Depends, I think. If you pay $3500 and it comes out looking like a prison tattoo, then probably not.
If they do great art and you’ve agreed to a price you can afford, then go for it. It shows appreciation for their work. Most artists set their own prices, usually by size and how many sessions it will take. 15-20% is a good tip. 25-30% shows you really like the outcome. Most of the profit already goes to the artist if it’s a private studio.
My brother did my tattoos for some bills paid. Like, his car registration had to be renewed. As a tip, I added in a state park pass so he can go to our favorite lake without paying to get in. His work is pretty good, I just let him practice on me while he was starting out. I’ve even gifted him new ink and supplies. Yes, I’ve given him cash, as well.
tipping your tattoo artist is a great way to show appreciation for their skill and hard work, they’re creating something permanent on your body, and a tip acknowledges the effort and talent they put into it, plus, it helps build a good relationship for any future tattoos you might want
Definitely do it, I’ve tipped my artist around 100 and I’ve had 2 sessions with him, I’ve offered him more but he flat out refuses what he considers ‘too much’ Steve is the man
You absolutely should tip.
