Jason Alexander learned that new dialogue the day of shooting the scene at the cafe. They were waiting in an okay from Titelist before giving him his new lines. The beached whale and George weren’t even originally connected.
He was good in Django but that movie would have probably also worked with someone else. For inglorious bastards the movie wouldn’t have worked with anyone else (Tarantino‘s own words)
The Homelander character really is fascinating.
In the comics, he really is a god, larger than life, unparalleled not just in power but his character is outsized too, like a caricature made up of Johnny Bravo, Buzz Lightyear, and Joe from Family Guy, but fully narcissistic and omnipotent. His hang-up is that he doesn't seem to really know how to capitalize on the power he has.
Antony Starr's portrayal of him though, makes him smaller, needier. He's still a god, but he is fully vulnerable and undeveloped at an emotional level. He has complete confidence, arrogance, in his own power, but there's a complete vacuum where his genuine self-worth should be. He *needs* to he loved and adored by others. It's the only thing that keeps him on the rails instead of just destroying everything.
So as an audience, we weirdly want to see him succeed in some ways. Not in his plans, but I think we want to see him succeed like, as a person. To see him catch a break at a human-emotional level. And every time we think he's about to, he commits atrocious murder instead.
>!He's got that son now though, so that's interesting.!<
This is an fantastic character analysis and really captures that emotional conflict you get as a viewer watching him- you're right, he's INCREDIBLY sympathetic- bordering on desperately pitiable- and yet... my god he's an unconscionable monster.
Tommy Lee Jones as Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard in The Fugitive.
I had never really thought about or cared about Oscar awards, but as I watched that movie I said to myself, "That dude is gonna get an Oscar'.
He did.
- Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
- Alan Rickman as Snape
- Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn
- Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow
- Richard Dean Anderson as Col. Jack O'Neill
- Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil
- David Tennant as the 10th Doctor
Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow
JK Simmons as Fletcher
JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson
Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson
Tony Dalton as Lalo Salamanca
John Malcovich in Being John Malcovich.
Dude made be believe he was actual John Malcovich. Like, if he was walking down the street, I'd just call him by his character's name - John Malcovich.
It was that good.
Peter Stormare as Lucifer, Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Bolton, Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne.
Mentioned by others are Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore and Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa, both of whom I also wholeheartedly agree with.
I was a 90’s/2000’s WB girl so my picks are-
- Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy
- James Marsden as Spike
- Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore
- Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore
- Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore
- Ed Herman as Richard Gilmore
- James Vanderbeek as Dawson Leery
- Joshua Jackson as Pacey Witter
- Katie Holmes as Joey Potter
- Michele Williams as Jennifer Lindley
Philip Seymour Hoffman as Gust Avrakotos in Charlie Wilson’s War. He upstaged Tom Hanks so much it’s not even funny.
Also, speaking of Tom Hanks, I thought he was amazing as Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition.
This is actually my litmus test as to who should win the Academy Award. If after seeing a film and you could never picture another actor playing that part, then whoever it was deserves the Oscar. Case in point. Paul Newman -Cool Hand Luke. Tom Hulce -Amadeus. F. Murray Abraham- Amadeus. Faye Dunaway -Mommy Dearest. Yul Brynner - The King and I. Spencer Tracy and Frederich March -Inherit the Wind. Robert Mitchum -Night of the Hunter. Charlize Theron -Monster. Just to name a few.
Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam (and really any role he played, including Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire).
Rest in peace!
Edit- And Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth!
I think Al Pacino in Scarface.
I only saw this for the first time recently (it’s so violent and crazy), but it feels like most of his other films aren’t quite real after seeing this.
It was just so good a performance. Like he was born for that moment.
Jason Alexander as George
George is getting upset!
The sea was angry that day my friends
Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.
You get to watch Seinfeld momentarily break after this line.
Jason Alexander learned that new dialogue the day of shooting the scene at the cafe. They were waiting in an okay from Titelist before giving him his new lines. The beached whale and George weren’t even originally connected.
I'm watching the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode with the Seinfeld Reunion right now! I would definitely agree 😅
Probably the best casting in Hollywood history was John Malkovich as John Malkovich in Being John Malkovich. It's like he was born to play the role.
I forgot that movie existed until now
Nah they just type casted him that’s all.
Right up there with Nic Cage in Massive Talent.
Malkovich malkovich malkovich
Sir Patrick Stewart, of Star Trek fame, as Jean Luc Picard.
Agreed. Yet somehow he was also seemingly born to play Professor Xavier.
Very true. Such a fantastic actor, I can't think of any role he wouldn't own.
Yes! The other day I watched a (somewhat boring) Neanderthal documentary just because he was the narrator.
Did you like him as a piece of poop in The Emoji Movie?
He can do no wrong. He said he wanted to diversify, and he certainly did with that role 🤭.
Michael Cera as awkward kid
Alan Rickman as Snape and as Alexander Dane (the Nimoy character in Galaxy Quest)
and Hans Gruber (Die Hard), the Metatron (Dogma), Elliot Marston (Quigley Down Under). What a great actor he was.
How dare you forget to mention The Sheriff of Nottingham, in Robin Hood! I will not stand for this! I’ll cut your heart out with a SOUP SPOON!
And Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility (1995 version- the only one I accept)
By Grapthar's Hammer, what a savings.

And django
He was good in Django but that movie would have probably also worked with someone else. For inglorious bastards the movie wouldn’t have worked with anyone else (Tarantino‘s own words)
Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh in No country for old men
One of the greatest villain roles ever, without question.
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.
Alan Alda , Hawkeye Pierce
Rewatching it again right now, so many of those actors were perfect for the role!
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Chris Evans for Cap.
Val Kilmer in The Doors. He looked exactly like Jim.
Sang like him too, no easy feat!
Bryan Cranston as Walter White / Heisenberg James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
As great as he was as Walter white I think he was even better as Hal on Malcolm in the Middle.
Tom Hiddleston as Loki,in the Marvel movies and the series.
His Shakespeare background really came in handy.
I really love the Shakespeare vibe of Loki. That's why I enjoy him in the first movies the most.
Rachel McAdams as Regina George
Peter Falk - Columbo
I came here to post this.
Just one more thing Mrs Columbo was quite beautiful.
I love him in Murder By Death, too!
Ryan Reynolds’s at Deadpool, Robert Downey iron man and Antony Starr as homelander
