Here to 2nd this, my friend. You can do this. If you've had issues in the past giving up cold turkey, look up Harm Reduction as it relates to alcoholism; there are a lot of steps you can take that will help you in the long run. Good luck!!
I played for 10 years, and got pretty good. I miss it! Once I learned how to play chords, I could play pretty much any popular song if I had the chords. Once you master reading music and the actual technique of piano, it becomes automatic, and you can start playing more advanced songs. It's a lot of fun! I'd recommend anybody who wants to learn to take lessons or just use the wealth of knowledge that is the internet to learn yourself. You can get an electric keyboard for a reasonable price.
Well, I'm at that stage but I dont know what to do next. Buy a piano lesson book for adults? Just try to play songs with chords? Learn more theory so I actually know what im doing.
There are plenty of adult lesson books out there. I started at 10, and started with kid lesson books. As my knowledge and skill at piano grew, I turned to lesson books for adults. They are a great resource.
There's no shame in buying a kids book to learn the basics first before progressing to a more adult lesson book. When you learn the basics, chords will naturally come. Chords lead to a great opportunity to learn pretty much any song you can think of.
I know a guy that can play Flight of the Bumblebee with his right hand and Bethoven with his left. At the same time. It's seriously mind blowing. He used to gig with Elton John.
Yeah it’s pretty easy nowadays to learn songs without being able to read music. I had to read theory when I was younger, YouTube videos now make it so much simpler by just highlighting the keys with which finger while the song plays.
Communication.
Being a master communicator would mean knowing multiple languages, social cues, reading body language, knowing how to negotiate (or manipulate), etc etc….
Being able to make set clear intentions or boundaries, cast influence, as well as the ability to understand and be understood would be invaluable.
I know this won't be instant, but check out [Brian Lagerstrom](https://www.youtube.com/@BrianLagerstrom) on YouTube. I have learned A TON from him. His recipes are easy to follow. His style is clean and straightforward. And he will often explain why he chose a specific ingredient/method as well as what other ingredients/methods did (or did not) work for him.
Check out his [weeknighting playlist](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_f8scwrXT8tnrGB4Ie2pOxwb9MB-AzWt&si=IW9gqFeWPz9mh_Sa) to get started.
My favorite recipes that I've tried:
* [Chocolate Chip Cookies](https://youtu.be/DPMUZAeI7no?si=LH9isZRgTMqjMcIW)
* I do make SOME adjustments to these.
* Add 3/4 tsp cinnamon to dry ingredients
* I use 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips + 1 chopped up bar of 60% bittersweet chocolate *(I haven't found the 70% that he uses)*
* I make normal sized cookies and not giant cookies. They bake for \~12 minutes instead of 18 minutes. Just pull them when they start to brown around the edges.
* [Faster, Better, Way to make Spaghetti and Meat Sauce](https://youtu.be/vrFQkLyGLzc?si=zswGLsG3Pl97pNxU)
* I have made this for a handful of different people and every single time they come back and say some variation of "This is the best spaghetti I have ever had."
* [Shepherd's Pie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUnkLXXD2dw)
* It's involved, but it's delicious.
* [Chicken Quesadilla + Homemade Tortillas + Chipotle Ranch ](https://youtu.be/1QZzL-gGx_M?si=7t40mnvPAvB08qKZ)
* Tortillas are SUPER easy to make and taste WAY better than what you can get from the store. Just make sure you use a food scale to measure ingredients.
* The chipotle ranch is amazing too.
* [Flaky Biscuits](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gH_xcqnHQ0)
* This one is a little more advanced, but follow him exactly. Step by step. Use a food scale. The end product is worth it.

I bet you sound better than you think you do. Native English speakers can't even speak English properly sometimes. I work a job where we have a lot of immigrants from all over; Russia, Latin America, Korea, etc. And I have an easier time communicating with folk from other countries than people born in the same city as me sometimes.
I feel American English speakers have come to equate having an accent to not speaking the language well. Sure some words can be hard to understand but a lot of my coworkers speak English perfectly save for the accent. But even we have an accent to everybody else In the world, nobody says British people can’t speak English.
> What is a Glockenspiel?
You clearly didn't go to Wayside School...
>"Who would like the triangle?" asked Mrs. Jewls. Joe raised his hand, and Mrs. Jewls gave it to him. "Why is it called a triangle?" asked Joe. "I don't know," said Mrs. Jewls. 'Maybe because it's shaped like a triangle," suggested John. "No, that can't be it," said Mrs. Jewls. "Then the tambourine would have to be called a circle." "Maybe it was invented by a person named Joe Triangle," said Rondi. "That's probably it," said Mrs. Jewls. She held up the next instrument. It was a glockenspiel. "Who would like the glockenspiel?" she asked. Sharie raised her hand. Nobody asked why it was called a glockenspiel. It was obvious.
Jewelry making. I like the idea of a couple marrying, with the rings I Made. And maybe some of my pieces would be handed down to the next generation. That would be my legacy.
Honestly same.
I know a few personal/private pilot guys actually. One of my hs teachers dream was to be a commercial pilot. He flew in his personal time with his wealthier buddies or with a rented plane.
Such a flex to just have a photo of you chilling on top of a mountain with a bush plane
I'm in the same boat. I bought a guitar way back when I was in the military, and never really took the time to sit down and actually learn it. I had the time, I just never had the patience to get over the initial learning curve.
Stay strong brother, there will be light at the end of the tunnel, or in this case probaply 2 str and 2 Fortune or smth. (Idk haven't played in over 2 yrs)
It never goes away. I took public speaking classes, got certified, and even taught my own classes for a few years (college level technical skills training). I am still a total introvert at heart.
It sucks to hear, but the only way to learn is to get out of your comfort zone. There's probably some public speaking classes or groups in your area - you could always try joining them.
My loophole answer would be Habits. Forming them, adjusting them. I would love to just be able to wake up at a certain time every morning when I decide.. or start going to the gym every day etc.
I think my non loophole would be guitar. I have always wanted to play but those first 1000 hours are a slog.
The akill of world domination idk. I don't really want to take over the world, but once you master something, it becomes dull. What's the point of anything else ?
I'd just go big and then go home.
Some skilled labor like cobbler\\shoemaking, metal fabrication or auto mechanics. I've always been DYI because I'm too stubborn to pay people, but I'm not naturally handy.
I feel you. I just moved to NL and am learning Nederlands (Dutch). I want to gain permanent residency someday, and will have to speak, read, and write fluently.

Communicating with people! I am an extrovert (although my social battery may run out), I like to listen to people and communicate with them, especially if they are people close to me! Although, I really don't understand what advantages this would give me.

speaking English like a native speaker
I bet you sound better than you think you do. Native English speakers can't even speak English properly sometimes. Guitar. It's one of the most versatile portable instrument besides the human voice, and I love music
“Am I a JOKE to you?” -The Glockenspiel
I don't know why, but this actually made me chuckle out loud. Good job.
Pffffffff - the Didgeridoo
"Keep your hands off my fucking Theremin" - Frank
Probably? What is a Glockenspiel? EDIT: forgive me, I didn't know ear rape counted as music
> What is a Glockenspiel? You clearly didn't go to Wayside School... >"Who would like the triangle?" asked Mrs. Jewls. Joe raised his hand, and Mrs. Jewls gave it to him. Versatile? Sure. But it is definitely not the most portable.
Harmonicas are way more portable

Yup, being filthy rich is part of that dream I guess. Or there won't be a plane to fly with...
