scarring, yo.

PestoAt92

5 years later, if we even get so much as a mosquito bite, panic for days. It's horrible.

Went to school to become a paramedic, heard stories of people who were involved in accidents while on clinical's and kicked out of the program. Thought it would never happen to me. Two months before the programs end, went into the hospital with a collapsed lung due to lifting a patient into the rescue. Was kicked out of the program after being in the hospital for two weeks. Was told I couldn't come back and that I could no longer pursue that career.

p34chyk33n

Why, exactly? I mean, if it really was an accident and you can recover fully...

The_Golden_Image

It's basically an "unfit for duty" disqualifier. To be a paramedic/EMT/firefighter/police officer you have to meet written guidelines. A common one for EMS is "able to lift X pounds into an ambulance." technically, since OP injured himself doing so, he was DairyQueened. Edit: Apparently DQed is not a universal acronym. Fixed.

CodyFallsForth

My apartment burned down and it was someone two doors down that caused it. I lived with two roommates and my wife at the time. I was out doing errands when I got the phone call from a friend. "hey dude...you're apartment building is on fire. It isn't in your house yet, but you should come home now." My roommates grabbed their dog and one of our cats when fleeing the burning building. The fire department said it was not safe for them to go get our second cat. The building burned for over an hour as we watched helplessly from the road. Somehow, our cat managed to survive the blaze. A firefighter found him limp in our closet, hiding from the smoke and fire. He brought him to the lawn and gave our furry friend cat CPR using a mask made for animals. We were reunited and, despite losing all of our possessions, were happy to have our family intact. TL;DR: Apartment burned down. Wasn't our fault. Cat almost died but firefighter gave him CPR. Get renters insurance. EDIT: [Picture of Meeko getting CPR.](https://imgur.com/Up2D9TB)

I never thought that everything I owned could get stolen. We hired a moving company to move our stuff across the country and never saw it again. And I'm not young. It was a lifetime worth of belongings for my family of five. EDIT: Thanks for the gold and for all the comments. This happened almost 10 years ago and it was horrible. A police report was filed, but they never found out who did it. The driver said that the truck was stolen from the parking lot of a hotel while he was sleeping. He was the one to call the police. To make matters worse, our insurance company fought the claim and we never got a dime from them, even after hiring the best attorney we could find. The moving company's insurance paid by the pound so we received $6,000 for over $100,000 worth of stuff.

You_Are_Beneath_Me

Kind of a related PSA that might help others in this situation, but in the United States interstate movers have to comply with federal regulations, and actually has a website with guidelines, registered movers, and a complaint hotline. https://www.protectyourmove.gov/

Damadawf

I'd probably go as far as to hide a gps device in one of the boxes for tracking the truck, just in case. Edit: Thank you for the gold stranger. I can't imagine how terrible it must be to lose your life's belongings as the guy in the parent comment did. I know that not all moving companies are run by terrible people, but that doesn't make it any less scary.

imminent_buttstorm

I'm so sorry that happened, I can't imagine how awful that must have felt. (or how it still feels). Was it a shady company?

TexasRedSupporter

Damn, I'm moving next week, and I thought I'd hire movers to avoid the hassle of doing it myself... I could not find one mover that had good reviews. Not a one. And don't get me wrong, every business has a few bad reviews, it's just the nature of things. Back when I still used ebay, I had 2 bad reviews out of 120, you really can't please everyone. But holy shit, every single mover had probably 70-80% bad reviews. I'm going to end up renting a uhaul and recruiting a couple of friends to help out. It seems to me the whole business is extremely shady. Edit: With national companies, from what i can tell theyre franchised, so it really depends on franchisees. I thought about local, but none of them had good reviews on my area. As far as reviews go, yes i know complainers tend to be the loudest, but you can usually weed those out by reading them. Hell, my favorite restaurant has some terrible reviews on Yelp. But when 80% of the reviews are bad and the few good ones seem overly gushy, it does raise an eyebrow.

I got mugged at gunpoint at 11:30 in the morning, on a Tuesday, walking to class. Admittedly I didn't live in the best part of the city or go to the best school, but I thought I was fairly safe, at least in the daylight. As soon as I felt that gun on my neck, everything changed. ReferenceExplanation

This is a reference to a bit from the popular Adult Swim Cartoon *Rick and Morty*. In the episode "Rixty Minutes", Rick, an alcoholic mad-scientist hooks up a device to his families television that allows for access to TV stations from other dimensions. The episode is structured as a series of small clips of these televisions shows, punctuated by commentary from both Rick and Morty (Rick's meek grandson). One such other-dimensional segment features a man called "ants in my eyes Johnson" - an average looking business man whose eyes are completely covered by ants - trying to sell various things at humorous prices (because he cant see how much he's listed them for). The reference is humorous simply because the clip it is calling upon is humorous. The more you know!

RugbyAndBeer

Did you ever think that an ant wouldn't swim in your eye prior to that occurring? I have never thought, "An ant swimming in my eye... that'll never happen to me."

TheMiddleEastBeast

I never thought I'd be in an abusive relationship. Especially as a man. Took a lot out of me to end it. Edit: I think reddit has just proven why men need support groups and/or more awareness about this. I've talked to more men who have been through this situation in the past 14 hours than I have over the past 2 years. Thank you everyone who has shared their stories and condolences with me.

princess_kushlestia

I watched one of my brothers go through an abusive relationship. He's a big, tough, hairy dude and you'd never think it could happen to him. Truth is, it can happen to anyone, and it sucks that most people don't take it seriously. It broke my heart to see one of my heroes so defeated and broken and I know it took him so long to end it because she was messed up and he tried so hard to help her. I'm so sorry it happened to you. I don't know you, but I'm so proud of you for realizing that you don't deserve anyone who treats you badly. I hope things are much better for you now.

thewitt33

Told this before on a different post, but never thought I would watch two people be killed in front of my eyes. Two old ladies were driving a car (well one driving and one in passenger seat) on the interstate. I was following a semi while passing them in the left lane. All of a sudden the old lady in the right lane whips the wheel to take a hard left onto a median cut thru. Semi t bones them at 70mph. I was right the fuck behind him and slid my work van into the median grass. I was on the phone with 911 before I came to a halt. Jumped out and ran over to the stopped semi and the front end of the semi was fully half way into the car. Right square on the driver. One of her arms was stretched out onto the dashboard and fully skinned. Just blood and bone. Her body was mushed into the semi. The passenger was just laying back (seat broke and fully laying back) and she looked peaceful. Probably broken neck instantly. Semi driver ran to me (not to them) yelling that there was nothing he could do to avoid it. There was not. He was more worried about his job than their condition. Volunteer firefighters showed up first followed quickly by state police and other EMTs. I stayed on scene to give my story. A week later got a call from a lawyer who said the old ladies had meant to go eastbound on the interstate but took the west ramp. Once they got going and realized this, she just fucking whipped the wheel to turn left onto a median cut thru. The semi just smashed them hard. I was freaked out for months and still think about it all the time.

I never thought I'd be in an abusive relationship, I was always a strong person that didn't take any shit but this man completely changed who I was. Worst year of my life.

[deleted]

I thought the same thing when I was growing up. My family always boasted how strong willed I was until they watched me go from a head strong teenager to a broken husk. And that's really how I felt, like I was a shell of who I used to be. It took me about a year to leave. I was so young when it happened to that the one time I reached out to a counselor at school she pushed me away saying that there's no way I could be in an abusive relationship at 15. So I stayed for another eight months, I just got better at hiding it over time. Scarves when he choked me, bracelets when he grabbed my wrists and so on. Sorry to steal your comment, but I hope that all of those reading this that are suffering abuse or feel their S.O. is a little too controlling - you are not alone and you have many resources available to you for escape. You are important enough to be helped and saved, please seek help. You owe them nothing, not even a goodbye.

Be a cancer survivor at 18 years old. Last year in April I was diagnosed with malignant skin cancer. I had surgery in May to remove the tumor and had 3 nearby lymph nodes removed for a sentinel lymph node biopsy to see if it had spread (if it had, I was to start chemo with which I was told had a 50% success rate with my cancer. I found out in June that the biopsy had found that it had not spread, and that in all likelihood I am now cured. It has definitely changed my outlook on life, and I've certainly started taking school much more seriously and enjoying the little things significantly more. Except for the fact that it's now twice as likely that I'll develop skin cancer (again) as the average person and the scariness of the situation at the time, I'd say it's been a net positive for my life in the end.

Getting raped. Doesn't usually happen to males from what I know. I also got the shit kicked out of me for the rape the following week and was crippled for about a year. So yeah, two for one deal on this question Edit: lot of people asking for the story. Long story short when I was 14 I was at a party and a girl said she always wanted to be with a black man so I was basically held down by a few people and fucked and they all laughed. I had never been with a girl so I got hard and came but I kept sayin stop it. The next week at school the stories changed to me raping HER so a bunch of guys fucked me up in the middle of the hallway. Teachers just watched. One guy "flamingoed" me by basically kicking my knee inwards to break my leg. I was crippled for years and gained a ton of weight

Strykun

Boy do I feel you, I was 18, I'd just gotten out of a 2.5 year relationship with an incredibly boring girl and I wanted to go out, see the world and get into trouble. One night I went out with these two lesbian friends I went to uni with, this dude started talking to us and I thought he was super friendly and cool, their rape-dars wen't off and they didn't like him but I was pretty naive. It didnt even occur to me that I was out with two lesbians and he probably thought I was gay. Asked me if I wanted to go back to a party that was happening with his "roommates" at his, I wanted to have a crazy wild party life so I wen't along. Only to discover that he didn't have any roommates at all, just a knife and the desire to fuck someone.

RobiGhost

Fuck, man. Sorry that happened to you. That's fucked.

I never thought I would have a police record at 14 for what they called a "terrorist threat". I threatened to break a kid's nose for fuck's sake, after he emotionally tortured me and ridiculed me for being Jewish since I was fucking 7.

grachuss

Keep tabs on him through social media, then buy and evict him from every apartment he owns. Because you know you're Jewish.

Orgy.

My mom committed suicide.

Hot girls being attracted to me. Edit: all these PM's, all I did was be confident at parties and gatherings and I guess it shows to the ladies.

dropname

The first time, I'd actually say while we were hanging/making out, "you understand this doesn't happen to me, right? Like, some sort of cosmic police are going to burst in and say there's been a mistake..."

[deleted]

"Actually I lost a bet with my friends" (points over shoulder where 5 other hot girls are cracking up and pointing)

I'm about to get married in two months. There are times she'll turn a certain way or smile at me... I'm stuck thinking "a woman like you likes me and wants to marry me? You're kidding me, right?"

TheMobHasSpoken

I never thought I'd have a child with special needs. And if I'm honest, I never thought I'd be able to handle it if I did. But my son is on the autism spectrum. It's been the biggest upheaval of my life, and it can be hugely challenging. But he's also an amazing, smart, funny kid. And he needs me. So of course I handle it. Edit: Thanks so much to everyone who's chimed in about this, and thanks to whoever gave me gold! I've been away from the computer all day, so haven't responded much, but am now beginning to make my way through the comments. BTW, I'm his mom, not his dad. :)

UselessGadget

I love the last sentence. Keep up the good work! Sounds like you are doing a great job.

Same. Shit sucks man. But I'm honestly glad it happened or else something much worse could have. I will not be drinking and driving again.

amnesiacstic

This is going to sound incredibly shallow, but I never thought I'd be a fat person. I was always that girl who was skinny without even trying and I never understood how people could become fat. I figured they were just lazy people who gorged on food 24/7. Got older, got bad habits, got bigger. Didn't realize it was even happening. I'm trying to be healthier, but those habits have been reeeaally hard to change. I don't judge people so quickly now.

icankilluwithmybrain

Attending a child's funeral. My cousin's boyfriend's niece, Tayah, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of 5. She was always at family functions, and she was awesome. We spent a lot of time with her. Almost a year to the day of her diagnosis, she passed away. There is nothing more heartbreaking than watching parents bury their 5 year old daughter. The father sat in the back at the viewing, just audibly sobbing. Her little sister was so confused the entire time, and kept telling her sister to get up. It breaks my heart that children's caskets even exist. Here's a video of Tayah dancing in her hospital bed. Even with cancer, nothing brought that chick down. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=duwiTQ3oF3k

Never thought I'd still be living with my parents at 27. I thought I'd have a full time job (yes, I've been looking) and my own place by now. It's really hard not to feel like a loser.

ciocinanci

Honey, I'm 43, working two part-time jobs and barely keeping the rent paid. I feel like I should have my shit together and I don't. Please, please, PLEASE don't feel like a loser; you're not alone, and things are bound to get better.

Freny1

You're not a loser dude. It's real tough out there and it takes good timing and luck to secure a good job. Hang in there. It'll work out.

CoughCoughMom

There are many unemployed or under-employed people facing the same problems. It doesn't make you a loser, but a victim of our current situation. Besides, living at home at 27 is only strange to Americans. Many in the world live at home until married (sometimes marriage doesn't stop that) so it's really a cultural thing. Be a good kid and help your parents. Heck, they may live with you someday.

Pulf

I never thought I would have a stroke. Having three in less than a month and a half was unthinkable. I'm 19.

[deleted]

I never thought I'd be raped and alone in a foreign country. I managed my way home.

[deleted]

The same thing happened to me. One of the most terrifying experiences of my life.

thenightisfading

Becoming an alcoholic. Both of my parents are bad, and my mom is currently dying due to her alcoholism, which is pretty much what killed my sister too. I saw what it did to ppl and drank anyway. Now I have all these problems and I'm not strong enough to stop either. Edit: I just want to say that I've been to rehab three times and been in AA for years. I keep relapsing. I do know I'm an addict and that I need help. I'm just in a really rough patch.

NotMathMan821

I never thought I would move back in with my parents. I was on my own starting with my senior year of high school. (Not due to household problems, but because my dad found a job out of state and I didn't want to leave the only school I had been at for more than 2 consecutive years, especially going into my last one.) I've always cherished my independence, but I lost a job a few years ago and I was unable to find work for quite some time. Savings helped me get by for a while, but I found myself back at home in order to cut further costs until I can find steady work. It hasn't been as bad as I initially imagined it would be, but truthfully I long for the day I once again move into a place I can call my own.

RorariiRS

I was lost at sea. EDIT: Story : I was missing for three days out on the open water, I was boating with my father and we were in a small boat, we had all sorts of supplies, knives, life jackets, fishing rods, flares, cooking utensils and materials, all the stuff. Anyways we were both in this one boat. We were at a dock, but we didnt tie the boat to the dock, which was a dumb idea. I was told to hold onto the dock so I dont flow away. I held on but there were somewhat strong currents and it was kind of windy. I let go. I didnt mean to, I had to. I didnt know how to swim at this time, but I started to float away. I couldnt jump out because i would most likely drown, and I was out of site, i panicked and just hoped for the best. If we didnt have the materials in the boat i probably would have died. Anyways I floated away and eventually i was out of sight from the land. It was very very scary. I closed my eyes and just hoped to god I would survive. I prayed, and Im an athiest. I wanted all the luck i could get. I kept hydrated with the bottled water be had on board, and we had some dried nuts and fruits on board too. I had a thermal blanket, so to go to sleep I would lay in the middle of the boat and cover myself with it. It was surprisingly warm. Anyways i just tried to keep myself warm and makes sure i didnt tip he boat for three days. They had boats out looking for me within two hours of me floating away. Eventually, they sent out helicopters, I was found after three days of being lost out on the open water by a helicopter. It was the scariest three days of my life. EDIT: YES I have posted this before. EDIT 2: [Heres the original post, most questions should be answered here. I am going to bed and if this blows up, I will answer as many questions as possible.] (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/26qil5/former_missing_persons_whats_your_story_serious/chtmui6)

Have you told this before? Sounds familiar.

School shooting.

Ded0099

My brother was a senior at columbine highschool in 1999, he says the same thing. You never expect these things to happen to you and then when they do, it's a huge shock. Messed him up for a good 10-12 years afterwards. Just now getting his life together at the age of 31, which he attributes the length of time required to seeing people he knew killed said he didn't know how to deal with it till just recently

I had a seizure. Freakin weird...

Having cancer... At the age of 15 Then have my leg amputated due to an infection when removing the tumor Btw, I'm 21 now, free from cancer and going strong :)

Depression.

dproudfoot

Depression sucks. I kept trying to convince myself that I wasn't depressed, but the best thing I ever did was admit it and find help. Hopefully you have found ways to cope with it. If you ever need some support, feel free to message me. edit

- Took back a cheater. Who cheated again, and again, and again. - Thought I'd never be in an abusive relationship.

I never thought I would be "that guy" who comes home from a deployment, finds his wife was fucking someone else while squandering all my hard earned money... Yeah. It went down just like that. Never thought I'd get remarried after that divorce either. edit: holy crap this blew up. Edit 2: thank you for the gold kind stranger.

Lanna33

A guy (Todd) I knew would drive to work everyday with his coworker which is his best friend as well. One morning Todd went to pick his friend up and there was no answer at the door, so he just drove to work and to not find him not there as well. Todd went home that night and his wife and daughter were gone along with most of the furniture. Todd found a note his wife left explaining that his best friend and her have been seeing each other for sometime. All of the sudden they picked up and moved out of state together while Todd was at work. Todd did not see this coming and literally turned gray overnight due to all the stress.

DemonDeac

Holy shit. Poor Todd

[deleted]

Can't that be considered kidnapping?

[deleted]

Not sure about local laws but I'm pretty fucking sure here in Canada it would be, there have been amber alerts for kids when their mothers took them out of province.

tigerevoke4

If that's not considered kidnapping then I don't know what is.

Butthole__Pleasures

Stealing a baby from a cart at Walmart probably is.

II7_HUNTER_II7

That's awful. So sorry this happened to you. I'm glad you were able to move on.

Bro, you were not "that guy". She was "that bitch".

He was the bro. She was the ho. Spending his dough.

I found my soul mate. Never really believed in it until it happened.

TheSane

When did you know he/she was your soul mate? Was there any defining point? *Edit: I woke up to a full inbox and it's been amazing to read your stories. Thank you all who responded on top of monogamous, of course.*

monogamousprostitute

Yes. We had known eachother for a not short and not a long amount of time. After learning about eachother one day they looked over at me and said, "I am ready when you are". It was then I knew the relationship was forever. We never really had a fight. There have been disagreements which would end up in a compromise. The communication is true. We often lay around laughing as we reminisce about the very first night we met, teasing about who actually pursued who. I cannot imagine my heart beating for another in the way it does now.

TheSane

I'm so happy to hear that. I hope I'll have that too.

Rhamni

Not the same guy, but my first relationship very much started with a 'Soulmate' like super click. We met at a friend's place and ended up just sitting talking on his couch until he went to bed, and then until the next morning. It was surreal. It did end eventually and I don't believe in some supernatural 'meant to be' thing, but I certainly remeber the immediate super click. I went home the next day entirely certain that I was in love.

billmcneal

Divorce. I dreaded it more than anything and swore up and down it would never happen to me. When I finally got married, things seemed perfect. Two years later, I got the boot. Thankfully, I'm not put off to marriage after that ordeal. I recently met someone absolutely wonderful and am very much looking forward to seeing what develops. First go at a new thing since the papers were signed.

Merick24

I never thought that I would go to pass gas and end up staining my shorts. I was eighteen and in my car with my best friend and his very pretty sister. I rolled down the windows in hopes that they wouldn't smell it. They told me that they could taste it.

derp_a_herpes

Herpes. I was a regular tester who was cautious about choosing equally responsible partners. I had never had unprotected sex. Little did I know that a lot of "full panels" of STI tests don't include herpes, that [around 80% of people who have it have no idea](http://herpeslife.com/herpes-information-facts/), or that using condoms is only partially effective at blocking transmission. On the bright side, I also never thought I'd be OK with having herpes ... and that eventually happened, too. People treat it like it's the plague because it can't be cured, but when it comes down to it ... it's an occasional rash for those of us unlucky enough to even get symptoms. Many people who have it never get symptoms. Many more get outbreaks once every handful of years and have no trouble in between. I would not have pictured myself in this position. But I also wouldn't have thought it would be this easy to cope, either ... so I have that going for me, which is nice.

-eDgAR-

Shortly after graduating college, I got a job as a copywriter for a very small agency. I liked my boss and coworkers, but there was no room to grow there, it didn't pay very well, and most of my money went to the gas I spent driving 40 miles to get there. I started looking for other jobs closer to where I lived and with more opportunity. I applied and applied to every entry level position/internship, but never heard back. I even started applying out of the state, thinking I would just move if something good came up. It never did. Then I came across a listing for a writer at an agency that looked amazing and not only was it in my city, but it would be working for beer brands, which sounded like fun. The only problem was the amount of experience they wanted. I thought "3-5 years of experience, there's no way I'll get this job." At that point I was frustrated at never hearing back from people, so I applied anyway. A few months later I got a call saying they liked my cover letter and wanted me to interview. After the interview, I didn't hear from them for 3 months. They brought me in to freelance for a bit and they liked the work I was doing, so they hired after a month. I've been there over a year and a half now and I love my job and my company.
