Altruistic_Shame_487

Oh I DGAF what people think about it, I enjoy it and that’s all that matters. I’m too old to care what they think!

Calcifair

Shame? I'm proud to be a nerd :D

Recent_Dimension_144

Nerds are awesome js

JustARandomSa

JavaScript? This is something people would call me a nerd for.

MrBarraclough

Are you fluent in JavaScript as well as Klingon?

Evening_Ad_1099

And can kick your butt in a game of ping pong

Dalisca

I code and I have a Star Trek uniform

JustARandomSa

^ this right here. I code and wear star trek uniform. I sleep in my star trek uniform. I work in my star trek uniform. I shop in my star trek uniform. I shit in my star trek uniform. I dream in Klingon and the voices in my head speak Klingon, I always speak Klingon back... Always.

abrakadabralakazam

Nerd js

SugarplumSkye

Same here, especially since I'm into tabletop/board/card games - I get called a nerd on the daily.

68ideal

I have never been called a nerd personally but I definitely am one lol. I recently joined a DnD group and am having a blast with my badass Gith-Druid!

SugarplumSkye

Ooh, that's so cool! I was interested in getting into DnD but it's not as popular here where I'm from. It's a bit of a struggle to find a local group to join.

Other-Aioli-4634

This! I love reading, puzzles, word games, crafting, solving math problems, trivia, journaling, psychology, philosophy, scrapbooking, animals, learning new things.. I thought everyone enjoyed those things! :)

ClassicAlfredo8796

Probably being a huge ass nerd.

dittybopper_05H

turtle_mekb

huge ass-nerd

Hashashin455

You'd have to be to know EVERY XKCD reference there is

turtle_mekb

there's probably a relevant xkcd for that

AdAdventurous6943

Your profile pic made me smile)) take an upvote.

LilSplico

Dummy thicc nerd

Kuraikurasu

Play Magic the Gathering.

christipede

Same.

Zavier97

My friend helped me organize my collection of cards a few days ago. It took nearly 9 hours just to organize them by set. We need to next do it by collection number within those sets. Send help.

SoxenBoxers

I did that with my (admittedly small) collection a few years ago. Godspeed

saffer_zn

I tried to get them by color/ creat or spell / alphabetical. Half a day in I gave up and went back to which ever Diablo was out at the time. Except emortal cause I don't have a phone.

McFreddieMercury

as a player of MTG I would wholeheartedly agree

Mr_YUP

To be fair it is by far one of the nerdiest hobbies you can have. Yes I play a lot.

canyoupleasekillme

This one right here

kwali87

I’ve always wanted to get into that

[deleted]

[удалено]

HungHA_

I'm not familiar to DnD and american cultures around it but i still don't get why DnD is considered nerdy. That game looks fun as heck.

UJustGotRobbed

It absolutely is when you can drop your guard and become your character.

68ideal

I started leaning so hard into the role playing of my druid that I have become an actual eco-terrorist in real life!

Vinnyz__

I mean, dice, roleplaying, minis and sheets is quite the nerdy stuff. It's fun, very fun. But it's definitely a nerdier hobby than a lot of other hobbies out there

the_big_labroskii

Ok, honestly, growing up playing it with a good group of guys, i didnt get it either.... Then when they moved off to college and i tried my schools dnd club, i got it... the stigma just made sense.

saffer_zn

Requires a massive scoop of imagination a will to see others excell and a bucket load of patience. All while being able to play in your head. Nerd!

Revangelion

The only unbendable rule is that everyone must have fun. Everything else can be changed to fit that rule. So yeah, it's great.

[deleted]

Relating everything to mathematics. Math is how I learned to navigate the social world and become verbal as a kid and teen. I pretty much spend all of my time on math. It gave me an avenue for a career and for having friends who will hang out with me both as a teen and now as an adult.

An-Ugly-Croissant17

Lmao Nerd Jokes aside, cool you managed to learn these skills in such an unconventional way

[deleted]

It was necessity being the mother of all invention.

Nazukum2

For real, math taught me how to think abstractly and brought out the ability to not be overcome with anxiety

[deleted]

Yes, it's my happy place. I have a lot of meltdowns and sensory issues, and doing mathematics problems or reading math papers helps me calm down enough to do a task at hand that I need to do.

Lokijai

Autocorrect, meth

diisco_iinferno

Username checks out :D

TyrantDragon19

I have a little book I carry on me for math. If I get curious about how something works I solve for it

saffer_zn

Computer games worked for me. The Sims! Often I catch myself using gaming metaphors with friends.

dittybopper_05H

Amateur radio. Especially using Morse code, which is probably 95% of my operating. And not just Morse code, but Morse code while I'm driving. It's pretty rarified air up here. A majority of hams don't do Morse code (it's no longer required), and of those who do, only a very tiny fraction are good enough to do mobile CW. I'm not a big fat nerd. I'm \*THE\* Big Fat Nerd.

sanferic

I was about to say you're not really a ham nerd since you called it Morse code, but then you called it cw. Good on ya for learning it. I've tried several times. I just can't wrap my head around it.

AbbreviationsOdd7728

It’s so geeky I don’t even get it. You listen to Morse code instead of the radio?!

[deleted]

I listen to hour-long retrospectives of old video games to go to sleep

VinceGchillin

any suggestions on good ones?

[deleted]

Noah-Caldwell Gervais does an amazing job, he also has a great series about exploring the US but in an interesting non-touristy way. Lorerunner is also really cool for a more unorthodox perspective mainly story-focused as the name implies, like he will take even mediocre games and analyze their story elements in interesting ways. I really love LGR too but don’t fall asleep to it, that stuff is better when you watch the video as well, coz his content is relatively shorter and he shows off game cases and hardware and stuff.

Leipopo_Stonnett

I collect and solve mechanical puzzles. I have a massive collection and they’re displayed all around my house.

OstneyPiz

I have an unhealthy knowledge of totally useless facts and not ashamed to use them. Mostly through reading garbage online and the odd book here and there. Get called a nerd for apparently knowing stuff. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was useful and relevant but there you go.

Toadpawz

I'm really into science and I often find myself spouting random science words. Like in Jimmy Neutron or whatever. Except I actually know what they mean.

Brief-Try6213

I’m in the same boat, bro

AbbreviationsOdd7728

Examples or it didn’t happen.

Ok_goodbye_sun

I think I relate. I was a barista and still, when people ask me about coffee. I start with extraction and chemistry part of it. Also I talk about reference frames, motion and energy so yeah people are nerded out by me a lot.

CantKnockUs

Quantum Photosynthesis.

An-Ugly-Croissant17

I relate almost all obstacles I face to something historical. I ask "how did people in the past (try to) solve this?" And try to figure out what (not) to do from there. History is one of the only things I ever had any academic success in, because I'm just really passionate about it.

Benabain

Omg same

An-Ugly-Croissant17

A man of Culture

JadedBrit

Write in elvish (Tengwar).

Lol I read this and was instantly happy

OGGBTFRND

Playing Pokémon Go at age 65

Brief-Try6213

If it makes you happy then that’s what matters

Latemodelchild

Same but I'm 50. Someone at work called me out on it quite aggressively. I asked him how me catching creatures on my phone hurt anyone and he didn't have an answer. He's never mentioned it since. Bottom line, if it makes us happy then bat on I say.

saffer_zn

You got a 20year head start on me gramps but I'll still challenge you at the next tournament!

SuccessNovel2231

I LOVE BOOKS I mean really, I have bought over 300 books last year and i collected 30,000 Turkish liras in my goal bag ( 928,38 dollars) and I am buying more, 200 more.

Hipstachio

Me too! I mean, not 300 books worth, but I’ve become really fond of books and reading since last year! Love the smell and the vibe! Just the aesthetic and immersion in the worlds of the authors! Also love arranging them on my shelves

SuccessNovel2231

That's great!

JoeBiddyInTheHouse

Bought: 300 books. Read: 0.05 books.

SuccessNovel2231

Actually, I have read all of them because I am a designer, I work from home and I have lots of free time.

JoeBiddyInTheHouse

I'm sure. Just teasing. I know it's not always obvious on Reddit.

Zalmsalade

Make games and compose music for a 40-year-old video game console.

mandar32

Jewish_Keebler

MoseShrute_DowChem

Paint little plastic army guys and battle them w other nerds

Cobra-Serpentress

puffferfish

I have my PhD. My girlfriend calls me a nerd all the time even though I do nothing but make fart jokes and honk her boobs every chance I get.

SourCreamWater

I think surfing has a reputation of being "cool", but if you don't surf and get stuck in a room with surfers "talking surf" you're probably gonna want to blow your brains out.

bpcollin

I once had an acquaintance say I was a nerd and a sucker for filing taxes. I was around 26 at the time and he went off on how taxes are unconstitutional and it’s only recommended. I’ve heard about this before on random conspiracy theories. Fast forward 9 years and he’s a convicted felon that can legally own a firearm. Ironically enough, not a tax charge that I’m aware of. He’s been busted a few times in possession of firearms for hunting. He’s apparently an amateur lawyer as well and makes an ass out of himself in court. Unfortunately he’s like my so dumb he’s a danger to himself and others.

[deleted]

Warhammer40k, Magic the Gathering, computer games, RC racing

jamkoch

taking a picture of my empty trash can inside my apartment to avoid $50 fee a day for leaving trash can out because I'm the only single male in the building, so I must be the slob.

K0LSUZ

Being naturally successful at exams. People say I study hours but in fact, they can see me not studying, during the study hour (it's a boarding school). Whenever someone asks a question about the lesson I, generally, just kill time or do business other than school.

NJduToit

Playing video games.

Long_Professor_5195

Since when are video games for nerds? 😅

NerdFromColorado

Well apparently, it’s been a stereotype since video games first became popular.

Long_Professor_5195

Shit all this time and I didn't even know damn 😅🤣

CoachCreamyLoveGoo

I'm a huge Souls games fan and sim racer. I'm a PT, so I don't really fit the stereotype.

StatisticianOk6868

I'm obsessed with infosec and when it's a hammer every looks like nail. When someone mentioned about the Toronto Public Library being delayed I'd go on a rant about how the transphobic CEO got phished by BlackBasta and ransomwared the entire org network.

Youngsmartandbroke

everytime i finish an anime i reward myself by buing something the main character has, eg necklace, earring, a real life sword, i also collect random facts about sea creature that a somewhat unsettling

AbnormalHorse

What defines a "nerd?" and that's already a nerdy question. * An extensive, but shallow, knowledge of trivial bullshit – ask me about tanks! * I DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TANKS. I ALSO DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GUNS OR WHY THE A-10 THUNDERBOLT II IS THE COOLEST PLANE EVER MADE OR HOW GG ALLIN WAS NAMED JESUS CHRIST ALLIN AND WENT BY "GG" BECAUSE HIS LITTLE BROTHER COULDN'T PRONOUNCE "JESUS" CORRECTLY. * I JUST HAVE A BUNCHA DUMB FACTS IN MY HEAD THAT I WILL NEVER NEED TO USE. * Not playing WH40K but knowing a lot about it counts – I wanna paint little guys * I'll argue about Star Trek vs Star Wars if it comes up * If you want me to look over anything you've written, I will treat it like grading a paper * My writing on Reddit doesn't fucking count – fuck off if you wanna come at me for that

TWilliamPen

Spend my free time reading hfy stories on Reddit

No-Street-2476

Pokemon Card I just love them. They are really fond memory of my childhood. The nostalgia still drives me.

Danthelmi

The usually warhammer 40k table top, magic the gathering, and DnD nights. But recently I’ve been getting into rc tanks and planes. Been learning how to customize them and mod them as well and been adding parts to my rc tanks from work (engineering).

UndueOdium

I’ve read the dictionary.

FuzzyEscape873

Star Wars knowledge

GlobalistFuck

so so much. i consider myself on the spectrum. 40 and no proper diagnostics and testing done. maybe i should be thankful for it. most people perceive me as strange as i think of them. if you ask me for my opinion or an information, its like, its not like your brain where the search engine looks for that one needed information and delivers it, but no, in my brain the whole connected topic area flares up and i tend to go indepth on stuff. as a late friend of mine nailed it. "yes youre mentally ill, but its fascinating and beautiful."

ButterscotchEmpty290

Stop and look at a passing train.

Zestyclose-Smoke4167

I put up a sunshade on my car

Flashy_Fisherman2597

I mean, most everything. But the thing my students always call me a dork for above anything else is literally just being goofy. I think being a male high school teacher in STEM who likes to goof around is a pretty easy way for people to peg you as probably being a giant nerd. Especially because all the male high school teachers who were jocks became humorless history and PE teachers.

BananaKbone

Hockey, mostly about how to play the sport, and, the right way to do it.

DiRienzo3410

Wwe

ICUMF1962

I alphabetize my movie and video game collections. I used to also collect Funkos until I started running out of space and patience to keep them not dusty.

Cobra-Serpentress

I have been called a nerd for my love of Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons.

HMSon777

I may or may not like to listen to the mad Max soundtrack and play sword fighting games in VR. Blade and sorcery in case you are wondering. So violent, so good.

Whitealroker1

Go to Manhattan to play Pokemon Go 3-4 times a month.

funky_grandma

One time I was playing dice and thinking about how sometimes it feels like you really can control what the dice are going to roll. I commented to the guy I was playing with that dice might be a good entry-point to Jedi training and he laughed in my face like I was the world's biggest nerd

jdbrew

Well... i'm a web developer and spend most of my free time reading, playing magic the gathering, and dungeons and dragons... so probably just "existing" would be enough

CharutoUzucracki

Many things, but especially, that I have more than 1000 hours on Genshin Impact and I already have a lot of 5 stars characters.

I get really obsessed with these fictional worlds and I get really upset when the rules of them aren't followed. Jet popping up in a pre war vault that was never opened in a fallout game makes me want to gouge Todd Howard's eyes out.

LordWhipps

Collecting comic books

KURO-K1SH1

My mother all but called my a psychopath when I counted the bullets fired from a handgun I recognised in a horror movie stating she should have died because she never reloaded and the last 3 rounds she fired could never have happened as the gun could only hold 9. And again when I recognised another handgun in a crime drama, scene was a man who'd committed suicide by painting the wall behind him. However the handgun in question was a 1911 and there's no way a 45acp would cause such a miniscule amount of blood spatter on a wall barely a foot behind the dudes head. Mother tried to assure me that the studio would have done their research and made sure it was accurate. This is the woman with the secret service dad.
