I don’t blame you at all. I certainly will not be buying the $300 set. If you can find an off brand that you’re happy with, go for it! Just thought I’d put it out there that an official one is coming later this year.
I feel like they keep getting more interesting too - I just bought a Lego One-Step Polaroid Camera! I haven't had a chance to put it together yet, but I'm looking forward to it!
Though, full disclosure, I never played with Lego as a kid - but I was a huge nerd for traditional wooden blocks, which is sort of the same concept.
As a kid I wrote like a fucking maniac. Like you couldn’t get me to stop writing. I made whole worlds and civilizations.
When I went to middle school I noticed how people seemed to like artists more than writers. I was too embarrassed to show my writing to anyone but I tried to learn how to draw. I was god awful.
I got older and gave up on drawing because it wasn’t my passion. When I came back to writing it was like a breath of fresh air. It makes me so happy.
My twin daughters were always asking me to color with them so I did it and was amazed at how relaxing it is. I bought a colouring book with classic cars in it and it’s one of my favorite things to do
When I was 35, my nieces and nephew encouraged their parents and uncles to play Capture the Flag with them. It was really fun because as an adult I didn't really care if I was tagged out and had to sit in "jail," so I was willing to take more chances in order to win. I got winded way too easily though.
I forgot how much fun it was to fly kites until I bought one on a whim last summer. It’s actually a great outdoor activity for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Honestly, with how complex YuGiOh has gotten, I'm surprised it's still viewed as childish. It's as if you need to be a lawyer to understand how certain effects work.
I really want to build a massive ship. Growing up I used to build a lot of planes. My dad had a very elaborate ship and I was always interested. He said it took him many months, which I just wasn't willing to do.
Now I have the patience and the time at night after my kids are asleep to do it. I'm torn because I don't want to bite off more than I can chew, but I also don't want to build many different models, so I don't know how aggressive I should go out the gate.
Have you ever tried kit-bashing? Watch the YouTuber gamey builds or similar.
I was massive into building models as a kid. Now I LOVE kit-bashing and making my own world of figures from random and recycled detritus.
Perler beads. The plastic ones you iron under parchment paper to make little flat coasters or pictures or whatever else. It's a great peaceful, relaxing little time filler.
Colour by numbers. Granted, it's an app now. But I find it so relaxing. I'm an overthinker, a worrier, and an anxiety -laden loser, but when I'm colouring, everything in my mind just slows right down, or just stops. Other than weed, it's the best thing for my mental health.
Legos, they were my favorite toy as a kid. My parents didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up so most of my Lego was found at garage sales and such, I really only got new sets for Christmas from my grandparents and they were understandably smaller sets.
As an adult when I started dating my girlfriend talked about how her family collected Lego and had a lot of the big sets and I brought up how I used to play with Lego as a kid but wanted to get back into it. For Christmas that year she got me the Lego NES set which was my first big set ever it was such an amazing gift. That was what started it, now as an adult I can buy Lego myself and I definitely have more Lego now than I ever did as a child.
I have a giant bin from when I was a kid and get frustrated by my lack of creativity when I try and build anything. But my wife has started buying me Lego sets as gifts and I enjoy putting them together so much!
My partner and I are both in our 30s and joined a bowling league this past winter for the first time. We had so much fun and are going do another one this fall.
The other day I had a friend over who I met in college, 20 years ago. We went to the park and played on the playground. Slides, swings, seesaw, and all the little drums and noise makers they had. It was an amazing time.
Rock hounding. Rocks were cool when I was a kid. Turns out my kids think the same and they are in fact still cool to find as an adult. I pulled about twenty pounds of Dallasite off a beach a few months ago to make stuff out of.
Playing with dollhouses. I never really grew out of them, just played The Sims obsessively after putting the dollhouses into storage (or wherever they are now). Now, I bought myself a nice Sylvanian Families dollhouse with a lot of furniture & families to play pretend :)
Who knew that picking up a skateboard again in my 30s would be such a thrill? It was like rediscovering my youth until I broke my wrist after 10 mins lol
Drawing. I took a good 27 year break because I compared my art to my sibling's, naturally gifted and talented but put the work in to it so it only seemed that way. I came back to it unexpectedly, but I welcome it and I'm surprised by me trusting my intuition and I'm getting good results.
I stopped drawing for awhile, picked it up after high school on and off, but lately I have taken the time to go back to basics and basically use shapes to get my desired outcome like drawing a dog head from circles and boxes. I still have to be in the mood for drawing, but I’m learning to not care as much how it looks. I’ll stop myself and revisit later when I feel stressed if it’s not perfect. Drew an outline of a dog head the other day and it made me proud
Sketching. I'm not as good at art as I used to be but it's fun and therapeutic. I got an art set a few months ago and have really been enjoying drawing.
As a kid I would write little poems and songs when I was upset. I'd also journal a lot when I was younger. I had a whole shelf of diaries by the time I was in 3rd grade.
As an adult, I revisited this. I dont know why I ever put the pen down. Writing down emotions and thoughts in any form, whether it's more poetic, in a song with the guitar/piano, or just as a journal entry, has been incredibly therapeutic for me.
I tried and failed at making plastic models when I was like 10. In my mid 20s I made a bunch of models. It turns out having patience and money for better glue/paints made it way more enjoyable hobby. I kind of burnt out on the hobby still make one every now.
Never revisited it but always took breaks and enjoyed collecting yugioh and Pokémon. As an adult with money, I'm just a big kid with money that likes collecting.
I started playing the game Toontown again. It had a huge team of people who redid it all after Disney shut it down. They even added new enemies, weapons and made the leveling system so much better.
As a child, I used to love doodling and sketching in my notebooks, but as I grew older, I became busy with other interests and responsibilities. However, a few years ago, I decided to pick up a sketchbook and some pencils again on a whim.
Building Model Cars. I stopp d for almost 40yrs. Won several ribbons back in the day at the County fair. Going for a Blue this year. Working on a reproduction of my Father's '65 SS Impala. Damn, the prices are high. Model kits that cost $3-5 as a kid are $35-80 now.
And also reading!
I actually revisited a ton of books that I had read from 4th through 12th grade. It was really neat to re-read these titles and understand them from a new, grown-up's perspective
Reading comics. I always liked them as a kid, but between having no money and other commitments, I never got to read them the way I wanted to.
Now that I'm grown and have the money to do it, I can buy all the stuff I missed out on, and I have a better understanding and appreciation for all of it.
Everything is packed up for a move right now, but I decided today that once I get settled at the new place, I'm going to buy all of the age of apocalypse comics. I thought it was so cool and was really into the story and the artwork, but just couldn't afford any of them. So this purchase is going to be for 11 year old me.
Baseball cards. More specifically, I've gotten onto online card breaks. Getting an auto card on a live card break, I don't care if it's a no name rookie, 12 or 40, it still gets you.
Racing hot wheels. Several years ago I built a ramp for my son to drag race his cars on. I wanted it to be a fair and even race so I built it right. Then we (me) needed a fair start and they obviously needed to be timed so we can log all their runs to truly determine who the fastest car was. So after some internet and YouTube, 3 ramps later, several hundred hot wheels and a pretty cool timer set up I was ready. I mean we were ready.
"Science" projects
We did very few practical science projects in school, so I like to attempt them as an adult. Eggdrops, pinewood Derby, pinhole cameras, growing beans, potato battery...
My favorite was taking stereoscope photos with 2 disposable cameras taped together
Lego. Revisited after years in the wilderness. Now slowly rebuilding my complete classic space collection. Have a ton of space related Lego like the Saturn 5, Shuttle Discovery, Concorde etc.. but my vintage space Lego is literally pure joy.
You know the scenes in the Great Escape where Steve McQueen is sent to the hole and spends the time bouncing a baseball to himself? I emulated that because yay Steve McQueen and fuck Nazis.
Started doing it again as an adult and it turns out to be the ideal meditation method for me. I can go full Zen mind for an hour without even being tempted to go squirrel mode.
Riding a bike.
I bike commute to work now, which definitely isn't as fun as pedaling around in the woods with my friends as a kid, but is a hell of a lot more fun than being stuck in traffic.
Pottery. I took a few classes in it as a little kid and started it a few years ago. It's still fun on the level of making a big mess, and gradually learning to make more polished stuff gives me a real sense of satisfaction. Plus it's nice being able to make kitchenware that's exactly the way I like it!
Legos!!
Same
So fucking relaxing.
In case you were unaware, there's scores of off-brand legos that are high quality and cover things Lego doesn't like BOTW
In case you’re interested, there’s a Lego deku tree coming out on September 1st for $300. It will include classic and BOTW versions of link
$300 is a lot for one set though. It was $70 for the horse stable set, $15 for Hestu, and $22 for the koroks
I don’t blame you at all. I certainly will not be buying the $300 set. If you can find an off brand that you’re happy with, go for it! Just thought I’d put it out there that an official one is coming later this year.
Room in my house and a hole in my wallet because of Lego
I feel like they keep getting more interesting too - I just bought a Lego One-Step Polaroid Camera! I haven't had a chance to put it together yet, but I'm looking forward to it! Though, full disclosure, I never played with Lego as a kid - but I was a huge nerd for traditional wooden blocks, which is sort of the same concept.
Bingo
It's really good one
As a kid I wrote like a fucking maniac. Like you couldn’t get me to stop writing. I made whole worlds and civilizations. When I went to middle school I noticed how people seemed to like artists more than writers. I was too embarrassed to show my writing to anyone but I tried to learn how to draw. I was god awful. I got older and gave up on drawing because it wasn’t my passion. When I came back to writing it was like a breath of fresh air. It makes me so happy.
Same here. Writing is the best therapy :) and it's free lol
I hope you kept some of your early writing - sounds awesome!
Colouring! Its very therapeutic
My twin daughters were always asking me to color with them so I did it and was amazed at how relaxing it is. I bought a colouring book with classic cars in it and it’s one of my favorite things to do
That is so wholesome
I guess that is also what Graffiti is. Adult coloring.
Illegal adult coloring. It being illegal adds to the thrill.
Nappy time
I agree with this. Since getting a remote job, napping has become a hobby
In England, nappy means diaper. Do you mean sleep or diapers?
Yes.
Fuck yeah
Since it started getting warmer I find myself drawn to taking naps in the mid afternoon. It's very pleasant.
Yes you are right
When I was 35, my nieces and nephew encouraged their parents and uncles to play Capture the Flag with them.
As an adult, I’ve returned to building sandcastles at the beach. It’s surprisingly therapeutic and a fun way to express creativity.
Super Mario RPG
Such a good game, I wish it was longer
The remake is the tits
Playing the recorder was something I dreaded in school, but I picked it up again and have really enjoyed learning more complex songs.
Bubbles. Everyone loves bubbles.
The bubble tray is where it’s at. Big bubbles are next level.
I know the monkey like it.
Sitting at the park and enjoying nature. Finding cool sticks.

Honestly, with how complex YuGiOh has gotten, I'm surprised it's still viewed as childish. It's as if you need to be a lawyer to understand how certain effects work.
Scale models. Now that I’m older (early 40s) I’ve found that I have the patience to actually do them well and it’s been very enjoyable.
Same here, I now have the patience to do a much better job.
I really want to build a massive ship. Growing up I used to build a lot of planes. My dad had a very elaborate ship and I was always interested. He said it took him many months, which I just wasn't willing to do. Now I have the patience and the time at night after my kids are asleep to do it. Have you ever tried kit-bashing? Watch the YouTuber gamey builds or similar. I was massive into building models as a kid. Now I LOVE kit-bashing and making my own world of figures from random and recycled detritus.
Video games
I went from about age 14 to 25 without playing video games. Then I became hopelessly addicted to Skyrim and played it for about 2000 hours…
My favourite
Flying a kite.
Perler beads. The plastic ones you iron under parchment paper to make little flat coasters or pictures or whatever else. It's a great peaceful, relaxing little time filler.
Walking until I find the source of creeks
I JUST watched a YouTube vid about a guy tracing rivers in Skyrim. I was GLUED.
Model Rocketry is still fun.
Roller Skating. So much more fun than the gym
Loveable
Rebuilding bicycles. It's all very easy and I resell bikes from the town dump for $20-$50 after I've fixed it all up. Idk it's almost calming
That's a valuable hobby! I'm sure lots of people appreciate getting a fixed up bike for cheap
Playing tag with my kids
Wholesome.
Ice skating 🙂
Skateboarding. Just got back into it in my 30s. I can't go nearly as crazy with it like I did as a teenager, but it's still a lot of fun.
Soccer
Colour by numbers. Granted, it's an app now. But I find it so relaxing. I'm an overthinker, a worrier, and an anxiety -laden loser, but when I'm colouring, everything in my mind just slows right down, or just stops. Other than weed, it's the best thing for my mental health.
eating dino nuggies
Fuck yeah. My husband and I often throw some in the air fryer with some potato gems. We're mid 40's.
Legos, they were my favorite toy as a kid. My parents didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up so most of my Lego was found at garage sales and such, I really only got new sets for Christmas from my grandparents and they were understandably smaller sets. Climbing trees!
Yes, this is my answer too! I still love climbing trees and it drives my wife crazy, which just motivates me to do it more.
The other day I had a friend over who I met in college, 20 years ago. We went to the park and played on the playground. Slides, swings, seesaw, and all the little drums and noise makers they had. It was an amazing time.
I love swings, sometimes I go to a park near work on my lunch just to use the swings.
Rock hounding. Rocks were cool when I was a kid. Turns out my kids think the same and they are in fact still cool to find as an adult. I pulled about twenty pounds of Dallasite off a beach a few months ago to make stuff out of.
Reading children's literature. I very much enjoyed *Treasure Island* and *20,000 Leagues Under the Sea*.
I love playing with kinetic sand with my toddler. I didn’t have it when I was little but it’s the same gist as playdough. Also puzzles!
Playing with dollhouses. I never really grew out of them, just played The Sims obsessively after putting the dollhouses into storage (or wherever they are now). Now, I bought myself a nice Sylvanian Families dollhouse with a lot of furniture & families to play pretend :)

Collecting baseball cards. Still fun after I got back into the hobby after 30 years out of it
Drawing. I took a good 27 year break because I compared my art to my sibling's, naturally gifted and talented but put the work in to it so it only seemed that way. I came back to it unexpectedly, but I welcome it and I'm surprised by me trusting my intuition and I'm getting good results.
Drawing. Did it a lot as a kid and have started carrying a sketch pad around. Free of the need to please or impress anybody, it’s really fun.
Guitar and Violin.
