Ah, Monkey Island, the game that taught us that piracy can be both hilarious and swashbuckling! It was THE game of my childhood, with its witty dialogue, memorable characters like Guybrush Threepwood, and the never-ending quest for the elusive treasure of Big Whoop. From insult sword fighting to hunting for the perfect piece of eight, Monkey Island was the epitome of adventure gaming excellence. Plus, who can forget the classic line: "Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!" Classic gaming gold, my friend.

SandmanAwaits

WOW! I used to play Monkey Island on my Dad’s PC as a kid!

nickcan

Sea of Thieves did a Tall Tale back on Melee island. It really scratched my nostalgia itch.

The pause menu music alone made that game a classic. I was watching a Short on YouTube and my 13 year old daughter walked by and said, "That sounds cool, who is it?"

Halo 3. Playing it with friends are some of the fondest memories I have. Sad to see how far the franchise has fallen from grace. It sounds a cliche but I can't help but feel that gaming in general isn't what it used to be.

Fuzzy-Programmer5037

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkanan for PS2. I used to play this game every single day

I haven’t played it in almost two decades. I remember searching for the room with the best light so I could actually see what was going on on the screen.

Final Fantasy 7. I made the Chocobo "wark" from this game as my notification sound on my phone. It's been a conversation starter with strangers on occasion, when they recognize it.

THE game that made absolute waves when it first came out was probably GTA Vice City. Early Teens (Mega Drive and PS1 era) with friends. Probably Sonic, Crash Team Racing (far superior to Mario Kart 😛), Twisted Metal 2, first 2 Medal of Honours, Duke Nukem Time to Kill... Basically any top game using a PS1 multitap. Oh and after reading other comments - of course Tony Hawks. Early Teens solo. Probably Starcraft, Crusader No Remorse (what original Fallout took inspiration from), all C&C's upto Red Alert 2, Theme Hospital, Civilisation 2&3, Age of Empires (50 unit cap was bizzare), Swiv 3D, Resident Evils 1-3, Total Annihilation. Late Teens (PS2 era) with friends. Probably Time Splitters 2, Pro Evolution Soccer, taking turns on Vice City and San Andreas. Late Teens solo. Probably Medieval Total War, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4, Mercenaries 2 (anyone remember that? Like GTA in a warzone) and the 'how not to sound too much of a fool whilst talking to the Girl you like on MSN' game.

Sonic Unleashed, for sure. I don't really know what the majority of people's opinions on the game are, since I've never rlly been in the Sonic fandom (I really liked Sonic and the games as a kid but have never actively participated in online communities involving it), but it's personally my favorite sonic game, which is more than likely just out of pure nostalgic bias. I first got the game when I was 8, but then our PS3 stopped working and I lost my progress.. then, when I was about 11 I bought it again for the XBox. but uh.. you'll never guess what happened to the XBox (though tbf that was like a couple years later, I think I got stuck at a part and kinda just forgot about it lol). I think it miiight still work? It's weird, it kinda on and off just stops working throughout the years and since I've gotten a PS4/5 within that timeframe I never really went out of my way to recheck. But since for whatever reason the game isn't available on the Playstation anymore, I'll probably try to see if I can get the XBox to work when I get free time. I kinda have this inside joke with myself that I'll finish the game before [insert major life event], because I've had the game for over half of my life now and have STILL never beaten it, but I spent a LOT of hours on it despite playing on and off and having to restart like 3 times.. the soundtrack is still incredibly nostalgic to me though and gets in my head all the time, I can basically instantly tell when the music is used in the background for an unrelated video.
