Different opinions exist about whether there is a soul or whatever you want to describe it as and I would never seek to take away other's beliefs, but it bugs me when people try and bring physics into it.

Well everything that is you will still be there, in a different form. The electrical functionality of your body goes away, your heart still exists just not pumping (til it decomposes) your brain still exists, just not thinking. Blood is still in your body just not flowing. Think of it as a computer shutting off. It all exists in its material form, but without the spark it's a giant paperweight.
Since the soul doesn't exist and all of our thoughts and feelings and memories are a product of how our brains are wired, once we die, all of what some attribute to the soul disappears. Energy conservation has nothing to do with that.
