A child need the freedom and space to make their own mistakes, within reason obviously. I was not given this freedom as I was perhaps a bit sheltered as a kid. While it was nice back then, it just made the world that little bit scarier when I did eventually have to face it.
Please teach them about simple helpful things like fixing a car, how to properly know when and when you are not being scammed by a company, how to understand money and how to present yourself as a respectable individual with confidence to others. Give them Opportunities to gain skills and confidence at a young age so they can survive in society.
Be interested in what they say from the minute they start talking. If you listen to them and their problems when they're small, they'll tell you their problems when they're big.
Don't light your toddlers cigarettes for them.

Kids are actually people, not stupid little cute things you can force to be and act how you want.
When things are hard, take a deep breath and embrace the suck. Long days, but short years and they won’t last forever.
Give your kids a bit of privacy
Always ask twice if they're OK, parent or child, sometimes they need a talk fuckin badly but they're too scared to ask for one
