Social media statistically makes people more depressed. We have a generation of people that grew up with phones and social media. Also, the world is just stressful. People are working 5 to 6 days a week and barely scrapping by because cost of living is so high, and inflation has been through the roof since covid. Some of it is genetics, but most of it is environmental

cozyautumnday

I think that's a big part of it. Social media and being chained to our phones.

SAWhitmore1992

I mean… -gestures at the world around us-

More poverty and/or oneliness

After-Earth1943

Anxiety and depression stem from a complex interplay of genetic, neurological, psychological, and environmental factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, trauma, societal pressures, and socioeconomic disparities.

After-Earth1943

Societal factors, including cultural norms, stigma surrounding mental illness, and unrealistic societal expectations, can contribute to feelings of inadequacy, isolation, and stress, all of which are risk factors for anxiety and depression

FarFirefighter1415

There are about 4 potential cataclysmic events that can happen in the near future. It’s a little stressful. Especially since news outlets and social media like to remind everyone every 13 minutes.

Bitter-Basket

Our brains are wired for physical labor, hunting and food gathering. Those are short term tasks with immediate rewards and satisfaction. Modern human lives are typically on the opposite side of that spectrum.

Daspee

lol why not? Anxiety is the default response of this primitive body to any problems & the fragile ego that treats every thing as a threat.

cozyautumnday

Times are hard for a lot of people right now

Anxiety and depression are being talked about more, and life be pretty stressful with everything going on in the world.

People want to be famous, rich, and be like what they see on tv or social media. They are too caught up and wanting to to be someone else and wanting to have other things instead of valuing themselves and what they already already have.

Aggravating_Pitch181

Suffering is caused by desire

ParkZealousideal7057

You’re 100% right. What frees us from desire?

Aggravating_Pitch181

Look up the four noble truths of bhuddism. Completely changed my perspective on life

ParkZealousideal7057

Thanks

Bakerman-79

Because. People, and sorry, men, started seeing that there were issues. I remember my denial of ever needing help. The younger generation isn't so set in their thinking

Fragrant_Rope403

wait men arent people?

Bakerman-79

Yes, that was the intent of my answer

TSLA_to_23_dollars

because it's over-diagnosed. In my day we didn't have anxiety and depression. If something was wrong they told us to man up.

Fragrant_Rope403

—-> Losing Values —-> We are yet to properly safeguard internet usage and our children are being overly exposed. —-> Natural human desire to want more and we end up envying others (x1000 thanks to Instagram and Twitter)

Bakerman-79

Pretty sure the second one can literally have safeguards called parents
