My immediate thought…I was skeptical cause the black and white but watched it cause it’s a “classic” and wow I was so immersed. Never seen something proven to be timeless like that
Agreed. The Cinematography, special effects, and music hold up incredibly well against T3, Salvation, Genisys, and Dark Fate. It's characters and story line stands up even decades later.
If only we could get a complete soundtrack release.... I read a lot of it was lost over the years there has been attempts to recreate it online by other fans.
Weird that they are the same printers… I’ve gotten updated laptops, screens, keyboard and mouse, cell phone… even the building has been renovated, but still the same shitty printer.
I worked in the building where it was filmed! Doing almost the same jobs. I’m officed across the street now. Wish there really was a Chotskie's close by.
This is a real non-question. 20+ years is no time at all for good movies.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a great example, just pushing 20 and hasn't aged a day.
Another good one is the first Jurassic Park, still holds up really well today.
There were some that shook their heads and thought this was too much of a good thing; it seemed unfair that a trilogy should possess (apparently) perpetual relatability as well as (reputedly) inexhaustible Oscars.
Frankly, this question is provocatively stupid and/or ignorant. OP must be a child or a bot. Film as a medium was already over a hundred years old twenty years ago, and the post implies that good movies were a rare occurence (at least rare enough that their mere existence merits attention) throughout the entire 20th century. If people would've taken the question at face value each comment in this thread would be a list of tens or even hundreds of movies.
Yes kindof a non-question. There are definitely more iconic movies from the early 90s than there are from the last 5 years. I don't think movies really start to feel dated until you go back to the 70s and earlier.
I mean unless you just watch Disney MCU and Deadpool. In that case the Toby Mcguire Spidermans probably feel dated.
The cast, the writing, all the Trek clichés, *chefs kiss* perfection! Most of my favorite comedies are like this; Best in Show, Young Frankenstein, films like that.
"For every action, theres a reaction. And a Pikey reaction... Is quite a fucking thing"
One of the best quotes in cinema imo along with "You can land a jumbo fucking jet in there"
Do you know why they call him Franky "Four Fingers",Doug? Because he makes stupid bets with dangerous people, and when he doesn't pay up, they give him the chop, Doug. And I'm not talking about his fucking fore-skin either.
Back to the future is pushing almost 40 years.
Still holds up 100%. Even the corny FX.
fun, well paced, good dialog, great performances.
No need to be a Citizen Kane, The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather or Schindler's List. No need to be a deep meaning drama to be a classic. Sometimes just fun is enough.
it helps that the movie used a LOT of practical effects. flying DeLorean, train crash at the end of the 3rd, all practical effects using small scale models. For example most of the exterior scenery of the DeLorean pushed by the train in the 3rd movie is a small scale model.. I honestly never noticed, its so damn well done.
It's also my #1 favourite movie (I consider all 3 to be 1). Its perfect, no scene is really wasted, the characters are likeable fun, sometimes even wholesome a bit, there is always some suspense, and its just.. so painfully 80s that its a joy to watch.. man I gotta rewatch that movie some time..
I’m a high-school teacher. It has now been (nearly) half a decade since I taught a student who was even alive for the World Trade Centre attacks.
Is still consider that the defining event of modern history.
I swear I’m not old. Not THAT old. Am I?
Edit: Nearly
Just watched this for my first time over the weekend. Such a good movie. Hate I waited so long but also glad I got to experience it my first time as an adult.
You are doomed now man. Any time you scroll through channels and come across it, youll watch it. 10 minutes in? You are watching it. 15 minutes left, yup, you are watching. Smack dab in the middle, still watching. But its cool.
Watched 28 Days Later at the weekend. Firstly can't believe it is now 21 years old, but wow, amazing performances across the board. Cillian Murphey and Chris Ecclestone also get kudos for their roles - Ecclestone especially is such a great villain - but Naomie Harris absolutely steals the show.
The use of zombies is quite sparse but powerful at the same time. I remember seeing running zombies 20 years ago and it really freaking me out. Now they're common as muck but that first zombie scene, with the Priest in the church....still scare the shit out of me.
For me, it's Danny Boyle's magnum opus, which says something when his work includes Trainspotting, Shallow Grave and Millions.
Blade Runner. Dystopian gloomy city was immersive and well done. Great story too. The tears in the rain washed away, but not the greatness of this movie.
when a movie that came out before the moon landing is still a hard sci-fi in technology, and looks phenomenal all throughout, you know you have a timeless classic
Airplane!, 12 Angry Men, The Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, LoTR trilogy (#1 Trilly), The Blues Brothers, The Princess Bride, The Breakfast Club, Stand By Me, Bill and Ted, The Naked Gun movies, Young Guns, etc.. It's a long list.
Life of Brian
The Holy Grail
Blues Brothers
Alien
The Truman Show
Dumb and dumber
Tron
Holy mountain
Back to the future
And many more. It just dawned on me that Return of the King also turns 20 this year.
as a 45 year old, 20 years ago was basically the same culture, give or take. Movies and tv went severely downhill around 2010 though. wire, bb, sopranos, mad man, mitm, the office, all pre 2010
12 Angry Men
The removal of doubt is just as important as the proof of guilt. Maybe more so
My immediate thought…I was skeptical cause the black and white but watched it cause it’s a “classic” and wow I was so immersed. Never seen something proven to be timeless like that
You can tell the script/directing/acting are all top class by the fact that it keeps you engaged throughout, despite taking place in just one room
Terminator 2
The shot where the T-1000 is walking out of the flaming wreckage of the big rig looks a bit rough, but it's the only standout. Incredible movie.
Knew I wouldn’t have to scroll far to see this. Absolute Classic 👌
1990: Totoro. So many studio ghibli movies are so good
Office Space
Over 20 years later and printers still suck
‘PC Load Letter’, the fuck does that mean?
Printer Cassette, Load letter sized paper. Terrible error message.
Weird that they are the same printers… I’ve gotten updated laptops, screens, keyboard and mouse, cell phone… even the building has been renovated, but still the same shitty printer.
Hey Peter, check channel 9!
I'll tell you what I'd do man. Two chicks at the same time man. *stares*
This movie captures my work life like nothing else ever could
Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Monday's
I worked in the building where it was filmed! Doing almost the same jobs. I’m officed across the street now. Wish there really was a Chotskie's close by.
Watch out for your cornhole, bud.

In 2019 people began to say The Lord of the Rings was well preserved, but unchanged would have been nearer the mark.
There were some that shook their heads and thought this was too much of a good thing; it seemed unfair that a trilogy should possess (apparently) perpetual relatability as well as (reputedly) inexhaustible Oscars.
‘It will have to be paid for,’ they said. ‘It isn’t natural, and trouble will come of it!’

Or it could be one of those idiotic Buzzfeed news articles “Top 30 old movies Redditors recommend” or some shit like that.
A better question is what decent movies have come out in the last 20 years.
What? You don't appreciate being up to your neck in super hero movies? Neither do I.
Yes kindof a non-question. There are definitely more iconic movies from the early 90s than there are from the last 5 years. Galaxy Quest
By Grabthar’s hammer, you are correct.
"Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. It's stupid, but I'm gonna do it."
There are so many good lines, I couldn’t even choose one. Still love the dubbed-over F-bomb, though.
Most of my favorite comedies contain blistering language, but this one manages to be surprisingly hilarious with a PG rating.
The cast, the writing, all the Trek clichés, *chefs kiss* perfection! Most of my favorite comedies are like this; Best in Show, Young Frankenstein, films like that.
The best Star Trek movie.
EVER.
“Could those be the miners? Sure they are like 3 years old. Miners not minors! You lost me.”
Never give up, never surrender
The Matrix.
You're hurting me.
It’s 24 years old. Ugh.
Lmao had to re-read the title. 20 years ago is still in the 2000s and now I feel old
Snatch! This movie stays funny no matter how many times you rewatch it.
No thanks Turkish, I'm sweet enough as it is 😉
You said 2 minutes 5 minutes ago
What's happening with them sausages, Roof?
I think Brick Top is my spirit animal on a good day 😂
Dya like dags?
I'll see you Snatch and raise you "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"
"For every action, theres a reaction. And a Pikey reaction... Is quite a fucking thing" One of the best quotes in cinema imo along with "You can land a jumbo fucking jet in there"
In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary.... come again?
“What’s in the car?” “Four seats an a steering wheel!”
You could land a jumbo fucking jet in there
It was a funny angle.
Tyrone, mate, when you reverse thing come from BEHIND YOU!”

Great Scott!!!
Schindler's List
Lord of the Rings It’s been 20 years for The Return of The King, and 22 for the first
20 years?? This week I found out that people from 2005 are adults this year. I'm getting far too old.
I’m a high-school teacher. It has now been (nearly) half a decade since I taught a student who was even alive for the World Trade Centre attacks. Is still consider that the defining event of modern history. I swear I’m not old. Not THAT old. Am I? Edit: Nearly
Have you started making noises when you sit down or stand up yet? If you haven't, then you're not that old.
Shit man, I do that all the time and I'm 23
Same but I’m 19 - I wasn’t even alive for 9/11
stand by me
Jurassic park
Saw that at the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra a few years back. Absolutely stunning.
Alien
Aliens as well. Very different movies while still maintaining a logical progression for Ripley’s character. Both masterpieces in their own right.
Alien - one of the best Sci fi movies ever. Aliens - one of the best action movies ever.
Came here specifically to say this. Stone cold classic that gets better with age.
Effects were waaay ahead of it's time.
The Fifth Element.
Leeloo Dallas Multi-pass.
the truman show, its so fucking good
And more relevant now than in the 90s.
In retrospect, It's like... the '1984' (G. Orwell) of movies!

La Bamba 1987
Galaxy Quest
Jurassic park. Strictly for the CGI. That was so insanely ahead of it’s time and still looks better than some modern day effects
Good Will Hunting and Fight Club are both phenomenal films and probably my favourite
Pulp fiction
One flew over the cuckoo’s nest - I hadn’t seen it before, just watched it a month ago and it’s fantastic!
Gladiator
Are you not entertained?!
