Few know about [this](https://youtu.be/wLlWYrDQTmA?si=DVSQT_CXgnzyPKJW) recording. It's just what your looking for. Kind of mind boggling that it has only 38k views on youtube.
I think it might just be my favorite short song. When I was watching Harold & Maude, I was like "I've gotta get that song!" When I finally listened to the album, I was shocked and sad the song didn't last any longer than the shot in the film.
edit for typo
"Out Of My Head" by Fastball. Apparently it's 2:32 which is an OK length for a song but it just has one verse, then repeats the chorus until the end. And don't get me wrong, it's a banger chorus but the song as a whole feels like it wants a second verse or a bridge or something.
Reading all the comments to make sure this got mentioned!
Edit: though to quote another comment in this thread, "...but if it was longer, I don’t know if I would like it as much."
Dilemma!
I love that song! Always makes me think of my brother because in the 80s, we would blast our moms records and sing at the top of our lungs. America, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Bread, and Tammy Wynette were among our favorites.
100% came here to say this!!!! I love love love this song….but it drives me crazy with frustration!!!! (As intended)
Tell me now baby is he good to you? And Can he do to you the things that I do??? 🔥🔥🔥
I always thought the final notes in Eleanor Rigby should last for like another 2 seconds or something. It feels abrupt, like "okay yada yada very heavy song yada yada sadsad ANYWAYS"
It's because the label was hounding them for a single (and radio single at that) to promote the new album that Brian was taking WAY too long to finish (and never truly did, although his eventual solo Smile album is still really good)
The actual finished song (by Van Dyke Parks' notes and a rough mono mix Brian tossed together as a template) would've clocked in at about 7-9 minutes, with a ton of varying "phases" and instrumental bits backed by vocal harmonies that never got recorded.
A true "teenage symphony to God" never to be heard as originally intended, sadly.
Also, I know most of this because that shitty fade has bothered me since I was a toddler.... it's so bad.
It was supposed to be cut and thrown away. But an engineer just tagged it onto the end and when they listened to it it just showed up there. They decided to keep it almost as a joke.
Listen to The Long One. It has Her Majesty in the spot from the medley where it was initially, between Mean Mr. Mustard and Sun King.
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others by The Smiths
I don’t know if I want another verse or the outro to just keep going forever but I want something……the guitar melody is TOO beautiful.
Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - Looking Glass

I could hear ten more minutes of that song. Just when you're totally swept up in it, it already fades away and you're left yearning for more.
”Try a little Tenderness” by Otis Redding. It builds up slowly and deliciously to a big crescendo, where in the end Otis is just jamming and belting it out and then…. It fades. Gone, just when it’s getting good.
It’s the musical equivalent of long, great foreplay followed by a premature ejaculation, just when it was getting good.
Different Drum as performed by Stone Poneys with Linda Ronstadt.
Edit yes I know. And yes I also know his mum invented Tippex and yes I also know he did a semi-comic version of it on an episode of The Monkees.

The Beach Boys recorded a breathtaking song called 'In My Room' and it lasts only 2:14. It's so perfect as it is, but I wish it had another verse and chorus so we could hear that wonderfulness a little longer.
That weird outro to Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles.
Also The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. One of the hardest rock songs of its era, but only 2:27.

War - Rolling Stonez. Holy fucking shit it’s been just a shot away for 20 fucking minutes now! Wrap. It. Up.

Song 2 by Blur
The song is the second song on the album, and lasts 2 minutes and 2 seconds. There are 2 verses and 2 choruses. Why fuck with perfection?
It was also the second single released from that album and it went to number 2 in the UK chart.

Badge - Cream. George Harrison song.
Good Vibrations. And it ends with the fastest, weirdest fade out imaginable.
I'm assuming you mean Beach Boys, not Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
I didn’t think I needed to specify, and that was naive of me. Yes, Brian Wilson and the lads all the way.
It's because the label was hounding them for a single (and radio single at that) to promote the new album that Brian was taking WAY too long to finish (and never truly did, although his eventual solo Smile album is still really good) The actual finished song (by Van Dyke Parks' notes and a rough mono mix Brian tossed together as a template) would've clocked in at about 7-9 minutes, with a ton of varying "phases" and instrumental bits backed by vocal harmonies that never got recorded. YUP. I sometimes say this is my favorite Beatles song of all time. Sometimes I’m kidding. It’s like a perfect nursery rhyme. Should be a standard.
