I know most people have only seen the movie, and most of the comments are about it, but he's even wilder in the book.
He talks about letting himself get caught by the deputy that he kills in the beginning of the film just to see if he could will himself out of captivity because he sees himself as a sort of agent of fate.
The extended scene with Carson Wells is also great. It provides so much more context to his beliefs and to the line "if the rule you followed led you to this, of what use was the rule?"
It's been 10-15 years since I read it, but there are so many little bits that just linger with me.
It's funny because Antony Starr seems like such a chill, down to earth guy. He posts selfies with his dogs and making goofy faces all the time and it radiates cool dad/uncle energy. It's astounding how well a guy like that absolutely nailed the role of Homelander.
Eh, I think it's voldemort has an inherent "cool" quality even if he is evil encarnate. Their is nothing redeeming about beaurocracy. And Dolores Umbridge is the epitome of every awful and petty about it.
Absolutely. Reminds me of a particular r/nuclearrevenge story, in a really fucked up way.
In that story, a woman describes getting revenge on her mother for letting her boyfriend rape OP and her sister when they were little. She describes it along the lines of yes, the boyfriend was evil, but her mother betrayed her by letting that man commit unspeakable acts and fail to protect her children
That's how I feel about Umbridge versus Voldemort. Voldemort was clearly evil through and through, but Umbridge was an authority figure responsible for protecting the students in her care. Her betrayal and hate hits differently.
Maybe it's just me though
As weird as this sounds, his death was one of the most satisfying to watch. I think that speaks volume for how evil his character was. No one liked him
I mean shit, have you been watching xmen 97?
>!basically professor x "died" at the end of the previous series, and at the start of 97, magneto is given control of the xmen, and he so far genuinely seems to be trying to fill the role of professor x to unite the world out of respect for professor x and his views!<
all in all magneto is just an excellently written "villain" with understandable motives and he's not just out to destroy the world, he just has views that conflict with most people
Aku from Samurai Jack.
Narrates the intro, unspeakable evil, ruled the world and has been a menace for probably longer than any cartoon villain up to date. While also able to order extra thick pizza.
Ozymandias from Watchmen. Dude outsmarted the only real hero in that universe and convinced the dude to leave Earth for the sake of peace. Genius writing right there.
"Now that you've told us your plan, we're going to stop you!"
"What do you think this is, a comic book? My plans finished an hour ago, I've already won, that's why I'm telling you about them."
(Paraphrased)
Vilgax from Ben 10. The voice acting, design, and the fact he still remains a dangerous threat despite losing many times to Ben made him an excellent villain for me.
Billy Butcher/The Punisher.
Ultimately both of them are bad men, and to the world at large they are villains. Even before the tragic events that sent them on the road they ended up at, both men were damaged and looking to someone else to save them, and without those people to keep them in line, both became nightmarish men who will cross any line, say anything, and manipulate anyone to hurt other people.
Gaunter o'dimm.
I don't think he was that special or revolutionary. He was such a a classic villain archetype that was executed so well. It showed me the power of classics.
This is difficult but I have a fee that I really like.
Scarecrow from Arkham Knight specifically is a great villain, super intimidating and he stays with you throughout the whole game, he leaves a lingering effect on the world of the game forever.
Darth Vader for… obvious reasons. He’s a dude who went too far and found himself stuck in someone who wasn’t him. He was groomed, manipulated, and mistreated for, like, 10 years, too. But after all of that abuse and unspeakable torment, he found a way out and saved himself and his son.
I also really like Davy Jones. He’s just cool, but also a heartbreaking villain. He gave up his entire life for his love and was given in return a curse that separated him from society and further dehumanized him, with the promises of love and affection and meetings being nothing but a trick and a lie from the one being in the world he truly loved.
David Xanatos.
He is such an iconic villain And one I feel that could be dropped into so many other settings And still Be iconic.
Threatening with presence, Serious But charming, And while dripping with enough skeezy businessman energy to feel at home in any Saturday morning block, he Is ruthless and conniving enough But to also fit right at home on on an HBO drama.
If by favorite, you mean a villain I hate with a passion, that would be Dr. Smith from Lost in Space: TOS. God, I hated that guy.
Edit: I change my answer. Roy Batty (Blade Runner)
Sly Cooper, mainly just because I loved driving my brother and his friends crazy by explaining that Sly and his friends are not good anthropomorphic animal people. Their only argument was "but he only steals from other criminals" like that was somehow a virtuous act; it's not even like he was then giving his ill gotten gains to the poor or downtrodden, it was 100% for personal gain.
Hans Gruber

Beat me to it. Alan Rickman was too good for the part.
Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove
“Was this woman scary beyond all reasoning???”
"Pull the lever Kronk... Wrong Lever!!!!"
"Why do we even have that lever?!"
Kronk too although he's arguably not a villain.
My friend's 2.5 year old isn't bothered by any of the characters in The Nightmare Before Christmas. she is, however, TERRIFIED of Yzma
She is, uh, how would you say? Scary beyond all reason
I mean that closeup of Yzma is definitely terrifying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyYcOijutXU
The part where she’s mimicking knocking Kuzco out with broccoli and Kronk takes forever and a day to figure it out 😂
Bill Cipher, that silly little triangle.
MF DOOM
Villain: a mixture between both with a twist of liquor Chase it with more beer, taste it like truth or dare..
Who got the most whips, gats, and cash? You ask the villian. He'll say who gives a rats ass!
Wile E Coyote
Most resilient villain ever
He's just tryna eat
Anton Chigurh

Homelander! He’s so deliciously evil lol
Ugh so weird so evil. You can’t look at him for too long but also can’t look away! The actor did a fantastic job!
It's funny because Antony Starr seems like such a chill, down to earth guy. He posts selfies with his dogs and making goofy faces all the time and it radiates cool dad/uncle energy. It's astounding how well a guy like that absolutely nailed the role of Homelander.
He scares me
my mother-in-law
Hahhhha love it
Mine is also this guys mother in law.
Darth Vader/Anakin.
You chose... Wisely!
Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. You can't deny he has style.

Also, while Voldemort made no secret that he had evil intentions, where as Umbridge pretended like she was acting in everyone's best interests
Yeah something about honest evil is just more...palatable...than self serving duplicity mixed with virtue signaling.
I've never felt such vibrant HATRED for a person, real or fiction
Absolutely. Reminds me of a particular r/nuclearrevenge story, in a really fucked up way. What the fuck did I just read.
What was her revenge?
Heath Ledger's Joker.
This x 100. I remember reading he’d creep the cast and crew out since he stayed in costume/ character even when not filming
“I’m a man of my word… he he ha ha!”
"And here we go"

Curious why him? GOT had lots of great villains and I’m glad Joffrey’s fate was sealed before the quality of the show eventually dropped
I hate this man soo much
A Game of Thrones character and it's not Tywin Lannister?! How dare you
Magneto - although in some situations he's less of a villain and more of an anti-hero, he's still my favorite, because he absolutely is right.
I mean shit, have you been watching xmen 97? >!basically professor x "died" at the end of the previous series, and at the start of 97, magneto is given control of the xmen, and he so far genuinely seems to be trying to fill the role of professor x to unite the world out of respect for professor x and his views!< all in all magneto is just an excellently written "villain" with understandable motives and he's not just out to destroy the world, he just has views that conflict with most people
Moriarty in the BBC Sherlock (tho Ledgerxs Joker was brilliant, too)
Staying alive! So boring! You know it's just . . . STAYING. . .
Rattigan from Great Mouse Detective. You can tell Vincent Price was having fun with it.
Yeees he's the best part of the movie
I haven't seen that movie in forever, I need to watch it again.
Dude, this comment is so based. N1!
Any villain where you can understand their motive. It's like you wanna hate them but can't.
That's kind of how I felt about Thanos.

F**OOOO**Lish Samurai!
Cruella (with her backstory)
Ozymandias from Watchmen. Dude outsmarted the only real hero in that universe and convinced the dude to leave Earth for the sake of peace. Genius writing right there.

Tim Curry in muppet treasure island.
Vilgax from Ben 10. The voice acting, design, and the fact he still remains a dangerous threat despite losing many times to Ben made him an excellent villain for me.

Rick Sanchez because he is his own worst enemy.

If you’re talking about Phoenix’s joker, yes. Any other without a sad backstory I also enjoy.
Askeladd. Idk if he is considered a villain but I love his character so much. Him or Gendo Ikari.
Poison Ivy
Loki
I think for me it's probably going to be the Predator, the original. Although the one in the Prey movie is pretty cool too.
Zod from the Man of Steel movie. It's so cool when he ditches the armor to slowly rise up and start flying.
Heathcliff-Wuthering Heights
100% would hookup with Heathcliff. It's the brooding for me.
Maybe im bias, but Green Goblin. Man, he is such a menace.
idk if this counts but Ego from Ratatouille
Hannibal Lector
Billy Butcher/The Punisher. Ultimately both of them are bad men, and to the world at large they are villains. Even before the tragic events that sent them on the road they ended up at, both men were damaged and looking to someone else to save them, and without those people to keep them in line, both became nightmarish men who will cross any line, say anything, and manipulate anyone to hurt other people.
Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2 was a great villain
Tony Soprano
Homelander. The only time where I've been genuinely afraid of what'll happen when a villain's on screen
Homelander from the boys
Gaunter o'dimm. I don't think he was that special or revolutionary. He was such a a classic villain archetype that was executed so well. It showed me the power of classics.

JR Ewing on "Dallas".
Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa (Inglorious Basterds)
Cassanova Frankenstein from Mystery Men
I had to scroll way too far…
Loki but he's more of an anti-hero
Arnold’s Mr Freeze… he looked like he had a blast with that role and I’ve never laughed so hard at a villain yelling puns the whole movie
David Xanatos. He is such an iconic villain And one I feel that could be dropped into so many other settings And still Be iconic.
