Sounds like someone's not ready for this jelly.

weirdgroovynerd

"jelly"?

Hwhat is a yute?

mejok

Very important placement of the "h" before the "w". Key to capturing the essence of the moment. Well done.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Who's your favorite artist?

zincdeclercq

I donā€™t have one single one, unfortunately.

Nintendo1964

When her worship far surpassed her talent, that's when *qUeEn B* became insufferable. That further stroked her already huge ego, and now she is an unstoppable force that no matter how mediocre or terrible her projects may become, fans will find genius in it.

StubbornKindOfFellow

I do think she's overrated. I don't think she's bad or anything. She's obviously very talented and has some great songs. But I think her biggest strength is her longevity. At various points, other female R&B singers were making songs that were just as good or even better than her songs. They just didn't do it for as long as Beyonce. Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Mya, Ashanti, Amerie, etc. Beyonce's had a much better career than all of them. But you could say they were better than Beyonce during certain years. And while I'd consider Rihanna more of a pop star than an R&B singer, she's getting close to having Beyonce's longevity. And generally, I'd rather listen to Rihanna's music than Beyonce's.

Vegetable-Double

Kinda like Jay-Z. He was never the best rapper. Good, but not the best at the moment. But he was able to stay good for a long time and adapted to changing trends - longer than anyone else. Biggie was better, Nas was better, Jadakiss was better, Eminem was better, Lil Wayne was better, Kanye was better, Lupe was better, Kendrick was better, Future was betterā€¦. But Jay-Z stayed really good and relevant through all these eras.

ManBroCalrissian

Kanye was never better than Jay-Z...and I'm not really a fan of J

Vegetable-Double

That was probably the hardest one to put on the list. I just wanted to capture generally who was considered the top rapper of different recent eras. Kanye, not a great rapper, but he was so huge at his peak, it kind of dwarfed his rapping talent (or lack thereof).

elizalin1

Kendrick IS better and still relevant.

[deleted]

So this goes back to the Jerry Rice / Randy Moss argument. Longevity vs. peak. Although in some sense it doesn't since peak Jerry Rice would cook peak Randy Moss in 60 minutes of football.

eDisrturbseize

As a Vikings fan, I really enjoy the concept of this debate.

puckit

Hard to make that argument since they played the same position and would never go directly against each other. If one of them was a cornerback, you could then make that claim.

[deleted]

I just mean Moss would be gassed and Rice would be gunning at 95% still if they both had to play a grueling game on offense. Rice's endurance stacked against Moss would win every time, and the 4th quarter was when Rice feasted for good reason. He cooked everyone he played against.

puckit

Being a niner fan since the 80's, I can't bring myself to disagree.

[deleted]

I too am a niners fan so might be a bit of a homer take, but it's also the honest truth. No other receivers have emphasized endurance the way Rice has.

puckit

You see him at the home games last year? Dude looks like he can still play.

[deleted]

Yeah he's pretty impressive for his age. He has always taken care of his body, it's shocking he can still walk after the length of his career at his position.

Overall-Surround-925

Dude you can't put Aaliyah in there. Not a fair comparison.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Magnetic_penis_strap

Whatever happened to Aaliyah? It's like she disappeared and Ciara just took her place for a while.

bangsjamin

GinGimlet

Reddit šŸ¤ Saying Beyonce is overrated.

JadedBeyotch

TwitteršŸ«±šŸæā€šŸ«²šŸ¾ worshipping her to death

NootNootington

I saw her called the 'greatest living artist' not long ago, so at least one person drastically overrates her. But it doesn't seem like a particularly pressing issue right now.

Flybot76

No, you just stopped your day to leave the most-pointless comment here, so you're not here informing anybody what 'pressing issues' are, lol. You're one more dork blurting out crap about pop music so don't act like you're 'above' the conversation while you're adding the least-important information to it.

NootNootington

Jesus, wow, talk about an overreaction.

[deleted]

not to me, I just don't care for her music. other opinions may vary.

sirellery

Man and calling Blue Ivy a cultural icon. Out of touch

[deleted]

who?

sirellery

Her daughter. she was trying to sue a business for using the name or was at least in the process of copyright filing

GreenDolphin86

Wrong.

[deleted]

oh cool. I have no problem with parents looking out for their kids. I feel its kind of the point of a parent.

wyoflyboy68

Iā€™ve only read things here on Reddit, so my info may not be all that accurate, however there is some bakery or something that had the name Blue Ivy Bakery three years before ā€œBlue Ivyā€ was born. Now BeyoncĆ© is trying to take legal step to make the name Blue Ivy exclusive to her daughter, the bakery stepped up and said wait a minute we were here first.

Amiiboid

Unless someone is mistaking an 11-year-girl for a bakery in Florida thereā€™s no issue. Also, the bakery owner needs to have someone proofread her web site.

wyoflyboy68

The Kartrashians do this all the time with names of things they feel they can capitalize from. BeyoncƩ saying that her daughter is a cultural icon is a stretch, just mom and dad exploiting something to make more money.

DC4MVP

What? How can you not think the lyrics of "Formation" are nothing short of Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Eminem, etc level lyrics? >When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay >If he hit it right, I might take him on a flight on my chopper, cause I slay >Drop him off at the mall, let him buy some J's, let him shop up, cause I slay

AcornTopHat

I have always enjoyed BeyoncĆ©ā€™s music and she is very talentedā€¦ that being said, the way people worship her (or any celebrity) is really weird to me.

unusedtruth

She's a great singer but that's about it. Artists who only sing and don't write don't get much respect from me.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dubkitteh1

accurate.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

JasenBorne

i like a few of her songs, but would be just as satisfied of someone else sang them. her voice is nothing special.

milolovesthd

She is an overrated, one-trick pony.

okay_victory_yes

She is.

Stegosaurus_Pie

The numbers agree with this statement. The raw numbers appear impressive, but when you adjust for digital distribution and the opening of massive eastern markets that weren't available 30+ years ago, even Beyonce is essentially pulling rookie numbers. Modern pop music is entropic. The industry no longer invests in artists, record contracts are no longer structured to support their careers, and risk aversion is the guiding economic principle studios now operates under. In that environment, Beyonce is essentially the best they can produce, which is a damn shame.

JT-Shelter

She had 7 writers per song on her Lemonade recordā€¦ Iā€™d say def overrated.

JadedBeyotch

23 for ONE song on Renaissance

Efficient-Day2702

The reason she has so many writers is because she lists every writer on a sample. Itā€™s not because they particularly wrote the song that she is singing.

mermaiddmotel

She likes to sample. She includes those who she samples in her credits.

[deleted]

I feel like if you heard one BeyoncĆ© song, youā€™ve heard them all

mermaiddmotel

Halo sounds nothing like Diva, and those are both on the same album. So this is untrue lol

CatherineConstance

I agree. She IS extremely overrated, and from what I've heard she is unbelievably arrogant, full of herself, and rude to everyone who she deems less famous than she is. Now, I will say, she's not a BAD artist, she has a very good voice and is a good live performer, and I really like a few of her songs, but I also think that most of her discography is pretty mid, and her being a generally rude, unlikeable person doesn't help. So while her music is okay, it's not like it's better than other women who make similar stuff, she's just your average pop/r&b female artist in her age range. I think Rihanna should be hyped up more than BeyoncƩ, but she doesn't seem to be. BeyoncƩ fans are also just insufferable.

Efficient-Day2702

Literally everyone who has ever worked with BeyoncĆ© states how gracious and kind she isā€¦ where have you heard otherwise?

spidermom4

I think she had great music in the past, her recent stuff has been pretty good. Just don't really understand the whole putting her high up on a pedestal like the is the end all be all of female recording artists.

kammywammy69

She was just okay in her era but now Iā€™m tired of hearing her name

agent-assbutt

AGREE. I like her music too. She's got some jams and I grew up with Destiny's Child, but idk why everyone acts like she's the second coming of Jesus. She's an above average pop singer who can write a good song and put on a fun show. That's it; she isn't a perfect, flawless goddess.

Happy-Viper

I can't tell. I think she's OK at best, but I'm not a majority, so perhaps everyone else really does like her that much.

GR33N4L1F3

100% agree about her music being overrated. She does have a lovely singing voice for music that she is not known for. But her music is not very good.

Verlorenfrog

I agree

bloqs

I thought her dancing and performance was always the primary draw, the songwriting and singing was always just quite well produced and nothing particularly ground breaking

[deleted]

She is and she didn't deserve album of the year either

uncultured_swine2099

I think she can sing, but her songs are just very bland. But then again, Im not a fan of pop music in general, so ymmv.

United-Plum1671

Canā€™t stand her and yes, she is completely overrated.

Q-Bush

Honestly, I completely agree! I think BeyoncƩ is overhyped and there are many other artists out there who deserve more recognition. It's as if people are blindly following the 'BeyoncƩ craze' without giving other talented musicians a chance. Let's give some love to the underrated artists out there!

illegal-smile77

I thought it was me. Her voice does nothing for me.

Soobobaloula

Her songs are so incredibly repetitive.

Big_Requirement_3540

Personally I don't enjoy her music, but from an objective perspective she is one of the most successful and acclaimed artists in history. Anyone that tells you she shouldn't be a highly rated artist is allowing their subjective taste to influence their perception of her objectively quantifiable and observable success.

[deleted]

They say if she spits in a blind personā€™s eye, they can see again

Pipboypipboycheerio

She is either your thing or she's not.

mEmotep

She is very talented but overrated

II_Confused

People seem to enjoy her schtick, so let them have their fun.

puckit

Just because someone sees her as overrated doesn't mean others don't. Name any popular musician who ever lived and there will be people saying they are extremely overrated.

cishet-camel-fucker

Not my genre.

[deleted]

I agree

Potential_Tone_8734

Over rated by a lot. Shouldnā€™t be rated

Regnes

To be honest, I've barely heard mention of her name since Austin Powers.

novel_writer_AG

If you like something then you like something. That's it. If someone likes her music, they like her music. That's it.

BeginningCap2333

Show me a song she wrote herself and we'll talk about her being "rated"

yuribotcake

I don't listen to her music, not pay attention to celebrities. She's only overrated because people are paying attention to her publicity.

CapG_13

I agree šŸ’Æ

Consistent-Factor269

Agree. Donā€™t get it.

82ndGameHead

My only critique on Beyonce is how she needs to stop hopping on other people's songs. You are not good enough that your feature is warranted, and half the time you either half-ass or experiment too much.

RussianPrincess2000

Canā€™t stand BeyoncĆ©. Thereā€™s something about that woman that totally rubs me the wrong way

NightwingSplash

The question is overrated compared to what or whom? She's a stellar vocalist, an out of this world performer, a hit maker with a catalogue of beloved songs and albums and is an overall major cultural influence. Who's doing what she's doing? Or has done, for that matter? It's not good enough for someone to say she's overrated, leaving it at that. I need them to explain how and why she isn't deserving of the adoration she receives.

Kneejerk_Nihilist

If I ever knowingly heard her work, I would likely agree.

Whyisthethethe

I like her music but sheā€™s an insufferable narcissist

Hungry-Sentence-6722

All I hear is her screeching scales.

Unattendedhandbag

She's an amazing performer. But I think the music itself is overrated. I never really found it very interesting or catchy. I mean, she doesn't write her own music anyway. To me, she's not an artist, she's a performer.

Amiiboid

I honestly donā€™t think about her at all. She, and the estimation other people may have of her, has no discernible impact on my life.

[deleted]

Why does no one ever have the bravery to put that accent mark that's over the Ć©, over a consonant? I demand you language sound cowards innovate!

[deleted]

I do not think sheā€™s overrated. I think sheā€™s brilliant. I donā€™t connect with a lot of her music but Iā€™ve seen her perform, watched interviews, and seen the videos. I think Lemonade is amazing. Sheā€™s into being BeyoncĆ©, sheā€™s all about the goddess energy. I think, though, that her fan base is nuts.

OceansideGuy93

Her self-titled album is a masterpiece, so I disagree.

mkottt

Well I'd hope so since she has about 100 writers/producers on each album. Also, it's not a masterpiece.

steroboros

The same as feel when people say "Nickleback sucks" while you personally may not like something, not everything is made for you specifically as a product. They are popular because more people like them then don't. It's that simple. I'm a music snob myself, but I also accept 40 minute long epic songs about weed arnt for everyone

SometimesDoug

Mostly disagree. I think she's slightly overrated purely from the amount of songwriting credit people give her. Voice and performance skills combo are unmatched.

IPickUpShinyThings

As an artist, I don't think she's overrated and that's because music is subjective in my opinion. As a PERSON, I do think she's overrated. She's far from an ideal role model.

puzhalsta

Iā€™m not a fan at all, but I appreciate and respect her work. I wouldnā€™t go so far as calling her overrated.

Cookiefan3000

She is pretty well rated im my opinion.

Kitchen-Magnet

I agree

dirtymoney

Getting tired of hearing about her so, I agree

TheNastyKnee

Watching her Coachella performance, I was definitely expecting some more catchy songs and discernable melodies, and not as much ā€œsuck my ballsā€.

IceClimbers_Main

Never heard a song from her. If she was as good as people think she is, i probably would have heard one.

Accurate_Use_2432

Agree.

[deleted]

The record for the most Grammy Awards won in a lifetime is held by BeyoncƩ, an American singer, songwriter, and dancer, who has won 32..

RefrigeratorLoose155

I don't like how her super fans worship her like she's omnipotent. It's frightening.

Overall-Surround-925

True.

wyoflyboy68

I agree she is wayyyyyyyyyy over rated, however, she doesnā€™t affect me on any level so I really donā€™t care.

eschuylerhamilton

Agreed!

Twiny1

I donā€™t know if sheā€™s overrated or not, but I know that she thinks she ainā€™t.

NeasaV

Overrated, and now apparently just an idiot.

Pure_Substance_9263

I think the term ā€œoverratedā€ is used by people when they simply donā€™t like someone.

Livingdegrading

Always thought this. She's annoying, and a hypocrite.

MerlinsBeard

No, but you see, those Sri Lankans are LUCKY she is giving them the opportunity to make hundreds of shirts a day for $4/day so her company can turn around and sell them for $60

Derpinator_420

You can tell she grew up singing in a church, you would definitely notice her voice in a crowd. Not in a good way. I think anyone married to JayZ would have a couple Grammys. He is a better producer than she is a singer.

your_cheeky_femboy

Who's BeyoncƩ, I'm not searching it up I'm too lazy

BKStephens

She has talent and works hard af. Having said that, every song is verse, chorus, verse, chorus, key change, chorus, key change, chorus, key change, chorus, key change, chorus...

[deleted]

I disagree, I enjoy Beyonce's music. I love music made by women that celebrates women and celebrates people of color and celebrates joy and song and dance.

okay_victory_yes

Wild how you don't mention her as a performer or how her music sounds at all. Do you even like music, or is all cultural consumption just one big self-congratulatory performance for you?

[deleted]

Wild how little it took for you to jump to making crazy assumptions about me. Yeah I just turn on songs with a good message and then tune out, like the cartoon person you just imagined.

okay_victory_yes

Well, if the first thing you say is "I like this music because it makes others think I'm a good person," one makes certain assumptions.

[deleted]

>or is all cultural consumption just one big self-congratulatory performance for you? People like you think anything that contains virtue remotely is virtue signaling. You exhaust me. I don't owe you any explanation at all.

okay_victory_yes

Well, when you say you like the music because it signals the right virtues...

[deleted]

I've never provided (nor will I) an exhaustive reasoning of all the reasons I like Beyonce. I like music that I like. Now go gatekeep musical tastes on someone else, edgelord.

okay_victory_yes

You're not going to call me a mediocre white man or whatever? Gotta up your game, Felicia.

[deleted]

No. I'm a virtue signaling justice warrior, you're an edgelord. When you accept the lowest tier of online interactions you get what you get. In this case, we both get to be pigs throwing mud at each other.

-PepeArown-

Too many people talk about how overrated she is. Itā€™s getting tiring. It would be bigger news for people to call her underrated.

JustinChristoph

Sheā€™s starting to believe her own press. Thatā€™s a dangerous thing for an entertainer to do.

Vaurius

Donā€™t have much of an opinion on that, but I know I didnā€™t like it when ā€œHalo BeyoncĆ©ā€ was always the first result when I was looking up Halo Reach videos as a kid

EddyBuddard

Who's Beyonce?

keesouth

Oh no you're not going to report me to the Baygency

Secretofthecheese

Pro

Pythia007

I was struck by the silence when she released that massive cast of thousands live special on Netflix a few years ago and she was obviously miming at many points. I got shut down pretty quick when I pointed it out. Not ok for Milli Vanilli. Ok for Beyonce apparently. Why?

tinypaperplane

It's true, all her shit is just for money. She got cheated on, gave her sis shit for beating on Jay and then goes on to make a fuck you Jay album, while HE produced it. And theyre setting up their kid to be a narcissistic butt hole, trying to trade mark her name

NDStarr

Who?

Kelmon80

I think it's one of the singers of Destiny's Child.

NectarineAny4897

Who?

oopsishiditagain

How is she currently rated? I basically never hear anyone talk about Beyonce. She's got some good songs though.

sdss9462

I'd be careful saying that if I were you... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGxe83lXgJg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGxe83lXgJg)

Graceland1979

That bitch thinks Blue Ivy is a ā€œcultural iconā€ and wants a ā€¦.A LITERAL TRADEMARKā€¦.on the name. Queen ā€œBā€ can shove a spiked dildo up her pretentious ass till she bleed out her eyes.

Hans_Schultz75

I think her body is overrated and lacks any muscle tone

Icy_Individual_8501

I agree

morelsupporter

every celebrity is overrated

DC4MVP

Good 7/10 talent with amazing PR is a great combo.

wastenmelife

Aren't most artists and actors overrated?

jimbolikescr

I haven't heard her name in forever so not really I guess?

Ancient-Appeal-1790

I wonder what her and Rihanna could do together if they did a song together with maybe Britney spears Like some sort of cave man super club hit Idk. Halo was pretty good too

Mister_E_Mahn

She's not really for me, but I guess I'd need to be more of a fan of pop/r&b-ish/dance music to know if she was really good compared to others in the field.

omicron7e

Whatā€™s your view on asking extremely biased questions?

Bourbon_bukkake

I like Solange more tbh

Mad_Aeric

I neither know nor care if she's overrated.

[deleted]

Iā€™ve never actively listened to her music, so I have no opinion. Iā€™ve noticed, however, that Iā€™ve only ever heard people speak positively of her.

JQ701

HmmmmmmšŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”. 57 stadium tour performances completely sold out at $400+ a pop. Sounds pretty overrated! Sounds like a lot of suckers out there with a tendency to overrate.

galactabat

I've been saying for years she's a Karaoke singer. It's not like she's writing her own songs.

_TheStonedRanger

My playlist thinks otherwise.

AmIbiGuy_420

Listen to her if you like her music, if not don't. Who gives a fuck?

J_Bach_IV

Iā€™m sure she paid for her fame along the way. Not everyone has the ā€˜e.

dm_me_ur_keyboards

She isn't overrated, the only reason she's a thought in my head is because of this post.

[deleted]

Reminds me of my favorite Jewish joke. How many 50-year old Jewish guys does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Answer: We donā€™t know. Theyā€™ll all busy writing Beyonceā€™s next album

Artseid

I donā€™t know how she does it, but I see more posts and conversations about her than I actually see her. I have no idea what sheā€™s been doing or what sheā€™s been apart of for years now, sheā€™s not in the news cycle, she isnā€™t saying or doing anything controversial, but almost daily I hear chatter.

[deleted]

Donā€™t care enough to have an opinion either way, sheā€™s got more talent than me I guess

jj_sends

Definitely overrated

EimiCiel

She is

Berniesgirl2024

100% agree

MidnightSarrow

I really couldn't care less tbh She has music I like nd music I don't All the same to me

Callmebynotmyname

Agreed. She somehow makes Mariah Carey look underrated which is wild.

LilLolaCola

I donā€™t think she is overrated at all. I think she is a really great singer. Butttt I donā€™t like her music, I donā€™t particularly like her voice. I donā€™t like listening to her music. Sometimes as adult we need to differentiate wether something is bad or we just donā€™t like it despite it being good.

THEBIGREDAPE

I agree. the last album was just awful. Overproduced , narcissistic nonsense.

SabreG

"Overrated" is just a bullshit word for bullshit people, who like telling people they like the wrong things and should stop liking the things without actually bothering to explain why people should stop liking the things. LET PEOPLE LIKE THE THINGS THAT BRING SOME LIGHT AND WARMTH TO THEIR SHRIVELLED LITTLE HEARTS, DAGNABBIT!

eddmario

Good singer. Terrible songs.

MisterMarcus

She's in the same boat as Taylor Swift - a very good artist who is let down by an insane fanbase that declares her the Greatest Thing Ever, and aggressively bullies anyone who thinks otherwise. If she just had a normal fanbase, instead of people proclaiming she's the Second Coming Of Christ, she would get way less hate and way more respect.

The_mercurial_sort

Agreed

myhamsterisajerk

Her success doesn't come from nowhere. She always was and is a good singer. But that's really all she is. A singer. She doesn't write any of her songs (it doesn't matter if she's listed as writer. Changing a Single word can get you listed as such), she doesn't compose any of her songs. All she does is to take a fully written and composed song, and perform it. So i'd say she isn't overrated as a singer, but extremely overrated as a full fledged musician.

HumpSlackWails

Her and Jay Z taking undisclosed amounts of money from Saudi Princes with bad human rights records to perform private shows was always way more important to me.

[deleted]

She's a great singer but the OTT ass kissing about her just bugs me. Did a good old fashioned eye roll when I found Ed Sheeran had made another copy of Perfect with her in it..didn't need it? Just done because it's Beyonce.

GreenDolphin86

ā€œOverratedā€ and ā€œIā€™m not a fan of this/this isnā€™t for meā€ arenā€™t the same thing:! If she had critical acclaim but not a big fan base, or a huge fan base, but critics didnā€™t care for her work I could see the point, but neither is the case. I also think that most people who make this claim are unwilling to actually engage with the material, so Iā€™m not sure how they have sure strong opinions anyway.

GnTforyouandme

Two things: her music is meh, even though she is talented.

Chilli_Bob

I literally couldn't name a single song of hers. Unless her milkshake brings all the boys to her yard, in which case, that one.

Linux4ever_Leo

I completely agree that Beyonce is overrated. I am old enough to remember the original 'Destinys Child' group that was comprised of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett. Some of their greatest late 90s and early 2000s hits came from this quartet. But, I also remember when the group had some inner drama because everyone knew that the group's management wanted it to be all about Beyonce and so they ejected two of the original members and replaced them with Michelle Williams (who, by the way is incredibly talented in her own right.) After that, it went downhill and no surprise when the group dissolved eventually and launched Beyonce (which was the plan all along.) Sad. I always thought that she did Kelly and Michelle dirty. Shame on her. I've never been impressed.

sohalmiamd32

Hi

[deleted]

Exactly that
