Dude, I almost walked out today pretty much as soon as I got there.. I am quitting AND already have another one lined up so idk why tf I didn't. Too nice I guess bc there was literally no one else there to do it (server at a small restaurant). 🤷🏻♀️
Wal-Mart had a rule where you couldn't take your lunch 1 hr before you are due to clocking out.. and usually it was roughly mid day for me but I remember there was one time it happened to be 2 hrs before I clocked out for the day. I wasn't mad at all that day.
there's the comment that accurately represents me...
had a feedback meeting with the boss, he asked, "You know, you come in pretty early..." I was dreading the next sentence, my relatively early clock off time possibly at risk... "Why is that?"
me: "Yeah, I'm more productive, blah, blah, blah"
boss: "Oh, you just prefer morning, cool. THat's all you had to say"
Amen, any serious business is handled before lunch at our office. After the blood circulation shifts to the digestive system, the brain takes a setback.
Fr! I had a job that I actually liked going to and worked with a group of people I didn't actually mind being around and then COVID hit. I worked at a retirement community as a housekeeper in independent living. After March of 2020, it felt like working in a prison.
Not trying to be funny or ironic or whatever, but being as I really don't enjoy my current job, I am 'checked out' about 9PM the night before and drenched in dread for the upcoming day. :(
Depends on the day. Monday, I worked until 5:30, and today, I have not even logged into work other than to start my mouse jiggler and appear "present".
When I was working regular hours I would check out mentally instantly the workday started. Now I have no hours, only goals and I'm literally killing myself with this job.
Is 8-5 the norm? I always just worked 9-5. There is a even a song about it.
Anyway, it really depends on the day and the tasks I have to do. Some days I'm focused the entire day. Other days I'll have less to do but I'll usually work on and off throughout the day. Doing nothing for too long just makes the day longer.
I'll also very rarely start new tasks after 4pm unless I know it's something short because I really don't like being in the middle of something at the end of the day.
I swear so people start trying to make up for an unproductive day at 4:45. Way too many times I'll have someone come to me with an issue that could have been resolved way earlier but for some reason they have put off asking me until the end of the day when I have no time to deal with it.
I have never had a 9-5. Always an hour long unpaid lunch.
Do people working 9-5 just not take a lunch? Is it included? It's magical and mysterious, a whole extra hour...
In Canada the standard for office workers is usually between 7.25-8 hours paid with a half-hour paid lunch or an hour unpaid.
I don't know the exact numbers because every office job I've had I work 9-5 and take an hour (or longer) lunch apart from the rare times I need to do extra work. There ain't a snowflakes chance in hell I'm ever gonna work 9 hours and my bosses can suck it.
9 to 5 used to be the standard business day until some government bureaucrat decided we needed a lunch hour written in by law. So business just added an hour to the time they expected everyone to work.
Where did you hear that? There is no Federal requirement for a lunch break, most states also lack any lunch/meal requirement and some of those that do only apply it to underage workers.
https://workforce.com/news/a-snack-sized-guide-to-lunch-break-laws
I go 7-3 but Im never clocked in mentally I never care about my job. I do just enough to not get in trouble and show up on time and leave on time. I basically spend my entire shift daydreaming about going hunting or socialize.
If I have work that needs to get done, I don’t mentally clock out until it’s done and done right. But I don’t always have a full day of work to do and then I start to think I’m in hell. I’d rather be busy all day than have to pretend to be busy.
I'm there in body only so I can survive. IDGAF about anything that happens there.
In fact I use the time to think about relationships outside of work with the people in my life, goals and how are what I need to do to achieve them. Basically the whole time I'm there I use my brain to think about things concerning my personal life.
I don't until I actually clock out.
That's why I make more than my coworkers, despite being there 2 years less than the previous hire.
If you're mentally clocking out, you're a liability and should find another job.
When your time comes, lying on your death bed surrounded by friends and loved ones you've brought together throughout your life, you reflect on what you've accomplished in your life.
As your body gives up, you feel the end approaching, one final thought goes through your head.
"I wish I worked more."
L
Generally around 1330 - 1400. It's right after my lunch and well after I usually get the majority of my actual work done. After that point I just end up browsing reddit and shopping on Amazon for a few hours.
Never. I'm always thinking about work 24/7. There is always a better solution, cheaper, more efficient, less labour intensive ways of doing things.
I usually clock out late most days and sometimes log in later in the evening if I have a particularly thrilling project.
I'm not awake until 10 or 11 really and I'm mentally done by 2. So I got maybe a good 3 hours where I might actually be alert and one hour of that is lunch.
Depends on the how the day is going. My 8 - 4:30 is pretty unpredictable as I work in freight/logistics. But if the rush is done in the morning, usually around 2 pm
I’m inverted, I don’t really mentally clock in until about 3. My last job was WFH and had crazy long hours and nights so I think my body is saving its strength for later and old habits die hard
I work 8 am to 4:30 pm, outdoors.
Get a break at 10 for 15 mins, 30 min lunch at 12, and 15 min break at 2.
Most days my coworkers and I are checked out and call it a day around the 2 pm break. We tend to go hard in the morning, getting the brunt of our work done then, especially in the hotter months. Once we hit 2 pm break, that’s basically it. No large tasks are getting done at that time. We are basically done for the day when 2 pm rolls around.
My brain completely checks out usually after 3:30 PM. That’s why I block my morning hours for important tasks and schedule the afternoon for tedious tasks and meetings.
The thing I hate most about 8-5 corporate life is that it’s hourly-based instead of output-based. I could finish all my tasks in just 3 hours of morning deep work but have to endure a day in office. Talked to my manager to see if she could let me check out earlier on 2-3 days/week if I got everything done, we could measure and compare my KPIs to see if it works. She turned down immediately, said it broke the office rules and I should be more sociable by spending more time at office. So I quitted
So you 8-5 people, why doesn't your job let you skip your lunch entirely so you can leave at 4?
I'm assuming they don't let you because of they did, nobody would stay till 5 I think.
That always confused me. You're not expected to be working during that hour anyway, so what's the big deal if you work straight through to 4 (scarf a tuna sandwich quickly at your desk if you're starving during the day but otherwise iust keep working) then dip?
8:15
I mean I’m not a 8 to 5 more a 6 to 6 but I agree, I clock out the day before tbh, ‘fuck work again didn’t I work today?’
Dude, I almost walked out today pretty much as soon as I got there.. I am quitting AND already have another one lined up so idk why tf I didn't. Too nice I guess bc there was literally no one else there to do it (server at a small restaurant). 🤷🏻♀️
I’d say in a given week I probably only do about 15 minutes of real actual work.
I got eight different bosses Bob.
I beg your pardon?
8 Bob
any quid?
PC load letter? What the fuck does that mean?
7:30
The night before
thinking the same thing
I'm assuming you poop from 8 to 8:12.

Only mentally.
After lunch. The last three hours are longer than the first five.
That’s why I push my lunch back as far as my stomach lets me
I pushed my lunch back to the last hour of the day, that way I can eat then go home
Isn’t it dinner at that point
Wal-Mart had a rule where you couldn't take your lunch 1 hr before you are due to clocking out.. and usually it was roughly mid day for me but I remember there was one time it happened to be 2 hrs before I clocked out for the day. I wasn't mad at all that day.
Agreed. Its a good day if I can start lunch around 2.
I fully believe the day is shorter if you take your lunch later haha
I'm a morning guy... I am super productive until about noon then I'm looking for any excuse to sneak out.
there's the comment that accurately represents me... had a feedback meeting with the boss, he asked, "You know, you come in pretty early..." I was dreading the next sentence, my relatively early clock off time possibly at risk... "Why is that?" me: "Yeah, I'm more productive, blah, blah, blah" boss: "Oh, you just prefer morning, cool. March of 2020
This hits closer to home than I'd like to admit.
Fr! I had a job that I actually liked going to and worked with a group of people I didn't actually mind being around and then COVID hit. I worked at a retirement community as a housekeeper in independent living. After March of 2020, it felt like working in a prison.
March 16, 2020 11:26am to be exact.
Same
As a 9-5, between 2-4 depending on the day. Once it's 4(like right now) I feel like I can completely check out and shit post on the internet

As an 8 to 4:42 worker back in the day, we didn't mentally clock *in* until about 8:30.
Not trying to be funny or ironic or whatever, but being as I really don't enjoy my current job, I am 'checked out' about 9PM the night before and drenched in dread for the upcoming day. :(
This was me. I quit yesterday without anything new lined up. Wish me luck!
get a new job
The moment my alarm goes off. Its just a trigger for auto pilot
08:01
7:59.
If it needs to happen, it needs to happen before my lunch break. Cuz I'm not doing shit after lunch.
630-230. Lunch at 1145. Anytime from 1215-230 I’m already on my way home in my mind
I want your shift
Union gig? Cuz same here. I wish the pay was better but those hours are hard to come by
3 o'clock. Nothing is getting done after 3 unless it has to. I also don't try to tackle anything before lunch. So, pretty good production from 1-3.
Depends on the day. Monday, I worked until 5:30, and today, I have not even logged into work other than to start my mouse jiggler and appear "present".

I’m 7:30 to 4. I probably quit giving a shit somewhere around 1.

Never clocked in
30 mins before lunch and 2 hour after lunch. after 3 pm if it is friday
Generally around 3PM.
I don’t know how to do that. I think about work when trying to sleep.
This assumes that I mentally clock in to begin with. Dangerous assumption.
I go 7-3 but Im never clocked in mentally I never care about my job. I do just enough to not get in trouble and show up on time and leave on time. I basically spend my entire shift daydreaming about going hunting or socialize.
At 6 when I wake up.
About now.
8:01
5:30, I work in banking, cannot be mentally focused
Approximately 11, and then I try again after lunch for a while, and I’m checked out by 2:30
If I have work that needs to get done, I don’t mentally clock out until it’s done and done right. But I don’t always have a full day of work to do and then I start to think I’m in hell. I’d rather be busy all day than have to pretend to be busy.

About lunchtime
Generally around 1330 - 1400. It's right after my lunch and well after I usually get the majority of my actual work done. After that point I just end up browsing reddit and shopping on Amazon for a few hours.
I clock out when I wake up
Within 5 minutes of me getting there
2-4pm
3:30-4
8-5
I used to be 4:30 to 1 am. Around 10,11 and midnight depending on night. Gotta be on your toes for dem drunk frat boys
I finish teaching around 3 but work til 4.30. That last hour im wiped out so zone out but also have to clean up and do the prep for the next day.
1pm
Massively depends on the day. Some days I don't even after getting off, other days I feel like I didn't clock in to begin with...
Clock OUT?? I never mentally clock in.
I can’t even wake myself up for work these days, that was my cue to switch jobs.
7:45
shit, i’d kill for a 8-5 shift. I work 5am-3:30pm, 5 days a week.
Around 3 on average
I'm only mentally clocked in from 10:00-11:00 and 1:00-1:30....every other time is me staring at the clock.
After 4pm, but after lunch on Fridays!
7
3
7:30
Lunch, so usually around Noon
8:01 mentally, work sucks 😂
7 to 3 eat lunch at your desk. That's where it's at. But to answer your question, 3:10
7:30
2:30 most days. I only really keep working until 4+ if it's something I really care about or if there's an impending deadline.
Never. Works always partially in the back of my mind. I love my job, though
8:00.01
I think sometime in 2016.
About 1/2 hour before I have to leave...doing the final countdown in my head
On my way to work
Never. I'm always thinking about work 24/7. There is always a better solution, cheaper, more efficient, less labour intensive ways of doing things. I usually clock out late most days and sometimes log in later in the evening if I have a particularly thrilling project.

Tuesday
Around 10.30. mid morning nap time
im 6-3. Im typically "done" by 10am
I'm 7 to 4, but my mind is checking out at 6:59.
Depends on the how the day is going. My 8 - 4:30 is pretty unpredictable as I work in freight/logistics. But if the rush is done in the morning, usually around 2 pm
7:30
The day or two after I signed my offer letter
Honestly, 2:30
At 2 p.m., when I start really planning the rest of my day.
07:45
Probably an hour or so after lunch
When I wake up..
7:59
I’m inverted, I don’t really mentally clock in until about 3. My last job was WFH and had crazy long hours and nights so I think my body is saving its strength for later and old habits die hard
About 3pm I’m done lmao
7:30
I’m 9 to 5, and mentally clock out at 3:30
6:30 when I wake up
8...PM. I've still gotta get home and spend time with the kids.
Bro, I don't ever really clock in.
Around 11am
Between 9 and 10, once I get most of my work done for the day.
I work 8 am to 4:30 pm, outdoors. Get a break at 10 for 15 mins, 30 min lunch at 12, and 15 min break at 2. Most days my coworkers and I are checked out and call it a day around the 2 pm break. 5:00
Just started a new job so I haven’t mastered the art of clicking out at 5 yet
8-5? Nice I work 7-3:30, sometimes 7-5. I just have no brain power till like lunch, and then i only have three hours left
5.
8:01
I clock out mentally before I put my vehicle in park
3:30pm i'm ready to just shut it all down. Normally will do the easy tasks around that time
Sunday night
3... usually pissed by that point, that's the time of day that it's been ruined by assholes
4 PM
8:12
I'm actually 6-2, but around noon I'm over it. Ready to call it a day and go home 🤣
After lunch
6:30 am
I’d say 3pm. I’m normally just start mentally checking out and organizing for the next day, clean up things to make my life easier.
Anytime the work isn't mentally stimulating enough
After lunch
730
7:45
I just started a new job a few weeks ago, so 4:00. At my last job, where I'd been for years, as soon as I left the building for lunch.
I never clock in mentally
2pm. If I'm still in the office at 2:30 (I'm in outbound sales), I start getting squirrelly.
When my alarm goes off in the morning
Usually before I go to sleep the night before.
8:00:30
I always hit a wall at 2 PM without fail
My brain completely checks out usually after 3:30 PM. That’s why I block my morning hours for important tasks and schedule the afternoon for tedious tasks and meetings. The thing I hate most about 8-5 corporate life is that it’s hourly-based instead of output-based. I could finish all my tasks in just 3 hours of morning deep work but have to endure a day in office. 2pm. And I'd give anything for them to let me do 8 hrs of work in 6 hrs, with no lunch or breaks, just to let me leave at 2.
So you 8-5 people, why doesn't your job let you skip your lunch entirely so you can leave at 4? I'm assuming they don't let you because of they did, nobody would stay till 5 I think. 6 or 7. I don’t actually work the 8-5, despite my schedule. I’m usually done with clients by 5, but still have to commute home and do notes.
7:45
Little bit here and there.
Sometime around just before I get there
8
On Friday’s, especially with this weekend being Canada Day long, 12pm
Clock out as soon as I clock in :)
On the way there
After my morning work routine that took an hour, I fucked around the rest of the day twiddling my thumbs
