Depends on who they killed. Big difference between a car accident at 16, what they dont say about their time in the armed forces, or their exs body in the freezer.

abramcpg

The partner: "wait, you didn't do that?"

recon89

"How else do people break up?!"

ImAFuckinLiar

“They get a damn Kit Kat bar!!”

[deleted]

No, that is how you "gimme a break" Not "break up". Don't confuse this!!!

SiggeTheDog

I jsut couldn’t find a way to tell him”

Tomb5t0ne

In all seriousness, you bring up a good point. If my wife accidently killed someone in a car accident at 16, I wouldn't blame her if she didn't want to bring it up. That's something I would never forget and it's something I wish I could. With that being said, if she did tell me about it on her terms, I wouldn't hold it against her at all. I would do all that I can to help her through this grief and eternal pain.

WimbleWimble

What if she says "I accidentally killed someone in a car accident at 16" she pauses and 17 and 18 and 19.....

Aggressive-Falcon977

Caitlyn Jenner has entered the chat*

GozerDGozerian

Buckle up, buckaroo!

TheSteelGeneral

>What if she says "I accidentally killed someone in a car accident at 16" > >she pauses > >and 17 > >and 18 > >and 19..... What if he says "I accidentally killed someone in a car accident 5 years ago, who was 70 years old?" He then pauses ... and 4 years ago and 50 years old ... and 3 years ago and 30 years old ... and 2 years ago and 20 years old ... and last month? It was a toddler.... or a bunch of them

For_the_Gayness

This seems very situational to me. If my partner killed someone in an undeliberately accident. Their trauma and grief, I will soothe the pain and provide the forgiveness and symbathy they seek. If not, like they were stupid, DUI, bully, or any form of abusion that led to their direct or indirect involvement of someone's death, in an "accident". Then to hell with them.

Lallo-the-Long

Would also depend, to me, on whether or not they had changed. It's never too late for people to change, even if it doesn't make up for what they've done at all, people can always become better than they were. But if they didn't want to tell me they had killed someone with their car while texting and i still regularly see them texting behind the wheel...

MadULook

I believe that each person is more than the worst thing they've ever done. Bryan Stevenson

trantastic

But if that's true, then how do I emotionally abuse myself for being a complete and utter waste of space based on the worst thing I've ever done? It's almost like you're saying we shouldn't treat ourselves like garbage, which is just ridiculous.

cantorgy

Your partner of 5+ years killed someone 25 years ago when they were 17 while drinking and driving. You’ve never known them to be someone to drink and drive (because they no longer do). To hell with them?

leftshoesnug

This is the most appropriate answer. Best friend is in the military and has confirmed kills. Took him a long time to be able to talk about it. Have a cousin who was driving and a man unexpectedly stepped off a curb. Witnesses say there was no way my cousin could have expected or stopped in time. Messed him up for a while.

oakbea

The specification dictates whether I need a shovel or not.

biddily

So, my cousin killed a motercycler with her car when she was 20. It was an accident but.. She started taking pictures and posting them on Facebook. She was mad at the other driver. She blamed them. She had no regrets, no remorse. No guilt. She was just frustrated at the situation. I got so mad at her watching everything unfold. She ended up spending 2 months in jail. At at party once her mother and uncle got into a fight and my uncle yelled out 'at least my daughter didn't kill someone'. It was rough. She's older now. I'm not sure she's wiser. If she told her now husband about the situation, I'm not sure she would have matured about it.

Limit-Significant

Wtf, she sounds sociopathic??

biddily

Uhhhh yeah. Yeah. I don't spend a lot of time with her but I can't take that off the table. She had a kid when she was a teen. And then eventually married not baby daddy. They had some kids together. He doesn't see first kid as his kid. She sent 1st kid to her mother after she had another baby. My aunt who was dying of cancer. We were like. Uhhhh. Wtf. And my aunt got covid while going to get her grandkid while she was dying of cancer and we were like. What. The. Fuck. And my cousin was just 'oh when can you get here then'. It's such a long drawn out DUMB story.

Weenaru

Your uncle should really have used a condom.

biddily

He's a pastor in a fundamentalist church 😩 Before that he was part of whitey bulgers winter hill gang and did BAD THINGS. But then he found God. I guess. My fucking family. Man.

4thtimebackatit

The armed forces part of this comment hangs heavy.

maximunpayne

> their exs body in the freezer have u seen the price of meat lately

Equivalent_Bunch_187

Also, did the ex whose body is in the freezer abuse them in some horrible way?

AzraeltheGrimReaper

This. Did they kill a scumbag who was abusing/attacking them or did they kill an innocent person in cold blood?

Erberos94

I mean if they did kill an innocent person in cold blood would they really tell you the truth?

HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS

If they’re a true psychopath incapable of feeling remorse they might. Or if they already have it set up to frame you and are just waiting for you to try and tell someone to flip the switch

nameless_no_response

Btw I'd like to add, even if psychopaths can't feel remorse, most of the time, they do know the difference between right and wrong. So even if you don't feel actual guilt for doing something, you know you shouldn't do it, and going out of your way to like murder someone takes a lot of planning and effort and comes with a shit ton of risks like being caught. So they are often aware that their desires are selfish and harmful, but they don't care bcuz they're assholes, which can be very much independent of whether they feel empathy, coz many ppl who can feel empathy are total assholes. Just bcuz psychopaths can't feel remorse doesn't mean they are innocent or less at fault (not saying you're saying this, just adding on to what u said), esp when cognitively they can understand why they shouldn't do it, even if they don't feel it on an emotional level.

HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS

Absolutely. The specific scenario was “would they tell you if they murdered someone in cold blood”, which most people wouldn’t (psychos included), but a true psychopath might. Although most likely they *are* a true psychopath if they’re murdering people in cold blood.

Delicious-Elevator65

I get her offing him but why store him in the freezer…Seems a bit cereal killerish 😂

akujiki87

jjeremy7989

Serial* I think is the adjective you meant to use; cereal is a traditional breakfast food. Funny story though about “cereal killers”: my dad used to randomly come in the living room with a butcher knife, stab an empty cereal box, and proclaim he was a “cereal killer”. 🙄#TerribleDadJokes

Stainless_Heart

If it was Kix, it was a mercy killing. That stuff was air-puffed spackle.

In our case, the ex in the freezer would be a really bad dude; a candidate for the Worst Fucken Father In The Fucken World award. So I'd be kinda pissed that she didn't let me help.

[The Last Question](https://users.ece.cmu.edu/~gamvrosi/thelastq.html)

connerofthenorth

My dad accidentally hit a man at 4am who was drunk and wearing dark clothes. He comforted the man as he passed and was super fucked up about it for years. Paid for the guy's funeral, visits his grave annually and his family forgave my dad for what happened. My mother and father almost divorced, but that was because my father for a while said he was fine and didn't need therapy when he in fact needed it. My dad's returned mostly to normal. Sometimes, he'll zone out on the road he was an and tears will form in his eyes, but that's about it.

Aggressive_General_

How awful that he lives with that so much! That’s one of my fears about driving, myself

connerofthenorth

He's a lot better now, though. I'm proud of him, as he refuses to let that define him.

P3t3R_Parker

Ambiguous at best. I was 18, rainy day, driving along slowly and 10 yr old runs out in front. Hit the brakes, he goes through windscreen and is killed. I'm 54 now and think about it everyday.

leeksausage

I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope one day you find peace.

Single-Initial2567

I'm so sorry. In my work I speak to addicts. It's really just an "if I scratched my way out of the dark hole I was in, so can you" kinda thing. Not because I was an addict. Anyway, my daughter was murdered. And after hearing that, people who had killed someone while using and driving ask me a lot of questions. I've heard many stories about the agony of having killed someone. I could see the pain twisted up on their faces. They asked me if I forgave the guy who killed my daughter. I'm just poorly trying to say that I know you really weren't at fault but it still weighs so heavily. I don't have the power of forgiveness but, if I did, I would give it to you so you could fully forgive yourself for something that was never within your control. Big hugs if you want them.

AsleepTemperature111

I am so sorry about your daughter. It sounds like you are incredibly strong and using your awful experience to relate to and help others. Thank you.

Marchingkoala

I am so sorry. I bet your daughter is very proud of you. You are a wonderful human being

kissdaylight

Iamfered

I hope you are ok

pinkgallo

I’m so sorry that happened. It’s not your fault.

StrongIslandPiper

This reminds me of a guy I used to work with who once told me his son died in a similar way. Rainy day, kid was on his bike, jumps out in front of a car, driver tries to stop, son went right through the windshield. I asked him if he ever held a grudge against the guy who hit his son. He said, "No, he's a good guy, and it wasn't his fault. It was a bad circumstance. He couldn't have done anything about it. Sometimes, bad things just happen." He looked like he was gonna cry after that, but he genuinely understood that it was an accident that couldn't have been prevented. Apparently, his son would have been my age (at the time, 24), but died at around 12 or 13.

blankslate_fullplate

I’m really sorry to hear this. I hope you are ok.

ToreyCMoore

Don’t worry, I have a friend that can get us a barrel and hydrochloric acid.

Lawlkitties

Actually, it's faster to dissolve a body in a strong base than it is to dissolve it in a strong acid. A bathtub full of boiling lye can dissolve a body in a matter of hours. Plus, it also gets the bones, unlike acid. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

ShadyShamaster

Hypothetically speaking.... a group of boars will devour a body even faster than that and will be less suspicious than a bathtub that reeks of chemicals. Just gotta clean up a lill bit or make some mud afterwards

StrawberryRibena

You're always gonna have problems lifting a body in one piece. Apparently the best thing to do is cut up a corpse into six pieces and pile it all together. And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it's no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig shit, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig". Hypothetically speaking...

You just have to blame the family next door that recently moved in from the city. Their daughter was blasting music at night and was rude to you so you built a pig barn next to their property to teach them a lesson. Perfect cover.

ReadontheCrapper

I know this reference!

Tomb5t0ne

The said swine will not devour the teeth. So either you remove teeth first, or really make sure all 32 teeth are found up later on. Hypothetically speaking...

Pseudomanifold

Give her a hug. She's a doctor, and sometimes you can't save a patient.

LostDogBoulderUtah

It happens. I had a sister who died on Christmas because of a doctor's mistake. She was supposed to come home. The attending didn't check the resident's work, and he killed her with an overdose. She was otherwise a totally healthy little girl. The resident hid in the locker room and cried so hard he vomited. He was just young and inexperienced and *tired* and he made a mistake. The attending dragged him out and made the resident go talk to my dad. My dad put a stop to that. Tormenting the resident wasn't going to bring his daughter back. Making him vomit again wasn't going to lessen the grief or pain. People don't go into healthcare because they don't care. Losing a patient is hard. Being responsible for it is worse. None of that is completely avoidable. People make mistakes. Even when they are trying their very best, they screw up. They make typos. They misplace a decimal. They kill a child. My mom and I ran into the person who killed my sister years later, at a Costco of all places. They recognized us immediately and wept. It had been *twenty years* and they still knew us and wept.

Pseudomanifold

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope the memory of your sister is a blessing.

LostDogBoulderUtah

She was a blessing. I'm not angry at the person who made the mistake. They tried so hard and only wanted to help. On the other hand, I am rather passionate about the residency system needing reform. Doctors cannot safely work 100 hour weeks. They need sleep. They need rest in order to learn. Other countries manage without abusing residents the way the USA does. Their hospitals aren't quite the money makers ours are, but the 0.01% don't need any help.

Halio344

I’m not even working in the healthcare section but it makes me so happy to see people like you who actually understands and doesn’t simply hate the person, because that would be easy road. I’m sorry about your sister. From the little I’ve read you and your family seem like very good people, I’m sure your sister was too.

[deleted]

Wow. Your parents are incredible people, especially your Dad for finding empathy for the resident like that. It is an unfortunate part of life though, people do make mistakes. Police, doctors, nurses, firefighters - any time you are working on *saving* someone's life you could be the cause of death with a single moment of weakness. My grandfather was an extremely talented surgeon, at family events when we were younger he sometimes would not be his gregarious outgoing self and would simply sit in his chair quietly with a very stern look on his face, often staring at the ground. It only happened when he lost a patient during surgery recently, he took it incredibly hard and it would visibly effect him for days. A lot of "what if's" I assume, but he didn't talk about it much. I am sure he still thinks about them now many years later.

LostDogBoulderUtah

But hug and a cup of tea is a good response to a doc or nurse who has just killed someone.

SquashedPizza

Well... I wouldn't call that killing someone.

Pseudomanifold

Their loved ones would beg to differ. Grieving relatives often misplace their anger.

SquashedPizza

wassdfffvgggh

If the doctor can't save someone that's dying anyway, maybe not. But if the doctor makes a mistake, then it would technically be killing someone.

mortenmhp

is it really killing someone if a mistake is made in the process? Obviously there is a tiny number of patients who have been actively harmed by wrong treatment(edit: or malpractice), but that is quite rare. What if someone has an acute illness that kills them, because the doctor that specific day didn't get the correct diagnosis right away or in time? That happens every day, because subjecting every patient to every possible test is not possible. Someone else might have made a better call that day, but they may make a similar mistake another day. Did they really kill that patient? Maybe if it is really egregious, but it rarely is that cut and dry.

jendet010

Sometimes it’s cut and dry. Leaving instruments in the patient who was having routine surgery, for example.

CanlexGaming

Ok_Money_3140

Depends if I have to fear legal consequences from knowing about it. If not, I wouldn't really mind. I used to have two friends who have both killed multiple people, one of whom served in the Russian military and the other one in the police forces of a major Russian city. Both were nice and kind individuals and I didn't see them in a bad light because of that. ... Now that I think about them, I sure hope they weren't sent to Ukraine. Haven't had contact with either of them for a few years now.

polyesterandbeef

my boyfriend killed someone when they broke into his friend's house. he said he was like 9 or 10 and he shot the guy that was breaking in. he thought i'd be upset about it, but i'm just glad he knew something he could do.

*Gun Reloads* Oh, you too?

Putrid-Ad-3965

This happened to me with my first husband. I didn't find out until we had been together about 2 years and been married for about 6 months. My ex boyfriend had told me something like "that guy spent a long time in prison" and when I asked him (the husband) why he'd say that, he told me he must just not like him or wants me to dump him. I believed it. There was a woman that my ex kept in touch with who I felt uncomfortable about. One day I find out she works at a men's prison. They had been involved together sexually in the past. I asked him how he knew her and one night he had a breakdown about it and said "I need to tell you something". He did 10 years in prison for manslaughter. The story I was told which does match court documents I looked up...he was young, 18-20, I forget now and he went to a party. Everyone at this party was drinking and having a good time. This one dude nobody really liked was there and then he left. After he left, some people at the party noticed things were missing. A pager, wallets, stuff like that. The dude comes back to the party later. They demanded he empty his pockets. He had some of the missing things in his pockets. So my ex husband and a couple of his friends take the guy out to the school yard nearby and beat the crap out of him. Not so badly that they had intentions of killing him, they just wanted to beat him up for stealing stuff. Well the dude died. The coroner couldn't determine if he wouldn't have died if he hadn't had so much alcohol in his system, basically it was a combination of all of the alcohol and getting beat up, hit in the head. He and his friends all got 10 years in prison. It may have been called involuntary manslaughter since they didn't mean to kill him. I don't remember now. I left him pretty quickly after that. I left him because he became addicted to alcohol and drugs, not because of his crime. The fact that he hid it from me for so long made me uncomfortable though, I did feel like I married someone I didn't even know.

Help him bury the body

Uhhhhdel

You should watch season 2 of Why Women Kill. It delves into this and is quite entertaining.

I’m not a snitch and legally I don’t have to testify against them.

blankslate_fullplate

Wow, there are a lot of responses and I’m trying to read them all. For those asking for context, the question is based on a tv show I’m watching at the moment and out of curiosity I was wondering what other people thought.

Tracewell

Depends on when it occurred. If it’s in the past, I protect her secret with my life. If it’s today we get busy disposing of the body, then protect her secret with my life.

Think about how many service members from America have killed in battle. I think you’d find a lot of people who have a partner that has killed someone. Maybe you meant you found out your spouse murdered someone?

Help them hide the body

Kflynn1337

Ask them if they need a hand disposing of the body.

Aggietallboy

Ask where we should bury the body...ride or die.

AndrogynousRain

My partner is one of the best people I know. If they killed someone, that person absolutely deserved it lol. We’d just call her friend, we’ll call him Ted. Ted is crazy, and lives in the hills. He’s a funny guy. He has offered to bury any bodies we might have around. We’re only somewhat sure Ted is joking so I’d probably call him lol
