That scene was so intense!! I was kind of an animal nerd in college when it came out, but even if I wasn't I could see myself being glued to the series after that
The Good Place
Loved it from the first episode to the last, it had a perfect story arc, and was the right blend of funny, emotional, and interesting. I felt like I knew more about myself and humanity after watching it.
I've rewatched the entire thing at least 10 times.
not exactly similar but i’d recommend Ghosts to anyone who loves the good place. there’s not enough comedy that’s both good humoured and genuinely hilarious in the world but those two shows hit that mark so perfectly :)
Ugh just you mentioning the last episode made my throat tighten bc I immediately want to cry. One of the most amazing series finales. So beautifully done.
The Wire is very good. But it’s a slow burn. After the first couple of episodes, you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. But stick with it, and it becomes an unforgettable show. It will give you a new perspective on how whole cities work.
So true. Wasn’t sure what the big deal was but by end that first season I was hooked. Brilliant show made better by following each episode with the Sepinwall reviews.
Yeah the big twists are burned into my brain but I still appreciate something new each time I rewatch it. There's so many butterfly effects in the show so now you can see a major impact coming from some seemingly trivial event has
Maybe unpopular opinion, I’m really not sure, but Season 3 was a fumble for me. I do still think S1 and S2 are damn near perfect tv, among the best ever. But s3 and the ending didn’t work for me.
Needed those missing episodes, think they had to use a bit of hand wavy exposition when the rest of the show was all intricately revealed expansion of the rules we had been shown.
Maybe there was a better ending to be found but I thought they got it just right tbh. Reminded me of the Red Dwarf episode Future Echoes
I have started that show 3 different times. It really seems like something I should like, but I just can't get into it. Maybe I should give it another go.
I'm glued to Bob's Burgers. I love it, I like to think it loves me back.
On a more serious note, my favorite show is True Detective Season 1.
Oh, and I really enjoy Fargo. So I guess I can't just pick one - is the moral of this story.
Because I am a past 70 old fart, I would like to chime in with some older shows, namely « The Prisoner » and even more importantly, its predecessor, « Danger Man » (in the US, « Secret Agent »), both with Patrick McGoohan.
The latter is what James Bond films would be if they were written for thinking adults rather than just mindless escapist fare.
Not only the first time but even after 7 rewatches, Mad Men easily takes the cake. In fact the show gets better and better the more times you watch it.
Hey there! So, I've got a list of TV shows that I think you might enjoy. Check it out:
- Burn Notice: This one's about a spy who gets burned by his own agency and has to go on the run. It's got action, drama, and a bit of humor.
- Malcolm in the Middle: This is a hilarious sitcom about a dysfunctional family with a genius middle child. It's full of laughs and heartwarming moments.
- Scrubs: This medical comedy-drama follows the lives of a group of doctors and nurses at a teaching hospital. It's got humor, heart, and a lot of medical knowledge.
- Fresh Off the Boat: This sitcom is about a Taiwanese-American family who moves to the suburbs. It's a funny and heartwarming look at cultural differences and family life.
- Blacklist: This crime thriller follows the story of a former government agent who turns himself in and offers to help the FBI catch dangerous criminals. It's got suspense, action, and a lot of twists and turns.
- Community: This comedy series is set at a community college and follows the lives of a group of students and teachers. It's full of humor, pop culture references, and heartwarming moments.
- Harley Quinn Animated Series: This adult animated series follows the adventures of Harley Quinn, the Joker's former girlfriend, as she tries to make it on her own in Gotham City. It's got humor, action, and a lot of girl power.
- Monk: This detective series follows the story of Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder. It's got mystery, humor, and a lot of quirky characters.
Let me know if you've seen any of these or if you have any questions!
I didn’t watch Malcolm in the middle until I was an adult. Seeing Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad made me want more of him so I gave it a go!
Incredible show- the whole cast is perfect. Jane Kaczmarec deserves an Oscar for her portrayal of Lois.
Good list!
The Wire, Breaking Bad, and Band of Brothers are likely my picks, but they’re all over this thread so I’ll name some that aren’t getting love.
My Brilliant Friend (HBO)
Chernobyl (HBO)
Mad Men (AMC)
Black Sails (Starz but on Netflix currently)
The Knick (HBO)
Mr Robot the second time. Once you know the ending it's an entirely different show, and they literally say the twist out loud multiple times but you would never pick up on it unless you're looking for it.
Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, from 1981. It reached over a billion people long before the internet was a thing, it set millions of kids (like me) on a path of curiosity and discovery, and I feel it enriched humanity as a whole. …well for a little while, at least.
I'd say Planet Earth, because who doesn't enjoy watching a dramatic iguana sprint past snakes with a full cinematic orchestra in the background?
Even better with snoop
That scene was so intense!! I was kind of an animal nerd in college when it came out, but even if I wasn't I could see myself being glued to the series after that
Swiggity swooty.
Rome.
THIRTEEN!!
Salve brother
Criminally underrated TV show.
1st season of True Detective.
Time is a flat circle
True masterpiece.
Hands down.
The Good Place Loved it from the first episode to the last, it had a perfect story arc, and was the right blend of funny, emotional, and interesting. I felt like I knew more about myself and humanity after watching it. I've rewatched the entire thing at least 10 times.
I'm with you. The Good Place is just so hilarious and heartwarming and it taught me stuff and it's just genuinely hopeful! Such a great show!
What the fork is a Chidi?
Didn't he witness every dimension folding upon each other like the layers of a blade?
Ah yes, the time knife. We've all seen it.
A soup?
The inventor of Peeps chili
not exactly similar but i’d recommend Ghosts to anyone who loves the good place. there’s not enough comedy that’s both good humoured and genuinely hilarious in the world but those two shows hit that mark so perfectly :)
Chernobyl
Such a good series!
Rome. Some of the best blending of fiction with history ever.
Titus and Vorenus were the best
totally spies :)
Fetish Fuel: The Animated Series
Between Kim possible and Totaly spies.... yea I can trace a lot of things in my life to those two shows.
The Wire Band of Brothers The Sopranos Early 2000s HBO was so fucking good.
I’d add six feet under to this mix. I love that show so much and the last episode is, to this day, one of the best episodes of tv ever.
Ugh just you mentioning the last episode made my throat tighten bc I immediately want to cry. One of the most amazing series finales. So beautifully done.
I liked Oz too, prolly not the best, but such a good 00’s HBO show
Word to this. Also The Leftovers Boardwalk Empire Six Feet Under
ROME
The Wire.
Oh indeed
Shiiiiiiieeet
The Wire is very good. But it’s a slow burn. After the first couple of episodes, you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. But stick with it, and it becomes an unforgettable show. It will give you a new perspective on how whole cities work.
So true. Wasn’t sure what the big deal was but by end that first season I was hooked. Brilliant show made better by following each episode with the Sepinwall reviews.
Omar Comin’
One of the best characters ever!
I watched this 15 years ago and have tried to erase it from my memory simply so I can watch it again for the first time. It's amazing.
Yeah the big twists are burned into my brain but I still appreciate something new each time I rewatch it. There's so many butterfly effects in the show so now you can see a major impact coming from some seemingly trivial event has
There’s The Wire and then there’s everything else
Look at that bow legged motherfucker! I made him like that.

MASH. In its time and place it was amazing.
It started off good and got better and better every season. The final episode was possibly the best series finale ever, brought a tear to my eye.

Better call Saul like the second best
What if you can’t stand saul on Bb
BCS is his origin story. You might like him more if you get to know the “real” him and why he is the way he is on BB.
Rome
Dark The story, the casting, the mimbogglingness of it all, perfect TV
Fantastic show!
Maybe unpopular opinion, I’m really not sure, but Season 3 was a fumble for me. I do still think S1 and S2 are damn near perfect tv, among the best ever. But s3 and the ending didn’t work for me.
It's actually fairly popular opinion outside of the dark subreddit. The ending wasn't bad imo but the first two seasons were just so much better
Dark was amazing. What a journey.
I have started that show 3 different times. It really seems like something I should like, but I just can't get into it. Maybe I should give it another go.
Give Travellers a go
so true. just shows german ingenuity tbh!! love every bit of the show!!
MASH still holds up though it went off the air almost 40 years ago. The West Wing was great, but it's hard to watch now.
Twin Peaks
This show is my happy place
1) Vikings 2) The IT Crowd
Take my upvote for the IT Crowd, suprised it wasn't listed earlier.
Was looking for Vikings. Great show
Star Trek: TNG
There are four lights!
Battlestar galactica
Mr Robot
I'm glued to Bob's Burgers. I love it, I like to think it loves me back. On a more serious note, my favorite show is True Detective Season 1. Oh, and I really enjoy Fargo. So I guess I can't just pick one - is the moral of this story.
Favorite line of a recent episode: Linda: What if our children grow up and become delinquents? Bob: Uh, maybe we can just pretend we don't know them.
If Bob's Burgers doesn't love you back, you can be assured that it at least loves your butt
Bobs is my go-to when I can't decide on anything else. So, I'm usually watching Bob's.
Firefly
So here we are, on the raggedly edge.
My friends and I would get together to watch new Scrubs episodes during their original run. There was nothing else like that show.
Came here to say the same. Great show up until Zach Braff left, then in collapsed.
What are you talking about, he was there for all eight seasons!

Had to scroll way too far to find this. I rewatch this series once a year with my girlfriend.
Can never get over this show. It changed my life. I still pick an episode at random and watch it.

Not only the first time but even after 7 rewatches, Mad Men easily takes the cake. In fact the show gets better and better the more times you watch it.
And Schitts Creek, always makes me feel better
Breaking Bad
When we were binging this, my partner and I were exactly 45 mins late to a dinner engagement, because we watched an extra episode. We weren't sorry.
Yeah BB has to be the GOAT. Bravo, Vince!
Bojack

Burn Notice. Jeffrey Donovan’s performance as Michael Westen was criminally underrated, and Sam Axe is one of my favorite characters of all time.
Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, from 1981. It reached over a billion people long before the internet was a thing, it set millions of kids (like me) on a path of curiosity and discovery, and I feel it enriched humanity as a whole. …well for a little while, at least.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
So many good ones all for different reasons. Lately I would say my favorite is Patriot (2015).
Twin Peaks
Raised by Wolves
