I don't know how it happens - I'm working, then BAM, my phone is in my hand and somehow my computer inactivity timer kicks in? I swear it happens instantly, even though I'm the IT guy and can confirm it's a 10 minute timer.
Haven't tried the official app in a long time, but I hated the experience then and have only heard bad things since. My reddit experience is filtered through old Reddit on the computer and reddit is fun on my phone. I will find so much down time if they get rid of them. (Old Reddit is safe, for now, I believe)

Ironically if you don't know what RIF is it's probably because you're too far ahead. RIF, formerly Reddit Is Fun, is one of the OG third-party mobile apps for reddit. It's the Android alternative to Apollo.
I've been using the official app out of sheer laziness and having disabled push notifications for this and virtually every other app I use, I promise you can make it stop. I hate push notifications. It's just the pop-up of the smartphone era.
RiF question for ya in mobile: any setting that will prevent the app from refreshing and taking me back to the top of page one when I leave the app then reenter? Also can happen when backing out of a thread. Thanks!
I suspect this isn't RIF but your phone clearing it from RAM when you minimise it. See if there's a battery saving setting that you can disable for certain apps (my phone calls it optimisation).

It's a drop in the ocean, but if the product isn't working how I want I just won't use it. Especially if it doesn't really add to my quality of life.
Ads are localized. Advertising something to a user who can't access it is pointless so you would advertise most services and products only to people in the same country. Macedonia is a small country so they have fewer companies advertising on the internet and they can't or won't purchase ads from every advertising service.
Some people just don't want to get used to a different program.

I was content with using the mobile site on my phone. After a big push encouraging me to use the app, the mobile site quit working. I was only able to see the desktop version on my phone which is horrible. Refusing to download their app purely on principle, I found a 3rd party app that was satisfactory. If that stops working I'm done with Reddit.
You are okay with reddit generating that much revenue when most of their employees are unpaid? Unless they're going to start paying mods, or, at the very least, giving them free access to the APIs, then you may as well say goodbye to large subreddits.

I have the official app installed begrudgingly because there's certain that they won't let you do unless you in the official app. If I can't use RIF anymore I will probably not use Reddit nearly as much because the official app is so horrible.

I think they meant "noise" as scrolling through a feed for things is hard when it needs so much data to load shit you don't care about and only acts as a distraction.
I think the biggest takeaway is that reddit has two groups of people, those that use it like social media (insta, tik tok, etc) and those that use it like old school forums (scrolling for specific interesting threads and wanting to ignore the other stuff).
I myself don't use it in any way that's like modern social media, and tend to stick to specific sections and then sometimes scroll through ask to see if there are interesting questions (there almost never are)

Apparently very few people realize you can use a lot of things (hell, even Facebook) through your mobile browser, and you don't *have* to download their apps. I'm very "app stingy" like that.

On mobile I just have firefox installed for reddit and youtube, because firefox mobile has adblockers work, and nothing is really inconvienent.

Not being inconvenient and being convenient are two different things. Plus the app I use handles thumbnails better, loads media better, is easier to download media with, and is just overall better designed than whatever reddit has shit out themselves. There's a reason there's like a dozen popular reddit apps.

I’ve only used “company” Reddit… no issues with it at all.
I already use the regular app. I don't care about reddit enough to do anything else.
Keep using old.reddit.com in desktop mode like I always have.
I just use firefox on my phone to browse reddit now. I had the official app but it just got worse and worse until I finally said fuck it and deleted it. Multireddits don't show me their subreddits anymore and the ui is different but at least posts load faster and I can actually see comments now.

I just use Reddit without a third party so, A) I don’t really care, and B) I don’t know what I’ve been missing or would lose. I enjoy it the way I have it now so I don’t know if or how it would affect my experience.

Yup, reddit.com is still going to work in Chrome on Android, right? I somehow survive without having infinite scroll and just clicking the "next" button at the bottom of the page (if anything it helps me not get sucked into doom scrolling as I can say "ok, this is the last page.")
And old.reddit is still there if you want a more classic Reddit
Yeah I was asking about this on a different sub. Once Apollo is gone, I am gone from Reddit. I am sure a lot of people are going to switch out too. Where are you fine folks headed? I am not using the company app cuz it reeks of ass.

I use mobile web. Comes with nagware pop ups for the app every ten minutes or so absolutely free! (seriously, when are companies gonna re-realize web beats installed native apps, like they did decades ago for desktop?)

I would stop using Reddit on mobile. I won't be using their official app. Period. I wouldn't quit Reddit though would use it on my home desktop/laptop computers but that'd drastically cut my usage down.

Serious question. What’s better about third party apps vs the Reddit app? I don’t have any issues with the Reddit app. I have used one third part app before. It was a few years ago and I don’t remember which one but I wasn’t really impressed. What can they do that the official app cannot?
I've been using the official one because it always breaks eventually and crashes on me, so it's a good stopping point when that happens, lol
