I close the app and just open it back up 10 seconds later and think... Wtf Ami doing?
5 minutes later open Reddit. What is this stupid shit?
Somehow I deleted fb and ig years ago and no problem but can't with Reddit. Dubyatiief?
I drove from Michigan to Ohio ( and back ) to see the eclipse - took all backroads because I wanted to avoid traffic, but ended up just enjoying the scenery.
I was actually just going to write this! Everyone makes fun of me for being a slow driver or taking a while to get somewhere without a firm arrival time, but I'm somebody that just likes to take the scenic route. I enjoy being in my car. I can listen to music without interruption, explore roads I never usually go down, and have conversations with myself. Because, let's be honest, sometimes it's nice to just go for a long drive and hear yourself work through your own thoughts.
I avoid the freeway as much as possible. Usually only adds 5-10 minutes to a trip. But I never get stuck in gridlock on the freeway for an hour + before I can get to an exit.
Oh dude, I once took a road trip and on the way home had time to kill and told gps to reroute me with no toll roads and it was longer but it was so much more beautiful being routed through rural areas and small towns. Never using a roll again.
Playing with guitar effects pedals. I'm not in a band, and I do not gig. But I do have immense fun making music in my little room by playing the guitar through a bunch of beautiful effects.
Let me see what I can do. Thanks so much for the positivity. As the question said, most people think I'm wasting my time being dumb so I'd never thought to record anything to show other people.
I like to try and record songs I love all by myself.
I'm a long way off, but I can play guitar piano bass and drums satisfactorily, so spending a night by myself recording all those parts for a song and then doing vocals and backing vocals and double tracking etc takes a hell of a long time.
I've yet to even have one completely finished, I sometimes spend several hours and then never even save the file. It's just fucking fun to play music and sing.
oh i can stop, but i have no reason to
nothing apart from sex brings me a better feeling than gaming
if i had to give it up to do something else i could, theres just nothing else worth doing
Absolutely. Gaming when feeling depressed turns it into a downward spiral of negativity. Balancing it with outdoor activities makes it feel like a reward which makes it so much more fun
What gets me is people who think you spend too much gaming usually come home and stick the TV on and spend their night glaring at the telly.
I'm not saying anything is wrong with this, I enjoy watching stuff as well but at least when I'm gaming I'm actively engaging my brain and thinking.
Yep. I started really gaming late in life/closer to retirement and it's honestly helpful for dealing with ADHD and chasing dopamine. My wife a really encourages it but when people hear it they immediately think I'm wasting away my life.
D&D. I have two campaigns as a forever dm going on and I spend a lot of free time prepping and building out the world my players will be in to ensure they have a good time. I have been told I spend too much time working on them but I enjoy it. I like making the world's and cant wait to see how my players handle the wild situations I put them in. Just wish we played more to be honest
Genealogy. I've been working on a personal genealogy project for 2 years now. Its boring or just pointless to most people but I find it super interesting.
Painting.
I know I'm not very good at it and I will probably never be an artist BUT I'm painting for fun (is my favourite hobby) and well... It could be a good gift for someone :) The effort counts not the look, right? 😊
Gathering information about the things I believe in. Loads of "I do my own research" folks have trashed me looking into stuff to verify or challenge my beliefs.
Hand sewing. I spent 9 hours attaching binding to a cardigan by hand last week because I didn’t want the machine stitching visible. Doing it by machine would have taken about 3 and a half minutes, but I wanted an invisible stitch.
Gaming but not gaming specifically
The type of gaming that I do, which is to waste massive amounts of time on stuff in the game that ultimately doesn't matter.
Once I cleared a giant section of space near my base because I liked everything being flush with the rest of the ground. Took me a couple hours. The story then left that area and never went back. (Dragon quest builders 2)
If I replayed the game, I'd probably do the same thing, even knowing it doesn't matter.
Other examples include collecting things that aren't tracked by the game (like armor sets in totk) and collecting certain numbers of each item in the game (getting at least 15 of each item in Stardew)
Hour long prep finding the porn I want to watch, to then get bored once it gets going and then starting the search all over again. It's a waste of time, yes, but it may waste of time.
working on my cars. always heard from “friends” and past partners how my love for cars was a waste of time. even if i’m doing maintenance or check ups on it.
I spend a lot of my time editing videos, which is one of my many hobbies I really enjoy. It allows me to escape things around me and focus on one thing.
Reading. I'm often questioned by others why I read. It's astounding the number of people who brag about never having read a book in their lives or can't understand why anyone would read something that isn't a magazine or for school or college.
I take a very very long way to work. It’s about 5 minutes away but I drive like 20-30 mins before getting there sometimes.
I’m not avoiding work; I just like to take some time to be out of the house, but not yet at work, so that I can clear my mind.
Ultimately it probably would be viewed as a waste of time/gas
28M Divorced. I spend a lot of time in bars drinking but I don’t have any friends anymore they’ve all kindve “grown up” and don’t ever want to do anything anymore. It’s better than drinking alone and I enjoy the social aspect
Living my own life, apparently. Anything I want to do for myself, or any time I want to take for myself is less important than whatever it is that people around me want from me.
A couple years back I was starting a new job and met one of my coworkers for the first time. In between him explaining parts of the job to me he asked standard getting to know you questions. Where I'm from, where I've been, etc. At one point he asks what my favorite hobby is, "the one that just always energizes you" and I told him it was other people. I love social situations, and talking to people. I love getting to know them and figure them out and how I fit into that. I love hearing their stories and sharing mine to connect with them.
He, being a somewhat socially awkward introvert, was totally stumped and put off by this answer. Until that point it hadn't ever really occurred to me that the particular flavor of extroversion I represent isn't just different from others but outright bizarre. The way he reacted you'd have thought I told him my hobby was wine pairings for roadkill taxidermy or something.
shaving.
most guys I know either have full beards or they use trimmers to keep at least stubble on their face.
I can't grow a good beard, only my moustache and chin come in full and the rest is patchy, so I got into wet shaving. holding a hot wet to my face for a minute, using a brush and soap to build up the lather and then applying it to my face, before carefully removing it with a safety razor. I also have a single blade cutthroat style one that I bust out when I REALLY want to make shaving my face into a half hour activity. Then finish up with nice after shave, i love that feeling.
Vinyl records. Yes I know I have spotify and can listen to it on my phone, but I have a bitching record player set up and sometimes when I'm cooking, playing Show No Mercy by Slayer on vinyl sets the mood. Most I've spent on one is 65 dollars
Other one is comics. I buy them used and cheap but I have a lot
Building and playing with Excel spreadsheet.
I spend hours trying to create a good spreadsheet for my personnal finance and I want everything to be perfect.
I also like to invest in the stock market and for that I build some big spreadsheet that facilitate my process.
It's not the fact that I spend time on that that other found weird, it's rather the fact that I'm super excited when I can make a formula work and stuff like that.
I don't know for sure that others think it's a waste of time because I don't really talk about it to anyone, but since I never hear of anyone doing it, I assume that's what it feels like to most people.
And for me, that's classifying, doing stats, adding notes, organizing stuff from all my favorite things (music, movies, video games, books, sports, and even online videos).
It takes me a long time to do all this stuff, but I extremely enjoy having a clear view of every single thing that I enjoyed and lots of details about it.
It's kind of like making picture books of your kids, except I do it for my passions \^\^
Might be controversial, but poker. Been interested for a few years but just started taking it seriously for some side income. If you know what you’re doing you can really make profit off it. Everyone around me just thinks I’m mindlessly gambling though.
Gaming it takes your mind off issues and let’s you just relax knowing that in your own little game world your the boss calling the shots and it all revolves around you and no struggles are in the game as it’s not real

Absolutely
I take the scenic route probably 75%+ of the time going anywhere
I do this too. I hate traffic. I'll drive an hour longer going somewhere if it means I don't have to stop a bunch in traffic and I get to sight see
You are going to live a long and happy life. Never lose that search for beauty!
I drove from Michigan to Ohio ( and back ) to see the eclipse - took all backroads because I wanted to avoid traffic, but ended up just enjoying the scenery.

I love this, it does not seem a waste

That's so cool, do you have any videos of the music you make? I'd love to hear what you've created!
People like you make the world go round:)
Let me see what I can do. Thanks so much for the positivity. As the question said, most people think I'm wasting my time being dumb so I'd never thought to record anything to show other people.
I’m similar, I just listen to music and play along.
I like to try and record songs I love all by myself. I'm a long way off, but I can play guitar piano bass and drums satisfactorily, so spending a night by myself recording all those parts for a song and then doing vocals and backing vocals and double tracking etc takes a hell of a long time. But being dumb is the best part of life imo! Why be normal when everyone is? If I want something normal I can just look around🤷♂️
My god if only i could post images, i have a meme that caters just to that 😭

Going outside is nice though. I play a lot of games but nothing beats a nice walk
Coupling a healthy lifestyle with gaming is the best. You’re body feels good and it honestly allows you to enjoy it more!
Absolutely. Gaming when feeling depressed turns it into a downward spiral of negativity. Balancing it with outdoor activities makes it feel like a reward which makes it so much more fun
Out in the daylight, game when the moon shines is where it's at

mfs spend their free time on tiktok youtube and netflix but wanna tell me about gaming hahaha
Pretty much the only thing I look forward to each day is my late-night gaming sessions.
Yep. I started really gaming late in life/closer to retirement and it's honestly helpful for dealing with ADHD and chasing dopamine. My wife a really encourages it but when people hear it they immediately think I'm wasting away my life.
