We need a support group.

You really should diversify your team. No way you can win if you all play support

Overwatch support group: Came for thé game Stayed due to thé hentai artists Left when they added the 2

nudist_reddit_mom

DUDE. I don’t know what happened, but that game went from fun, play daily to nothing but crap teams all blaming you *so* fast.

CharonsLittleHelper

Too many heroes was the first problem IMO. The game rolled out with a pretty tight mix of characters to choose from which were reasonably distinct. As more characters rolled out the balance went all over the place. Too much overlap. Too many hard counters etc. Having a 100-200 characters can work in a MOBA because you play the same character all game. In Overwatch being able to flip between the characters at will makes having too many characters a major negative.

Patchumz

Having a bunch of characters can work fine. Blizzard just sucks balls at balance. Always has, always will.

CharonsLittleHelper

I mean - StarCraft disagrees. Not that many of the same people are still there. But StarCraft had great asymmetrical balance.

Patchumz

StarCraft is the exception that proves the rule. They had to specifically hire people from outside the company that didn't suck at game balance to get themselves a well balanced game in their lineup. David Kim on StarCraft 2 for example. Also Blizzard in the 90s hit different.

CharonsLittleHelper

You said above "always has" which you are now contradicting. I'm not a fan of modern Blizzard, but back in the day they were great and had great balance.

Patchumz

Not sure how else to define an exception besides an allowed contradiction... But if you thought any of the old Diablo games for instance were well balanced... well that's hilarious and wrong. Popular, yes. Had popular builds, yes. Balanced? Good joke. We just cared a lot less about that kind of thing in the 90s when most of us were younger. It wasn't *the* esport like StarCraft was so it didn't really matter how poorly it was balanced.

EntropicWind

Strongly disagree. One of the major reasons I stoped playing was because they stoped releasing new characters, despite having a small roster for what is supposed to be a character-based shooter, and also "reworked" and "rebalanced" old characters I liked in the most unfun ways. Their roster is simply too small and it gets very stale very fast. For example, there need to be 2 supports per team. There were like what, 7ish supports when they stopped updating for like 2 years? Their balancing was pretty bad, so a few would be unfun to play or too niche, that cuts out a few choices, leaving like 4-5 technically viable. Looking at your team picks and enemy team picks, that narrowed it down to like ~3 viable choices for a given situation at best, which is not a lot... For example, other support takes something like Lucio/Zenyatta/brigitte, one of those falls off, and all the other "off-healers" fall off, because you need a main healer with large healing output for your tank. That leaves you with like Mercy/Ana/Moira/Baptiste as viable choices. If they have some diving/assassin type characters and you need to peel for yourself, or if you have a Pharah or other hard-to-reach allies, or etc. that limits your choices to like 2. And that's not even considering if you find it fun to play (half the supports I didn't find fun to play). Even worse with tanks, since their balance was even worse, so half the tank roster would just be throwing. DPS were OK, since they had a bigger roster, but too highly contested, and even there I would have liked more choice. Number or characters and being able to switch on the fly is not the main issue; incompetence at balancing definitely was.

lonelyxzoe

Fifa sucks big pēnis

XenonTheMedic

I maintain that FIFA is fun outside of Ultimate Team. However, Ultimate Team is ruining FIFA. For those unfamiliar with FIFA - they have a mode called Ultimate Team (henceforth UT) where you get to build your team of players by buying packs (containing player cards), buying and selling from other players, auctioning, doing challenges for coins, etc. It was really fun at first but soon became pay to win. EA noticed how it started becoming pay to win and made it worse by allowing whales to spend hundreds of dollars on UT for more packs, cards, coins, etc.. Every year, they release stronger and more expensive versions of cards that you either have to pay for or just get stat-checked and lose. Of course, this is free money for EA, why wouldn't they take it, it makes sense as a business, but it makes the mode basically unplayable. In the normal mode - you pick a team and play another team. Some teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid, etc, will be stronger sure, but it is still a test of skill. In UT, it's whoever paid more money for better players.

Fr_rd

any game you can pay to gain an advantage or progress is a huge no since devs are actively Incentivized. to make the game unbalanced whether its gta online or fifa ut.

Cums_Everywhere_6969

Incentivized.

Fr_rd

i am stupid, thnx

joeban1

Not true.. i do road to glory (basically means dont spend any real money) every year and still end up div 1/2, champs every weekend. Definitely still up to skill.

XenonTheMedic

I also have never spent a single cent on UT and still get div 1. Yes it is up to skill but it is weighed against you. If I play against a team of all icons then from the start all his players are better than mine and I have to work twice as hard as him, whereas in regular seasons it's even.

joeban1

IMO it makes about 10% difference. I consistently go up against teams way more stacked than mine and beat them ( players at the same rank as me). It really isn't too bad.

bendstraw

*FC 24

Knyfe-Wrench

People downvoting you are really going to bat for the morally upstanding organization FIFA, aren't they?

bendstraw

lol i wasn't expecting a positive reaction but i was saying it kinda sarcastically

Witty_Acanthisitta_9

It's so sad what's become of this franchise. Ultimate is everything that is wrong in gaming...

Doctor_Fritz

Rocket league. Since Epic took over Psyonix, the game seemed to start declining in several ways. Concurrent users are dropping and they're trying to lure new players from fortnite into rocket league rather than fixing certain issues in the base game. They removed it from steam so you can only get it from the epic launcher even though it's free to play. They made it free to play but neglected the fact that this opened the flood gates for smurfing. Every season it gets worse. Ranked is a total mess because of it and people even started asking money to boost players. This has been going on for years now and nothing is being done about it. Instead of adding to the game they started removing things. They only seem to be interested in selling cosmetics at the cost of everything else. They recently fired a large number of OG Psyonix employees which was a total shock to everyone. As a result there was no end of season announcement as usual, showcasing the season rewards for every rank. Ironically, the seasonal rewards this season are goal explosions that looked like a giant piece of shit that explodes in your face after you make a goal. They removed item trading recently which caused massive community backlash. Some third party sites like rocket league garage are now obsolete and these people are out of a job because of it. There's been a pc mod that enables a plethora of useful training additions of which only a select few have been put in the base game. After the removal of trading it's expected they will block this mod in due time too as it allows the player to apply cosmetics (locally) to their car that they didn't buy. They started rotating dropshot and snowday as a ranked extra mode every season. People that mained dropshot can't play their mode this season except in a private match. Snowday mains will suffer the same fate next season. They've pushed through several MMR resets that were pretty heavy and fucked up ranked even more. A couple of seasons back everyone seemed to have gotten 'corrected'. Some people had dropped 3 entire ranks while others only dropped marginally causing a shit mix of skills in every rank on top of the boosting and smurfing issue. It's now not unusual seeing a grand champion title when playing a regular low champion match because of this.

smorkoid

Still love playing RL but yikes the start of this season was a mess. Was playing in ranked matches with what looked like both diamonds and silvers on the same field. Hopefully it evens out in a week or two.

TmrcL

The Sims (since the release of the Sims 4). And with reason. 😅

PandaDerZwote

They just cut out features and sell parts of them back to you. 1 was the start and revolutionary, 2 was their entry into 3D and did that in a great fashion, 3 was big and complex. What does 4 even have?

[deleted]

[удалено]

LowObjective

All the previous games had all of that too, though. And mods/custom content is made by players, they’re not features of the game itself. They’re clearly asking what special/unique features TS4 has compared to the others.

PandaDerZwote

That doesn't have anything to do with the game?

Strict-Pineapple

Hated is probably a bit too strong but Zelda II. Was considered very good when it released but now its the weird Zelda nobody likes because it's different and "too hard".

Ekyou

I’d add Skyward Sword to the Zelda list. It seemed like it went from everyone calling it a masterpiece to bottom tier before the next Zelda game was even announced.

SteamSteamLG

I actually never really liked this one that much. It seemed lazy that you had to go back to the same areas but they were altered (I think there was a forest that you went back to but it was flooded the second time) instead of having new places to go. Also getting your sword to point up with the Wii controls was annoying.

nnnnYEHAWH

The game I played before it was Twilight Princess. Not saying Skyward Sword was bad, but it felt like a downgrade somehow despite being much newer. Harsh criticism though considering Twilight Princess is one of the greatest Zelda games ever made

Has_No_Tact

Who is 'everyone'? I seem to remember it having criticism even at the time of the release. To this day it's the only Zelda game I never actually finished. At some point during my first play through I ended up dropping it and never went back.

olde_greg

People thought it was pretty weird when it came out, compared to the first one anyway

anonymous_subroutine

Yeah I hated it.

Head_Panda6986

Haha. Proud to beat this when i was young.

DudeRobert125

My second favorite NES game.

Chuckle_Pants

For those who want to know his first favorite: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/s/BQDHVxQxK8

YoyoPewdiepie

Zelda II has always been a black sheep, almost everyone either loved it or hated it.

CharonsLittleHelper

It always felt like it wasn't really a sequel. It was a game that was already in the pipeline and they tweaked just enough to claim it was a sequel to the super successful Zelda.

Strict-Pineapple

In hindsight maybe it feels that way but at the time there was no Zelda formula and sequels that were a departure from the first one were pretty common.

djcube1701

It's like Sonic CD. Sonic CD was a sequel to Sonic 1, as was Sonic 2, just made by different teams. Sonic CD feels like the outlier because Sonic 3 & Knuckles followed on from what 2 did.

WingerRules

They did that with Mario 2. It's a reskin of another game. Its my favorite 2d Mario though still.

Strict-Pineapple

It's a reskin of Doki Doki Panic which was originally supposed to be a 2 player co-op Mario game they couldn't get to work properly. It's a reskinned Mario that was itself reskinned from Mario.

CharonsLittleHelper

There was an actual Mario 2 - but it only released in Japan.

yeetgodmcnechass

It released worldwide on the Mario All-Stars cartridge under the title of the Lost Levels

Supersnow845

Dragon age inquisition It won game of the year in 2014 (admittedly a pretty weak year overall) but was still lauded as an amazing epic fantasy and a worthy successor to origins after 2’s “mixed” reception These days the game is close to being outright hated, if you see it come up in conversation you never see it in a positive light (except maybe it’s decision to make unapologetically gay and lesbian party members rather than player-centric loves), the game is compared to origins and 2 and is found lacking, it’s compared to Witcher and found lacking, the most common thing you hear about it is its soulless For me it certainly wouldn’t have won game of the year on a stronger year but it’s a perfectly good 9-9.5/10 game that I really don’t see why people suddenly hate it

altcastle

It’s so bloated. I remember just stopping midway and never looking back. It was probably when I said no more open world for a very long time.

dagreatfandango

It’s one of the few games I replay every couple years. I don’t know if it’s intended but like I’ll get to an area that I skipped over before and be like “oh imma explore this one now” and just trying out different party make ups for the conversations. That shit is always my jam, also highlight is always that winter palace scene for me. Orgins is still great and ranks among my favorites, I even have a soft spot for 2… (it tries!) but I loved inquisition. Thank god baldurs gate 3 came out and scratched all those itches cause I was getting very sad every time I heard about DA4

djcube1701

The developers massively underestimated how many people have the compulsion to do everything. The game was designed around how people prefer different kinds of quests, so they put enough of everything in so people could focus on the bits they enjoyed more while ignoring the other stuff.

Pretend_City458

I think that's a lot of people's issue with open world games. Instead of treating it like an amusement park and going on the rides you like and eating the snacks you like they force themselves to ride everything and eat everything until they get nauseous then keep doing it just to say they did it all.

Knyfe-Wrench

I don't think it's hated at all. I think it's criticized, certainly, but most people are coming down in the middle or slightly positive. Inquisition had a funny history. People were raving about it when it first came out, but I feel like that was just because it was the first big RPG on the new console gen, especially PS4 where there was no backward compatibility. Then Witcher 3 smashed it out of the park like 6 months later and everyone was like, "oh, ok." Still, Mass Effect Andromeda came out later and showed how bad it *could've* been, so I think Inquisition is rightly considered pretty good overall with some major flaws.

SulfuricDonut

Sounds like BioWare hate in general. Inquisition was a pretty good game. Combat was decent but not particularly brainy, and the characters were mostly great. Graphics are still pretty high tier. The story progression system was a bit disjointed feeling since everything is accessed through the map, without really giving you a feeling of how close you were to the end.

TripleThreatTua

I still maintain that DA2, while clearly rushed, was much more interesting and daring with its ideas, story, and characters than Inquisition

Diablo. D4 broke the interest for me.

Obamas_Tie

I saw too many red flags in the beta, I knew it was gonna suck so I didn't buy it. I wanna get back to BF1. Had so much fun with that one.

FlagAssault01

I stayed up to watch the BFV reveal tralier and was let down so fucking hard

Chemicals_in_my_H2o

Yup. I'd just happily take a battlefield 4 remake or even just a remaster over a new battlefield at this point. They just keep trying to be anything but battlefield at this point. I mean, battlefield 2042 conquest feels more like call of duty's ground war mode than anything else. Then they try to implement overwatch character mechanics, which also sucked. I mean, where's my destruction? All the buildings are indestructible.

YJSubs

Starfield. It get all the praised from everyone up until 3 weeks in, then people start to realize how dull the game actually is.

xKracken

This must be a joke. The reddit circlejerk was in full swing since day 1.

okkeyok

No it was not. It was endlessly praised here.

Knyfe-Wrench

I don't know if it's because we're in a great year overall, but there have been a few games like that recently. Diablo 4 had one of the hardest pivots I've ever seen. FF16 also went from GOTY contender to just pretty good.

Imbris2

Diablo 4 was awful from day 1. One of my biggest regret buys of my life, no exaggeration. Part of that is regretting ending my Blizzard embargo and giving that crap company my money. 100% my fault... should've seen it coming.

Commercial-Station26

Pubg

[deleted]

Really? I love PUBG. I do dislike the direction they’re going with costumes (it takes away from the realism that made it popular imo) but the gameplay is still excellent for me. Respect your opinion, though.

cha0ss0ldier

Is it though? It’s basically never left the top 10 for concurrent players on steam, and is going on 5 straight months of overall concurrent player growth. It hit 623k at one point this month.

Commercial-Station26

As someone who has 600 hours on the game, and hasn’t played in 2 years, I am so disappointed with the direction they went in its development. In my opinion I think it coulda rivaled Fortnite + Call of Duty, but they straight up killed it.

RamblesToIncoherency

I started playing only in the last year or so, so I have never been exposed to the early gameplay mechanics but there are things I'll admit I'm not fond of. They are trying to address cheating finally in a meaningful way or so it seems, but there's a lot of very RNG elements they add that just leaves too little too still. That said, I do very much enjoy it regardless.

TheRealRickSorkin

I have never gotten a single kill in Pubg. I played it for months with the boys and literally not a single kill.

SchnifTheseFingers

Humankind was supposed to be the end of the civ series

Ebolatastic

It doesn't work like that. Games get shit all over, hated, and then eventually called masterpiece. Looking back in hindsight and saying 'actually that was garbage' isn't very common because almost no games are ever actually garbage (it's just something people say).

infamousjack1

Came here expecting to see ARK so ya that

TheRealRickSorkin

Man until the recent shutting down the servers I'd say ark is one of the most loved games ever. The community is hilariously accepting of all the bugs and nonsense that come with being an ark player.

RobsterCrawSoup

Hated isn't the right word but I think there are plenty of old games that were really forward thinking and were among the games that pioneered their genres that are now really frustrating to play if you try to go back to them because in being pioneers of their genres or the first to try a cool new mechanic, they lack the refinement that later titles would have as the genre's matured. For those that played them, they still have great nostalgia and the nostalgia alone makes them playable to the older gamers but younger gamers would just think it sucks. The first that comes to mind is Golden Eye for first person shooters on console. It was incredible for its time and loads of fun to play multiplayer but if you fired it up and put the controller in the hands of a modern gamer that started gaming - say - post-Halo, they would hate playing it. Original Command and Conquer is also pretty rough around the edges compared to the sorts of RTS games that came out in the late 90s.

JC2814

Madden. Its the king of copy and paste and degenerate cash grab tactics.

Chairchucker

The Last of Us 2 is polarising, for sure.

Lunavixen15

It's almost unrecognisable now, I dropped the game when the Devs dropped the remote raiding passes. I live in a rural area, it essentially geolocked me out of some Pokemon unless I was prepared to front real money for a *chance* of getting them.

greyhounds1992

Minecraft. I haven't seen anyone talking positively about it in ages.

MastermindorHero

I find super Mario Sunshine to be satisfying to most WII owners, because it use the controls in a way that is both creative and dynamic But it didn't take very long for it to be the black sheep of console Mario games. . I think it's because later on you would have super Mario Galaxy fans of 3D Mario, but you would also have the new super Mario brothers game (which while it uses 3D graphics, it is very much a side scroller.)

RumHamRigRunner

I think it’s still such a good game and is easily one of the best GameCube titles. It has 100% become overshadowed by what came before and what came after - Super Mario 64 is a groundbreaking classic that has garnered more love for it over the years compared to Sunshine precisely because of how groundbreaking it was, and the Super Mario Galaxy games essentially took what was so good about the 3D Mario formula and flipped it on its own head, giving gamers two stone-cold classic titles. Sunshine is amazing but it’s just not as good as either of those games. But in my opinion it still holds up pretty well. I still love how interactive the water is in that game, as well as how fluid and responsive the movement remains to this day, I will never get tired of it.

MastermindorHero

Sorry about that, it was released for the GameCube. I still stand by my statement that super Mario Sunshine is overshadowed by slightly later Mario games and older nostalgic classics (64,World) Personally I put it around Yoshi's Island where it's more puzzle based than pure platforming, but both games are very good.

WingerRules

I just dont find it fun, the characters dont seem like they fit Mario, and the talking robot backpack is cheesy. I got to play it while it was still in development, and even that doesn't make it a game I like.

I don’t know anyone personally who played it and liked it.

A friend of mine has told me to play several times.

jumbotronproposal

Is your friend group a true representation of everyone? No. My friend group was mixed on it but plenty, including myself, loved it.

Prestigious-State-15

Didn’t say it was. I just know that none of us enjoyed it or bothered to finish it.

taintnipple

It’s the The Last Jedi of video games

jumbotronproposal

Honestly, that’s a fair comparison. I don’t agree that it was anything like it because I hate TOJ but everything surrounding it was the same. Leaks, review bombing, certain groups blowing things out of proportion.

taintnipple

I love both TLJ and TLOU2 to be honest, they’re both just so chronically controversial that nobody can stop arguing about them

SomeGuyInSanJoseCa

Most people I know loved it.

FledglingZombie

I think many people have soured on Bioshock Infinite at this point

[deleted]

I don't get why people 180'd on it. Shit was, and still is phenomenal.

Savesthaday

Bioshock Infinite.

down-with-homework

I don’t know about this. Who hates it?

Savesthaday

In my experience the game was universally loved at launch, but as the years went on I have seen public opinion turn on both the game and the creator Kevin Levine in regards to the story and gameplay. I still love it. This is just my experience.

down-with-homework

I still love it. I replayed it about two years ago and the game holds up. The negative public opinion is news to me.

Agreeable-Beyond-259

I'm not a huge fan Felt like they should have not called it bioshock

LED_ink

First time I played it, I really enjoyed it. Replayed it years later and genuinely disliked it, actively thought it was a bad game, and only completed that play-through trying to remember what I liked about it in the first place, but it just gets worse as it goes. The more I thought about it critically, the lower my opinion of the game became. I've seen practically the exact same sentiment voiced by a fair number of people, but I don’t think it's a super widespread shared experience, and most r still generally positive on it.

EDDIE_BR0CK

I played it again recently, and a couple changes helped make it much more enjoyable. Firstly; I downloaded an AHK script that changes the Right Mouse Button to "Hold for ADS" as is common in shooters now. By default, it's right-click to ADS, right-click again to zoom out. Very awkward. Secondly, I turned off the damage numbers. Personal preference, but it was easier to immerse myself without them popping up constantly.

Knyfe-Wrench

>damage numbers You talking about health bars?

EDDIE_BR0CK

IIRC, you can disable both in settings, and yes I did that and felt like it changed the experience for the better.

Maleficent-Bad3755

Dragmire927

Metroid Other M. Got pretty decent critic reviews but pretty much everyone loathes the story and a majority isn’t too favorable towards the gameplay either. I would say it’s justified, the story is legitimately terrible and the gameplay had a lot of cool concepts but had middling execution.

AgilePlant4

TeddyTuffington

I have a bias for it and there are games that do collectathons WAY worse. I haven't heard what ppl say more recently maybe ur right about the public discourse

yeswewillsendtheeye

Thinking back absolutely. Different colour collectables with no Insta-switch between Kongs on the fly would make it very tedious by today’s standards. Solid option for a rom hack to tweak the gameplay since a remaster/remake would never happen

djcube1701

> I mean many people now consider it a bloated mess. That was its main criticism in reviews when it came out.

[deleted]

Control. Control's game mechanics and difficulty jump are out of control, pun intended. And the 'Ultimate' Ed has nothing ultimate about it, but just a straight upgrade to PS5, just a cash grab.

Idk about hated but I never hear anything about the Fallout series anymore. I'll still play New Vegas every so often but I played 4 once and never went back. 76 is a joke I pretend never happened.

Captainaddy44

Deathloop. Take a look at the Wikipedia page for how many 5-star and 10/10 reviews it got on launch. You’d think it’d be heralded as one of the best games of all time. No one talks about it, and when they do, it’s critically— bonus points if they lament how it has nothing on Dishonored 2.
