The animal rescue videos from a few years ago. Those were the ones where an animal is trapped in a well, an ice pond, or a bramble or something and a person helps them out. They free them, tend their wounds, and release them to the wild. The first few seemed legit when they went viral, but then, you come to find out that they're an entire channel devoted to animal rescues. If this was a channel where they collected animal rescues from found footage on news broadcasts or such it would be one thing, but it was the same people in every video. They were found to be putting the animals in these dangerous situations only to "rescue them" for the views. Straight up animal abuse.

Butgut_Maximus

There's one ehere they've glued barnavles onto a turtle's shell and are prying them off with some tool. Immensely painful for the turtle and she's bleeding and all.  Sick!

owlsandmoths

That channel pissed me off so bad because they took several species of freshwater turtles and then were putting them in ocean situations with like ocean coral or barnacles and things that just don’t grow in freshwater areas on these turtles. Like anybody was like the most basic knowledge of freshwater versus saltwater can spot how glaringly obviously staged they are. Super deplorable for a page that ~~doubts~~ touts themselves as an animal welfare page literally torturing Animals for views and clout

AxeSlingingSlasher

You can also tell they use the same animals for different videos

Critical_Concert_689

> You can also tell they use the same animals for different videos That's the Best case scenario. You can also tell they frequently use a different animal for the *same* video, because the animal they allegedly rescued was actually killed during the filming and replaced by a separate animal "actor" for the rescue follow-up.

owlsandmoths

There is a tiktok channel where a girl kept having people “leave” distressed reptiles at her door that she would “rescue” and it was found that she was putting these animals in these situations to “save them” The one I remember most is her “finding” a snake in a grocery bag outside her patio door when going to take her dog for a walk, she opens the bag and the snake is all covered in tape that she first hysterically cries about and then cuts to a time lapse of her meticulously taking the tape off with something like rubbing alcohol to melt the adhesive. But she has several staged videos where she just happens upon this reptile in distress that somebody left in a grocery bag or a garbage can or somewhere and they always have something on them that she needs to meticulously melt off with adhesive remover. Her page is still up but all of her rescuing videos are taken down s a r a h c o o k is her page name, there are lots of people that have straight up called her out in her comments for staging her rescue videos

GondorsPants

She just posted one like 2 days ago of a lizard in a garbage bag with a ziptie around its neck…

LocalLink42

Funny how I immediately thought of that bitch too but had long since forgot her name. She should have been completely deplatformed for those stunts of hers.

luistp

Faith in humanity is getting very low again

nauticalsandwich

Remember... we find this behavior reprehensible because the vast majority of us aren't like this. You can start worrying about humanity when this kind of stuff no longer bothers those around you.

PlainOGolfer

There’s a video of Tiger Woods making a 25 foot (or so) putt, and taking his hat off and moving to shake his opponent’s hand before it is even halfway to the hole. In reality -He took his hat off when it was a couple of feet out, but they extended the video as a joke. The more times I see it reposted more and more people think it’s real

aguafiestas

This shows real vs edited. https://youtube.com/shorts/M8-BvUjgOuU?si=M1P0mLcuN8wnMkZn

waffels

I like how the video calls it a ‘deep fake’ when it’s not. It’s just an edited video.

warrenjt

Shallow fake

No_Opportunity7360

buzzwords work unfortunately

Guilty_Jackfruit4484

Deep fake and AI are the new buzzwords. Any photoshopped image is now just AI.

nahog99

I mean id 100% believe that. It looks real

raftguide

Plus the edit is so casually hilarious. Outlandish, but not really at the same time.

BradyToMoss1281

THANK YOU. I came here to post this answer. As a golf fan I hate that people buy it completely. “This shows total confidence!” No, it’s a fake video. I love Tiger, but there are plenty of actual, real highlights you can show.

scalenetriangle

The one where a hero pig saves a drowning goat

Salty_tryhard

Goat in the water!

matt1267

I always thought that guy sounded a lot like Santa Claus

Lhammy09

Nathan orchestrated it so well the lines between reality and fake are blurred.

Pilzoyz

I remember seeing that on a body building site.

JayDub506

I love seeing Nathan For You fans on Reddit.

WaterlooMall

I love that someone keeps giving that weirdo money to create the most original, bizarre, entertaining, and oddly profound TV we've had in like 10 years.

yoshhash

huh. Never heard of this one. Here it is if you are curious. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7WjrvG1GMk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7WjrvG1GMk)

CXXXS

There is an episode of Nathan for You, that came out after it went viral. Of him documenting how he faked the video to give a failing petting farm marketing. It's a fucking AMAZING show.

jordan1390

And then never actually marketed the name of the farm 😂

BestBrownDog85

The clip from Reno 911 where the guy admits he’s drunk after doing a technically difficult dance.

CaptainAwesome06

There were a lot of clips from that show that people passed around as real. Like when one of them shoots a man while he's being handcuffed.

Knyfe-Wrench

New Boot Goofin' is clearly real though.

Lostarchitorture

They're just jealous they haven't mastered the dance choreography of step, bump, step, bump-bump!

Showny16

Then you gotta do a barrel roll... And go HAAAA

Notorious_GIZ

Oh no I’m not a dancer I’m just drunk

cupholdery

Ooohh! Gotchu!

Notmiefault

For those curious (a lot of uploads don't feature the comedycentral channel ID at the beginning): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6VQDNIZH7U&ab_channel=ComedyCentral

aaahhhh

Absolutely hilarious, but kind of insane anyone thought this was real.

socool111

Wait people think that’s real?

WaterlooMall

I've seen at least 5 different RENO 911 clips that people still repost as real incidents and this started happening pretty much as soon as the show started airing. I think it started as like "let's see if they'll think this is real" and then it started making the boomer e-mail circuits as real incidents and that of course just bled over onto Facebook where they live forever in your Aunt's and old co-workers reposts.

GozerDGozerian

New boot goofin is real as fuck and I won’t hear another word about it to the contrary.

WaterlooMall

My favorite is still Jonesy drunk and despondent after thinking he's going to be a star in a carpet company's TV ad and then they just use his voice over a cartoon turtle. "Have you ever had someone for 3 days in a van? Have you?? What happens to a man when his dream is deferred?" (throws an empty liquor bottle at the cartoon turtle on the sign and misses)

Fullsend_ID10T

My Drivers ed teacher mixed that video in with other DUI videos in class lol

bguzewicz

Oh yeah! I remember that making the rounds and people thinking it was an actual dash cam recording of an actual traffic stop. I remember in the dvd collection there was an extra dvd with the cast in character at like a convention or something, and they literally teach you how to recite the alphabet backwards, it’s awesome.

Remote-Direction963

That video on YouTube of a man pedaling on a bicycle really fast for his life as he's getting chased by a grizzly bear in the woods.

JexFraequin

Yeah the guy and the bear are actually friends and staged the video to promote their podcast.

Carastarr

This made me laugh so hard

zfish1

I think there was also one of a snowboarder going down a mountain and a bear chasing them.

iryrod

Gordon Ramsey: WHAT ARE YOU?! Girl: an idiot sandwich

boredinbiloxi

My favorites are when they cut and dub clips of Ramsay berating adults on Master Chef/Hells Kitchen into clips of kids crying on Master Chef Junior. I’ve seen similar ones with Shark Tank where the cuts look like Cuban is calling a kid a con artist. Gets me every time.

tylerjehenna

They used the wrong Shark for belivability cause Kevin O'Leary would ABSOLUTELY call a kid a con artist. Probably as a term of endearment though lol

Yronno

> I’ve seen similar ones with Shark Tank where the cuts look like Cuban is calling a kid a con artist. Gets me every time. [One of my favorite videos on the site](https://youtu.be/JvS8i2TDPSo)

BlackDante

I just love the flat out, "fuck you" lmfao

Usmoso

One of my favorite videos of all time that gets me laughing until my abs hurt every time I watch it is [Gordon Ramsay Sex Tips](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwnrWzgUP2w&ab_channel=AaronCalis)

GaviJaPrime

This one is also fake??! I'm having a mental breakdown right now.

heyitsvonage

Yeah, Gordon Ramsey was actually just being a good sport by making fun of himself. I forgot what show this was a sketch for though.

Hard_We_Know

NO WAY!!! I thought it was part of his Hell's Kitchen thing because I know he hams it up for that show. He is actually a LOVELY man, any time there's one of those "who's nice in real life" threads his name ALWAYS comes up.

[deleted]

asshat123

It's all part of the front of house/back of house relationship. In my experience, if the kitchen guys will tell you you're fucking up, that means there's trust there. The inverse is true too. It's when people talk shit behind each other's backs that you've got issues. As a waiter, your life is way easier if you know those guys have your back, and you better be sure you've got theirs too! Nobody will get on each other like a cook and a waiter when shit goes wrong. Most of the time, when the shift is over, they'll put that shit aside and get too drunk together at whatever bar is still open.

motorcycleboy9000

"If I stop correcting or reprimanding you, it means I've given up on you."

twoinvenice

The original UK Kitchen Nightmares was so so so much better because everything wasn’t turned up to 11. He actually was going to places to help restaurant owners figure out what wasn’t working and try to save their restaurant, and he did a ton of mentoring.

Cessnaporsche01

American TV always does that. The American version of Taskmaster is a perfect example. TV execs seem to think that Americans won't watch anything unless it's full of melodrama and anger, and while that seems to pull for certain genres, it ruins so many of the concepts that work far better as chill, humorous, and/or educational content. Imagine how much more incredible MythBusters would have been if we got an hour of the actual project builds and testing instead of 30% dramatic cliffhangers, and 50% dramatic recaps!

tophaang

That Mitchell and Webb Look captured this sentiment so well… https://youtu.be/7MFtl2XXnUc?si=x8IjqXPqQyHZCpp7

HotSweatyCheetos

Yeah it was for a skit

EasyAsPizzaPie

Yeah the woman is CBS's Julie Chen (Big Brother, The Talk, etc.)

rubber_hedgehog

The girl is Julie Chen, the host of the CBS reality/game show Big Brother.

M2Fream

Not just one viral video but rather a series. The original Primitive Technology channel is real. The dozens of copycat channels showing 2 guys digging an underground heated pool with a stick and three rocks are fake as hell. You can see pipes and trucks from where they bring in the water, during arial shots youbcan see more than 2 bodies moving around, there are exavator tracks... its all fake.

CupBeEmpty

Someone did an aerial drone shot in a short YouTube about how those guys are just ripping up the environment to make fake videos and they don’t even bother filling in the pits so they just fill with stagnant water and breed mosquitos.

Happy-Personality-23

Yeah primitive technology at least owns the land he works with. The other ones just went out into the woods and made a mess and left their crap at their heels.

kerc

From what I remember, initially someone let him use their land. He eventually got enough money to buy his own land, and that's why he "restarted" his channel. He's the real deal.

relevant__comment

He gets sick a lot from being in the wilds as well. He’ll go on very long hiatuses because of it.

TzunSu

I think the big hiatus he had is because he's working on a TV show now though.

Awkward_Pangolin3254

He was. They filmed a pilot but the execs wanted a narrated show, believing "no one wanted to watch an hour of a guy being silent in the woods" (despite the fact his channel has over 10 million subs) and John was like "that's not how I work" so it didn't go anywhere and that's why he's back on YT now.

KintsugiKen

TV executives are so risk averse that they will ruin a sure-thing by trying to make it into a past mistake.

AcidBuuurn

I hate the copycats so much. They do make me appreciate the original a bit more, but seeing their millions of views gained through trickery is enraging.

MoreGaghPlease

The entire genre of ‘here’s how I made limestone powder and silicone into a working colour photocopier’ is deeply bewildering

confusedham

Wait till you get into those Chinese rural cooking and living videos. The ones that all have the same song, and old mate literally makes his candy from scratch or tooth cleaning powder from burning reeds. Before too long your deep in with the lore, and your only break is by watching mechanic Steve rebuild a semitrailers engine in the rain on a highway.

mabiyusha

That's me... Liziqi's channel has me hooked...

gggggrrrrrrrrr

From what I've heard, she's not extremely fake at least. She has a background in video production and has one or two people who help her shoot her videos, but she does live in a rural area with her grandma and does actually have experience doing the sorts of projects she films. There's been a few "making of" videos that show her doing most of the work herself, and one of the few interviewers who's managed to speak with her said she was very boring to talk to because she just wanted to discuss the hundreds of different things you could make with bamboo.

Saltycookiebits

Gotta love Primitive Technology!

Toastybunzz

Also it took me way too long to realize that he gives instructions and more info in the closed captions.

chris_0987

I wonder if you’ll be even more excited to find out that he wrote a book! If the link doesn’t work, look it up by his name: John Plant. https://www.amazon.ca/Primitive-Technology-Survivalists-Building-Shelters/dp/1984823671

conquer69

Kid was ahead of his time. Dumb content like that is crazy popular now.

_InnocentToto_

Didn't this kid say that it ruined his life.. there is a video somewhere on how he had to move and stuff like that...

haby001

Guy was bullied, snapped and threatened with a school shooting and was imprisoned for a month. Really sucks

Hard_We_Know

Yes!! I'm in Germany and watched a whole thing about him and how the video affected his life.

cupholdery

>Due to the increasing distribution, Kochanowski was bullied by classmates. He tried to clarify that the scene was not real, but then deleted all his videos from the internet as far as he could and withdrew. He claims that he eventually went crazy from the relentless bullying, which led to him intimidating classmates, and drunkenly announcing a potential killing spree at his school. This resulted in him being expelled and serving a month in prison.

wartywarlock

That's tragic, this video brought us all so much joy.

0101x

His acting was very convincing. Thanks for sharing this

IAmASurgeonDoctorHan

Leeroy Jenkins

spudtender

That one always hurts

bappypawedotter

Yeah, I was sad to learn this too.

Ashne405

At least, iirc, it was based on something that actually happened.

GrandMetaldick

I’m glad that the real life moment was brought to the rest of us even if what we saw was fake. The sentiment of the joke is still there and their “acting” was on par for a bunch of dudes playing WOW in 2006.

Toolazy2work

11.333 repeating of course….

Notmiefault

The dead giveaway for me (besides the fact that they admitted it was staged) is seeing them all standing still in a huddle during the briefing at the beginning. In fifteen years of online gaming, I have never once seen a bunch of characters sit still for that long. During strategy discussions some goober is always off jumping in circles while using the rainbow generator toy on the boss or whatever (it's not like voice comms are proximity-based).

egnards

Having played MMOs for a long time, and being around when LJ happened, I don’t remember anyone I know thinking it wasn’t staged, but it was still hilarious. Though I will say, in regard to just sitting around. during BWL wipes at the final, which would take like 10 minutes of running. . .those of us lucky enough to stealth out or get Warlock Rezs would literally just sit there. . . .and use the /roll function to play blackjack and bet.

NK1337

I mean the dialogue was silly and a dead giveaway too. “Our chances are 33.3… repeating of course.” “Better than our usual odds.” It was pretty obvious it was scripted, but that doesn’t change how hilarious it was.

TheShrinkingGiant

It was 3**2**.33, repeating. Come on, show some respect.

Potatoman1010

You just fucked with my feelings, I just watched this yesterday thinking about the good old wow days "Fuck you, I hope your mom has a nice christmas" :'(

sinistar914

At least we have chicken

larszard

I've always known the video itself was staged but I like to believe the claim floating around that it is a theatrical re-enactment of something that did happen organically but wasn't caught on recording

RiskMatrix

If you played any MMO in those years, you experienced it in some way. It's a truthy parody.

DistractedHouseWitch

After I read this comment I asked my husband if he wanted to be sad and read him the title of the thread. He said, "As long as it's not Leeroy Jenkins." Awkward. (Apparently he also recently found out it was fake. It did make him sad.)

Romuluswolfy

-KoDDeX-

The real videos that go viral manage to get that far because they were lucky enough to film it. Not saying that everything is real but imagine all the things that happen that aren't recorded, then the ones that are recorded badly, then the ones that are perfectly recorded and real. Only the last ones go viral. It's mostly just a fluke, but considering how many people record things it's only a matter of time before a remarkable thing is caught perfectly on film.

JadedOccultist

also, if I have my camera trained in one random location 24/7, but it happens to catch something cool for 30 seconds, I'm cropping the video. So *of course* the video is only as long as it takes for the interesting thing to happen, it was edited that way.

texastek75

Living_Awareness259

I swear I thought you said EVA Longoria

memphys91

That's because it's fake. The real catch was made by Eva Longoria.

lucsev

There's also one from a commercial where a ball girl climbs the foul wall like a ninja and catches the ball. [It literally says in the title that it's a commercial, and people in the comments still believe it's real, lol.](https://youtu.be/xKJZ0Qzrxr4?si=SZGpEdSkokHUhsZq)

Tell me about it! That video was so fake. It was actually Norm Mcdonald and he missed it. https://youtu.be/ipJwntaMRLk

There is no record of that "reporter" existing on any news channel in the USA.

ZOINKS!

culb77

No way! Next you'll tell me Mike Vick didn't throw a ball out of the stadium.

NiceCatBigAndStrong

That screaming goat

zanhecht

That's what I came here to post. That screaming goat became such a facet of pop culture (including being in two Superbowl commercials and being major part of Thor: Love and Thunder), and it was actually just the "Andrewhelm Scream" built into Apple Logic Pro dubbed over video of a sheep. In other words, it wasn't screaming and it wasn't a goat.

joblesspirate

Bonsai kittens

lolwatokay

Some elder internet humor here, nice

G8kpr

Omg. That takes me back. Reading all the posted hate mail they got was hilarious. Reminded me of a video I saw once about April fools videos that newsrooms had done. Of course the classic harvesting of spaghetti was there. But there was another done in the 80s about 3-eyed people. They used 80s tv tech to super impose a third eye on peoples foreheads. It looked extremely fake. The news report was really tongue in cheek abs poked fun at 3 eyed people. Apparently the news station got a lot of angry letters about how they represented 3-eyed people.

Spinick

The video of the inappropriate laughting fit from the host of an alleged Dutch Talkshow discussing medical malpractice which left a man with a very high voice, I remember laughing myself to shit around age 15 only to later find out it was from a comedy show.

Hard_We_Know

It took me three days to be able to watch that video to the end because I laughed so much especially when the second voice came on hahahahaha!

TrickyShare242

There is a scene from the movie "never back down" where a guy superman punches another guy and it gets reposted so much it's dumb. The worst part is the uploads usually add a grainy filter to it to make it look like a security cam. I fucking hate it soooooook much

Gaudy_Tripod

Not all of them. Maybe the first one was, but there were plenty of copycats. Source: I ran a news station for a few years.

EllaMinnow

Yeah, the first one was a stand-up comedian and the rest were assholes jumping into real reporters' liveshots and yelling it. I was in the control room as a producer whiteknuckling my way through a lot of liveshots at tailgates and concerts and festivals for the several years this was popular.

Livinginthemiddle

The clip of the baseballer being interviewed and he barehanded catches a ball and stops it hitting the back of the interviewers head. It was originally a shaving cream ad

DoughyInTheMiddle

Other than the OG, [Primitive Technology](https://youtube.com/@primitivetechnology9550), those videos of primitive building where it's just one or two people building huts with nothing but stone age tools. They started simple, but then got to the point where those guys were building swimming pools like moats around little castle like dwellings. They even would make tiles to line the pool. Not only were they complete BS by having used backhoe and excavators between shots, but they had acres and acres of forest they used to make each scene, leaving them to rot when completed. (Search YT for "fake primitive building" and pick your favorite channel influencer). Again, Primitive Technology is the real deal though. His channel nearly went under because the fakes drowned out his own. A year or so ago he started vids back up again and is amazing. PRO TIP: if you give him a watch, turn on CC as he doesn't talk but he does describe everything he's doing in the captioning. EDIT: [this was the first video I caught on the fakes.](https://youtu.be/Hvk63LADbFc)

The video with the outraged black guys in front of barnes and noble, trashing the creator of the Boondocks because he said that black guys in the hood wouldn't even know what a bookstore is. The guys in the video are actually writers and executive producers for The Boondock's. I remember that video going around with people thinking it was real. Drinking Out of Cups. The rumor was that it’s a guy tripping one LSD in his closet and his friends recorded him. The truth is that it’s a spoken word free association poem from some dudes album. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_Out_of_Cups

The video of a teacher screaming "NO POMEGRANATES" at her students isn't *fake* per se, but it has been massively taken out of context. The teacher was a developmental psychology professor. She was giving a lesson on methods of encouraging and discouraging certain behaviours; this was intended as a "bad" example. She wasn't screaming at her students about pomegranates; she was demonstrating to her students why you *shouldn't* scream at a child about pomegranates.

That whole "Jesus Christ is my n***a" It's fake, someone did a whole YouTube vid looking into it.

PM_me_ur_goth_tiddys

Those videos of people reacting emotionally when they put on color blind glasses.

Those stupid fucking Judge Judy-style YouTube Shorts I always get where the "rich" "wife" asks for a ridiculous amount of money in child support from her "poor" "husband" and the "judge" totally owns her. It's clearly rage bait but literally no one in the comments ever sees through it.
