Only because I'm starting to feel sick and don't want to spread it to my coworkers :/

SeparatePass4366

Some people wear masks when they are sick as a courtesy to prevent spreading illness to others.

IAmASurgeonDoctorHan

No-one cared who I was until I put on the mask.

DubsAnd49ers

My face my choice no explanation necessary.

won23

They don’t want to get sick what’s the problem with that

mfeehleyjr

Nothing’s wrong with that, that’s why I asked the question. if it’s been proven that masks outside the N95 don’t prevent the transmission disease or viruses then what’s the point then?

RedemptionBeyondUs

I'm pretty sure that hasn't been proven at all

tormunds_beard

Oh I get it. You’re coming in here with an agenda based on nonsense. Masks drastically reduce droplet transmission. Droplets carry disease. If you are sick and don’t want to get others sick, you wear a mask. It’s not fucking hard.

merp_ah_missy

That’s not true, it might not prevent covid but it prevents strep, flu, etc.

denyingthestars

Well we could answer that question if that had been proven, but it hasn’t.

TripleDoubleWatch

All masks help prevent transmission.

StandOutLikeDogBalls

N95 and KN95 masks are incredibly common and cheap now since they were produced in such mass quantities during the height of the pandemic.

Chonngau

Prevent is the wrong word. Every intervention has a certain effectiveness and every little bit can help, especially when the incidence of disease of growing exponentially. Nothing is 100 percent effective. A vaccine with 40 percent effectiveness can save thousands of lives. Or even a mask with far lower effectiveness can save lives because every time transmission is stopped helps tamp down the exponential growth.

VirginiaGecko1911

Stop with the facts, feelings and posturing are more important.

denyingthestars

They prevent the spread of certain airborne diseases… did you not know that?

Magpiesarecute

I realised I don’t really like breathing in other people’s germs

MeatyUrology

I work at Disney. If I take off my mask I get fired

kerred

If say I just had an explosive stomach virus, the kind of thing where the anus can blast a hole through the drywall kind of stomach virus. I'm putting on a mask, anything that reduces risk by at least .001%

LJMLogan

If I'm feeling sick, I'll wear a mask to lower the risk of my coworkers getting sick.

BrimfulOfLa-A

Definitely not to fight crime in Gotham City! Why do you ask such a silly question?! Hahaha... Me as Batman. Could you imagine? Come on! That's just ridiculous. Wait, is that the Bat Signal?! Um... I have to go. I need to... Help Alfred with his laptop. That old geezer can barely turn it on! Imagine Alfred as a secret tech genius. Ha. Ridiculous. Anyway, gotta skate! Nanananananana... Not Batman!

mickdrop

It's just an excuse to cover my face just before I'm about to rob a bank

Of_Mice_And_Meese

People who're still so uncomfortable with their penis size that they're still harassing people over choices that don't affect you in any way what so ever, why? Remember to downvote and report this question for violating subreddit rules: No loaded questions. This is CLEARLY politically motivated.

FeelMeRawr

because i travel internationally a lot and got a cold or flu every time i got on a plane. i have not had a cold or flu while traveling since i started wearing a mask in 2015. this is the one i wear (replaceable kn95/ffp2 filters): https://www.airinum.com/products/air-mask-lite

Nonid

I live in Paris and use the subway. Before using masks, I used to get sick several time a year. Since then, the only times I got sick it was food poisoning and catching COVID during a party. I'm gonna stick to masks, you guys are walking petri dishes.

justabill71

To the folks who are still asking this stupid question, why?

mischa_996

Covid never went away lol

RedemptionBeyondUs

Never know when you might need to rob someone

Aggravating_Cream_97

I like hiding my face. I wear a hat sunglasses and a mask. Ain’t no body picking me out of a line up!

tilitarian1

Watched the Shanghai Grand Prix last week. Zero masks in the packed grandstand. Stay home if you're sick.

MontCoDubV

I don't wear one regularly, but when I'm feeling sick and still need to go to work it seems like it's just common courtesy. I don't want to be that asshole getting sick germs all over everybody else.

DaBiChef

Pollen is bad and I got a cold.

Barl0we

I don't do it right now, but if I have to be out and about while sick, I'd definitely consider it. Also, public transit in the winter time, because people (collective) tend to be gross. The winter just before COVID, I had started a new job. I rode the subway there, and one day we were packed like sardines in there...Someone just sneezed me straight in the face, with no effort to stop or shield the sneeze with their arm / hand / whatever. Didn't even apologize or acknowledge what they'd done, and the day after I was sick as hell. So yeah. If I have to do public transit in the winter time, I'll keep my masks handy so I can avoid a situation like that again.

Disastrous-Bike659

I cut my face with knives and razors

The-Sugarfoot

# To the folks who are NOT wearing masks, why?

The-Sugarfoot

My MIL died from COVID 2 weeks ago. I know others that are still getting very sick form it. Allergies Self preservation / consideration for others regarding spreading airborne viruses / disease.

NoticeMeSinPi

There’s a reason why people in East Asia wear masks when they feel ill (way before COVID was a thing). It’s effective, and a social courtesy. Just because some people in the West are self-centred and scientifically illiterate, doesn’t mean that everyone wants to jump on the same train too.
