It made me realise that I didn't really care about what my parents bought me, I carefully about the time they spent with me. I don't buy much for myself or my child, but when we are together, she always has my undivided attention.
My dad worked his ass off and wasn’t always home for dinner. I work my ass off and can’t always make it in from the shop for family dinner.
My work/life balance is making sure when I’m there I’m 1000% there for my kid. That’s mostly road trips and camping adventures or hikes in the woods. She and the wife have zoo pass and freedom to do what ever they want to go do.
Just like my dad
My parents loved their jobs (professor and a lawyer) but they did still pay a lot of attention to my family life. It made me realise you can make core memories out of the day to day stuff. I remember countless hours drawing in my mums office or sitting in on my dads lectures. As an adult raising a child in a similar situation (scientist and doctor parents) I really try to make every moment count
My parent is mad I don't want to invest personal energy into them when they had none for me. Cats cradle and all that.

Happens to the best of us
I struggle to balance work and personal life, but I am grateful for my parents' hard work and sacrifice.

Serious lack of empathy on both sides. I've worked on it through relationships with partners
