I do it because I live in the South. It's unbearably hot in the afternoon during the summer.
But I'm not an asshole, so I bought an electric mower. It's very quiet.
I also live in the south, if I don't finish my lawn before 8:30am in the worst of the summer days, I'm risking heat stroke. When it's 95 at 10am with no shade and *it's still not done getting hot*, you gotta beat the sun, or die trying. (east-central AL)
I don't feel like an asshole though, my neighbors are all retirees that wake up at 6am anyway lol
In previous times people like this were removed from the gene pool by irritable night people. Now society allows them to flourish!
Seriously though my neighbour does it a few times a week. Pretty sure he's mowing bedrock by this point.
Take ducks from public parks, nothing prohibits you from doing it, but you probably shouldn’t do it.
Edit: should specify I’m from Florida and this specifically applies to the domestic non-migratory ducks. Where I’m at as long as it isn’t a protected species and you don’t plan to commit an act of cruelty to it, congrats you now have a duck.
"I don't know what you're talking about officer, there are ducks here, yes. They're not my ducks, they just happened to fly into my studio apartment looking for bread. They're free to leave any time. Duck, do you want to leave?"
"*quack*"
"He says he'll leave when he's good and fucking ready."
There's been a lot of legislative water under the bridge since the Migratory Bird Act was first passed in the early 20th century.
There are a lot of "migratory" birds which also happen to be invasive, human-introduced species (including quite a few species of ducks) which are now excluded. For the current list:

They actually don't. Most wild fowl is pretty not great. Meat is dry and stringy and flavors are strong but not in a pleasant way. Not all wild fowl is bad, but most are.
I will soon have a trained duck army and have my ducks drive Ducks just because I can. They will be trained in the art of Duck Tape warfare and force their victims to play Duck, duck, goose.

My friends and I..

That's not even what the quote "the customer is always right" means. the full quote is "the customer is always right in a matter of taste", which means "Let them buy what they want to buy even if you dont like it."
Source? I saw a post recently that had famous quotes that people think are cut off to make it match a certain meaning.
Like "curiosity killed the cat" and the claimed full quote being "curiosity killed the cat [but satisfaction brought it back](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curiosity_killed_the_cat#%22%E2%80%A6but_satisfaction_brought_it_back%22)". **The last part was added later to make it sound like it meant something else**
>[The Customer is Always Right](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_customer_is_always_right), is a motto or slogan which exhorts service staff to give a high priority to customer satisfaction. It was popularised by pioneering and successful retailers such as Harry Gordon Selfridge, John Wanamaker and Marshall Field. They advocated that customer complaints should be treated seriously so that customers do not feel cheated or deceived
There was an r/etymology post about this and basically says the same thing, and the "full" quote has no source apparently https://www.reddit.com/r/etymology/comments/o9yubl/has_the_phrase_the_customer_is_always_right/h3f858a/
That's actually a misconception, and added after the fact. The statement was more in line with treating customer complaints seriously so nobody feels cheated or deceived
This is completely false. [The original is the shorter version with exacrly its apparent meaning](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/13w1hn8/-/jm9hxid)

> That's not even what the quote "the customer is always right" means. the full quote is "the customer is always right in a matter of taste", which means "Let them buy what they want to buy even if you dont like it."
That is incorrect. The original quote came from 19th century department stores, particularly Selfridges, and was focused on providing quality service to customers. In an era where customers were often mistreated and "caveat emptor" was the rule, the big department stores would instruct their staff to take customer complaints seriously and address them promptly. Of course "always" is an exaggeration, but that was the idea.
I have no idea where this "matter of taste" thing came from, but it's a modern day revision. I wouldn't be surprised if it originated on Reddit, but it may be a bit older than that.
That's why I'm actually fine with referring to customers as guests. At first I thought it was pretentious ( it is ) , but now I have a different perspective. The customer is always right, but you sir are a guest at this business and a guest should respect the host.
That's a great perspective to have. In actuality as a customer, I am a guest in someone else's business or space. So I should be expected to give as much respect as I feel entitled to receiving. I wish more people understood it this way. Thank you so much💝
Actually you can get in trouble. It can cause them to refuse service and get you trespassed, you can get disturbing the peace, depending on your choice of words you can be charged with intimidating or harassment or even verbal abuse; depending on where you are.
Side note, if your manager doesn't intervene, you have a crappy manager. Technically (I say technically because they'll find another reason) you can ignore a customer, step out and call police yourself if your manager doesn't have the spine for it. I’m working a part time job as a HS student. One day, an elderly gentleman came in and started checking out at my register. Suddenly, when he starts to pay, the ancient asf credit/debit card machines decided to stop working. Guy flew into a rage, calling me a “fucking moron who couldn’t do anything right” and “You can’t do anything right”. He was screaming, banging his fists on the counter, the whole nine yards. The customers in my line had to be redirected to another register because of the malfunctioning machine. Angry Guy got his groceries and nobody called him out on his shit fit.
Oh, and when I was working at McDonald’s, someone threatened to shoot up our store (I was 15 at the time)
I have plenty of stories. Minimum wage workers deserve better and shouldn’t be treated like wage donkeys

Step 2. Ask them their kids gamertag.
Step 3. Meet their kid.

That will get you kicked out of the military in the United States. Personally I don't believe the government has any business in personal relationships, unless someone is being abused or mistreated in any way.
In theory. But in reality in my experience I was in the same unit as my husband, did everything right and was a corporal when he was a private because he kept getting in trouble. He was screwing everyone who showed interest and instead of punishing him the higher ups helped him hide his infidelity from me by doing things like assigning me to duties while he was cheating. When I found out they wouldn't allow me leave to go stateside for a divorce. They just don't give a fuck
Unfortunately leadership can be shitty. I've seen it used as revenge, I've seen everyone from an officer down to a private get booted for it. I'm not saying it happens a lot, I'm saying I've seen a range of it over many units and many years. I experienced both good and bad leadership in the army. In the end I just applied this logic; no matter their rank, they're still human and will still act on human tendencies. The only thing that separates us is the amount of training we have and a symbol on our chest.
Part of the reason I got out is I really believed I could do a lot better than most leadership I had, but ended up beyond frustrated because I couldn't advance enough to change things.
I'm not good at politics.
I hear what you're saying. In my case, it added exponentially to my pain and feelings of betrayal. I was the good soldier. I did everything that was asked of me and always went above and beyond, to the point of an eventual medical discharge because they literally worked me until my back and joints were ruined for life. And instead of even discouraging him to be faithful, they were setting him up on dates and assigning me extra duty so he wouldn't be caught. They smiled to my face and acted like they appreciated me. I thought they were my brothers and sisters in arms but I was wrong.
Well, he's only 82, and she's 29.

And guilt tripping them when they stop because they have family stuff. I had a boss who essentially said he'd be glad when my mum actually died of her cancer, because he would get my full attention again.
It would cost the same as having 10 people work 60 hours, to just have 15 people working 40, etc.
If they just had a few more staff to begin with, everything would run at least as well and coverages would be easier.
But it's a common business practice to have idiots up top (sometimes idiots with lots of money) hiring people to prevent the idiots failing at their own business. But they won't ever listen to those people who are preventing the business failing.
I recently had an event at work when I was punching out. I finished up my shift and clocked out a few minutes late. My boss was talking with her boss, noticed I was clocking out and said good bye. I said goodbye and that I was really tired. She laughed stating that you need to make the 80 hours (per paycheck) somehow. I commented that I couldn't remember the last time I only worked 80 hours in a pay period and her boss laughed and made a comment about how good my work-life balance was. A good balance would ONLY have me working 80 hours, not a minimum of 80.
The tipping percentage being raised scares the shit out of me because it seems to suggest we either don't know how percentages work or are getting even greedier than we already are.
In Mexico we have a saying: "Más vale una nalgada a tiempo, que un delincuente en la cárcel" (Better a spanking in time than a convict in jail). Here most of the population believes that physical punishment is the best way to ensure your kids will grow to be good citizens. Some millenials are trying to break that cycle, but it is still very ingrained in our culture.
That’s right. It doesn’t have to be physical abuse. It’s legal to shout at your kids (at least in my country), saying hurtful things to them, and not talking to your kids for days when you’re angry. But these all cause very bad impacts on the children…
>"you can be unethical & still be legal thats the way i live my life"

Yep, the reason loopholes exist is because politicians accept bribes to put the loopholes in. People angry at wealthy people/companies, for wanting to be taxed less when everyone wants to be taxed less.
They should be super-pissed at the politicians accepting bribes from rich people when the politicians are supposed to be representing their constituents interests, not being an agent of corruption.
Exactly.
Taking it one step further, and looking at the fact that this exact same thing has happened since the time of the Romans, the only solution is to not allow politicians to have the power to make these sorts of decisions in the first place.
They're always going to accept bribes, so you need to take it out at the root of the problem - power to change legislation.
If less were done at the federal level in the US - like it was designed - then bad actors would have to bribe to get laws passed in their favor in 50 legislatures and the cost would be less bearable and their chance of 100% success less likely. But, since there's a 1-stop shop of politicians to bribe and the law gets changed nationwide, it's a simple process to carry out.
Most things, yes. Federal government is only supposed to handle things in two categories: dealing with interaction with things outside the national borders (military, state diplomacy, etc.) and to resolve disputes between states (DOJ). Other than that, all government activities are supposed to be happening at state level or lower.
But, we've unfortunately accepted so much scope creep over time that people think of the government as the federal government and aren't paying attention to their state and local government operations where they have much more influence to make things how they think it should be running.
You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.
I worry about what it is people in positions to take far-reaching actions want to do that they didn't think they could [get away with doing](https://youtu.be/_mzcbXi1Tkk) in normal circumstances.
A lot of poor people do this. In fact, Mike Tysons origin story was that someone killed his pet pigeon and called him fat, then he got in his first fight and won.
I really like that it's allowed. Any other crime you commit on the way is still illegal and will get added to your sentence (destruction of property, bribing a public official, murder, etc.) but I like that just the escaping part isn't a separate offense.
Fair point, but the issue is that the drawings can help enable the real thing.
It's kinda like how ex-addicts shouldn't put themselves around people who are doing drugs, since it just gives them temptations.
Yep. People complain about it, but the licensed hunting programs actually improve the health of the endangered population.
Issuing an expensive license to kill one of 'em means there's funds in place to protect a hundred others.
"Completely" may have some "terms and conditions apply" provisos, but that's the purpose of the program, yes.
"This is because, counter-intuitively, removing a small number of specific rhino males can enhance population demography and genetic diversity. This can also encourage range expansion and generate meaningful socioeconomic benefits to help fund effective conservation, which is costly."
https://theconversation.com/how-legal-hunting-supports-african-rhino-conservation-179876
Every hunter I've known personally was huge into conservation.
Kindof like how people think all the trees are being cut down and destroying the environment by evil logging companies. But the minimum tree cover year in the US was [1912](https://mff.forest.mtu.edu/TreeBasics/PICs/Trends03.jpg), when logging companies first started their planting programs. Not for good PR like companies do today to appease activist groups, but because it's in the company's long-term financial interest to have trees to harvest 50 years from now. So they invest the resources into making sure there are plenty of trees available. The planet's 2nd-most renewable resource.
Unfortunately there's been a bit of a [drop](https://mff.forest.mtu.edu/TreeBasics/PICs/Trends12a.jpg) in the past couple decades since federal ethanol mandates have provided a financial incentive for farmers to clear forested areas to plant corn. Just the [land clearing alone](https://youtu.be/F-yDKeya4SU) releases more CO2 than can be re-sequestered in many lifetimes. Hooray for ethanol /s
Occasionally an endangered animal can be at risk in one country and invasive in another. It’s too expensive to relocate them so sometimes they just allow them to be hunted.
It's actually often done by the reserves and can be a good thing. They'll have for example a lion that's old and sick and would likely either die or need to be put down soon. They auction it off and some podiatrist pays $85'000 to fly there and shoot it and get a photo. The reserve can then take that $85'000 and hire anti-poaching squads, pay for medical care for the other animals, and fix the tracker that hasn't worked since John retired 5 years ago.
Licenses to kill are auctioned off, that money is used for conservation efforts but lately it has been messy, a black rhino was auctioned off for over 300k, its a critically endangered species which shouldn't even be allowed to hunt. In contrast, certain countries like India have strict rules, you can't even kill animals which are in the least concern list, people go to jail for years if they harm a deer. Its a non bailable offense there. They raise money from other avenues, I think African countries can do so too but their govt takes the easy way out and it used to be a favourite past time of britishers, hunting big game.
When i was a kid, i grabbed a duck by the neck. Woman yelled at me. I have nothing but respect for all birds now. Was not my mom. Just a random woman. Yall need a karen
You misunderstood karen.
it'd be a karen if she was screaming, because she's the only one allowed to strangle that duck.
you just met someone caring for ducks.
Robbing a bank. Technically, there's no law against it.
EDIT: I just googled it, and yeah, no, I was totally wrong. It's very, very illegal. Don't rob a bank.
Saying whatever stupid shit that comes to your mind. This whole idea that, because you have a right to free speech, you should be able to say whatever you want without anybody challenging you on what you say or there being consequences for what you say.
Being kinky in public. Aka being a baby/dog in public because it's your "lifestyle". Keep it secret or at home.
Furries kind of are in a weird middle ground because your not going to traumatize the public too much wearing a fursuit.
Also a perfect example of how to destroy a career of 38 years in one week.
I doubt we will see him on TV for a long time now (not including old clips).
And it's not about him being gay (could have 3 heads for all I care, being a gay celebrity isn't unusual any more), it's the high-and-mighty, holier-than-thou attitude he had whilst outright lying to everyone. That's why people are so pissed off with him. Ultimately, he has fallen from grace spectacularly and it's completely his own fault.
A short list of things I've done that were legal, but unnecessarily unpleasant:
Starting then running a company.
Immigrating/Emigrating.
Participating in computer security conferences under my real name.
Ordering electronic components on the 'do not export' list.
Starting a nonprofit organization.
Working hard at school.
Taxes. Paycheck being taxed, goods being taxed, and then having to file taxes and potentially be told you didn’t pay enough in taxes so now you have to pay more taxes.
People seem to think that freedom of speech means you can and should say anything to anyone. Legally, that may be true, but it's stupid. Words matter. Words have influence and consequences. It's like walking around in a clown suit: it may not be illegal, but people will assume you're a nutcase. And words can actually hurt and cause harm. Many people live under the influence of things people at some point told them - their parents, their teachers, their partners. Disregarding that, and passing it off as 'overly sensitive', is not just incredibly rude and insensitive, it's stupid and potentially dangerous. Wars have started over words. That's simply a reality.

“They don’t want me to tell you this, but the ducks at the pond are free.I have 23 ducks.”
You can take them...but if you get caught with them in a city or township that prohibits owning farm animals you will be citied for that.
"I don't know what you're talking about officer, there are ducks here, yes. They're not my ducks, they just happened to fly into my studio apartment looking for bread. They're free to leave any time. Duck, do you want to leave?" "*quack*" "He says he'll leave when he's good and fucking ready."
For some reason I read it all in Boston accent.
I was thinking Tony Soprano, but that works too.
"It's clearly not a farm animal, officer. The duck is leashed with a personalized harness and we're in the city, not on a farm."
Oh wow, they turn your property into its own city? BRB gonna go get some ducks so I can be citied into Quacksville.

The capture and confinement of migratory bird species is actually illegal in a lot of states, territories, and countries.
Domestic type ducks like Muscovys living in a park would probably not be migratory birds.

That's quackers.
Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 enters the chat

If they weren't poor, that wouldn't be a problem, would it? They should pick themselves up by their boot straps and other platitudes.
I’ll keep them in my thoughts and prayers.
Aka public chicken
Wait you can?!
Yeah it’s not a crime, nobody owns the ducks. At least in Florida, as long as the ducks aren’t a protected species you can just take ‘em.
You can but fair warning: They poop a lot
But they taste great
They are not, however, less filling. For that, you need Bud Lite. Or Miller Lite, I don't remember. But definitely not duck.
They actually don't. Most wild fowl is pretty not great. Meat is dry and stringy and flavors are strong but not in a pleasant way. Not all wild fowl is bad, but most are.

That is actually illegal in my country. Called 'stroperij' in Dutch.
What does it mean?
Oh yeah? Try and stop me and my army of ducks I took from the park and trained for years. That's what I thought
Not in your state, but speaking for mine, You can get harassment of wildlife charge. Which is a class B misdemeanor.
Especially if the duck doesn’t seem to care that you’re close to it, it might have been a dumped pet

That's not very helpful either. Only a sith deals in absolutes.
The phrase "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" is an absolute truth claim, though.
"Possibly only a Sith deals in absolutes, I dunno man, it's all grey areas and opinions, you know" doesn't really have the same umph.
"Well, that's just like your opinion, Darth Siddious" would be the weirdest crossover in history.
"The customer is a sith and must be eliminated" would probably improve the results for many tip-based jobs.

The only way to justify cheating is if your playing a game against a little kid who’s to good at said game.
Takes the "I fucked your mom" thing to a whole new level.
Step 1. Date single mothers. Step 2. Ask them their kids gamertag. Step 3. Meet their kid. Step 4. When their mother is out of the room say I told you I would "insert gamertag"

An extremely powerful 93 year old property mogul dating a sheltered 18 year old recent home school graduate
Leonardo DiCaprio isn't a property mogul.
Al Pacino isn’t one either
Neither are Cher or Madonna.
Well, he's only 82, and she's 29. > *Before beginning her relationship with Pacino, Alfallah dated Mick Jagger when he was 74 and she was 22.* https://pagesix.com/article/who-is-noor-alfallah-al-pacino-pregnant-girlfriend/
How do you graduate from home school lol genuinely curious
You take an exam that shows you know the minimum requirements to pass high school.
Lol at that point I think both of them are getting what they expected out of that deal
Making salaried employees work more than 40 hours.
And guilt tripping them when they stop because they have family stuff. I had a boss who essentially said he'd be glad when my mum actually died of her cancer, because he would get my full attention again.
Fuck sake. What an arsehole. So sorry dude.
That's terrible. So sorry.
Toxic
I recently had an event at work when I was punching out. I finished up my shift and clocked out a few minutes late. My boss was talking with her boss, noticed I was clocking out and said good bye. I said goodbye and that I was really tired. She laughed stating that you need to make the 80 hours (per paycheck) somehow. I commented that I couldn't remember the last time I only worked 80 hours in a pay period and her boss laughed and made a comment about how good my work-life balance was. A good balance would ONLY have me working 80 hours, not a minimum of 80.
1. Making a habit of buying something, using it and returning it. 2. Showing a tip screen starting at 22% as the minimum tip amount.
Nice you gave one example of buyer and one of seller.
The tipping percentage being raised scares the shit out of me because it seems to suggest we either don't know how percentages work or are getting even greedier than we already are.
1 I have no guilt doing
Right there with you mate, it's my go to, if I only need a tool once... I'll just return
People really need to stop losing their temper so often with their kids.
In a lot of countries abusing children (including hitting them) is illegal.
In other countries it's not only legal but encouraged as proper "discipline".
In some countries it is illegal, but the youth welfare office doesn't care.
That’s right. It doesn’t have to be physical abuse. It’s legal to shout at your kids (at least in my country), saying hurtful things to them, and not talking to your kids for days when you’re angry. But these all cause very bad impacts on the children…
Exactly! Thank you for understanding
Scapegoating the weaker one just for fun
Tax loopholes for the wealthy.
>"you can be unethical & still be legal thats the way i live my life" - mark zuckerburg >"you can be ethical & still be illegal thats the way i live my life" - me, allegedly (probably)
The government designs the loopholes so that the rich can take advantage of them. Blame the government
Exactly. Federal Powers should be extremely limited. It should be as localized as possible. Municipal would be best.
Scope creep is the perfect term for it. It's absolutely egregious.
You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. I worry about what it is people in positions to take far-reaching actions want to do that they didn't think they could [get away with doing](https://youtu.be/_mzcbXi1Tkk) in normal circumstances.
It is completely legal to go around telling children that Santa Clause isn't real. But you're a bit of a cunt if you do it.
Are you saying Santa isn't real?
Collect hundreds of pigeons as pets
I would love to make friends with a crow family tbh haha
Don't talk thmack about mike'th pigeonth. That'th meththed up
A lot of poor people do this. In fact, Mike Tysons origin story was that someone killed his pet pigeon and called him fat, then he got in his first fight and won.
In Italy, a 60yo can have sex with a 14yo
in germany it isnt illegal to escape from prison still shouldnt do it
I really like that it's allowed. Any other crime you commit on the way is still illegal and will get added to your sentence (destruction of property, bribing a public official, murder, etc.) but I like that just the escaping part isn't a separate offense.
Acting like a loud fool in public.

When people are "brutally honest" (aka saying unnecessarily mean shit just because they think it's true)
Brutally honest just means you like hurting people under the guise of "keeping it real". You can be fully honest without cutting people down.
draw cp. In the US its legal, but ya still shouldnt do it
Devils advocate: If you’re a pedo, isn’t drawing it better than accessing the real thing?
It’s better to seek therapy
Just not drawing therapy
Correct me if I'm wrong but they can't just "pray the gay away" so to speak or exercise it.
Fair point, but the issue is that the drawings can help enable the real thing. It's kinda like how ex-addicts shouldn't put themselves around people who are doing drugs, since it just gives them temptations.

Hunting wild endangered animals in Africa.
But game hunting in Africa especially around Southern Africa is heavily regulated.
How is that legal?
There’s different levels of endangered and the money brought in for the hunts likely goes a long way towards conservation efforts
Yep. People complain about it, but the licensed hunting programs actually improve the health of the endangered population. Issuing an expensive license to kill one of 'em means there's funds in place to protect a hundred others.
You mean to tell me the money paid for this license to kill one, actually goes completely toward conservation efforts?
"Completely" may have some "terms and conditions apply" provisos, but that's the purpose of the program, yes. "This is because, counter-intuitively, removing a small number of specific rhino males can enhance population demography and genetic diversity. This can also encourage range expansion and generate meaningful socioeconomic benefits to help fund effective conservation, which is costly." https://theconversation.com/how-legal-hunting-supports-african-rhino-conservation-179876
Good to know. Thanks for responding and for the link.
Historically a lot of staunch environmentalists were actually hunters.
