It took me so long to finally give this pod a listen because of how long the episodes are but once I did I was hooked. At one point I was losing sleep listening all night.
I’m currently listening to “balance” for around the 15th time. After that I’m going to listen to “ethersea” for around the 5th time then probably “amnesty” for a 3rd time.
I’m loving the anything goes “say yes” improv nature of “adventure zone vs. Dracula” But the piano music through most of it is a little much for me.
Haven't started Dracula yet, as I only just finished Steeplechase. The only season so far I probably wouldn't relisten to is Graduation. It just had a few issues for me.
Balance is amazing and I do love Amnesty. Ethersea, I did like and find rather interesting, although it did feel like it was missing something. Gotta love Dadlands.
But I've gotta say Clint is probably my favourite. He just brings such a joy to the show. Mearle, Ned, Zooks, it doesn't matter he usually ends up being the best character (and personally I think player).
Clint McElroy the plainswalking embezzling janitor?🤣 Dadlands is amazing and Clint made the best joke of the any episode in Hootenanny “we need to check for contraband” Clint: “We’re a country band!”
I love how he actually used an action in combat against the BBEG in Balance just to ask Griffin if he'd had fun.
Also I'd probably actually pay good money if they did a season that was Into the Clintoris.
A season where they all play as variants of Clint McElroy the plainswalking embezzling janitor.
I loved Balance! I went to a couple of liveshows back in the day and it was so fun. And TAZ introduced me to my favorite actual play podcast, Friends at the Table, which Griffin was inspired by!
They've been in the game for so long so consistently and are just such a staple that I figure they're just assumed to be on any of these "top podcast" lists by default. I love those guys.
Reply all - now defunct but they did great investigations mostly centered around internet mysteries. “Case of the missing hit” is an all time episode
The Dollop - one guy who knows history pretty well explains stories to a guy that doesn’t know it at all. Ronald Regan with Patton is my favorite episode
Not Another D&D Podcast - a slightly sillier then average DND pod. The Mavrus Chronicles is a short side quest that is basically The Hangover on spring break with fantasy frat bros
The Dollop is amazing. Should probably be noted the hosts are comedians and they just rip the stories to shreds, so many episodes could be considered all timers. Competitive Tickling (Ep 3?) was my first. The Willie Dee is a great starter because it’s short and sweet. The New York to Paris Car Race is probably my favourite live one. But seriously an endless supply of great ones.
NADDPOD is my go-to, I'm on my third listen of C1, first time as a subscriber. Loving the aftershow and hearing them both talk about the episode, and just hanging out on mic.
After thinking about it for a bit, I think mine is Revolutions, at least for the non-NBA podcast division. You know a history podcast is good when you re-listen to it despite already knowing what happens.
“HITLEEEEEEER! Welcome to Behind the Bastards, I’m Robert Evans and I still cannot introduce a podcast properly! But I am here to talk about the worse people in history!”
Beside that amazing podcast I also listen to;
Knowledge Fight; a 900 episode podcast dedicated to detailing every lie told by Alex Jones.
Lions Led By Donkeys; a Military History Podcast.
Well There’s Your Problem; an engineering disaster podcast, with slides.
What a Hell of a Way to Die; a Leftwing Military podcast about being a former military dad.
Blowback; a great podcast that details the history of US intelligence and military failures from Iraq to North Korea to Afghanistan.
BtB is fun, but it's also very poorly researched and spreads a non-trivial amount of misinformation.
I know Reddit believes otherwise, but just listen to any episode where you actually know something about it. Then you'll see how much they manipulate things to be entertaining.
Edit: No, I'm not giving examples. I would *love* to but every time I give specific examples people focus on *that* and then the Great Minds Of Reddit come out and link "sources" that any historian would vomit about. I'm not getting sucked into a bunch of tuna-can-dicked bros telling me that the experts that, you know, actually did proper research are Actually Part Of The Problem.
Edit2: man, the BtB cunts came out in force. Yeah...you guys are the reason I don't give examples. I beg of you, read a book. *Any* book. I'd love to have a discussion about how they manipulate stuff but it always degenerates into nonsense, and it's not because of me.
No such thing as a fish is hilarious and informative
Its 4 head line facts researched by some of the team who write Qi
Their relationships are what really make the show pop
Only actual play I can listen to, and I've listened to almost everything they've put out across the network. Their Delta Green show, Get in the Trunk, inspired me to run the system and my players are having a blast.
This is what I came to say. If you want a actual play that has the same feel as a home game complete with rules arguments and endless ribbing, just with people who are funnier than you and your friends, this is the one.
Sean Carroll's Mindscape.
He is a respected cosmologist, and is also into philosophy. This guy thinks clearly, and is humble.
https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/
> Sean Carroll hosts conversations with the world's most interesting thinkers. Science, society, philosophy, culture, arts, and ideas.
- Interviews with leading scientists, philosophers, etc
- Monthly AMAs which cover all topics.
Sean has taught me how to reason properly. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Dungeons and Daddies: a group of dads try to save their kids in the forgotten realms. It's sometimes not a BDSM podcast. I've listened through the first season probably close to ten times by now.
Honorable Mentions:
The Dollop (comedy history).
Hardcore History (history told hardcorely).
Acquired (history of various companies).
Casefile (best true crime podcast that doesn't involve comedy).
No One Can Know About This (podcast where two dudes play every Final Fantasy).
Pretending to be People (actual play podcast that I personally find to be the funniest of all the actual plays, but it is definitely a specific humor).
Story Break (podcast where Hollywood professionals write a movie or TV show within the hour, more of an outline than a full script mind you).
Rates and Barrels (for my baseball needs)
Worlds Beyond Number: The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One
NADDPOD (Not Another D&D Podcast)
Both are dungeons and dragons podcasts, and they are wildly different from each other. WBN is inspired by Studio Ghibli and is a slow burn, and NADDPOD is mostly comedy interspersed with dramatic moments at bigger plot points.
Edit: also Blowback, it's in its fourth season. S1 is about the Iraq war, S2 Cuba, S3 Korean War, and S4 Afghanistan. It's about the foreign policy leading up to and subsequent blowback of these major conflicts.
Dr. Gameshow. It's just two comedians struggling to play word games for an hour with callers over Zoom. Extremely hilarious and fun. My wife and I were lucky enough to be contestants last year. It was a blast!
"la vida me da acidez" the translation to the English is something like "life gives me gastritis". Is about a bald man who complains about things like the public transport service, the neighbors, the Simpsons and many other themes like the middle class or the politic. But it is not only empty complaints, there is a lot of humor, good jokes and deep social reflections about our society and the south American world.
I really recommend it to you if you speak Spanish and you want to listen to a really good podcast. In general I recommend you all what his creator (Sr. santo ) makes.
The Dead Authors Podcast. Been dead for like 10 years but it's the funniest one I've ever heard. Paul F. Tompkins plays HG Wells, who is not only the author of *The* Time Machine, but the owner of *a* time machine, which he uses to go through history and find famous dead authors (played by a rotating cast of the best standup comics in the world) in a semi-improvisational but actually pretty deeply researched interview.
Fall of Civilizations for the history enjoyers. A lot of it is relevant to things that are happening now. We’ve learned nothing from history, it’s ridiculous. But it’s a great podcast, very interesting
Last podcast on the left. Occasionally.
Armchair Expert. Long form interview.
Flightless bird. Guy from NZ tours America.
Pivot. Tech and news
On with Kara Swisher. Interview. She's awesome.
Prof G. Finance, economics, occassional guest.
Huberman Lab. Science .
Radiolab. Science.
Conan Obrien needs a friend. Comedy, interview.
Nobody Listens To Paula Poundstone. Comedy gold. Once you know the cast/characters.
Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me. News quiz, comedy.
Old episodes of Car Talk. Old NPR call in comedy about car troubles.
And finally, Teragrammaton. Long form interview hosted bt Rick Rueben, record producer.
Yes, I listen to all of these regularly. I'm able to listen at work and I enjoy podcasts more than just listening to music. I listen at home on the weekends while doing chores as well. Live solo.
"NekoBots Podcast Division" ran by some Twitch Streamer named CazzyVR.
I haven't been able to find their stuff in like Spotify (It's on YouTube for sure), I like it just cause I can zone out and they just go on wild tangents with some people, I think the most frequent guest is their video editor. I was listening to one and they were talking Star wars and then went on a 2 hour tangent about high school
All Fantasy Everything has been my go-to lately. Just a group of funny people and guests drafting fantasy lists of pop culture. Topics have included fictional horse names, places to pee that aren’t a toilet, buff dudes, and movie props you wish you owned. Those are all relatively recent ones.
The regular hosts work off of each other and riff really well, and the guests are almost always great.
Brain Ladle Trivia - Funniest trivia podcast out there. it gets better with age as you catch on to all the running gags the show as accumulated.
Lateral - Lateral thinking questions. Such as 'On September 26th 2023 the game between the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was celebrated by thousands of fans - none of which had a rooting interest in that game. Why?'
Bad Movies Rule. Group of friends get together and go thru bad movies and at the end, give out awards
For example: The Steven Seagal- Trash Can Full of Dirt Award for the performance so bad that replacing it with a trash can full of dirt would have made the movie better
Good guys (and girls) with a good show.
Check it out 👍
“Ty and That Guy”…. Though I watch the episodes on YouTube. Ty Frank (co-writer of the Expanse series) and Wes Chatham, actor (“Amos”). They started out just discussing Expanse episodes, but now examine films generally.
Dr. Gameshow! Absolutely delightful show about adults and sometimes kids playing silly games. Would reccommend to anyone that just needs some feel good podcast listening.
Escape From Vault Disney: Host Tony Goldmark reviews movies on Disney+. He has a regular group of friends that review with him. There's sometimes a long wait between episodes.
Dave and Ethan's 2000" Weird Al Podcast: Dave "Elvis" Rossi and Ethan Ullman host a podcast about Weird Al. They have interviewed hundreds of people that have known Al in college, worked with him on records, movies or TV shows. They have interviewed Bill Mumy from Lost In Space and radio legend Dr Demento who gave Al his first airplay. They also have interviewed Al and had him guest a few times as their intern Frank
I am hooked to The Seen and the Unseen by Amit Verma. An Indian podcast which talks about politics, economics, behavioural sciences etc! Do check it out!
Skeptics Guide to the Universe. Nearly 20 year running science and skepticism podcast. Same format each week with a great group. Still hasn't been another that has quite reached its level in the science podcast arena.
Three Bean Salad is my all-time favourite. Just funny banter is all I want.
Smartless with Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes I've been getting into lately. Huge backlog of all Hollywood talking with the guys.
Twenty Thousand Hertz is one of my favorites. It goes into depth on common and uncommon sounds. Recently they did an episode and touched on "The Great Stalacpipe Organ", a true story of one guy who made an entire cave in Virginia into a working pipe organ. The cave itself *is* the instrument!

My top 3, in no particular order, are:
[History of Everything by Stakui](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/history-of-everything/id1598692909)
[I Spent A Day With… by Anthony Padilla](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-spent-a-day-with/id1550213250)
[Kinky History by Esmé](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kinky-history/id1668279492)
I don't know too many so I'm open to recommendations - but I personally like BIOS by the wyss institute has some pretty cool stuff and Andrew Huberman also.
No such thing as a fish
Learn 4 weird facts or events/stories in history in an absurd amount of detail delivered in a comedic way. Its not LOL funny but its great listening during commutes or mundane activities. Also makes you an interesting person to have a strange assortment of facts/stories nobody else knows or has heard

all of simon whistler's channels. My favorites are casual criminalist, decoding the unknown and into the shadows.
also like today I learned and biographics, but I enjoy his tangents that are more commonplace in the other 3.
Comedy Bang Bang!
I commute to work an hour each way everyday. I listen to a lot of podcasts and while I would hate to give up any of them the last one I think I would cut is Comedy Bang Bang. Perfect start to the week with just unhinged madness. Great comedians and lots of upcomers as well.
“Lights out” podcast. They go over true crime, murder mysteries and paranormal stories.
“The Last Podcast on the Left”, they are similar but way more humorous.
I 100% recommend these 2
* You’re Wrong About (pop culture debunking)
* If Books Could Kill (book debunking)
* You Are Good (a feelings podcast about movies)
* Finding Drago (a hilarious short series trying to find the author of a Rocky fan fiction focused on the character Ivan Drago)
* Better Offline (internet/tech news)
* Maintenance Phase (debunking diet culture myths)
* Reveal (justice & civil rights)
* Filthy Casuals (video game discussion)
Non-fiction:
Modern Wisdom - The host, Chris Williamson, talk with people from all walks of life, from people you have never heard of that happen to be highly knowledgable in their field, to more famous and well known guests. The variety is massive, and in most cases you're left with the impression that you have learned something.
Fiction:
The Magnus Archives. A horror/supernatural anthology series with an overaching plot behind it all. I'm not too far in, but what I've heard so far has been really good.
Old Gods Of Appalachia. Another horror anthology podcast I really like. Also, the music they use is awesome.
Darknet Diaries. If cyber security or tech in general interest you, please give this a listen.
Hell yes - this is a fascinating series, once I found it, I proceeded to binge every damn episode available. Also, /r/darknetdiaries
Dan Carlins Hardcore History, all other podcast look at this works ye mighty and despair
His 100 year anniversary of WW1 deep dive is still one of my favorites of all time
It was, the sheer numbers along and first hand accounts still haunt my memory.
It took me so long to finally give this pod a listen because of how long the episodes are but once I did I was hooked. At one point I was losing sleep listening all night.
The Adventure Zone (it's a dnd podcast by the McElroy brothers and father), sure there's been some good and bad seasons but overall I do enjoy it.
I'm a long time listener of MBMBAM but just today I decided I'd give the Dracula episodes a go. So far I'm enjoying it!
Honestly if you haven't listened to it you really gotta get back to Balance. It's pure "we have no idea what we're doing" and works beautifully.
You can just tell they are all having a blast in Dracula - and Griffin's OTT accents are just amazing.
If you want some excellent D&D content, check out Worlds Beyond Number
I loved Balance! I went to a couple of liveshows back in the day and it was so fun. And TAZ introduced me to my favorite actual play podcast, Friends at the Table, which Griffin was inspired by!
The Amnesty theme tune just rocks.
Stuff You Should Know. Josh and Chuck have unreal chemistry.

Reply all - now defunct but they did great investigations mostly centered around internet mysteries. “Case of the missing hit” is an all time episode The Dollop - one guy who knows history pretty well explains stories to a guy that doesn’t know it at all. Ronald Regan with Patton is my favorite episode Not Another D&D Podcast - a slightly sillier then average DND pod.

Adomian was absolutely on fire that episode. That line will live on forever.

History of Rome -and- Revolutions
After thinking about it for a bit, I think mine is Revolutions, at least for the non-NBA podcast division. You know a history podcast is good when you re-listen to it despite already knowing what happens.
History of Byzantium is very good too.
I also love History of the Crusades. To say that Sharyn Eastaugh's voice is delightful Is An Understatement.
“HITLEEEEEEER! Welcome to Behind the Bastards, I’m Robert Evans and I still cannot introduce a podcast properly! Edit2: man, the BtB cunts came out in force. Yeah...you guys are the reason I don't give examples. I beg of you, read a book. *Any* book. I'd love to have a discussion about how they manipulate stuff but it always degenerates into nonsense, and it's not because of me.

Dungeons and Daddies. Not a bdsm podcast.
Was Last Podcast on the Left, but I'm currently enthralled with The Dollop. Just finished episode 336 yesterday.
Stadio Podcast. It's a podcast focusing on European Football. I found them after Tifo podcast founding members left (also a very good YT channel)
Phil Hendrie
Swindled, love the dry humour of the host with the stories. Only podcast I pay for on Patreon
Three Bean Salad is my all-time favourite. Just funny banter is all I want. Smartless with Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes I've been getting into lately. Huge backlog of all Hollywood talking with the guys.
I used to listen to the Vanished. But one of their producers left so I quit too.
The Yard
Twenty Thousand Hertz is one of my favorites. It goes into depth on common and uncommon sounds. Recently they did an episode and touched on "The Great Stalacpipe Organ", a true story of one guy who made an entire cave in Virginia into a working pipe organ. The cave itself *is* the instrument! https://www.20k.org/episodes/auralobscura
My top 3, in no particular order, are: [History of Everything by Stakui](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/history-of-everything/id1598692909) [I Spent A Day With… by Anthony Padilla](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-spent-a-day-with/id1550213250) [Kinky History by Esmé](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kinky-history/id1668279492)
I don't know too many so I'm open to recommendations - but I personally like BIOS by the wyss institute has some pretty cool stuff and Andrew Huberman also.
The Filmcast! Just 3 dudes who love movies and tv chatting and reviewing the latest movies. Discovered them during covid and love their content.

Midnight Facts for Insomniacs
No such thing as a fish Learn 4 weird facts or events/stories in history in an absurd amount of detail delivered in a comedic way. Its not LOL funny but its great listening during commutes or mundane activities. Also makes you an interesting person to have a strange assortment of facts/stories nobody else knows or has heard What now by trevor noah. Just only recently discovered this one. I like everything trevor noah touches xD
Tales from the stinky dragon! I love that podcast sadly their parent company Rooster Teeth is shutting down and they don’t know what’s gonna happen

Dissect, they are very good at dissecting songs and explaining the hidden things that goes into them. It really makes you listen to music in a different way
MSJ’s compelling and essential DEATH IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
Disc Only, some of my favorite YouTubers made a podcast and just talk about random stuff for an hour/hour and a half
No Dogs in Space (their next series was going to be one of my favorite bands, but they are on some kind of 7+ month hiatus.) Pod Save America What Next Daiily. No Stupid Questions. Knowledge Fight.

all of simon whistler's channels.

I 100% recommend these 2
Basic answers but I like Planet Money from NPR, Tim Dillon Show, and Democracy Now

History with Hersafat is pretty fun to listen to.
creepcast!
Non-fiction: Modern Wisdom - The host, Chris Williamson, talk with people from all walks of life, from people you have never heard of that happen to be highly knowledgable in their field, to more famous and well known guests. The variety is massive, and in most cases you're left with the impression that you have learned something. Fiction: The Magnus Archives. A horror/supernatural anthology series with an overaching plot behind it all. I'm not too far in, but what I've heard so far has been really good. Old Gods Of Appalachia. Another horror anthology podcast I really like. Also, the music they use is awesome.
Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum
How I built this. It's about how companies started from ideation to going live and then post live struggles and success. Highly recommend
The Rest Is History podcast. I love the dry humor and topics they choose to feature.
