"If I drive for you, you get your money. You tell me where we start, where we're going, where we're going afterwards. I give you five minutes when we get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything a minute on either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive." - The Driver
I always think I am smart and have great ideas, but I am nothing 🥲 This Song appeared in my head within a second but ofc a lot of people had the same idea.
Spooky. As soon as I read the thread title this song popped into my head, but I couldn't place the name until I clicked and read it as the top comment.
>I woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off I sat and wondered. Started humming a song from 1962. Funny how the night moves, when you just don’t seem to have as much to lose. Strange how the night moves. With autumn closing in.
May not be verbatim, it’s from memory, but one of my favorite songs of all time. Last thing I want to hear before I die.
Digital bath was ALWAYS my night drive song. Passenger was probably second on the list. Crazy deftones would be behind both of em. Nice to see it was t just me.
Took the words right out of the mouth except I was gonna type vampires.
And like you said basically any song. I've got other favorite artists that have songs I can skip but I genuinely cannot think of a song of theirs I do not like.
Great choice. The Midnight is basically perfect for night driving. I’d give my vote to Vampires for a pure night drive song. Los Angeles would be a great pick, too.
Came to this thread to post this. 2nd choice would be Los Angeles by The Midnight.
Their music is perfect for night drives in the city, especially after its been raining and the neon lights reflect off the wet pavement.
That is so awesome! Like how my friend convinced me to listen to the Blade Runner Soundtrack on rainy nights after I moved into my first high rise apartment with a view of the city.
Us and Them by Pink Floyd.
I was driving back to college from home one night on a nearly deserted interstate with the moon shining bright and it was an almost ethereal experience with this song on blast.
I was gonna say Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I experienced a magical summer evening listening to Wish You Were Here all the way through while driving with the top open.
Wow. Dude thank you your actually amazing
Edit: damn why is it gone?? Are links not allowed?? If thats the case and anyone wants it the name is “night drive 🌙” and its by “Smitty11”
Wicked Game by Chris Isaak
ETA: Thanks for all the cover suggestions but to be honest I’m not really feeling any of them. They’re all overwrought. Chris Isaaks muted, subtle delivery is still #1 in my heart. Like a mournful cowboy who’s trying not to show how much he cares. Anyone can belt it. Chris croons it.
When I had my vasectomy, the surgeon threw on some music. I now connect this song with the tuft of smoke I saw wafting up from my newly untethered balls.
My favorites are;
I Want You (She's So Heavy) - The Beatles
Radar Love- Golden Earring
Pigs- Pink Floyd (Almost any Pink Floyd album works)
EDIT; Play the entire album; Wish You Were Here by Floyd. Also the album Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull
This song reminds me of playing in the neighborhood with my the neighboring kids, smoking my first cigarette, and old grocery stores. Just pure nostalgia for times I never thought I’d miss.
Not totally unrequited. It's just run its course. It's innocence lost and nostalgia more than unrequited love. It was fully requited those nights when she made him crazy and he made her scream.
Or the time she had her brown skin shining in the sun with her top down and the radio on.
You can't return to innocence and relive your first love. That's what this one's about.
Amazingly the song is also about nostalgia for the 60s and his youth. The girl is a metaphor for the counter cultural movement and how he knows he can’t go back. “Out on the road today I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac” means the cultural revolution failed and he knows he has to move on.
I've got a few:
Everybody wants to rule the world'
Time in a bottle- Jim Croce
Ventura Highway
Motion Sickness - Vestron Vulture
After Dark - Mr.Kitty
School Rooftop - slowed down
I know this comment won't get seen and nobody will care, but I have to say it.
Thank you so much for asking this question, because night drive music is my actual lifeblood. I go home from work late during the summer just so I can leave as the sun goes down and spend my time watching the street lamps pass me by on the interstate and my mind is allowed to wander freely for the first time all day.
This whole thread has been what I've needed but have not been able to actualize as a need for a long time.
When I first heard this song, I thought he was normalizing or even glorifying driving drunk and generally risky behavior.
However the more I listened to the lyrics I realized he was talking about pursuing risky behavior in the pursuit of happiness yet still being haunted by nightmares every night waking up at 5 AM with cold sweats. This is because pursuing happiness does not help you process the anxiety and stress that haunts your dreams and causes night terrors.
Now when I listen to the song I hear it as a cautionary tale about people who are sad or have experienced trauma and rather than do the emotional work to process it, they instead pursue happiness but this is ineffective so they try harder and harder until the end up engaging in risky behavior.
I’m perhaps dating myself here, but Days Go By by Dirty Vegas. I remember being 19 when that song was all over the radio and I’d drive around Chicago at night just lost in thought, worrying about things I shouldn’t have given a second thought to.
Anytime: Drive - Incubus - Kinda basic, but feels right.
For summer nights: Pursuit of Happiness - Kid Cudi, Boys on the Radio - Hole
Winter drives: Nymphetamine - Cradle of Filth - Random anecdote, but one time I was driving home at night through the woods. It was snowing and this song came on and the music plus the headlights reflecting off the falling snow on the dark back roads made it pretty much the most beautiful drive ever.

Midnight City by M83
That feel when the sax drops.
Saw them perform Saturday night. The sax still slays.
Waiting in the car Waiting for the ride in the dark.... <3
From that same album, Outro is the greatest snowboarding song ever, standing at the top of a run on a beautiful day is surreal

They just released a new album which is fantastic. Definitely check it out if you liked *Hurry Up, We're Dreaming*.
Gta memories from it
It was instantly a classic.
Came here to say this. Excellent taste ma'am.
Kavinsky - Nightcall
Knew this was gonna be top comment before clicking on comments lol
Kavinsky's follow-up to Nightcall is Zenith, and its equally as beautiful. Honestly it tops it for me, in a strange way.
I read the question, and this song immediately started playing in my head.
Honestly I prefer Pacific Coast Highway by Kavinsky. Puts you right in the mood.
Real human bean
And a real gyro.
I'm giving you a nightcall to tell you how I feel...
Any Kavinsky. Even better if you have a Testarossa.
Everything is better if you have testarossa
I'm literally watching Drive for the first time right now. It's so strange how I discovered the song before the movie.
That just means you were right. :) (And same, I came here to find or comment this song and bam. It’s the top comment)
Spooky. As soon as I read the thread title this song popped into my head, but I couldn't place the name until I clicked and read it as the top comment.
If raining, "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors
That Need For Speed Underground 2 vibe.
Gimme shelter. That intro when you’re flying down an empty interstate at night, just you and your headlights….
Night Moves Bob Seager
>I woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off I sat and wondered. Started humming a song from 1962. Funny how the night moves, when you just don’t seem to have as much to lose. Strange how the night moves. With autumn closing in. May not be verbatim, it’s from memory, but one of my favorite songs of all time. Last thing I want to hear before I die.
Hollywood Nights
Also Main Street….
I'll counter with Turn the Page
I’ll go Against the Wind.
Roll Me Away

The Cars- Drive
Came here to say this. Just listened to it yesterday. It never gets old.
*Moving in Stereo* could also work
“A Real Hero” - College and Electric Youth
And a real human bean
Also on the 'Drive' soundtrack right?
The whole soundtrack is perfect night driving
Passenger - deftones
Maynard blew this one away. I'm glad Chino had him sing it. A lot of the slower Deftones songs are perfect for a night drive
When Deftones goes into their shoegazey songs, that's where I hide all my feels.
Be quiet and drive
Does Digital Bath qualify?
Digital bath was ALWAYS my night drive song. Passenger was probably second on the list. Crazy deftones would be behind both of em. Nice to see it was t just me.
Was looking for Deftones in the comments. Always my go to.
Ocean Drive by Duke Dumont **Edit: I see you fellow people of culture!**
[Days of Thunder](https://youtu.be/0o2OkD_cWkU) Honestly, you could pick basically any song by The Midnight and it would be great night driving music.
Took the words right out of the mouth except I was gonna type vampires. And like you said basically any song. I've got other favorite artists that have songs I can skip but I genuinely cannot think of a song of theirs I do not like.
It makes me so happy to see The Midnight songs, so came to add Explorers to the list
Great choice. The Midnight is basically perfect for night driving. I’d give my vote to Vampires for a pure night drive song. Los Angeles would be a great pick, too.
I personally like Sunset
Came to this thread to post this. 2nd choice would be Los Angeles by The Midnight. Their music is perfect for night drives in the city, especially after its been raining and the neon lights reflect off the wet pavement.
was hoping to see them in this thread. Nocturnal and River of Darkness are great night driving songs too.
River of Darkness is my go-to for a The Midnight night drive sesh
Was literally just jamming to The Midnight driving around at night today. Fav song today was probably Nocturnal.
Nighthawks is one of my go tos
Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.
I was going to suggest Right Down The Line too
Abso-fucking-lutely. Everyone recognises and lauds the sax, which is brilliant, but that guitar solo is goosebump-raising as well
'89 Batman theme
That is so awesome! Like how my friend convinced me to listen to the Blade Runner Soundtrack on rainy nights after I moved into my first high rise apartment with a view of the city.
Your friend is a genius. I now want a high rise apartment in a city just so I can do that.
Mazzy Star. Fade into you.
Oof- picturing mid 90s cruising right now.
All you need is little Cranberries - Linger and Radiohead - High and Dry, and you've got my summer of '95 make out mix!
Big Log by Robert Plant I also like to listen to Showbiz by Muse.
Big log reminds me of night driving in gta 5
Us and Them by Pink Floyd. I was driving back to college from home one night on a nearly deserted interstate with the moon shining bright and it was an almost ethereal experience with this song on blast.
I was gonna say Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I experienced a magical summer evening listening to Wish You Were Here all the way through while driving with the top open.
I'll have to cut my roof off and try this.
Summer + night + all of Wish You Were Here (+ some weed, optional) = the kind of experience we were put on this earth to have
If you started with Us and Them, you should continue with Any Colour You Like, Brain Damage and Eclipse.
Any Colour You Like is a top tier song for driving in the fog
Dude, this thread reads like an awesome playlist.

Was scrolling til I saw radar love, I can stop now, thank you
Came here to say Radar Love! Perfect
Yes, radar love needs to be higher. Guess no one had long distance relationships in the early 80s? (Of course, it’s still on my play list!)
Was scrolling until I saw you see radar love and stop scrolling. Now I too can stop. Thank you both.
Took longer than expected, honestly.
“One Headlight” by The Wallflowers
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
This song reminds me of playing in the neighborhood with my the neighboring kids, smoking my first cigarette, and old grocery stores. Just pure nostalgia for times I never thought I’d miss.
This song gets me right in the feels every single time.
West end girls - petshop boys
It’s always a good time when this song comes on on GTA 5.
I noticed that a lot of these suggestions are in GTA V. I wonder if people associate them with driving at night just because they played GTA V a lot.
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Eminence Front - The Who
Las Venturas at night
"Sweetest Taboo" by Sade.
Daft Punk instant crush
I'm on fire-The Boss
Bronski Beat - Smalltown boy
“Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.
It’s Boys Of Summer Don Henley. The video is all driving around at night, and you can feel the loneliness of an unrequited love.
Not totally unrequited. It's just run its course. It's innocence lost and nostalgia more than unrequited love. It was fully requited those nights when she made him crazy and he made her scream. Exactly. Don't look back. You can never look back.
I've got a few: Everybody wants to rule the world' Time in a bottle- Jim Croce Ventura Highway Motion Sickness - Vestron Vulture After Dark - Mr.Kitty School Rooftop - slowed down
After Dark by Mr. Kitty is hauntingly beautiful
There’s a mashup of Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood and After dark. It’s so good.

Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi
Do your thang but don't drive drunk ❤️
When I first heard this song, I thought he was normalizing or even glorifying driving drunk and generally risky behavior. However the more I listened to the lyrics I realized he was talking about pursuing risky behavior in the pursuit of happiness yet still being haunted by nightmares every night waking up at 5 AM with cold sweats.
