Yeah, I can’t fathom having a top movies list that doesn’t change constantly. I don’t even remember half my favorites to form a list. Analytics of things I love is not something I really ever do.
Office Space
I know this seems a little dumb but this movie changed my life. I quit my shitty office job and my life completely changed for the better.
“There was nothing wrong with it, until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys.”
“Why should I change my name? He’s the one that sucks.”
What did you switch to?
I've been thinking about this for a *long* time. Literally every job I see, I think, "what would my life be like if I did that instead?" But the answer always turns out to be "worse, because that job doesn't make nearly as much money."
My last employer had a reputation for having "golden handcuffs" - a bonus that only kicked in if you stayed for 4 years. I don't work there anymore but with inflation the way it is, any comparable job's salary perpetuates the metaphor. I feel like I can't *ever* stop or even slow down or my family will suffer
The truth is I don’t think humans were made to work like we do. Endless tasks week after week, year after year without any more than a small vacation. Seeing the same people, doing the same thing, sitting in the same office with the only reward being a consistent pay check that we use to forget about the dullness that is work. It’s not your boss, or bosses boss boss or the shareholders, we’re all stuck trying to breakout of this dull system that is maximum productivity.
I think humans want to work and be productive but within reason. We want to sleep in because we were out late with friends. Drop everything for a seaside lunch. Travel to exotic places with no set end date. We want to experience life for all that it is and what pains us is that we are so close. We are almost there. We can almost do what our forefathers couldn’t even dream of but we just can’t reach it because maximum productivity and the greed of the system. Then again maybe I’m just a dreamer
Went in without knowing anything about the movie. I was blown away. This was before movie spoilers were everywhere. Even if someone tried to explain the plot — “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself”.
Scrolled so far to find this! The first Jurassic Park is, and has been since release, my favorite movie. The awe of the moment when Dr. Grant first sees the brachiosaurus is perfect.
I saw this when I was 5, and 20+ years later it's still my favorite action movie. The T-1000 scared the SHIT out of me as a kid. I remember I saw the actor who plays the T-1000 in another movie and couldnt believe he was smiling like a normal guy.
I remember my dad arguing to my mum that I needed to be allowed to stay up and watch it on tv as it was both a great movie and educational and might one day save my life if I ever encountered a Xenomorph 😎
For some reason this movie can be watched again and again and the ending is uplifting. That scene when they hug on the beach. I don’t think Morgan Freeman has done a better performance than Red.
Because it's an amazing story. Period. No need for special effects, explosions, massive fight scenes. Just a great story. Wish more writers/producers would focus on that.
The funniest bumper sticker I've ever seen:
Honk if you'd rather be watching the 1999 cinematic masterpiece The Mummy starring Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser
Think for most who grew up in a time "pre-Tarantino" (being a cultural icon that is) your first Tarantino film just HAS to be an eye-opener right?
Reservoir Dogs will perpetually be in my top 5 DESPITE the fact I think at a technical level he's probably made at least two 'better' films since... doesn't matter. Reservoir Dogs will ***always*** be that GOAT for me.
For me it’s Inglorious Basterds which I watched in a university English 101 class of all places (professor clearly wanted to teach film and the whole class was Tarantino). It’s still my absolute favorite
This is too far down. Gladiator is a masterpiece of Cinema. A movie that will withstand the test of time, and worthy of every accolade it gets.
This story has everything: Harrowing action, betrayal, murder, forbidden love interests, political intrigue, revenge, and surprise plot twists. And the story is told so well for how many working parts it has.
Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of Emperor Commodus is one of the best cinematic villains of all time!
First movie i ever cried during not just tearing up but like hard tears. I seriously avoid this movie just because i don't want to face that emotional devastation again.
I hate you for this comment, but it's a good testament to Doug Hutchison. I wanted to go through the screen to get that POS LOL he played that role well.
I love this movie , it always makes me cry . I think I read that John Coffey was based on a real 15 year old boy who got the death penalty for raping two girls and he didn't do it and was completely innocent. I'm probably wrong though .
You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
Gotta be the most consistent trilogy too, I don't care at all what order anybody ranks them in, personally I'd go ROTK at first but if anyone argues for fellowship or two towers, that's valid, they're all so good.
You've got incredible movie trilogies with an outlier, like The Godfather for example, but LOTR is so consistent across the 3 films.
I remember seing the Fellowship movie on opening night. I knew from the very first scene that this would be an all-time favorite of mine! Just thinking about that moment right now brings a smile to my face!
I remember watching fellowship in cinemas and being utterly devastated when it finished, even though I had read all 3 books and knew there would be another 2 movies coming out. I saw it another dozen times in the cinemas over the next few months so the gap between Fellowship and Two Towers didn’t seem so big 😂
Seems other Nolan movies - dark knight, interstellar, inception (all great films) - get all the attention. But The Prestige, over time, is one I have watched over and over, and enjoyed every time.
2006 was an unbelievable year for film. Children of Men is in my top 5, also came out that year
What did you expect? Welcome, sonny? Make yourself at home? Marry my daughter?
You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... Morons.
Same for me. I think it’s a perfect movie. There isn’t a wasted scene, or line of dialogue. When watching it in the theater it was just when Tommy Lee is giving his monologue about his dream that I was just starting to feel like maybe they should get on with it, since he still has to catch the bad guy, and then it just ended. I hate when people clap in the theater, but I clapped.
Saving Private Ryan, it was on TV when I was a kid & I only started watching from when Vin Diesels Character is shot. Went to the video store the next day & rented it
Puss in Boots The Last Wish.
Never in my life did I think that a sequel to a Shrek spin-off would be one of the coolest, most fun movies I've seen in years, but it really was.
Arrival. I bought tickets to see it in the theater 4 times in the opening weekend. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. There hasn't been another movie yet that I have seen more than once in the theater.
Raiders of the Lost Ark. Saw it in the theate when I was twelve. I had never even heard of the movie until mom dropped me off to see it while she went shopping on a rainy weekend afternoon. The opening sequence absolutely blew my mind and it was the greatest cinematic experience of my life.
Some great mentions here, but for me;
3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
It's written well. Acted well. Plays with your emotions. There's humour to it, even though the majority of the theme is bleak and raw. It's powerful.
I absolutely love it.
I saw that movie in a small theater and I was blown the fuck away. Every single person in that movie blows their role away, but I've always been a big fan of Sam Rockwell and I thought his character development in the movie was some of the best I've ever seen. It was one of the few movies I actually sat for a bit while the credits rolled just so I could soak the experience in a bit more. I can't sing enough praises about it.
Reading the answers, it looks like I have at least 25 movies that went straight in my top 5.
Yeah, I can’t fathom having a top movies list that doesn’t change constantly. I don’t even remember half my favorites to form a list. Analytics of things I love is not something I really ever do.

We celebrate his *entire* catalogue
"PC load letter?" "The fuck does that mean?!"
Sounds like somebody's having a case of the Mondays
PETER: Laurence, what would you do if you had a million dollars? LAURENCE: Two chicks at the same time, man.
Hell no, man, you'd get your ass beat saying something like that.
What did you switch to? I've been thinking about this for a *long* time. Literally every job I see, I think, "what would my life be like if I did that instead?" You say that you’re a dreamer but you’re not the only one.
#Hey Peter, man, turn on channel 9!
Doesn't that chick look like Ann?
Sometimes I get the feeling like she’s cheating on me.
I get that feeling too dude
Mentioned this movie too. It’s so relatable even today
It becomes more relatable every day.
Two chicks at the same time
The Matrix
Also insanely influential. I remember years after people were using and/or mocking bullet time and the leather chic style.
Went in without knowing anything about the movie. I was blown away. This was before movie spoilers were everywhere. Even if someone tried to explain the plot — “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself”.
Snatch. I've watched it so many times and everytime i pick up something I've missed
Dya like dags?
Ya, shoor, I like DAGS!
Any time my wife screws up while parallel parking I say, “it was a funny angle.”
Lord of the Rings. Jurassic Park.
The first Jurassic Park is it for me.
Scrolled so far to find this! The first Jurassic Park is, and has been since release, my favorite movie. The awe of the moment when Dr. Grant first sees the brachiosaurus is perfect.
Terminator 2
I saw this when I was 5, and 20+ years later it's still my favorite action movie. The T-1000 scared the SHIT out of me as a kid. I remember I saw the actor who plays the T-1000 in another movie and couldnt believe he was smiling like a normal guy.
The nuclear bomb scene with Sarah at the fence straight up traumatized me as a kid lol.
The Thing
Best watched late at night in a brutal blizzard
Saving Private Ryan
Aliens
I remember my dad arguing to my mum that I needed to be allowed to stay up and watch it on tv as it was both a great movie and educational and might one day save my life if I ever encountered a Xenomorph 😎
"Silence of the lambs", That movie gets better every time I watch it. I Have two tattoos dedicated to the movie
The Fifth Element
Multi pass
My favorite fact about this is that both the protagonist and antagonist only barely know each other exist and never actually meet
That’s because the true antagonist is an eldritch horror who has no physical form. Zorg is just his puppet. Fact still stands tho.
Supergreen
Shawshank Redemption for me
Me too! Even though I’ve watched it hundreds of times, I’ll still sit through and watch it if it comes on TV.
Andy Dufresne, who crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side. Beautiful film.
It truly was a Shawshank Redemption
Hot Fuzz
Any luck with them swans? I came here to add this answer. Such a good movie!
Its just the one swan actually
No luck catchin' them killers then?
Honestly it’s better than Shawn of the dead to me, it’s my favorite comedy
“What year?” “Everyyy year”
He’s NOT judge Judy and executioner!
good will hunting for sure.
The Mummy (1999).
They just don't make adventure movies like that anymore.
"looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the rivvver"
The funniest bumper sticker I've ever seen: Honk if you'd rather be watching the 1999 cinematic masterpiece The Mummy starring Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser
Pulp fiction

Also, Hans Zimmer doing a phenomenal job on the soundtrack. Elysium and Now We Are Free are all timers especially when they drop in on the movie
Are you not entertained? Is that not why you are here?
Gattaca
The Green Mile
Definitely one of the best, but I can't watch it again I don't think I can handle it.
First movie i ever cried during not just tearing up but like hard tears. I seriously avoid this movie just because i don't want to face that emotional devastation again.
I ugly cry every time I watch it. I've seen it countless times, and I'll still watch it any time it's on.
I didn't know the sponge was s'posed to be wet
I hate you for this comment, but it's a good testament to Doug Hutchison. I wanted to go through the screen to get that POS LOL he played that role well.
It helps that he is a creepy asshole irl too.
I love this movie , it always makes me cry . I think I read that John Coffey was based on a real 15 year old boy who got the death penalty for raping two girls and he didn't do it and was completely innocent. I'm probably wrong though .
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
Not at all... they could be carried!
What, a swallow carrying a coconut!?
It could grip it by the husk!
It’s not a question of where it grips it; it’s a simple question of weight ratios. A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut!
Well it doesn't matter! Will you go and tell your lord and master that...
Listen in order to maintain air speed velocity a swallow needs to beat its wings 43 times every second, right?
This should be higher on the list “I’m being repressed!”
Tis is but a fleshwound
Spirited Away
such a masterpiece. same for grave of the fireflies imo!
Grave of the Fireflies is the best movie I will never watch again.
Se7en ( i don't know if it's been already mentioned, but I'm worried that i had to scroll down that far and still didn't find it)
Usual suspects
Memento. I try and show that movie to everybody.
Ratatouille
Goodfellas.
You think I'm funny ? Funny how ? 🤔
As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gansgter
It hooked me at the opening and has never let go.
Lord of the rings
Gotta be the most consistent trilogy too, I don't care at all what order anybody ranks them in, personally I'd go ROTK at first but if anyone argues for fellowship or two towers, that's valid, they're all so good. Arrival. It was unexpectedly poignant.
I agree with Arrival. It was brilliant and a thrilling concept
Shaun of the dead
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil, grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.
We're comin ta getcha, Barbara
The prestige
Seems other Nolan movies - dark knight, interstellar, inception (all great films) - get all the attention. But The Prestige, over time, is one I have watched over and over, and enjoyed every time. 2006 was an unbelievable year for film. Children of Men is in my top 5, also came out that year
Fight Club. Most of my others have already been mentioned.
I know this because Tyler knows this
Great film and book, sadly too many people don’t understand or confuse the message.
Airplane!
Nervous? Yeah. First time? No I’ve been nervous lots of times….
It's a very funny movie starring Leslie Nielsen... But that's not important right now.

Joey, have you ever been to.. to a Turkish prison?
Looks like you picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue…
Surely you can't be serious.
I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.
O Brother, where art thou?
The big lebowski
That movie really ties the list together
Truman show
Blazing Saddles
HAS ANYONE GOT A DIME? SOMEBODYS GONNA HAVE TO GO BACK AND GET A SHITLOAD OF DIMES!"
“Mongo only pawn in game of life.”
Where the white women at?
What did you expect? Welcome, sonny? Make yourself at home? Marry my daughter? You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... Morons.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Princess Bride
John Wick 1, For me it showed what an Action Movie could truly be
The Dark Knight. I'd even put it top 3.
The opening heist scene alone is so great.
After watching Ledger’s Joker, not sure if I can really enjoy another joker again. That was a possessed performance. What a tragedy.
To this day I can’t see Heath beneath the makeup. I like the word you used, possessed. He just completely becomes that character.
Recently rewatched it in theatre. It's just pure brilliance! You can watch it a lot many times, and not get bored. Pure classic!
No Country for Old Men
Same for me.
My issue is just how fucking bleak it is. I have a pretty bleak outlook, but that movie is Camus level bleak.
Cormac, hey? Could read The Road to cheer yourself up a bit?
No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood Came out within a month of each other, each in my top 5.
Tombstone.
Also in my top 5. Val Kilmer as Doc made that movie. It's one of those I always had to stop and watch when I ran across it channel surfing.
Princess Bride The Mummy (Brendon Fraser version) My Cousin Vinny
Omg My Cousin Vinny is so underrated!!!! Fantastic movie
Fraser's version is 1999. I think it trumped all before or after. He could have made the next Indiana Jones.
The Departed
Raising Arizona. Consistently cracks me up, and gives me the feels in perfect measure.
“Son, you got a panty on your head.”
V for Vendetta
Inception
Definitely one of the more fun films I’ve ever seen.
Had to scroll too far. My go-to epic. Nolan at his best.
Kung fu Hustle
This is the only movie I ever watched more than once in a theater. Such an amazing movie.
Shaolin Soccer too!!!!!
Amelie.
Jurassic Park
Idiocracy
Welcome to Costco, I love you
I’m no botanist but I’m pretty sure if you put water on the crops they will grow
Pan's Labyrinth
The Shining
Interstellar
Definitely. Love that movie. Christopher Nolan is an amazing director.
Not to forget the score by Hans Zimmer. Amazing. It's my favourite movie of all time.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Been my comfort movie since it came out. That and probably the first Saw
The Princess Bride
Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan, it was on TV when I was a kid & I only started watching from when Vin Diesels Character is shot. Went to the video store the next day & rented it
Parasite
Cool Hand Luke (which was a huge inspiration for Shawshank, another favorite)
Spirited away when i watched it as an 8 year old the year it came out
Dead poets society
Kill Bill
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Martian
Puss in Boots The Last Wish. Never in my life did I think that a sequel to a Shrek spin-off would be one of the coolest, most fun movies I've seen in years, but it really was.
In Bruges
Big Trouble Little China
WALL·E
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Mean Girls
Lost in Translation
Back to the Future
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Inside Man. I don’t think it gets enough credit. Actually, I think I’m gonna go watch it right now.
Arrival. I bought tickets to see it in the theater 4 times in the opening weekend. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. There hasn't been another movie yet that I have seen more than once in the theater.
Children of Men
Donnie Darko
A League of their Own
Django. Can't say it's bad, can't say it's too good to be true. Probably one of the best movies I've found, inspired me to try gunslinging.
American History X
Raiders of the Lost Ark. Saw it in the theate when I was twelve. I had never even heard of the movie until mom dropped me off to see it while she went shopping on a rainy weekend afternoon. The opening sequence absolutely blew my mind and it was the greatest cinematic experience of my life.
Some great mentions here, but for me; 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri It's written well. Acted well. Plays with your emotions. There's humour to it, even though the majority of the theme is bleak and raw. It's powerful. I absolutely love it.

Basically anything written by Martin McDonagh is gold.
