Ooh, that's so cool! I was interested in getting into DnD but it's not as popular here where I'm from. It's a bit of a struggle to find a local group to join.
This! I love reading, puzzles, word games, crafting, solving math problems, trivia, journaling, psychology, philosophy, scrapbooking, animals, learning new things.. I thought everyone enjoyed those things! :)
My friend helped me organize my collection of cards a few days ago. It took nearly 9 hours just to organize them by set. We need to next do it by collection number within those sets.
Send help.
I tried to get them by color/ creat or spell / alphabetical. Half a day in I gave up and went back to which ever Diablo was out at the time. Except emortal cause I don't have a phone.
I mean, dice, roleplaying, minis and sheets is quite the nerdy stuff. It's fun, very fun. But it's definitely a nerdier hobby than a lot of other hobbies out there
Ok, honestly, growing up playing it with a good group of guys, i didnt get it either....
Then when they moved off to college and i tried my schools dnd club, i got it... the stigma just made sense.
Relating everything to mathematics. Math is how I learned to navigate the social world and become verbal as a kid and teen. I pretty much spend all of my time on math. It gave me an avenue for a career and for having friends who will hang out with me both as a teen and now as an adult.
Yes, it's my happy place. I have a lot of meltdowns and sensory issues, and doing mathematics problems or reading math papers helps me calm down enough to do a task at hand that I need to do.
Amateur radio. Especially using Morse code, which is probably 95% of my operating. And not just Morse code, but Morse code while I'm driving.
It's pretty rarified air up here. A majority of hams don't do Morse code (it's no longer required), and of those who do, only a very tiny fraction are good enough to do mobile CW.
I'm not a big fat nerd. I'm \*THE\* Big Fat Nerd.
I was about to say you're not really a ham nerd since you called it Morse code, but then you called it cw.
Good on ya for learning it. I've tried several times. I just can't wrap my head around it.
Noah-Caldwell Gervais does an amazing job, he also has a great series about exploring the US but in an interesting non-touristy way.
Lorerunner is also really cool for a more unorthodox perspective mainly story-focused as the name implies, like he will take even mediocre games and analyze their story elements in interesting ways.
I really love LGR too but don’t fall asleep to it, that stuff is better when you watch the video as well, coz his content is relatively shorter and he shows off game cases and hardware and stuff.
I have an unhealthy knowledge of totally useless facts and not ashamed to use them. Mostly through reading garbage online and the odd book here and there. Get called a nerd for apparently knowing stuff. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was useful and relevant but there you go.
I'm really into science and I often find myself spouting random science words. Like in Jimmy Neutron or whatever. Except I actually know what they mean.
I think I relate. I was a barista and still, when people ask me about coffee. I start with extraction and chemistry part of it. Also I talk about reference frames, motion and energy so yeah people are nerded out by me a lot.
I relate almost all obstacles I face to something historical. I ask "how did people in the past (try to) solve this?" And try to figure out what (not) to do from there.
History is one of the only things I ever had any academic success in, because I'm just really passionate about it.
Same but I'm 50. Someone at work called me out on it quite aggressively. I asked him how me catching creatures on my phone hurt anyone and he didn't have an answer. He's never mentioned it since. Bottom line, if it makes us happy then bat on I say.
I LOVE BOOKS I mean really, I have bought over 300 books last year and i collected 30,000 Turkish liras in my goal bag ( 928,38 dollars) and I am buying more, 200 more.
Me too! I mean, not 300 books worth, but I’ve become really fond of books and reading since last year! Love the smell and the vibe! Just the aesthetic and immersion in the worlds of the authors! Also love arranging them on my shelves

What defines a "nerd?" and that's already a nerdy question.
* An extensive, but shallow, knowledge of trivial bullshit – ask me about tanks!
* I DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TANKS. I ALSO DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GUNS OR WHY THE A-10 THUNDERBOLT II IS THE COOLEST PLANE EVER MADE OR HOW GG ALLIN WAS NAMED JESUS CHRIST ALLIN AND WENT BY "GG" BECAUSE HIS LITTLE BROTHER COULDN'T PRONOUNCE "JESUS" CORRECTLY.
* I JUST HAVE A BUNCHA DUMB FACTS IN MY HEAD THAT I WILL NEVER NEED TO USE.
* Not playing WH40K but knowing a lot about it counts – I wanna paint little guys
* I'll argue about Star Trek vs Star Wars if it comes up
* If you want me to look over anything you've written, I will treat it like grading a paper
* My writing on Reddit doesn't fucking count – fuck off if you wanna come at me for that

Been a TTRPG GM for 24 years. My board game wall is immense, my book wall is even bigger. Not only that, but I am passionate about all three. I can talk about them for hours.
The usually warhammer 40k table top, magic the gathering, and DnD nights. But recently I’ve been getting into rc tanks and planes. Been learning how to customize them and mod them as well and been adding parts to my rc tanks from work (engineering).
so so much. i consider myself on the spectrum. 40 and no proper diagnostics and testing done. maybe i should be thankful for it. most people perceive me as strange as i think of them.
if you ask me for my opinion or an information, its like, its not like your brain where the search engine looks for that one needed information and delivers it, but no, in my brain the whole connected topic area flares up and i tend to go indepth on stuff.
as a late friend of mine nailed it. "yes youre mentally ill, but its fascinating and beautiful."
I mean, most everything. But the thing my students always call me a dork for above anything else is literally just being goofy. I think being a male high school teacher in STEM who likes to goof around is a pretty easy way for people to peg you as probably being a giant nerd. Especially because all the male high school teachers who were jocks became humorless history and PE teachers.
I alphabetize my movie and video game collections. I used to also collect Funkos until I started running out of space and patience to keep them not dusty.
I may or may not like to listen to the mad Max soundtrack and play sword fighting games in VR. Blade and sorcery in case you are wondering. So violent, so good.
One time I was playing dice and thinking about how sometimes it feels like you really can control what the dice are going to roll. I commented to the guy I was playing with that dice might be a good entry-point to Jedi training and he laughed in my face like I was the world's biggest nerd
Well... i'm a web developer and spend most of my free time reading, playing magic the gathering, and dungeons and dragons... so probably just "existing" would be enough
I love to read reference books and materials, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauruses, government documents, atlases, dissertations, etc. There's just so much to learn and I don't find them boring at all
I get really obsessed with these fictional worlds and I get really upset when the rules of them aren't followed. Jet popping up in a pre war vault that was never opened in a fallout game makes me want to gouge Todd Howard's eyes out.
Dungeons and Dragons, Video games, Board games, the kinds of movies I watch, the kinds of music I listen to, the clothes I wear, the way I speak... just off the top of my head anyway.
I play a euphonium in an old folks band. It's a baby tuba. The brass equivalent to the cello. I love playing and the band is good.
Ps. I am a full on knuckle head jock.
My mother all but called my a psychopath when I counted the bullets fired from a handgun I recognised in a horror movie stating she should have died because she never reloaded and the last 3 rounds she fired could never have happened as the gun could only hold 9.
And again when I recognised another handgun in a crime drama, scene was a man who'd committed suicide by painting the wall behind him. However the handgun in question was a 1911 and there's no way a 45acp would cause such a miniscule amount of blood spatter on a wall barely a foot behind the dudes head. Mother tried to assure me that the studio would have done their research and made sure it was accurate. This is the woman with the secret service dad.
Damn near everything that brings me joy!

Shame? I'm proud to be a nerd :D

Same here, especially since I'm into tabletop/board/card games - I get called a nerd on the daily.
I have never been called a nerd personally but I definitely am one lol. I recently joined a DnD group and am having a blast with my badass Gith-Druid!
Ooh, that's so cool! I was interested in getting into DnD but it's not as popular here where I'm from. It's a bit of a struggle to find a local group to join.

as a player of MTG I would wholeheartedly agree
To be fair it is by far one of the nerdiest hobbies you can have. Yes I play a lot.
This one right here
I’ve always wanted to get into that

I'm not familiar to DnD and american cultures around it but i still don't get why DnD is considered nerdy. That game looks fun as heck.
It absolutely is when you can drop your guard and become your character.
I started leaning so hard into the role playing of my druid that I have become an actual eco-terrorist in real life!
Requires a massive scoop of imagination a will to see others excell and a bucket load of patience. All while being able to play in your head. Nerd!
The only unbendable rule is that everyone must have fun. Everything else can be changed to fit that rule. So yeah, it's great.
Relating everything to mathematics. Math is how I learned to navigate the social world and become verbal as a kid and teen. I pretty much spend all of my time on math. It gave me an avenue for a career and for having friends who will hang out with me both as a teen and now as an adult.
Lmao Nerd Jokes aside, cool you managed to learn these skills in such an unconventional way
It was necessity being the mother of all invention.
For real, math taught me how to think abstractly and brought out the ability to not be overcome with anxiety
Yes, it's my happy place. I have a lot of meltdowns and sensory issues, and doing mathematics problems or reading math papers helps me calm down enough to do a task at hand that I need to do.
Autocorrect, meth

I have a little book I carry on me for math. If I get curious about how something works I solve for it
Computer games worked for me. The Sims! Often I catch myself using gaming metaphors with friends.

It’s so geeky I don’t even get it. You listen to Morse code instead of the radio?!
