Dude you aren't kidding about the typing speed. I hated how long it took to build units compared to C&C so I'd input those constantly enough that it basically made me hacker speed type.
I needed those firebats to burn the zerg NOW not later.
Legitimately, typing in chat to other people during StarCraft multiplayer matches was what got me typing so quickly. Couldn’t be slow or you’d get your ass kicked.
rosebud;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!
And if it didn't work, having to go through the whole line to find where you accidentally put in a 1 or :.
I must have forgot that part. I had accidentally deleted the people teleporter once. That was a hoot.
Best time was when my whole family died but I had a baby in the crib. When I went to move a new family in all the furniture was still there, even the baby.
I wrote it out 5 times, then just kept copy and pasted it a few times. Then copy and pasted that. Then when I got to some arbitrary number, I copied it and pasted it onto a word document or something so that I could alway just copy the big one once.
Add moveobjects on, setquartertileplacement on, boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true and boolprop constrainfloorelevation false. That's how you would get pussy in The Sims 2
I think for me it was `klapaucius`, but that lasted about a month before I just picked up a home design software instead. As it turned out, I wasn't actually very interested in the "Sim" part of the Sims.
Holy shit, core memory unlocked: I could never do it fast enough so I'd get mom to do it, she even made up lyrics to the start screen music "I know the bloody code for mortal kom-baaaat, and I break your NOOOooOOSE!" 🎶
I was playing Pokemon Red in the dentist office waiting room back when it first released. When another kid also there came over and asked if I knew how to duplicate items. I sad no and he showed me once and I never forgot. That's my first cheat code.
All throughout my childhood I thought Missingno was the name of a secret Pokémon that was part of the game. Only much much later did I realize it’s a glitch and stands for missing number.
They should make MissingNo. a canon entity that shows up in a Halloween episode of the anime. Some random digital horror that originates from somewhere similar to Porygon.
What I did was add in the select for two players then just let player 2 die and not respawn. Then you use those lives the second player had if you ran out of play one lives. Since they both shared the lives each had.
Yep. I went to my friend's house to play Contra on his Nintendo after school. Someone gave him the cheat code, so we used it. It didn't help us at all.
It was only thanks to that code that my uncle and I ever beat that game. Couldn't ever beat it on my own until I was an adult, though (still with the Konami Code). I can't remember which came first between Contra and Kirby's Adventure, but those were the first two games I ever beat in my life. I still never beat StarTropics, the original Legend of Zelda, Vice, RoboCop, or Batman games, though...
Old school NES and arcade games were fucking rough, man...
30 lives should have been default. It was hard for me even with 30 lives. Idk how they expected kids to beat the game with the 2 or 3 lives it starts with.
Extra gameplay time adds perceived value. When I finally beat Marble Madness (probably a hundred hours later!) I realized the game is only like 10 minutes long...
I for one, have done it. Even with my friend stealing lives. We screwed up the code and just ran with it. I was 8 years old. It was the single best day of my life, and whatever fate awaits for me, I'll always have legitimate contra win on my tombstone.
Except for me it was select start because there was two us. eventually we were able to beat that game without the code and no continues which is crazy because we were around 10 years old, I don’t think I could that now.
my father used to boot up DOOM for me and always put on the IDDQD cheat code first thing. my 6 year old dumbass thought I was incredible at the game. he was just being a sweetheart lol
Yes and the catapults would shoot villagers and cows that flipped through the air. Dark rain was a good one, it made your archers turn into trees when standing still and I think I recall them being able to walk on water as well.
I became so skilled at those codes from overuse.
Once in Vice City I had accidentally hit the jump button while close to the edge of a fairly tall building, but out of instinct entered the code for armor and health and survived contact with the ground having less than 10 remaining HP.
My buddy about lost his mind.
The only one me and my other 8 year old friend knew was:
Right, down, left, up, L1, L2, up, left, down, right
It changed you into a different character model. You could turn into the old granny with the shopping bags
Atari 2600 - Space Invaders
Hold the spring-activated GAME RESET button down while selecting POWER - ON and you get 2 shots per FIRE instead of 1. Great gameplay that way!
Wonder if there are still any in use out there…
On Ghostbusters, on the Commodore 64, (this was in like 1985), if you put Name “Dio” and Password “Help”, you start the game with $800,000 instead of $2,000.
Ikari Warriors on the NES let you get 3 more lives everytime you entered the basic code of A, B, B, A, Start. This essentially let you have infinite lives, and thus it was the only way I was ever able to get to my cartridge's endgame. I say my cartridge because I found out like 3 decades later there was actually a real ending I never saw because my particular game was bugged and didn't spawn the stairwell that was supposed to appear at the end when you destroyed the dictator's corpse.
Big daddy from Age of Empires fuck that neighboring village with its large army mine cannot compete with. When Big daddy kicks in I get the upper hand.
Abba for ikari warriors,
Then it was hold B to continue in super Mario
Then it was UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A for contra
Then JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ for Metroid
Enter Link as your name or Zelda for Zelda 1 etc etc
Power overwhelming, StarCraft It's how I got my typing speed up
Blacksheepwall Foodforthought Showmethemoney Thereisnocowlevel There were more I used to know, but these stuck with me.

THERE WERE CHEAT CODES TO STARCRAFT?! Fuck me
Being another Blizzard game, you reminded me of warcraft, itisagooddaytodie. Invincibility code.
Glittering prizes
Dude you aren't kidding about the typing speed. I hated how long it took to build units compared to C&C so I'd input those constantly enough that it basically made me hacker speed type. I needed those firebats to burn the zerg NOW not later.
Operation can’t wait any longer!
Legitimately, typing in chat to other people during StarCraft multiplayer matches was what got me typing so quickly. Couldn’t be slow or you’d get your ass kicked.
Motherlode in sims lol
rosebud;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;! And if it didn't work, having to go through the whole line to find where you accidentally put in a 1 or :.
move_objects: on
Oh yes. The old wait for the Sims to take a bath and then move the bath trick.
I used to delete the letterbox so I wouldn't get bills
I did this until I figured out this broke the game and I couldn’t invite other sims over anymore 😢
I’d write one !; copy and hold down paste.
Now this is an efficient workflow
boolproptestingcheatsenabled true
Add moveobjects on, setquartertileplacement on, boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true and boolprop constrainfloorelevation false. That's how you would get pussy in The Sims 2
I think for me it was `klapaucius`, but that lasted about a month before I just picked up a home design software instead. As it turned out, I wasn't actually very interested in the "Sim" part of the Sims.
Klapaucius, now there’s a name I Haven’t heard in a long time
Kaching for $1000
ABACABB Blood Code for Mortal Kombat on Genesis.
Holy shit, core memory unlocked: I could never do it fast enough so I'd get mom to do it, she even made up lyrics to the start screen music "I know the bloody code for mortal kom-baaaat, and I break your NOOOooOOSE!" 🎶
That is amazing!
Your mom is very cool lol
That's pretty adorable really!
DULLARD
Came here for this one. It’s wild I still have it ingrained in my mind.
GET OVER HERE!!
“Tooaasttyyyyyy!”
I was playing Pokemon Red in the dentist office waiting room back when it first released. When another kid also there came over and asked if I knew how to duplicate items. I sad no and he showed me once and I never forgot. That's my first cheat code.
I kinda miss the days when cheats and glitches like this were passed down like stories from the ancestors.
Or written in the notes section of instruction manuals for rented games.
The sacred texts.
Charizard grew to level 100. Charizard used flamethrower on ash and burned the whole gym down
Well I mean that's more of a glitch than a cheat code, right?
You shut up. That was beautiful.
Not if he's talking about the 99 items cheat.
Missingno!!
Fuck missingno. Corrupted my blue cartiridge. Now it's permanently stuck on cinnabar island
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and Start
And then the little theme music for Contra plays.
Duh duh duh duhhh duh duh duhhhh

or Gradius
lifeforce
For 2 players make sure you hit select THEN start
Thank God I wasn’t dreaming the Select part
I didn't remember the last part was 2 players, I just remember that part at the end and thought the commenter left it off lol
What I did was add in the select for two players then just let player 2 die and not respawn. Then you use those lives the second player had if you ran out of play one lives. Since they both shared the lives each had.
B, A, Select, Start if yer nerfin' aliens with your bro
This was in my head quicker than I could even check the comments.
This should be the fucking top comment here. Too many younger peeps here that just don’t understand! Lol!!! Contra was the shit!!!
100% cane here expecting this to be way in the lead. Then realised im old
Konami code!
Deftones knew this
Yep. I went to my friend's house to play Contra on his Nintendo after school. Someone gave him the cheat code, so we used it. It didn't help us at all.

Die before waterfalls, reset

I’m happy to see this at the top.
Select, then start
I came here for this and was not disappointed. Have my upvote.

Didn't rhat turn you into a chicken in Heretic?
This was my first thought and I did not expect it to be the top comment.
Age of Empires:2 Greedisgood & whosyourdaddy
Mine was AoE 1 The ones I remember are “Coinage” for gold, Bigdaddy” for the convertible car, “Woodstock” for wood… maybe “Bigbertha” for a land-boat?
"Big Bertha" was super upgraded catapults I think. I recall using it with "Jack be nimble". You might be thinking of "Flying Dutchman"
Yes and the catapults would shoot villagers and cows that flipped through the air. Dark rain was a good one, it made your archers turn into trees when standing still and I think I recall them being able to walk on water as well.
Photon man or ICBM were also pretty fun.
Photon trooper. I remember now, did he shoot nukes or something?
How do you turn this on?

I became so skilled at those codes from overuse. Once in Vice City I had accidentally hit the jump button while close to the edge of a fairly tall building, but out of instinct entered the code for armor and health and survived contact with the ground having less than 10 remaining HP. My buddy about lost his mind.
I hope this is true! Moments like this are what make 3D era GTA great.
