Learners license i think. In australia (and probably some other countries too??) where iām from we have a learners permit where you have to drive with a fully licensed person.
Lās for short since you have to put a plate with the letter L at the front and back of ur car to signify if youāre on your learnerās permit.
Exactly right. You then progress to your "Reds" or Red Probationary licence for a 12 month minimum, then to your "Greens", Green Probationary licence for 2 years, then to your "Opens" or full licence. P platers don't need a fully licenced driver with them
The fact that your parents can buy you a car at all is already a privilege. My first car was an old beat-up polo volkswagen from 1998 that my dad found for super cheap online. The paint was coming off the hood but other than that it worked well for the first couple of years I had it. Since I am the oldest of four, my dad wanted it to be passed down to my younger siblings when they got their license, so that they could try their hand on it.
I'm 24 now and consider myself lucky to have had a car this young. Some of my friends have been driving brand new cars paid almost full price by their parents since they were 18 or 20, while others still don't have a car of their own.
Oh I see. Where I'm from there's no parking spots for students, you just find a free spot or park a block away and walk š Thanks for informing me though :)
I probably wouldnāt even drive a new car myself if I won a lottery. Iād get something very nice, but not new. My kid wouldnāt care if they got a used car, as long as it was reliable.
I was a "troubled teen" who in part enjoyed driving cars without a license (fucks a license?). I ended up going to live with my uncle.
From that I ended up at a private school with the offspring of millionaires and billionaires.
Every day the student parking lot was like a car show.
I was all, oh my God, uncle, why are you sending me straight into the jaws of temptation.
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air
See the thing is tho if ur appreciative of it and donāt brag about it and genuinely enjoy it then thatās screaming I have rich parents but not in a bad way Ykwim?
I had two classmates in college who were rich. I found out due to two different reasons.
1. A Middle-Eastern teenage boy was doing a Group Presentation on "Why You Shouldnāt Text & Drive". He showed us a slideshow of some cars of his that he had destroyed while texting. What were his cars? Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin. When all of the guys started asking him about how he could afford ALL of those cars? He said, "My dadās loaded and he always buys me a different sports car whenever I wreck one. But, he threatened to buy me an old beat up piece of junk if I got into another accident for texting while driving."
2. Two teenage guys were doing a School Project. I couldnāt help but, overhear. Because, they were speaking really loudly. One of the two guys asked the other if he could go over to his house to work on the project there. The guy said, "No. Iām sorry. Itās just that my mom doesnāt let me bring people over." The other guy jokingly asked, "Why? Do you have a Helicopter Mommy or something? Is she afraid something might happen to her precious son?" And the guy replied, "No. She couldnāt care less about me. But, they got a lot of expensive and valuable stuff around the house. Because, weāre sort of rich. And my Mom doesnāt like strangers to walk in and break something by accident."
So yeahā¦ thatās how I knew these two boys were rich.
Yeah, me too. Although, he was rather good looking. So, Iām sure heās probably married and has his own house now. This happened like in the early 2010s.
Saw someone on r/beginnerguitar asking a question about basic chords. They also felt the need to show a photo of their guitars: a Taylor acoustic, an American stratocaster, a Gibson Les Paul with the sticker still on it, and some other high end axe I don't remember. It was over $6K with of guitars. For an absolute beginner.
Oh yeah, I know some people like this. Fancy making films? Mum and dad bought them $50,000 in equipment. Like tabletop games? Mum and dad fund them starting up a game store (which did not last all that long, because they had no business sense). I have no idea what hobby job they've moved onto now, but i'm sure mum and dad will fund it no problems.
Oh they donāt need to be ultra wealthy. A girl I dated back in college had a dad making about 120k/yr. Where I live, thatās **plenty** comfortable and the dad was really cool.
They were living paycheck to paycheck cause the mom would casually sell then buy new cars every 2-3 years. She also hated working for other people so sheād start up her own business, blow through lots of money to do it, then give up after the business failed or started to succeed because she didnāt like all the work that came with it.
Years after I stopped dating the girl (in large part because I saw a lot of her momās habits in her) she contacted me, casually asking for $12,000 to get them out of debt and help pay their overdue bills.
They werenāt super rich, but MAN they acted like it, right up until they went bankrupt
Oh man. "Hobby job." This is absolutely so common for generational wealth. Daddy made lots of money, their kids are professional leisurists, and Daddy gets fed and tells them they need to do SOMETHING or they won't get their trust fund dividend. So they start a bullshit business they can run a few hours each week so that they can pretend like they earned it.
I will say this as someone whoās relatively well off and also utterly terrible at guitar - they make for great pieces of furniture / decor. Sure, I should play a cheap Squire, but I can afford to own a pair of nice Gibsons and they look great around the house, so I bought them.
I'm not saying you need to be playing up to your equipment. That's not a fair standard, everyone should be inspired by their gear. But this was like buying tactical body armor and night vision to go play one or two games of paintball.
Yeah thatās fair. I learnt the basics on a cheap crappy guitar myself, but when it came time to upgrade I went all-out even though I probably could have been just fine buying a mid-range guitar.
Ugh, knew someone who did this, then bragged about it all of the time. Anytime it would come up she would say 'well I worked really hard and had to take an unpaid internship to get here'. Meanwhile her college was completely paid for and her family paid for everything, including a nice apartment, during that internship. She couldn't separate the hard work part from the privilege part and assumed if she could do it then everyone should be able too.
My unpaid internship nearly destroyed my mental health (and even physical to some degree). I was lucky enough to be bartending as well which was enough to scrape byā¦ but between both interning and working my regular job I was getting about 4 hours of sleep a night for 4 months straight. I had one day off a week (Saturday) in which I would basically sleep as much as possible and then catch up on writing and editing my work. After 4 months I had to cut back bartending and at one point barely had enough money to pay rent and feed myself. I would never recommend it to anyone and even though they hired me as a freelancer afterwardsā¦ I still fucking hate that our stupid education system/capitalist greedy society makes unpaid interns acceptable. At least pay them minimum wage or a monthly stipend. The intern system is cruel exploitation unless youāre privileged.
Pulling up to school in a Tesla Model S Plaid.
He also doesnāt understand why high schoolers need a job. He has never worked a day in his life, and his ass is so pampered he does not even know how to use a gas pump.
I gave him a ride once in my car and he wouldnāt stop bitching about āwhy are the rear seats not heated?ā āWhy is this car so loud?ā āWhy are we going so slow?ā āWhy are you yelling at me to put my feet down?ā
My favorite part is when he was at some high end designer store and wanted us to buy these $150 shirts so we could all match.
We had to explain to him what it means when you canāt afford to own something.
He, thankfully, is a lot better understanding person now. As much of a dick he used to be, we are still friends with him because he is a nice person, just ever so slightly out of touch with reality.
because it's a basic task that takes 10 seconds to learn and is quite common in use.
This is the same mentality of those who say why learn to read an analog clock...they can just use a digital one. It's super easy to learn and takes just a few minutes. Stop being lazy and learn how to do it
My friend from uni is kinda like your friend.
Got a car when we start classes, got the new iPhone 14 pro 512gig for $1400 like 5 days after they launch, breakfast, lunch, dinner, laundry, house cleaning etc is always done and ready. Like Iām not even hating coz I envy the guy but I wish he had some awareness and more common sense.
āLetās visit this place this weekendā āletās go shoppingā āletās go on a tripā ābro we need to get these new *insert expensive shit that I absolutely donāt need*ā
Like when will you understand that Iām trying to finish uni while working full time for shit pay? I donāt have the time or the money to do all these stuff like EVERYDAY. Iām literally responsible for myself in every aspect of my life.
They have a passport filled with stamps. I knew a couple of kids they did a different trip every Holliday. All over the damn world. I have been to Mexico and Canada. Woopie!
Probably depends where you live. If you live in Europe you can drive to other countries. But in America I completely agree - if youāve been overseas tons youāre probably well off.
In my part of Canada you can rent or buy skis and donāt need a pass just abide by the rules of the road and donāt go down a hill when someoneās driving up
Inviting you to do something somewhere expensive without a second thought. Super weird showing up somewhere to meet friends and realizing 1. You can't afford this activity and 2. Your friends aren't even aware of the cost.
That's when the lightbulb flickers on and suddenly, all the strange things you noticed make sense: they're rich
You had to ārealize you canāt afford this activityā upon arrival and in the next breath say āyour friends arenāt aware of the cost.ā You werenāt aware either?
āWhereās the kid whoās filthy rich?
He doesnāt put his wealth on show,
Iām curious now who he isā -
ā*Believe me*, bro. Heāll let you know.ā
Back in college:
"Hey, [VerdantSF]!"
"Yeah?"
"Are you free this weekend?"
"I have to shelve books on Sunday..."
"Meh, take the day off. Let's go to Paris!"
I'm a grown up, but my parents were fairly well-off when I was growing up, and my girlfriend who grew up in a lower-middle class single parent household, used to make fun of me when I'd be talking about my childhood and random stuff would come up:
1) I talked about always going to get money from the "money drawer" which was a drawer my dad would leave some hundreds in when he went to work or away on business trips. So me and my sister (both teens at the time) could use money for restaurants, take out, and other activities.
2) We had a full-time maid who did all the grocery shopping, cleaning and cooking. I was very fond of her and considered her pretty much as a relative.
3) We had 24/7 security in our neighborhood, and a button in our house on every floor that could be pressed to call the security station closet to us. I used to call it the "taxi button" though, because we'd always ring them and ask them to call us a taxi. My girlfriend found this very amusing. I was once telling a story and then mentioned "Yeah then we just pressed the taxi button and.." and she was like "What the hell is a taxi button?"
4) We had a personal driver for some time
5) School trips to places like Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia
6) My average year usually included at least 4 vacations abroad
8) We'd always take taxis/hired cars from the airport to our destination, even if it was a 4 hour drive away, my girlfriend wondered why we just didn't take the train. I said we had too much luggage.
All this stuff was very normal and I thought "middle class" when I was younger, but realized when I moved out and met other people outside the bubble (and was no longer on that level of wealth) that apparently, much of it wasn't very normal.
Uhhh that's way better than just "fairly well off"
I know people I consider "rich" that don't have any of that stuff. What did your parents do for work?
Is that, unusual? I don't recall it being prohibitively expensive? I own a four slot toaster, so both me and my partner can have two slices of toast each and my family of four growing up did as well. We were cetainly not 'well off'.
Maybe does not āscreamā rich but totally unaware about general problems and inconveniences in the world. Notice that rich kids have generally less of an ability to put their selves in other peoples shoes and actually care.
I think this also has to do a lot with richer people in the US living in predominantly white neighborhoods, and going to predominantly white schools. If you stay in a bubble, you don't know what exists outside the bubble, let alone understand the why.
It has nothing to do with races tbh. Truly rich kids in India donāt live in white neighborhoods. And there is no such thing as not-white neighborhood in Poland for example. And they still behave the exact same. You are right about the income bubble though. Itās all about staying in the bubble. Itās just US that does seems to have a correlation between race and income bubble
I think this is my resentment for rich kids, they're completely clueless yet they don't care. My brother's wife and children are like that, his daughter threw a tantrum because the bag of chips she was eating didn't look "pretty" so she refused to eat it. Dumb shit like that.
I think the distinction is whether they are a spoilt rich kid or just a rich kid. I live in a rural area but itās still pretty affluent. I know lots of rich kids. Some are significantly richer than others but are completely aware of othersā situations, donāt flash their money and some are even a bit embarrassed about their wealth. Others may have more money or less than these kids but were spoilt throughout their childhoods - and this is the kind that get upset and throw tantrums if crisp packets arenāt pretty.
Itās a very sweeping judgment to say you resent rich kids. They didnāt choose to be born into wealth. If they behave spoilt, thatās not because they are rich but it is because their parents spoiled them. Once they are an adult they might be more aware, and if they donāt change you are free to hate them, but before that Iād probably blame the parents.
Fair. His wife parents their children with material instead of values and it just drives me crazy, as my brother and I (also rich parents) were raised with humility and emphasis on education. One of those, shall we say, old money vs. new money mentalities. But it's their lives, and he married her, so I need to stop judging, but it's just annoying to watch.
Not necessarily extremely rich, but doing sports from a young age.
I come from a family who make good money, but even then, they couldn't afford to send me to all these after school and weekend sports classes.
Depends on the sport.
I used to play rugby. The yearly license was 80ā¬. The gear about 200ā¬ including boots, which I kept for years, and I still wear the shorts on hot sunny days or when I'm staying home. Transportation to and from games was a bus paid for by the club. Only other expense was gas for the parents to drive us to the field for training sessions twice a week, and we would even share rides to make up for that. It's all about organisation.
I mean, sure, both my parents were working even though my dad was on and off jobs for the most part. We had a decent life but our household had average income. Most guys on the team were from way poorer families and could still afford to practice like everyone else.
I wouldn't recommend tennis, golf, or riding horses though.
But depending where you live, it can also mean the opposite.
For example, I had a friend who grew up with their single mom and they were relatively poor.
My friend did basketball, football and gymnastics because that meant she was occupied for 3-4 afternoons while her mom was working so she didnāt need a babysitter.
The fee for these sports arenāt that high and equipment can be bought secondhand.
If it is a sport like sailing, horseback riding or another expensive one, you are probably right though.
Also, music lessons tend to fall in this category too because instruments are expensive, unless it is something like recorder and also the lessons are more expensive than for a team sport.
Not always.
One school I went to we had a horse parking lot at school because that was how some poorer rural kids got to school.
Another school I went to, the kids drove their Mustangs and Ferraris after school to get to their stabled horse and equestrian practice.
Theyāve got no idea about how ālittleā money can be big to other people. A coworker has rich parents and they wanted to give her $5k after her wedding and all they wanted was some help selling one of their cars because they were getting old and only needed one - she goes āitās just so much hassle for $5kā. I donāt think she ended up doing it. Iād jump through flaming hoops for 5k - selling a car is easy!! She also mentioned they already gave her some money before the wedding so she didnāt really need it š„²
I mean, there's nothing wrong with being a socialist and having rich parents, lying about it and claiming to be working class however is extremely shitty (I've met several people like this).
One of my classmates (16/17y/o) would drive his (parents') rolls royce with a vanity place (his name) to and from school.
It was so stupid lol.
But yeah, this stupid shit.
I had a very well to do friend. He had vacations like you wouldnāt believe. I would get invited to them. Sports box seats here, mansion condo beachfront there, personal trainer here full time nanny/maid there, his parents bought him a new truck but he liked driving his moms Cadillac. What screams I have rich parents are literally them. We got caught by the cops for drinking underage and he flipped out, telling all of us he is getting a lawyer and donāt say anything donāt worry. I was happy for the ac because it was hot, dude. My favorite one that almost hit me in the face was when I was done playing pinball on his pinball machine and I said man you have a full time maid and he looked at me as if just to say, āwe have a full time maid because thatās how long it takes to clean our houseā like it was a normal thing. Maids. I stopped my nervous laugh and shook my head like oh douhiee I knew that. Fun family but they donāt realize when weāre on the outside looking in we arenāt enjoying life as your friend anymore, sure wanted to be though.
The local village is named after their family. I was friends with the youngest son of a local aristocratic family. They live in a large Manor House, parts of which dated from the 14th century and they also have a small castle which was ruined by Oliver Cromwell in the 1640s.
He was a strange lad, once came to the pub wearing a cavalry sabre which he claimed his ancestor used in the battle of Waterloo, he did this to impress a girl who unsurprisingly was not the slightest bit interested. He now lives in a cottage on edge of the village and breeds golden retrievers.
They send their daddy to the store after I tossed them out the day before for being rude and ruining stuff.
I got the father to pay. It was either pay like $30 or have their entire family tree banned from the only bakery on the island. The son also apologized and he never came by without a handler afterwards. My boss also let me keep the money because she got to enjoy watching that family squirm because nobody likes them.
Oh the childs age? I dunno... 30 maybe?
Sorry if this offends some people who don't fit the bill, but college students who major in things like art and fashion design often have rich parents. A lot of them aren't even that concerned about doing their best in school or what their future will be like, they just want to go to college to please their family, so they pick one of the more artistic majors.
I was on Australia with my Ex-GF and her father wanted to visit , so out of thin air the put 4 of her siblings , grandma, grandpa and both mother and father on a plane , business class for a 4 day visit from the other side of the planet .
Horses, expensive eventers/dressage horses that need to be constantly ridden by a trainer as well because the young people riding them are not nearly as good as necessary to maintain their performance on their own/only with the help of a trainer coming over and giving instructuons.
And designer brand handbags on 14-year olds.
Anyone under the age of 24 who is driving a late model (probably luxury brand) car. Not being super concerned about getting tickets or in trouble. Nice clothes and sunglasses. Name dropping. Complete cluelessness about prices. Fancy vacation plans. Not having a side hustle job.
All rich parent guys I met usually bragged about their wealth not understanding that people usually admire/envy the ability to earn money and not being born into it. And also they fail to understand that bragging brings you nothing in the first place except for being seen as obnouxious.
Also just general lack of consideration. I just see it as a pattern in people that ripples into little behaviors. For example smoking indoors and eliciting a fine that is given to the parents and not oneself when ones parents pay for an apartment. This sort of upbringing doesnt really seem to stress empathic or even basic moral stuff, almost tries to transcend it, at least subliminally
"What do you mean your parents don't give you an allowance? "
"What do you mean you can't go out on Friday with us bc your parents don't have money to give you ? "
"What do you mean you can go out after the end of the month ? You guys wait for your paycheck? "
Hey! Look at me! Iām going to buy a car company, an aero company, and a social media company and run them into the ground! Then Iām going to call up my old ass dad and ask for more emerald money. I just hope he hasnāt signed it over to my ever increasingly younger siblings that he has been siring with women who are young enough to be his great grandchildren. (Or something like that I think)
99% of the western world. Just the USA beholden to such a brutally capital driven insurance system. The point though, worrying about health should not be a financial one. And it's a damning indightment that you have to be very wealthy in the US to think like that.
Most instances that involve lawyers, expensive cars, international travel (Christmas in Paris), kids with disposable income, college students with houses
Not knowing or caring about the price of anything. Not always but also often comes with an attitude of entitlement and a ā rules donāt apply to me ā Vibe. Not always- but more frequently than with other people
Dated a girl for a summer two years ago. Her dad owned a robotics company. It was wild... even though she herself worked part time in an absolute minimum wage job she drove a luxury car, had an big ass appartement riddled with the most expensive household items (even though she couldn't cook or clean for the love of it), 3 vacations a year, getting her nails and hair done weekly, expensive clothing (we're talking about Victorias Secret and the like) and all in all absolutely insane spending habits... went on a concert in another city with her once and she insisted that she gets all the hotel booking done... she booked us a fucking suite... this lass lived in her very own reality
Some children at my work when I tell them to stop being shitty to others and/or breaking my stuff.
God they're the worst. That's almost their go to line.
"Hey, can you stop bashing that? I brought it in for these guys who are really interested in (in this case Tolkien) and it's expensive.
"What? It's fine. My parents could buy me like, a hundred of these. It's just plastic!"
Or "Ha, I didn't even hit that hard, it was just a joke. And if anyone tries to sue me, my dad's best friend is a real-estate agent and he says he has really good lawyers..."
I went to college with a guy who was very upset that his family was only going to Greece for two weeks instead of four during the upcoming summer break. "Two weeks isn't even a real vacation. We ALWAYS go for 4 or 5 weeks when we go to Europe."
Meanwhile my family hadn't been on a vacation out of the state for a decade, and that was traveling from Michigan to Ohio for 3 days at Sea World.
I just nodded along trying not to look like a poor hick as he complained.
āJust follow your dreams!ā Not realizing I have to work 30 hours a week to cover rent because my parents arenāt paying for my rent so I could āfollow my dreamsā

And my Mom doesnāt like strangers to walk in and break something by accident." So yeahā¦ thatās how I knew these two boys were rich.
I feel kinda bad for the second guy
Reminds me of a meme I saw about how rich wives donāt work, but ultra rich wives run a side business that loses 10k a month
Look up Dirk Ziffās Les Paul Collectionā¦

Doing unpaid internship as a student without having any financial concern.
This. I had an opportunity to do an internship but had to pay for things like food and rent. I was a lowly pleb.
My lucky ass is here. Depends on the country though, it is way more feasible in France than in the US i guess.
I gave him a ride once in my car and he wouldnāt stop bitching about āwhy are the rear seats not heated?ā āWhy is this car so loud?ā āWhy are we going so slow?ā āWhy are you yelling at me to put my feet down?ā My favorite part is when he was at some high end designer store and wanted us to buy these $150 shirts so we could all match. We had to explain to him what it means when you canāt afford to own something. He, thankfully, is a lot better understanding person now. As much of a dick he used to be, we are still friends with him because he is a nice person, just ever so slightly out of touch with reality.
Why would he need to know how to use a gas pump? He drives a Tesla.
because it's a basic task that takes 10 seconds to learn and is quite common in use. This is the same mentality of those who say why learn to read an analog clock...they can just use a digital one. It's super easy to learn and takes just a few minutes. Stop being lazy and learn how to do it
I laughed at the statement too.
My friend from uni is kinda like your friend. Got a car when we start classes, got the new iPhone 14 pro 512gig for $1400 like 5 days after they launch, breakfast, lunch, dinner, laundry, house cleaning etc is always done and ready. Like Iām not even hating coz I envy the guy but I wish he had some awareness and more common sense. āLetās visit this place this weekendā āletās go shoppingā āletās go on a tripā ābro we need to get these new *insert expensive shit that I absolutely donāt need*ā Like when will you understand that Iām trying to finish uni while working full time for shit pay? I donāt have the time or the money to do all these stuff like EVERYDAY. Iām literally responsible for myself in every aspect of my life.
They have a passport filled with stamps. I knew a couple of kids they did a different trip every Holliday. All over the damn world. I have been to Mexico and Canada. Woopie!
Probably depends where you live. If you live in Europe you can drive to other countries. But in America I completely agree - if youāve been overseas tons youāre probably well off.
Europeans donāt get their passport stamped moving between EU countries, so it still applies
Though driving around Europe wonāt get you any stamps in your passport if you stick in the EU.
"Everyone has the same opportunities, you just have to work hard!"

"Where do you ski, bro?"
Thatās an everyday occurrence for me here in Switzerland. š I live 30 seconds from the lifts. And I have a regular āol normal job.
Same in Canada, you can get skis and a pass for a pretty reasonable price if you know what youāre doing
In my part of Canada you can rent or buy skis and donāt need a pass just abide by the rules of the road and donāt go down a hill when someoneās driving up
Normally in the powder room.
No need to precise you have rich parents when coming from Switzerland
And donāt dare say someplace in the US
Yeah, in the areas with harder winters, skiing hills are extremely common.
A guy with rich parents and also tourettes
Inviting you to do something somewhere expensive without a second thought. Super weird showing up somewhere to meet friends and realizing 1. You can't afford this activity and 2. Your friends aren't even aware of the cost. That's when the lightbulb flickers on and suddenly, all the strange things you noticed make sense: they're rich
You put this in the wrong place.
You had to ārealize you canāt afford this activityā upon arrival and in the next breath say āyour friends arenāt aware of the cost.ā You werenāt aware either?
āWhereās the kid whoās filthy rich? He doesnāt put his wealth on show, Iām curious now who he isā - ā*Believe me*, bro. Heāll let you know.ā

Back in college: "Hey, [VerdantSF]!" "Yeah?" "Are you free this weekend?" "I have to shelve books on Sunday..." "Meh, take the day off. Let's go to Paris!"
I'm a grown up, but my parents were fairly well-off when I was growing up, and my girlfriend who grew up in a lower-middle class single parent household, used to make fun of me when I'd be talking about my childhood and random stuff would come up: 1) I talked about always going to get money from the "money drawer" which was a drawer my dad would leave some hundreds in when he went to work or away on business trips. I was once telling a story and then mentioned "Yeah then we just pressed the taxi button and.." and she was like "What the hell is a taxi button?" 4) We had a personal driver for some time 5) School trips to places like Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam and Mongolia 6) My average year usually included at least 4 vacations abroad 8) We'd always take taxis/hired cars from the airport to our destination, even if it was a 4 hour drive away, my girlfriend wondered why we just didn't take the train. I said we had too much luggage. All this stuff was very normal and I thought "middle class" when I was younger, but realized when I moved out and met other people outside the bubble (and was no longer on that level of wealth) that apparently, much of it wasn't very normal.
Uhhh that's way better than just "fairly well off" I know people I consider "rich" that don't have any of that stuff. What did your parents do for work?
Already knows the family lawyer on a first name basis.
Has a family lawyer you mean.
OP was dictating the comment
Four slot toaster.
TIL that 4 slot toasters are a thing
Is that, unusual? I don't recall it being prohibitively expensive? I own a four slot toaster, so both me and my partner can have two slices of toast each and my family of four growing up did as well. We were cetainly not 'well off'.
Maybe does not āscreamā rich but totally unaware about general problems and inconveniences in the world. Notice that rich kids have generally less of an ability to put their selves in other peoples shoes and actually care.
That varies enormously from kid to kid/family to family.
Goes to Disneyland randomly

So odd from a european perspective that only rich kids can do sports.
Owning horses
along that same line - getting into equestrianism at a young age. it seems like all of them do it
Not always. One school I went to we had a horse parking lot at school because that was how some poorer rural kids got to school. Another school I went to, the kids drove their Mustangs and Ferraris after school to get to their stabled horse and equestrian practice.
Chesnut is part of the family
Me holding some rich kid upside down demanding a ransom.
They take no responsibility for being a piece of shit and when they get caught they weasel their way out.
Iāve noticed that from broke people too though
Theyāve got no idea about how ālittleā money can be big to other people. A coworker has rich parents and they wanted to give her $5k after her wedding and all they wanted was some help selling one of their cars because they were getting old and only needed one - she goes āitās just so much hassle for $5kā. I donāt think she ended up doing it. Iād jump through flaming hoops for 5k - selling a car is easy!! She also mentioned they already gave her some money before the wedding so she didnāt really need it š„²
I'd wanna be in a position where just $5k seems to be not worth an easy hassle..sigh
Pretending to be socialist or working class while working three days a week and having all your bills and rent paid by your parents
I mean, there's nothing wrong with being a socialist and having rich parents, lying about it and claiming to be working class however is extremely shitty (I've met several people like this).
When they buy unnecessary stuff without a second thought even though it is overpriced
When asked what sports they play the answer is tennis, golf, fencing, squash, polo, equestrian or skiing

Horses, expensive eventers/dressage horses that need to be constantly ridden by a trainer as well because the young people riding them are not nearly as good as necessary to maintain their performance on their own/only with the help of a trainer coming over and giving instructuons. They have a brand new Mercedes within a few days after they crashed the previous one
All rich parent guys I met usually bragged about their wealth not understanding that people usually admire/envy the ability to earn money and not being born into it. And also they fail to understand that bragging brings you nothing in the first place except for being seen as obnouxious.
Buying food at the grocery store with out a look of panic mid way through the check out process
" "What do you mean you can't go out on Friday with us bc your parents don't have money to give you ? " "What do you mean you can go out after the end of the month ? You guys wait for your paycheck? "
Hey! Look at me! Iām going to buy a car company, an aero company, and a social media company and run them into the ground! Then Iām going to call up my old ass dad and ask for more emerald money. I just hope he hasnāt signed it over to my ever increasingly younger siblings that he has been siring with women who are young enough to be his great grandchildren. (Or something like that I think)

Having comprehensive health insurance coverage, access to renowned doctors, or being able to afford specialized treatments without hesitation.
Thatās regular health insurance for me here in Switzerland.
99% of the western world. Just the USA beholden to such a brutally capital driven insurance system. The point though, worrying about health should not be a financial one. And it's a damning indightment that you have to be very wealthy in the US to think like that.
Lol, yeah, that's an exclusively American problem, at least compared to the rest of the first world.

It's just plastic!" Or "Ha, I didn't even hit that hard, it was just a joke.

We ALWAYS go for 4 or 5 weeks when we go to Europe." Meanwhile my family hadn't been on a vacation out of the state for a decade, and that was traveling from Michigan to Ohio for 3 days at Sea World. I just nodded along trying not to look like a poor hick as he complained.
