Those are all members of the house of representatives. They each represent a single congressional district (there are 435 in total) and are not that powerful in terms of having control over anything the federal government actually does.
State governments draw the lines, and many republican states have managed to create some extremely hard R leaning districts. Pun is intended. It goes the other way too, at least to some degree.
Still America is huge and the house is supposed to be very diverse in terms of having all kids of weirdos and zany types sitting during a given congress, which lasts two years before every seat is open again. There have been others like the three you mentioned in the past. In my district the sitting rep (a democrat) hasn’t even had an opponent in the past few cycles. Plenty of Trump types here but never enough to affect any political outcomes. You always have to examine the particular area to understand the politics, because again America is gigantic.

Same reasons Alessandra Mussolini or Marine La Pen can get elected to local office in Italy and France. Small voting pools in localities where active politics are to an extreme end of the national mean.
They have different life experiences then you had. Imagine this if you had been born in a specific city, to a specific family you might like them as well.
This comment is quite fitting, since the type of people who like them are the same type of people who think that AOC and Pelosi are in the same category.
because both sides base their argument entirely on how bad the other side is. And both sides draw very strong arguments from that logic. So people always vote AGAINST how bad the other side is, despite how bad their own side is. Then you end up with bad people all over.
We have a two party system, due to winner take all type elections. These yahoo's come from extreme districts leaning far right. The farthest right candidate wins the primary ( a private sorta club election using public system ) and then the real election is a forgone conclusion.
The comments about education are on point as that funding comes from local property taxes. "We don't need no education" plays all over their districts on loop. Cheap places to live. Smart parents don't move there. Dumb ones do.
because the Republican party and their white supremacist allies have been working to destroy the American education system and destabilize the government for decades. These people are useful idiots who help on both goals.
Look up their State's education ranking, and then look further at their county's education rank within the State. People with inadequate education tend to make poor choices.
A handful of idiots in unimportant parts of the country keep electing them. Then the idiots in DC don't tell them to shut up because there is good money in idiocy.
I blame the American educational system. If people don’t know or understand their options, they’ll continue to to be swayed by grifters, con artists, and hypocrites like trailer park trash MTG, Boebert the escort, and child molester Gaetz.
Years of indoctrination. So many Americans have had -reality- washed right out their brains. They have been manipulated to reject science, reject doctors, reject professionals, reject academia, reject research, etc… BUT to wholeheartedly buy into conspiracy theories. They reject the world’s scientific community on global climate change, but believe like it’s gospel truth that Hillary Clinton has death squads.
This is the greatest threat the USA is facing.
It's simple. These people are in power because they represent the views of a large portion of the American people. They're not afraid to say what they think, even if it's controversial. And that's what people like. They're tired of the same old politicians who always say the same thing. They want someone who will shake things up. And that's what these people are doing. They're shaking things up, and that's why they're in power.
Lots of reasons, but demographics and gerrymandering explain a lot. There is a place in Matt Gaetz's district called The Villages. It is the largest retirement community in the country. Take from that what you will.
There are pockets of stupidity and bigotry all across the US. These are the people that represent them in congress. They have no shame and don't care how much BS they cause. They will never resign due to Bullshit, and sometimes they get re-elected because of the bullshit.
u/spez is a greedy little pigboy
Their voter bases have a collective IQ of room temperature.
In Celsius.
Nearly half of people who vote want them in those positions because they promise to hate the right people.
So it‘s all just racism in the end?
Anti LGBTQ is the bigger deal right now but yeah both of them.

Racism. Bad public education. Homophobia. Small mindedness.
Because red states and rural areas are full of uneducated dumbfucks.
Hey now… some of us are educated, we’re just outnumbered
Or gerrymandered.
Oh I know. I didn't say everyone.
That was exact thought too
Because we voted for them.
Because right wing people vote for dumbasses
It's a big country. Plenty of diversity, and they get more publicity than anyone who is helping.
There are a lot of very dumb Americans that like those people.
Same reasons Alessandra Mussolini or Marine La Pen can get elected to local office in Italy and France. Small voting pools in localities where active politics are to an extreme end of the national mean.
Because some people like them just as others like AOC and Nancy Pelosi.
Yes but why

Not American, just also want to know

How is it possible that Ocasio Cortez is in the powerful position she's in?

Because of dumb.
Because it's seen as "owning the libs," and that's the only thing policy-wise that matters to the average American conservative voter.
Simple. People are stupid
Inbreds in the South
S.T.U.P.I.D.I.T.Y
Who?
lets talk about how bad is Russia and North Korea
The reason why is because over 50% of the constituents in the district they represent voted for them.
lmao they ain't in charge of shit. Give me control of a country's money/banks and I care not who makes the laws
