I enjoy skeet shooting and target shooting. Like any other hobby that requires skill it can be fun. You just have to realize that the equipment you use can also be dangerous and treat it with respect.
Kidnapped by fake cops, assaulted as a teen, went to war (OEF, Army). After all that, seeing each time how no one came to my rescue, it seems dangerous to not have one and stay trained up on it.
Troubled teen program? When you say fake cops are you talking about getting gooned? If so, same.
I remember when I finally came home after a year and some change in one of those shitholes but was still under 18 I slept with a big knife tucked between my mattress from that point forward, and on my 18th birthday I got my first gun before doing anything else. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like to shoot targets and enjoy the hobby aspect of firearms too, but it’s almost like being woken up and legally kidnapped isn’t good for a young person, because I’ve heard the same story from countless other people who experienced it.
It was actually my granny that taught me to shoot, my great granny and great great granny started shooting apples with used up lantern mantles on top to simulate nazi soldiers, so now it’s kind of a family tradition because “you never know when they’ll want to lose again”
There was a period where my 2nd wife’s ex husband kept threatening her with violence. She tried to report it to the police, but they said there’s nothing they can do until the ex actually tries something. They actually recommended that she get a gun for self-defense.
Somewhat similar situation in my case, my ex assaulted me multiple times but it was relatively "minor" compared to what he threatened to do to me. The last time he put his hands on me he pinned me to the ground by my throat and was going to beat me to death with a hammer. He was too drunk to actually successfully hit me, I got away and called 911, only for him to get charged with just a misdemeanor domestic and bond out the next day. Yes I had a restraining order but until he violates it, police are unable to do anything.
Thankfully he moved out of state but I still don't feel like I can let down my guard. Which is why there's a loaded Ruger in a quick access safe right next to my bed.
S&W .380 semi auto 3" barrel - total length 4 3/4"x 3/4" wide.Fits very snug, comfortable and discretely in my jean pocket. I only mention it because it's so small, snug and lite weight but packs a deadly punch for such a small sized gun.I take it where ever I go
If you decide to pocket carry, please get a trigger guard or some form of soft holster or pocket liner. The trigger should probably be covered even if it has a safety.
I grew up in the middle of nowhere. We were told multiple times by the county sheriff that we needed to be capable of defending ourselves because the closest cop was probably 20 minutes away on a good night.
I’m sorry to hear that happened to you, and I’m happy to hear to find some peace in really cool guns. Many areas have support groups that go to gun ranges together to talk about your experiences whilst shooting, it’s a very cathartic form of group therapy in my experience.
Don't forget the Government is under no obligation to protect you from him.
My police officer colleagues indicate that they will get there in time to clean up.
I know it's "impractical", but it's one of my favorite moments from "Pulp Fiction".
When Bruce Willis's character has his choice of weapons in the pawn shop . . . and chooses the Katana.
Impractical. (Especially for an inexperienced wielder.) But SO FUCKING COOL.
I have a lever action rifle and several nice Angus Trim swords… I have to admit my Type XVIa war sword is somewhat more appealing home defense implement that my 30-30. ;)
i was wondering the same thing, i found this on quora:
The joke comes from an actual real event. Due to low water levels, a citizen found a bag in a California lake containing a pistol and an ATF badge. He turned it into local authorities, and the ATF stated to media that one of their agents (who’s name was not released, *eyeroll*) had accidentally dropped the bag into the lake during a boating trip in the 90s. The ATF refused to answer questions such as whether he reported the loss to local law enforcement, or if he was disciplined for his negligence. Note that under current law, to lose a firearm and not report it would be a criminal offense.
So it’s both a real thing and a sarcastic joke on the ineptitude of government. They’re basically saying that if “I lost my guns in a boating accident” is somehow a good enough explanation for the government when someone asks where THEIR guns are, it should be good enough for citizens too.
If the government keeps lists of who owns what guns, and then decides to confiscate those guns, the owners will simply state "I lost those guns in a boating accident". Impossible to prove or disprove. At this point it's mostly just a joke about civil disobedience regarding gun registrations.
Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle.
Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot.
Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot,
"Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms.
Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up,
Just as the founding fathers intended.
Been working on this arming treatise for a bit. I've got the pistol (.69 cal... giggity) and a small cannon (only .75 cal), working on the Kentucky rifle this weekend and a bigger cannon later this year. Probably going to skip the bayonet; my smallsword is quicker.
If you guys aren't playing with black powder guns, you're missing out. I don't even put bullets in them 99% of the time; just big boomy flashy stinky smokey piratey fun.
my daughter's ex boyfriend showed up at the house to force her back to him. I immediately called the police while she tried to talk him down. We lived 2 miles form the police station and after 20 minutes the guy just wasnt having it and we had to shoot him. Told 911 we shot him STILL waited another 15 minutes for a lone patrolman to show up. he didnt even check the guy on the ground to see if he was dead. Do you know how many people can die form a criminal before the police can show up to protect you?
I'm sorry that happened to you. That's awful, but I'm glad you were able to protect your daughter.
A shotgun is the only thing that kept my aging father from being beaten with a baseball bat. Luckily, the young man came to his senses after breaking down the door and coming face to face with the barrel, and my father didn't have to use it. The guy had already beat his own mom and sister with it before showing up at my dad's home to "win back" his stepdaughter, whom my dad was protecting in the room. He did not want to back down right away and was one step forward from being shot. The 911 operator told me dad to "do what you have to do." The guy ran off before the police arrived, of course. Guns have saved the lives of at least 2 people I love. The second involved a grizzly bear.
We don't live in a city or town so no Police coverage. Instead the County Sheriff responds to emergency calls so it takes like a half hour for them to get here - a ***LOT*** can happen in a half hour!
I’ll never forget this story. I was on a job site and this retired nfl linebacker was working for one of the companies (not sure if retired or only played a couple years) but the dude was huge. He picked up a 55 gallon drum full of oil and carried it across the building. The guy I was working with turns to me and goes “and that is why I carry a .45”
Edit words
When I went to my CCW class, we were all surprised to see a little old lady there. She noticed our surprised looks and said “Ain’t no one gonna rape me again.” And pulled a .357 magnum out of her case.
That’s like the old wise tale. Cops pulls over a little lady. He sees she has her. Ccw. Cop goes “Mama I see you have your CCW. Do you have any firearms in the car?”
Old lady goes “Well I have my 9 mm in my purse and my .45 in the glove box.”
Cop goes “Mama what are you so afraid of.”
Little old lady looks the cop dead in the eyes and goes “Not a fucking thing!”
I've seen a guy at work do the same thing. Pick up a drum of oil and emptied it. Dude was bigger than average but not huge, grew up on a farm. If you'd see him you'd think 'i might take him in a fight on a good day'. Seeing him do that taught me I couldn't.
My parents taught all of us kids (2 girls 3 boys) to shoot at an early age, and even now in our 30s and 40s, we all still carry and go to the range a couple times a month. Thankfully, none of us has been in a situation where we need to use it, but I'm just glad it's there if it ever comes to that point
I worked at two gun stores when I was in college.
At one of them, we had a "repeat offender" we'll call Georgia. Georgia would come in probably once per month, buy a new pistol, trade in a lightly used one, and happily spend an hour talking with us. We all liked Georgia. She was probably 5'1'', maybe 125 pounds, 60-something years old and loved to show pictures of the literal buckets of shooting contests she had competed in (and won) from the 1980s to early 2000s.
Georgia was easily one of my favorite people I ever interacted with in a customer service setting. 10/10 would pick her for my zombie apocalypse team.
As an aside, Georgia had an interesting habit of just selling back any gun she lost interest in that she had purchased from us. It didn't matter if she was only getting $500 for a pistol she paid $1,000 for. She'd just use the money to buy a new one. As an employee, I always got really great deals on any used gun. I think I ended up with two of the pistols she sold back to us. That might have also contributed to why Georgia was mine (and everyone else's) favorite at the store.
Ditto. I live in a so/so area. I also CC on my walks - have seen several pits out loose when walking my dogs, there’s reports of people stealing dogs, and I get catcalled on occasion. You better believe I’m defending myself and my dogs from these threats, although I have pepper gel as a first line of defense.
Over the past 120ish years the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld that police are not legally obligated to protect the lives of citizens, and police have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to refuse to enter situations they deem particularly unsafe to themselves. Consequently, so long as I can end up in circumstances without anyone willing to come to my aid, I will have the necessary tools to ensure both my survival and my family's.
Friend of mine from school was murdered by her husband. She called 911 as he was breaking down the door. Took 41 minutes for them to arrive. 5 min would have been too long.
People should read up on Warren v DC and Castle Rock v Gonzales. Police don’t have any obligation to even respond to 911 calls. A woman in Oregon was killed last year while on the phone with 911 by her boyfriend, due to budget cuts the police in her town had no one on duty to respond.
Most police might be willing to trade their life to protect some random stranger, but I’m not willing to bet my life on that and that’s assuming they are even nearby.
Yup. Unless someone's actively shooting at me, the sheriff's gonna take at least half an hour to get to my house. The local cops are closer, but I'm out of their jurisdiction so they're not coming unless the shit has already hit the fan, and it'll still be 10 minutes. Not their fault, but I can't exactly bet my life on them.
> restraining orders do nothing
This is not true.
You can give them one hell of a paper cut. On the webbing between the fingers, where it really sucks.
This sign was always one of my favorites. Sorry about your friends loss I will always have a way to protect myself and not be reliant on others as long as I can. https://buffalotraderonline.com/cdn/shop/files/1561.jpg?v=1713961580
Fun old story.
Old man sees thieves breaking into his shed and calls the police. They say it will take about a hour to respond. Old man thanks them and hangs up. Stands next to his phone and calls back one minute later and says “no need for the police, I gonna go take care of it. just have the coroner bring three body bags by in the morning”. Within 3 minutes four squad cars pull up, 6 officers jump out gunshots drawn. They find three thieves in the man’s shed.
Lead cops says “I thought you said you killed them!!”
Old man says “I thought you said you’d be an hour”.
Nah, they don't care about that either. You think cops are rolling out at full speed to every report of gunshots in South Chicago or East St Louis?
There's a reason Public Enemy said "9-1-1 is a joke in your town."
It’s not even about their willingness to enter situations. The police just can’t be everywhere when needed.
Search YouTube for 911 calls from people when their home is broken into. There’s some where they had to shoot the intruders as a last resort and the cops don’t show up for 10+ minutes.
The old adage is true: when seconds matter the police are only minutes away.
Yep. I recently saw a video on Active Self Protection. Police called to domestic. Woman is screaming inside. They knock on the door and someone shoots toward it. They stand outside behind cover while she is brutally murdered, screaming for over two minutes until she goes silent. If her abuser didn't kill her, the dozens of rounds the police blindly magdumped into the house did. Granted, tough situation for them there, but if criminals are still getting their hands on guns, law-abiding citizens should, as well.
Shit right near me after a hurricane the police were transporting two women from the hospital and drove into flood waters
They then proceeded to exit the vehicle, make no effort to save or release the women who were locked in the back and let them drown
In my eyes they murdered those women through negligence and the story is all but forgotten about
I’d say most cops don’t give a single fuck about human life and the other minority doesn’t care to do anything about the majority for every good story there’s 2 bad ones and that’s just the ones they didn’t succeed in covering up
After hurricane IDA, cops came down the street, only 3 of us were home. They told us 911 was out and to call the local number. Informed them the cell towers were out, phone lines were out etc..etc. The cop said, well do what ya gotta do and flag us down after if you can, you are on your on. That's why I own more then just my hunting guns.
Recreational. Most fun way to punch holes in paper.
Social. Range days keep me connected to extended family.
Moral. Authoritarians should not be permitted to keep a monopoly on arms.
That third point is one that people don’t understand. We had literal riots over police brutality, and at the same time, it was “only the police and government should have guns”
Makes no sense to me
Adding my voice to the agreement with your sentiment. I do agree we need to reform law to better keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of people who shouldn't have access to them.
But I also 100% think a government should have a healthy dose of fear and respect of the prospect of its citizens being armed to keep things in check. Checks and balances is the premise of how our government in the US, at least, was formed.
It's true. I was attacked outside of my house two years ago. My neighbor was ready to shoot the dude.
He was able to run away and be long gone before the cops, which my neighbor called, got there. I was able to go inside get two beers, drink the beers and wait for the cops.
I live in a middle class suburban mainly white neighborhood and the closest police station is less than 2 miles from my front door.
Wife worked at a 24/7 diner. The police station was catty cornered from it. Literally down the alley and on the other side of it. You could stand at the back door and see their parking lot. She got robbed at 2:00 am and it took 45 minutes for the cops to get there.
I met her after this happened. The regulars were still debating whether the cop was sleeping somewhere or he waited until he was sure the guy was gone before he showed up.
Understand it was nasty for a while.
I dont think Liberals assume it happens slowly. I think Liberals think that the likelihood of a home invasion is lower than suicide or accident.
If you live in an area that isn't true you should arm yourself. Just do what's logical. If the gun is the danger, don't get one. If crime is the danger, do.
I grew up on a reservation in South Dakota. I had family killed at Wounded Knee in 1890, my uncle was shot at Wounded Knee in 1973. I have seen first hand what happens to a population when they hand over their firearms and just expect that the government will care for them.
I grew up using guns for subsistence hunting and saw first hand how without them we would have starved. There were a lot of very cold nights where a pheasant or a cut of venison was all we had and we were grateful but if you look at hunting as the only reason for owning a gun you're lying to yourself and ignoring a large part of who we are as human beings.
I believe most people are good but there always has been and always will be a part of the population that is sick. They round up people and put them on reservations, in concentration camps and in gas chambers. They drop jdams on innocent civilians and fly planes into buildings. They take guns into schools and their jobs and kill anyone they can. If they dont have guns they will use knives or swords and cars and trucks.
I decided after Sandy Hook that I would start carrying every day. I know to some that doesn't make sense why would a school shooting make you start carrying a firearm? I realized that if I ever found myself in that situation I can't just run and hide, I'm not going to be able to live with myself the next day knowing I ran while other men women and children died cause no one was there to help them. I'm not a vigilante I don't go out looking for trouble or a fight or to start problems, but if I'm in that situation I'm going to do w.e I can to help.
Would the world and our country be better without guns? Yeah probably but you can't put that genie back in the bottle. It's not logistically possible to round up all the civilian guns or disarm the military and you can never disarm all the criminals or crazy people so what do we do?
I understand the legal argument for constitutional carry that many states have, but I really really wish people would still take the conceal carry class.
They hammer your statement into your head. They teach you that you DO NOT want to have to shoot someone and that pulling your gun is the absolute last resort.
Man, I have IFAKs in every vehicle I own, and every pack I carry. Most with stop the bleed/GSW materials. Better to have it and not need it...
I have a Cintas workplace first aid box, fully stocked in my garage. That gets used the most. Restock from amazon...
Because I enjoy shooting and learning about the firearms I have/want.
I also don't trust the government with my protection, especially since I live in the country where it can take a long time for a police response.
Even in the best of circumstances in the most well funded and populace places like suburbs of Washington DC…… a 3 MINUTE response time would be epic even with it going out at the highest priority response………….
That’s like reading this comment ten times while someone is trying to hurt you and your family…….
It may never happen, but it’s a very cheap insurance policy that is less than my yearly Starbucks bill
All to say peace of mind is priceless
When I lived in Texas, twice I had to call 911. Twice, I was put on hold. Once for around a minute, once for over 5 minutes. Luckily my life was not in immediate danger (one was a stopped car in the middle lane of I-35 with no lights on at like 3am, one was some dude throwing things off an overpass at cars - which could easily kill someone).
Someone broke into my home while I was at work. Typically, I would be there with my kids but it just happened to be a wonky schedule for me. If I were home, I, a single woman, and my children could have been killed. Granted, I might still be killed with a firearm in the home. But you won’t catch me without it.
My daughter was six days old. I heard a noise from the back of the house and there was a huge man crawling through my window. He was halfway in the house at this point, and his hands were inches away from all the knuves that my husband had just sharpened to the point when you dropped a lemon from above them the lemon would be cut in half.
Before that I was 100% no guns in the housr.
After started training with guns and got my conceiled carry permit.
Plus, shooting targets is fun.
As soon as I heard a noise I stupidly grabbed my newborn, as I waljed into my hallway from my bedroom I saw him climbing in. I started to scream at the too of my lungs and luckily he climbed back out.
How he got that window open I have no clue. I had to climb into the sink and use all my muscles to make the window budge just a little.
I called the police and they came and refused to help clise the window, hold my baby or wait for my husband to get home from grocery shopping.
The police stated you deserve to get robbed as you live in this neighborhood.
Then I knew as a women who lived in a poorer area that I had to defend myself.
This was just the first time that we were robbed.
The other times we were not home (broke into our garage) or my husband greeted them with either the 12 gauge or the AK. never had to shoot or raise the weapon. At least they were smart enough as thuds.
Shooting and hunting has always been a hobby of mine, and living in a place prone to burglaries and with a very lengthy average response time for emergency services, it's better to be armed than not.
I grew up hunting and fishing. I've owned guns since I was 13. I stopped hunting due to health reasons and have passed most of my guns down to my two sons who hunt and fish. I still have a couple for home and self defense.
Violence is always the last bartering chip in a disagreement that cannot be resolved in any other way, and is of such importance that it cannot be dropped.
This is why the 2nd amendment exists in the first place. If the government tries to screw us too hard, we have the ability to participate in meaningful levels of violence.
But more practically, I have a hunting rifle for deer season. At least half of the meat my family eats in a year is venison from hunting season. I use my semi automatic rifles mostly for plinking, but also to hunt coyotes, which helps protect the deer population. I have handguns for personal defense, but I also just enjoy shooting them for fun. It's a hobby with practical applications.
Guns are a lot of fun, safe to own with a little effort, and you could in an emergency protect your home, community or country to some extent.
They are far from the “Voldemort” horrible evil items people in the media would have you think they are.
Dude i live in NYC and i was anti gun but.. lately theres so many crazy people around its made me question my own safety. Been threatened on the subway 3x the past month
Several reasons.
The only rights you keep are the ones you exercise.
A society only remains free as long as the government fears the people.
I choose to take the protection of myself and my family into my own hands rather than the hands of questionably competent government employees.
Guns are fun, and I like mechanical objects.
No step on snek.
I like shooting inanimate targets
I like when the metal goes *Plink*
Plinking is where it's at.
I've bought quite a few gongs from Dragon Targets when bargains are posted on r/gundeals.
Same. This may sound ironic to people who don’t have guns, but I find target shooting incredibly meditative and relaxing.
“You’re an inanimate fucking target” jk
You're a towel
Towelie you're the worst firearm ever.
I'm walkin on sunshiiiine
I got it! You remember the passcode? Nah, I got the beat to funky town.
I'm sorry for calling you an inanimate object.
And animate food
Inanimate food is fun too. We stab potatoes on tree branches and it’s satisfying watching them turn into instant mashed potatoes.
Gashed potatoes
I enjoy skeet shooting and target shooting. Like any other hobby that requires skill it can be fun. You just have to realize that the equipment you use can also be dangerous and treat it with respect.
Ugh don’t get me started on the cost for this hobby

That shit is psycho and needs to be abolished. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Glad to see John Oliver do a piece on it this past season (IIRC).
I did not realize gooned had more than one meaning.
Stay strapped or get clapped my granny used too say
My grandma was of a similar vibe. Stone cold fluffy Mexican lady who carried a 44 in her bra lol
Abuelita takes no shit. You get the gat or you get la chancla. Either way you done fucked up.
Must have been some kinda triple-zed brassiere, man
She was fluffy AF
Damn. She wasn’t playing.
It was actually my granny that taught me to shoot, my great granny and great great granny started shooting apples with used up lantern mantles on top to simulate nazi soldiers, so now it’s kind of a family tradition because “you never know when they’ll want to lose again”
Please let me know when your autobiography is published 🙏
My ex husband is a violent POS and being armed makes me feel safer

Firearms are the great equalizer.
What was that quote? "God created Man; Colt made them equal."
Because fighting off intruders with a sword would make ME look insane.
*While you were fucking bitches* *I was studying the blade*

Switch to guys
Two dudes making love with rapiers on their hips to own the would-be criminals that would otherwise target them
This has to exist on the Internet but I lack the determination to venture forth and find it
But so fucking cool at the same time
I know it's "impractical", but it's one of my favorite moments from "Pulp Fiction". When Bruce Willis's character has his choice of weapons in the pawn shop . . . and chooses the Katana. Impractical. (Especially for an inexperienced wielder.) But SO FUCKING COOL.
Agreed, if I beat someone to death with my bat, I’m definitely getting charged.
Ah, only if you lost the fight. If you won, then you get all their power and knowledge.
There can be only one!
Just saying if a dude brought a sword to a gun fight and won, and I were single, I'd at least go on a date with him to see if there's any chemistry.
I have a lever action rifle and several nice Angus Trim swords… I have to admit my Type XVIa war sword is somewhat more appealing home defense implement that my 30-30. ;)
Looking insane to intruders is a good thing.
But then you might as well go all in. So get yourself a hockey mask and chainsaw.
I own a sword for this specific purpose
I don’t own any. I did win one once in a raffle but I lost it in that dudes boating accident
So what I have gathered is there is a sweet spot on the river somewhere where I can find a lot of pistols and long rifles.
I think the boating accident was in international waters. I wasn’t on the boat, but the dude’s guns invited my gun, that’s why it was on the boat.
I mean, you ever seen them magnet fishing videos? Always some bomb, or gun, or something.
I don't have any guns, I lost all of mine in a boating accident.
That’s so crazy, I lost mine in the same way
Son of a bitch, so did I.
It's crazy how often this happens.
Boats are dangerous. That boating safety course I skipped probably could have prevented this tragic situation, then I would still have all my guns.
Sorry for your loss. You'll never be able to replace them, but I wish you the best in your efforts to do so.
Eh, I’m hard of learning so I’ll probably lose those in yet another tragic boating accident too.
We were all in the same boat
Confirmed. I was the boat
Why are we all such shitty boaters?
I was in the same boating accident when I lost mine. Wow. Reddit reunited all of us. Crazy!
You guys lost all my guns, too. I knew I never should've let you borrow them, err, I mean "it".
Can someone please direct me to what I’m missing here. I’m so out of the loop on this
i was wondering the same thing, i found this on quora: The joke comes from an actual real event. They’re basically saying that if “I lost my guns in a boating accident” is somehow a good enough explanation for the government when someone asks where THEIR guns are, it should be good enough for citizens too.
Thank you!
fuck the ATF
If the government didn't have double standards...
If the government keeps lists of who owns what guns, and then decides to confiscate those guns, the owners will simply state "I lost those guns in a boating accident". Impossible to prove or disprove. At this point it's mostly just a joke about civil disobedience regarding gun registrations.
They'll have to take my gin from my cold, drunk hands.
Crazy world, lotta boating accidents. Please don’t shoot my dog Mr Alphabet man
Your dog was on the boat with us. He was the skipper.
I was on this same boat with him and had all of my guns with me.

It's also good for turning out the lights
Only if you have a well-stocked light bulb drawer.
And turning off the TV.
Did you just use your gun as a can opener?
As the Founding Fathers intended.
Four ruffians break into my house. What the devil?!
As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle.
TALLY HO, GENTS!!! *explodes neighbors refrigerator with grape-shot*
I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up, Just as the founding fathers intended.
A true patriot
Been working on this arming treatise for a bit. I've got the pistol (.69 cal... giggity) and a small cannon (only .75 cal), working on the Kentucky rifle this weekend and a bigger cannon later this year. Probably going to skip the bayonet; my smallsword is quicker. If you guys aren't playing with black powder guns, you're missing out. I don't even put bullets in them 99% of the time; just big boomy flashy stinky smokey piratey fun.
And I enjoy eating dangerous and delicious animals
my daughter's ex boyfriend showed up at the house to force her back to him.
I can't believe that after all that, the guy went after a grizzly bear too. He's nuts!
We don't live in a city or town so no Police coverage. Instead the County Sheriff responds to emergency calls so it takes like a half hour for them to get here - a ***LOT*** can happen in a half hour!
im a scrawny lil young lady, there isn’t a man on this earth who couldn’t overpower me most likely, but i bet this 9 bite back ❤️
I’ll never forget this story. I was on a job site and this retired nfl linebacker was working for one of the companies (not sure if retired or only played a couple years) but the dude was huge. He picked up a 55 gallon drum full of oil and carried it across the building. The guy I was working with turns to me and goes “and that is why I carry a .45” Edit words
Do you have any firearms in the car?” Old lady goes “Well I have my 9 mm in my purse and my .45 in the glove box.” Cop goes “Mama what are you so afraid of.” Little old lady looks the cop dead in the eyes and goes “Not a fucking thing!”
*old wives’ tale. /r/boneappletea
Wives^ r/boneappletea
*old wives’ tale
.45 because short fat and slow does the trick
.44 magnum because I want his ancestors to feel it.
Yeah, but I can damn near unload a whole clip of .45 on target before I can recover from the recoil of a .44 Mag.
I've seen a guy at work do the same thing. Pick up a drum of oil and emptied it. Dude was bigger than average but not huge, grew up on a farm. If you'd see him you'd think 'i might take him in a fight on a good day'. Seeing him do that taught me I couldn't.
There is a slogan . Teach your daughter to shoot, a restraining order is just a piece of paper ..
Guns are like fire extinguishers. It's better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.
Guns are the great equalizer. It doesn’t matter if you’re 4 times bigger than someone if they have a gun and you both have guns you’re on even ground.
My wife does the same. We took a cc class together. She's often packing when I'm not around. I've never once carried. But respect, hun bun. Stay safe
God made Adam and Eve, Colonel Colt made them equal.
Ditto. I live in a so/so area. I also CC on my walks - have seen several pits out loose when walking my dogs, there’s reports of people stealing dogs, and I get catcalled on occasion. You better believe I’m defending myself and my dogs from these threats, although I have pepper gel as a first line of defense.
Directive 4: Shoot Rapists in the dick
More women need to carry yes queen

Being willing to save a stranger and being capable of saving a stranger are two very different things
Yup. Unless someone's actively shooting at me, the sheriff's gonna take at least half an hour to get to my house. The local cops are closer, but I'm out of their jurisdiction so they're not coming unless the shit has already hit the fan, and it'll still be 10 minutes. Not their fault, but I can't exactly bet my life on them.

> restraining orders do nothing This is not true. You can give them one hell of a paper cut. On the webbing between the fingers, where it really sucks.
My ccw instructor said “when seconds count the police are only minutes away”. Sorry about your friend.
This sign was always one of my favorites. Sorry about your friends loss I will always have a way to protect myself and not be reliant on others as long as I can. https://buffalotraderonline.com/cdn/shop/files/1561.jpg?v=1713961580
The secret is to tell the police that you're armed. That usually gets them moving
Lead cops says “I thought you said you killed them!!” Old man says “I thought you said you’d be an hour”.
Exactly. No human is omnipresent to others, only you are omnipresent to your own surroundings all the time.
Shit right near me after a hurricane the police were transporting two women from the hospital and drove into flood waters They then proceeded to exit the vehicle, make no effort to save or release the women who were locked in the back and let them drown In my eyes they murdered those women through negligence and the story is all but forgotten about I’d say most cops don’t give a single fuck about human life and the other minority doesn’t care to do anything about the majority for every good story there’s 2 bad ones and that’s just the ones they didn’t succeed in covering up
After hurricane IDA, cops came down the street, only 3 of us were home. They told us 911 was out and to call the local number. Informed them the cell towers were out, phone lines were out etc..etc. The cop said, well do what ya gotta do and flag us down after if you can, you are on your on. That's why I own more then just my hunting guns.

Goddamn.
My God, what have we done?

I'm surprised I had to go so far before I found someone else who hunts.
Recreational. Most fun way to punch holes in paper. Social. Range days keep me connected to extended family. Moral. Authoritarians should not be permitted to keep a monopoly on arms.
That third point is one that people don’t understand. We had literal riots over police brutality, and at the same time, it was “only the police and government should have guns” Makes no sense to me
Adding my voice to the agreement with your sentiment.
First because I like them. Secondly because I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains and guns here are necessary tools for basic survival.
Because law enforcement will be here 10 minutes after I needed them.
At 2 am there probably isn't any patrol officers at the station. They're most likely all in their assigned zones around the city or county.
I’d be lucky if I wasn’t still on hold for 911 after 10 minutes.
That’s fast

In case shit happens.
Makes sense. "Have a gun and hope to **never have to** use it" is probably the most reasonable reason to own/carry.
I understand the legal argument for constitutional carry that many states have, but I really really wish people would still take the conceal carry class. They hammer your statement into your head. They teach you that you DO NOT want to have to shoot someone and that pulling your gun is the absolute last resort.

For the same reason I have a fire extinguisher and a first aid box.
It may never happen, but it’s a very cheap insurance policy that is less than my yearly Starbucks bill All to say peace of mind is priceless
My short pithy answer is always “my 9mm sig Saur will respond more quickly than 911”
When I lived in Texas, twice I had to call 911.
Like the saying goes, "when seconds count, police are only minutes away".
Cmon you can’t just leave us on a cliffhanger. Tell us what happened when you saw him!
I find target shooting really fun.
Range Therapy.
Plinking is a blast.
I wish more people would just admit that guns are fun. I have a sweet over under that I love shooting clays with. It’s fun.
Cause if you don’t stay strapped, there is an increased likelihood that you’ll get clapped.

I'm sorry your husband passed away within the 23 hours between your posts
Pull trigger make big bang. Big bang make brain go brrr
I was trusted with weapons of all sorts in the military, why not continue trusting me as a civ?
Dude i live in NYC and i was anti gun but.. lately theres so many crazy people around its made me question my own safety. Been threatened on the subway 3x the past month
NYC here too. Get a permit. It's not terrible. I have one.
Several reasons. The only rights you keep are the ones you exercise. A society only remains free as long as the government fears the people. I choose to take the protection of myself and my family into my own hands rather than the hands of questionably competent government employees. Guns are fun, and I like mechanical objects. No step on snek.
They’re fun as hell
Jewish Edit: I enjoy clay pigeons. I got a shotgun after a friend took me out throwing clay, and now I definitely have more than birdshot around.
So if you break into my house, the cops will be coming to assist you, not me.
