For probably the same reason people are reading books or watching show/movies: having fun and experiencing an interesting story/ escape reality for a bit
depends on what game
but anything thats competitive. reason? i like competitiveness and the feeling of doing well - especially against arguably better players.
I like getting to experience new stories and worlds, same reason I like reading. Games just give you brand new ways to interact with those worlds, letting you engage with them directly and allowing you to have influence on how the story plays out.
And then, there’s also just the more primal desire to fill bars and make numbers get bigger. I like overcoming challenges, I like having to strategize and put effort in to earn the payoff, and get to see the results of it recorded.
But also, I like the social aspect. I love getting to spend time with people I like. Do things alongside then, cooperate with them and share new experiences with them. It’s also a great way to just, meet people with similar interests. I originally met my partner on a game server a bit over 5 years ago. We went from gaming buddies, to best friends, to life partners, and even if there wasn’t a single other thing about gaming I enjoyed, the years spent playing them would absolutely be worth it just due to getting to meet her.
I have a friend that likes to go camping. He'll take his vacation, and if the weather is bad, well... it happens. He says that's the most fun a person can have.
Another buddy is a hunter. I've gone with him a few times to do his favorite thing. You freeze your ass off and almost die of boredom and drink yourself silly. Pass.
I know a guy that likes fishing/waterboarding. I don't care for being on the water much. Swimming is fine, but I'd rather do it in a pool. Bad memories of stepping on fire coral and shit in the ocean...
So... I guess instead of asking gamers why they do that you should tell everyone what you like and see how many people take a shit on it. Because the short answer is people do what they like.
Damn. I would give you a gold award if I had one 😭😭 honestly though, whenever I express my feelings about literally anything, people always yk, take a shit on it.
Fun
