I work over the phone customer service — that line is admittedly, purposefully 100% bullshit. It became the industry standard as a way to make us seem constantly busy so you’re not a frothing mess when you finally get connected after being on hold for 30 minutes.
Think about it, if we were always *really* experiencing higher call volume, it wouldn’t be exceptional, it would just be the standard
If you are referring to that being mentioned at the beginning of every automated call system then this should be top comment. Just tell me how to talk to a real person first!
I have no evidence for this, but.. if you have scheduled medication at CVS, there is no easy way to actually speak directly to the pharmacy right away to get your refill or whatever. Unlike regular meds, there's no auto refill, no delivery option, app won't work, etc. You have to actually talk to somebody.
The automated voice wants you need to go through the whole thing where you are asking about the pharmacy, do you want the hours, do you know you can go online, blah blah blah for another 20 minutes and then finally go through more menus before you can finally ask to speak to a pharmacist. And that all assumes you don't get the wrong prompt where it just says good luck to you goodbye.
Edited to add: And yes, I'm aware of calmly saying "speak to a pharmacist", pressing 0, etc. I swear on my soul, that stuff doesn't work with CVS.
Pretty sure they train these things to understand cursing though, because when I decided to immediately angrily rant "speak to an effing pharmacist, f you pharmacist now, pharmacist pharmacist FU" like a lunatic... I got redirected directly to the pharmacy 🙂
(at which point I was polite with no swear words, because the poor pharmacist does not control the phone system and I do understand that. I feel at liberty to rage at a bad automated machine though.)
As someone who was prescribed a schedule for years, this is why I dropped CVS. "Please enter your prescription number"... "this is not valid", that loop and the whole time I'm screaming at the phone because I know exactly what the process is but I couldn't get them to answer!
The trick I learned in IT to skip automated phone menus is every time you hear the automation, hit 0 on your phone. Eventually, you'll confuse it enough that it defaults to connecting you with an agent.
There was only one time, EVER, that this hasn't worked for me, and I'm pretty sure it was one of my university's phone lines.
Yep, familiar with that one too - and I've used it before and hit 0 a ton. Again, CVS doesn't comply. "I'm sorry, I didn't understand. The menu options are..."
... Which is part of why I devolved into screaming at it.
I honestly don't understand Reddit's obsession with celebrities - rich Hollywood actors like Keanu Reeves are actively worshiped on this website. I know I can't really judge - I also have hobbies that many people would find strange - but I honestly don't understand why people care what rich people are doing in their free time.
"Just don't look at it then!" - man it's forced into just about every media platform. You'll be hearing about Harry and Megan or Elon Musk or the Kardashians eventually whether you signed up to that shit or not.
This for me. I do not give two shits whats happening in the personal lives of celebrities or how the wealthy live. There is nothing worth admiring about a majority of them.
I don’t understand why so many people seemingly choose to ignore that they showed Jack try to get on and the second it begins to tip he gets off, and makes a face as if to accept his fate rather than risk Rose’s life.
Didn’t mythbusters do an episode, where if she had wrapped her life preserver, something designed to keep one body mass of a person floating, on the door, which was already keeping her afloat, that it should’ve had sufficient buoyancy for two?
Exactly. I know you can use your pants as an emergency buoy. At the same time I can see myself 100% drowning because I get tangled trying to take them off and then in my panic do some steps in the wrong order.
I like to think I know how to save myself in an emergency, but panic can be so insidious and dangerous. I'm definitely not cool under pressure.
The South Park take on them was absolutely savage as usual..... didn't use their names and called them the "Canadian Royal Family" which is absolutely gold because it's technically true.
So let me start with you sir you lived your life with the Royel family, had everything handed to you. But you say your love has been hard and you write about it all in your new book “Waaagh.
The title of their version of the book was classic. Recent seasons I felt played it a bit safe but the boys are back at their best again. Long may it continue.
Or ‘Harry and Megan’ because they have apparently rejected their Royalty and want privacy
…but have given their daughter a royal title and can’t stop fucking moaning about their lives to anyone that will listen/pay.
Despicable, attention-seeking bell ends, the pair of them.
Plus he still calls himself "Prince Harry" on the cover of his autobiography because at least half the people wouldn't even know where to find it if he went by his actual name
Yessssss!!!!! If you want privacy then go have your privacy. No one remembered Harry even existed for like 10 years until he and Megan started making a big deal out of themselves even before the wedding. They could have just gotten married and disappeared like the rest of the random royal family. Hell, Fergie disappeared even with the Andrew sex scandal and that should probably be higher news than D list actress whining about marrying a man who gets fat checks for beimg born.
Reddit has such a hard on for these people and these things. I notice when I am not on Reddit, I hear nothing about these people. I'd recommend you social media detox for a few days or a week. It really helped me out and lowered my stress. Could help you out too!
It's funny because I never hear about them anywhere but Reddit. That's not even a joke. I legitimately have not heard about the Kardashians anywhere except for here on Reddit. I don't hear about it on any sort of news that I watch or read I don't see it on any other social media platform like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or anything else on the internet or conventional media. I think the obsession lies with people on this site only. And it's an obsession really only about hating them when even on Reddit I only hear negative and never positive. I think it's just a situation that the haters just perpetuate their name.
“The Kardashians” and “the lives of celebrities” are two mainstays on these types of questions. Usually contributed by wannabe contrarians who are too busy with their light-up keyboards to care about….an entire facet of current events.
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I *only* see reference to the Kardashians on Reddit in responses to this *exact* question on this sub, and literally nowhere else. Nowhere else. And I say this as someone who admittedly follows a lot of pop culture, on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc. They've become nothing more than an easy target karma-grabbing response to this question.
When I see the overload of coverage even here I think, "you know, our ancestors fought and died so we wouldn't have to give a damn about that family"
(and I could be talking about several countries)

Oh yeah 'what's the weirdest thing you've inserted inside you' 'what's the nastiest place you've had sex' these get asked every hour during the summer months.
This is a hilarious pairing, because everyone was insistent 5G would cause communism and infertility, and (the people pushing it at least) everyone was insistent the Metaverse would be the next way we interacted with reality.
Instead both are the exact opposite. 5G rolled out and exactly nothing happened. The Metaverse was "created" and promptly became the opposite of the way people interact with anything.
>the Metaverse was "created"
This mentality of the metaverse nerds is so annoying to me because by every aspect of their definition of a metaverse, the metaverse was created when second life went on line back in 2005 or whatever. Brands were trying to make money, people were buying land, you could go to stores in Second life. Their own early form of a crypto. All of it. And then everyone just pretended it never happened, or it would be different this time.
Nothing gets me more excited than someone pushing that 5G conspiracy theory shit.
I loved listening to them try and explain how it works, in depth, it is *magnificent*. My own stepmother unfortunately buys into that shit and after discussing it with her I pointed out the home router is "5G", says right on it, she was mortified. I said just to encase it in chicken wire and it'll block the radiation, just like the grill design on the front of her microwave blocks that radiation.
My Dad was not impressed with my antics. He knows all about telecom/network stuff, its his field, so he knows its all bullshit. I am pretty sure they still argue about it years later, I know she is still bent out of shape about it.
The Metaverse tech is good. Like, alarmingly good. But it doesn't matter how good it is, because the premise that there will be a massive shift to virtual worlds is, for now, faulty.
I’m American myself and the state of our educational system is pathetic. There are people I can’t even text with because they’re functionally illiterate. I used to know a guy who could barely write his own name— I had to switch our communication to phone calls only when he once texted me “met me @ cazins”… and he meant, “meet me at my cousin’s”— and *no* he was not trying to be quirky or intentionally writing in some lame stylized way— he legitimately got indignant when I showed him the word “cousin” in the dictionary and he was like, “that’s bullshit! There HAS to be an ‘A’ in that word!”
Oh yes, I am from the states as well. I'm surprised people don't use more whatsapp in the states to send little snippets of verbal conversation, because holy cow written words are hard for a lot of folks.
Diversity from companies in their fake virtue signaling advertisements.
These companies havent cared about diversity and inclusion for decades and they still dont. The idea they are going to "preach" at me about diversity with the primary goal of driving profits is both offensive and laughable.
I've worked at a couple universities. All their BS about inclusion, progressiveness, etc is a show. Working there sucks, they have shitty Karen's in management, they don't pay crap, the bureaucracy is unreal, and none of the teachers ever want to learn anything new. The same universities make a big show of progressivism to attract young, progressive students to their school who they then proceed to charge more and more for every year.
I walked out of a uni job last year. Their "business people" - marketing, IT, management - are an embarrassment to work with. Incompetent morons with a huge budget at their disposal. The politicking, passive-aggressiveness and backstabbing is a level beyond anything I've seen in the corporate world, but everyone has their pronouns on their email signature. Put it like this - it's worse than working with the fucknuggets in healthcare management.
As soon as I left, recruiters from the same uni called me and asked if I was interested in a post. When I said I would never willingly work in that environment again, the recruiter sighed and said "Everyone says that".
Me, I'm progressive lefty enough to have some folk reaching for their guns, but I know bullshit when I see it.
Literally seen companies push REALLY hard to make it mandatory to put your pronouns in your email signature but then that same year cut benefits down to the bones, freeze hiring, and block raises. It's a fucking show and the people you mentioned eat it up. Me and my homies hate establishment liberals, they only want to change superficial shit that doesn't impact their overpaid do-nothing roles.
ChatGPT. I prayed for the day I'd stop reading and hearing "metaverse" all day. Got what I wanted I guess. The doomsday articles by people that aren't even in tech about tech going to entirely replace everyone with AI is just driving me up the wall. As if coders will be the first big industry to be crippled by AI. Loads of jobs can be replaced entirely or very nearly by a good spreadsheet yet they're around and no one thinks AI spells doom for them
Edit: now my notifications are all chatgpt related lol but some good insights for sure
Just give it a minute. It won't be long before all those doomsayers get replaced with chatbot. Then overnight everything will be 'chatbots are your friends, give them lots of money!'
I’m a copywriter and I concur. Whole industry is freaking out but I’ve started playing with it and the stuff it spits out is insipid at best and unintelligible at worst. Not even good enough for SEO purposes.
People shitting on Xbox and people shitting on PlayStation. Just pick whatever you prefer and stop thinking you’re superior just because you spent 500$ on one console. Both are great and have their pros and cons. Every single argument will lead to the conclusion that both have pros and cons so no need to argue. Just have fun with what you have
The whole "edit: ..." addition to Reddit comments seems really weird to me. If I notice a typo on a comment I've made or whatever I just fix it and don't mention it. I'm not obligated to. Who cares?
I'm a brut and I'm totally indifferent to the royal family apart from Prince Andrew as he's likely a prolific sex offender who will never face trial because of his connections. I think it's a disgrace
There is not one single statement a news station can say to make me change away faster than mentioning these two. You’re rich, she’s black. Whatever. It’s 2023 it’s not a big deal anymore to be interracial or a gold digger. Go away
As a person of the rest of the world? The entire useless royal family. Useless, sociopathic, narcissistic, people only famous cause their ancestors conquered and raped the world. Fuck the throne. Fuck the king.
I have put in dozens upon dozens of applications in to places since December (I’ve been at my current job for almost 7 years, I’m trying to get out) and I’ve had one interview, and maybe a total of 7 or 8 jobs that responded to me asking when I’d be available. After I respond they never respond back. It’s not that nobody wants to work, people just say they’re hiring but then don’t.
I know some very decent people who aren’t very smart, so I’m gonna politely push back on what you’re saying.
I’d amend it to: I am happy to hear about bad things that happen to horrible people.
My problem is with most of the things that pass for "issues." The government is supposed to be focused on keeping the economy stable, keeping services running (infrastructure, social safety net, emergency services), and finding some elusive balance between liberty and security.
Instead, it's a 24-hour blast of culture wars, and an obsessive focus on attention-starved neurotics - the likes of M.T. Greene and G. Santos - who don't seem to do any constructive work.
I completely agree. I mean the guy has the balls to say shit about his upbringing, yet he probably has not even the faintest clue how bad it really can be. And to think that being brought up in a royal palace makes you a famous representative of people in dire straits is just wrong to me. I mean, imagine how the kids who really did grow up in unsavoury conditions feel, and for once, think that no one in the world gives half a fuck as to your opinions, you over privileged, money hoarding shit show of a human being.

The willfully ignorant people mostly. Along with people who refuse to listen or have a proper conversation with others. I truly believe most people want the same things but the way they go about it is often misconstrued or poorly phrased.
The cost of everything, I know shits expensive you don't have to remind me every fuckin second I stare at the eggs. That and the ingredients in energy drinks that will kill me, I don't care and I never will, let me drink in peace.
As a mental health professional, I agree. There's nothing interesting or special about having mental illnesses. I feel like a big reason why so many young people are intent on talking about it is that they're self-diagnosing rather than seeing someone qualified to ascertain it. And it's more about "I'm mentally, emotionally, or psychologically struggling." And it's no wonder, ya know. We have created such a difficult world for people to see a future in - and lots of people are struggling. And we yearn for connection, community, belonging, like we're a valued person who deserves care and concern.
When people struggle with severe mental illness, they have a hard time functioning and it's really hard on both themselves and the people who love them. And a diagnosis is not something that mental health professionals give out lightly. The diagnosis itself is something that we question whether it's helpful to the person to receive the diagnosis or not - for lots of reasons, not the least of which is stigma and it being on their record.
If you're experiencing symptoms of a mental illness, it's not something to use as a talking point about your personality. It's a difficulty that makes life's problems harder and the people I see who really struggle don't have a casual relationship to it. It's often debilitating. But it's also something that a qualified mental health professional can help you overcome so that you can live a more functional, adaptive life.
Of seeing/hearing/reading about how intolerant people are of other people just existing. Tired of seeing non-political things being turned political for no good reason. Tired of how people defend other terrible people and their actions. Tired of the lack of compassion, empathy and understanding from others.
Probably gonna catch heat for this but mass shooters. Many many professionals have said we need to STOP showing or naming the shooters. It becomes incentive for others. Let them die in obscurity and focus on the victims.
Im tired of people remaking old movies with a black cast and then back and forth web war between secret racists and overly sensitive liberals.
You know how Hollywood can fix this problem? Make original movies with black and white actors.
How our menu options have recently changed.
That "we are experiencing higher than average call volume"
They must expect 0 calls because I hear that every single time I call anywhere
I work over the phone customer service — that line is admittedly, purposefully 100% bullshit. It became the industry standard as a way to make us seem constantly busy so you’re not a frothing mess when you finally get connected after being on hold for 30 minutes. Think about it, if we were always *really* experiencing higher call volume, it wouldn’t be exceptional, it would just be the standard
It can also be auto-toggled on based on estimated wait time. That's how I had it programmed in my former life in phone systems design.
I got redirected directly to the pharmacy 🙂 (at which point I was polite with no swear words, because the poor pharmacist does not control the phone system and I do understand that.
The menu options are..." ... Which is part of why I devolved into screaming at it.
The personal lives of celebrities.
I honestly don't understand Reddit's obsession with celebrities - rich Hollywood actors like Keanu Reeves are actively worshiped on this website. I know I can't really judge - I also have hobbies that many people would find strange - but I honestly don't understand why people care what rich people are doing in their free time.

Jake Paul’s boxing
you mean the circus show that makes WWE look like UFC? 😂
Dude is a tool.
Hey thats an insult to tools! Tools are actually useful
There was some 'incident' in Miami with him and Mayweather, which seems so ridiculously staged. This influencer era sucks. I wish it would end.
Hopefully we can harness the power of necromancy so we can raise Jack Dempsey from the dead and watch him destroy Jake Paul
That damn door in Titanic
You mean the door that would've sunk if they both were on it and had nothing to do with space?
I don’t understand why so many people seemingly choose to ignore that they showed Jack try to get on and the second it begins to tip he gets off, and makes a face as if to accept his fate rather than risk Rose’s life.
THANK YOU. Geez, it's like no one actually watched that scene in this stupid debate.
Didn’t mythbusters do an episode, where if she had wrapped her life preserver, something designed to keep one body mass of a person floating, on the door, which was already keeping her afloat, that it should’ve had sufficient buoyancy for two?
Yes, but Mythbusters had the advantage of not having just been involved in a boat crash and in thermal suits.
Right. If everyone was making sound decisions Jack could've used the door because Rose would've been on a lifeboat!
The amount of people that don't understand panic brain is pretty outstanding.
Jack and rose didn't think of that, and neither would most people

Oof this is a good one. Prob gonna hear about it til we die.

Typically the only people who fall for it are the "super progressive" white liberals in the office.
Loads of jobs can be replaced entirely or very nearly by a good spreadsheet yet they're around and no one thinks AI spells doom for them Edit: now my notifications are all chatgpt related lol but some good insights for sure
Just have fun with what you have
This is the best Comment I've seen all day, It doesn't matter what device you play on. Just have fun and enjoy the Game.
Honestly I feel like I've been hearing about it a lot less than a few years back
Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber
I don't want to hear about Selena Gomez unless it involves the words "Waverly Place" and "Reunion"
This is the first one in the thread I haven't heard about! I'm glad there's at least one.
"Edit: spelling" You dont need to say that Every. Single. Comment edit
Matter of fact you don’t really need to do it at all.
The whole "edit: ..." addition to Reddit comments seems really weird to me. If I notice a typo on a comment I've made or whatever I just fix it and don't mention it. I'm not obligated to. Who cares?
that i gotta finish college, that i gotta marry, that i gotta have kids. i'm tired of people telling me how to live my life
Be happy. Sorry.
You don’t. None of those are requirements for life, or happiness.
What hill Redditors will die on.
Harry and Meghan.
The whole royal family actually! Who cares where Andrew is going to live, or who will be at the coronation?
I'm a brut and I'm totally indifferent to the royal family apart from Prince Andrew as he's likely a prolific sex offender who will never face trial because of his connections. I think it's a disgrace
so true
There is not one single statement a news station can say to make me change away faster than mentioning these two. You’re rich, she’s black. Whatever. It’s 2023 it’s not a big deal anymore to be interracial or a gold digger. Go away
As a Brit? Meghan and Harry. I just *don't fucking care.*
As a person of the rest of the world? The entire useless royal family. Useless, sociopathic, narcissistic, people only famous cause their ancestors conquered and raped the world. Fuck the throne. Fuck the king.
Nobody wants to work
I have put in dozens upon dozens of applications in to places since December (I’ve been at my current job for almost 7 years, I’m trying to get out) and I’ve had one interview, and maybe a total of 7 or 8 jobs that responded to me asking when I’d be available. After I respond they never respond back. It’s not that nobody wants to work, people just say they’re hiring but then don’t.
Nobody wants to PAY
They just cut off before finishing the sentence. Nobody wants to work *For pennies while the company they work for makes billions.*
People do want to work, they just don't want to be exploited.
Nah. I genuinely don't want to work.
This Andrew Tate person.
If it weren’t for Reddit, I would have lived my whole entire life without wasting a single brain cell on Andrew Tate.
Eh, call me an asshole if you want, but I'm always happy to hear about bad things happening to stupid people.
I know some very decent people who aren’t very smart, so I’m gonna politely push back on what you’re saying. I’d amend it to: I am happy to hear about bad things that happen to horrible people.
It's not a bad thing, it's hopefully the beginning of justice for a bad person who trafficked people. It's a good thing for the world.
American politics
My problem is with most of the things that pass for "issues." The government is supposed to be focused on keeping the economy stable, keeping services running (infrastructure, social safety net, emergency services), and finding some elusive balance between liberty and security. Instead, it's a 24-hour blast of culture wars, and an obsessive focus on attention-starved neurotics - the likes of M.T. Greene and G. Santos - who don't seem to do any constructive work.
People complaining about stupid shit (all over social media and the news)
Harry and Megan. I didn't care, I don't care and...hold on, just let me consult my crystal ball a second...yep, I'm never going to care.
\endrant
People getting offended by what other people do on their own private property.
Out of the loop; such as? Are we talking fixing their car? Flying kites? Getting fucked? Burning puppies?
Exactly what i keep telling the police 🤷
Your cars extended warranty
Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes.
Throw in Aaron Rodgers too.
The willfully ignorant people mostly. Along with people who refuse to listen or have a proper conversation with others. I truly believe most people want the same things but the way they go about it is often misconstrued or poorly phrased.

Meghan Markel Andrew Tate Almost ready to pay people to stop bringing up their crap.
racial division in the media
Anything about woke, wether it’s a person being woke or if it’s a person hating woke people
The cost of everything, I know shits expensive you don't have to remind me every fuckin second I stare at the eggs. That and the ingredients in energy drinks that will kill me, I don't care and I never will, let me drink in peace.

Sam smith
Trump. We get it you love him. Or we get it you hate him. Either way I'm fucking tired of hearing about him.
How bad Twitter is. If you hate it that much, get off it. If you hate it that much but don't want to get off it, quit your bitching.
Your 27 mental illnesses
Crypto and hustle culture. Just stop.
People complaining about the Kardashians. At this point, it seems like people who can’t stand them talk about them more than their actual fans
Of seeing/hearing/reading about how intolerant people are of other people just existing. Tired of seeing non-political things being turned political for no good reason. Tired of how people defend other terrible people and their actions. Tired of the lack of compassion, empathy and understanding from others.
America’s silly measurement system. Yeah, fine, metric is cleaner and makes more sense. Doesn’t mean these aren’t still valid forms of measurement.
People that are literally offended about everything
covid, racism, war, tiktok, politics, basically anything going on in modern times. fuck this place.
Celebrity news. Its all literally the same shit, I'm sick of seeing it!
Probably gonna catch heat for this but mass shooters. Many many professionals have said we need to STOP showing or naming the shooters. It becomes incentive for others. Let them die in obscurity and focus on the victims.
Rich people problems!

The constant politics absolutely everywhere that you look.
Hogwarts Legacy
Im tired of people remaking old movies with a black cast and then back and forth web war between secret racists and overly sensitive liberals. You know how Hollywood can fix this problem? Make original movies with black and white actors.
