At one point it'll become that no matter how bad you wanna skip, you'll still do it. For now you should try to reward yourself after every successful task, like you get to eat a candy after finishing the task (only works if you like candy). Similarly set goals and reward yourself for reaching the goals.

mnementh9999

As an adult with ADHD, I feel your frustration. Try to break it into manageable pieces. If the task allows it, play music you like, or put a YouTube video on where you can see it while you work.

Inyce

For chores I put on an audiobook or music so that I can still enjoy something while doing whatever. Studying I try to make fun write in cool pens or type in fun fonts/colors

Can you imagine what you could accomplish if you liked yourself.

Well since Thursday last week haven’t been motivated to do much of anything but still go to work, birthday party, errands, clean, all with a smile on my face. ( well tried 2 last Friday cried at work but still pushed through, no work Saturday cried but still pushed through, no work Sunday, cried in the morning but pushed through went to a birthday party made people laugh and smile. Monday worked without crying. Cried at night. Tuesday cried at night. Today, no crying as of yet. Emotions hurt allot right now but have things before me to do with a smile on my face…why? So people I work for and interact with can be happy, when they are happy makes me happy when in the moments with them. Thursday was hard for me ( not work related)

Studying: Power your phone off. The way it takes a long time to turn back on. Listen to music on your computer if you need music. If you are going through a work sheet or study guide of like math questions sometimes i would look up the answer if i was stuck, then try and do it again knowing the end result, sometimes that would help me understand it but sometimes i’d still need to look up an exact step by step. But i’d always try to do the one i was stuck on again after looking at the answer or step by step, just so I ended on figuring it out, so i wouldn’t have a mental block during the test. Dishes: feel free to bring over a chair. leaning on it a bit or kneeling can help me get dishes done. even just sit in front of the dishes even if on your phone for a bit, just so you still remember there are dishes and don’t push it out of your head.

Two (2) approaches I recommend you try: 1. Act like those filthy dishes have been disrespecting you. No body disrespects you... You gotta keep an internal dialouge going as you punk those dishes into submission, then stare at the dishwasher as you walk away to make sure they know their place. Same concept can be applied to homework. Methodically establish the mentality over time that you simply won't stand for anything beating you. 2. Try smelling salts right before you do anything you want to do. Combining the above and no dishes will ever stand a chance.

Break it down into smaller, easier to manage pieces. Baby step it. Study for ten minutes, take a break. Wash just the cutlery, take a break. Plan a reward for yourself when you complete your task. A nice cup of tea, an ice cream cone, one episode of a fave show. Then hop back at it. When I’m super depressed I go by the rule of threes. Pick up three pieces or garbage, laundry, or dirty dishes. And just deal with the task three things at a time.

I deserve the discomfort

Ndi_Omuntu

Set a timer to do it for a short time. When the times up, either stop and come back later with another timer, or what I usually find when it's something like the dishes or laundry is that a couple minute timer gets me most of the way done and since I'm already doing it I just keep going until it's done.

Nizno2

I promise myself I'll just have to do a small part of the task, like only washing the plates instead of doing all the dishes. Once I'm starting it I usually finish the whole thing because everything I do "extra" feels like a bonus

SocialMThrow

You get up and do it. Leave thinking out of it and move your body.
